I've been coming to this place for many years now- my dad used to take me here as a kid and I still come here as an adult whenever I'm in the area. Their chips and salsa are so good- the chips are warm and the salsa tastes refreshing, especially in this California heat! We ordered their chicken flautas combo and their beef taco combo. Everything is delicious and I especially love their rice and beans. Very happy that they have outdoor seating! That always me feel safer eating at a restaurant nowadays. We go here all the time and usually have Ninette as our service staff. She is very sweet and always takes care of the customer. She has even memorized our orders, as we usually stick to the same thing when we come here. The food is absolutely delicious. They have the best beans, which taste authentic home-cooked as if made by Abuela, Oma, and grandma. I also like the beers, Sculpin IPA is good. The tacos, guacamole, and flan are also very, very good. The flan is absolutely crazy good to the point where I have to really exercise a lot of restraint not to go hog-wild and eat 3 or 4 of them in one sitting. It's so good it makes it hard to just eat a few spoonfuls and save some for later. lol There are a variety of dishes to order, but there is a certain flavor that I really like here. The food tastes like they took their time to really slow cook it. You know you can taste if food has been rushed. It just doesn't taste as good and isn't as comforting. Also, the food tastes fresh, and not out of a can. The pico de gallo salsa definitely tastes homemade and fresh, not out of a can. The worst thing in a restaurant is when the salsa has that can flavour. Yuck lol For me, different places have different high points. Some places have the best salsa, while others excel in how the taco meat is prepared. This place has it for the beans! But I haven't really tried a whole lot of other things on their menu, so I may try their steak next time and see how that goes. I'm certain it's going to be a winner 100%! We like this place so much, we have brought friends and family here, especially now when family is visiting from overseas for Christmas. This is a nice place to bring your family, coworkers, and friends. It's a great place for Christmas parties. Ask for Ninette when you get there and she will take care of your needs. Horrible place!!! They only want your money. They sold me a $10 hot chocolate basically. I asked the old lady server or host that greeted me, about a drink called Champorado. I didn't know much about it, since I've only had it once and was craving it on a cold windy day. She told me that it took a long time to make and a lot of cooking that's why it's so expensive, but she totally lied. I got a large at another restaurant for only $4. I come to find out that it's so simple to make. Horrible that they sold me a $10 Champorado, so I'm going to guess their food are also over priced. Never coming back here! read more

My lady's favorite Mexican food spot! I gotta say the free salsa they give out with the chips is delicious. I love a good chunky salsa. I just like to feel the tomato chunks in my salsa + chips ^_^ The rice and beans here are pretty good as well! I recommend dipping your chips in a rice + beans + salsa combo (courtesy of my lady). Randomly tried cause the wait list was too long for café de olla. The food here didn't have much flavor and it was too americanized-coming from a can, which was disappointing. I will say the portion sizes are big which is nice if you're looking to save what you don't eat. The price was reasonable and the service was okay. We got seated quickly (it was pretty empty at 1 pm on a sunday) but the server didn't seem to want to be there. My friend did like the coffee though. Parking in the area is a bit scarce but the restaurant is surrounded with various venues to try out and walking around was enjoyable. read more

I work nearby and I went to Rudy's Mexican Restaurant with a few of my coworkers! It is right on the corner of Colorado and Myrtle. You can't miss it! There is outdoor and dine-in seating as of June 18th, 2021. Our waiter was very attentive, nice, and always asked if we needed any extra service. First - right when you sit down, they give you fresh chips and salsa! What a treat. My coworkers and I all got separate orders and shared the variety plate - it comes with a bunch of delicious things! The variety plate had nachos on the bottom, topped with guac and sour cream with taquitos, flautas, and quesadillas on the sides of it. It was such a good price for the amount of food we got. You can definitely share with a table of 4-6 or more. We also got an asada burrito, taquito plate, and chile relleno plate. All were delicious and we all took leftovers home. The portions are really full for a $10-$15 price range. I'd say it's definitely worth it! A side note: if you want beans and rice, you have to mention you want to make it a combo plate or add those items. I opted to just have my burrito since I knew the portions were gonna be HUGE! And the the ribeye steak A la tampiqueña is my only reason for visiting this place phenomenal only thing I've ever order here I don't think I have ever order anything else. But it's been about a year since my last visit and as usual I order the rib eye steak Ala tampiqueña. And although still delicious I was disappointed!!!! I'm a rib eye steak guy! And let me just say my steak was not rib eye.... Very thing steak and was more like a desmillo steak you can just tell on the fat! That rib eye steak fat hits different. You may be fooling other people but not me. Family owned and operated we have been coming here for at least 20 years. Delicious food with great drinks and service. I love getting their combo plates they are all great! I really enjoyed the Birria plate. It was comprised of quality meat that was so tender cooked in tasty authentic spices and flavors. Hit and miss. Unfortunately the last 2 times I have been here have been major misses. It's hard to screw up an enchilda but they did. It was watery with grayish chicken and no sauce despite my request for sauce. The chile relleno was mushy, and the cheese was watery. Yes--the cheese was watery. My mother had the chile relleno and it was tough--how is that even possible? Service is also poor. Slow, with some meals arriving way before others and with many order mistakes. The best chicken fajitas! My family and I go to Rudy's almost every other week because we enjoy them so much. Rudy's is consistent, they give big portions and their chips and salsa are delicious, especially when they come out warm. It's nice that Rudy's is in Old Town Monrovia because it is a nice area to spend time. Both the indoor and outdoor seating at Rudy's are nice and the ambiance is inviting. I worked nearby for a few years but I only got to try Rudy's during my last week there. I drove or walked by it many times but cant explain why I waited that long to sample their food. I ordered take-out and got the 2 taco (crunchy) combo for $12.75. I went with beef tacos and it came with rice and beans. I opted for double rice instead of beans. The tacos are covered and filled with lettuce, tomatoes, cotija cheese and shredded beef. I thought the tacos were really good. I kinda wished I had been to Rudy's earlier in my time there. I would have probably been a regular... The shredded beef was flavorful. I loved the crunch of the taco with the beef filling. The cheese was good and I really liked the Spanish style rice that came with it. Pricing is a little higher than I'd like for just 2 tacos but it was a combination meal and the rice portions were good. IMO 3 tacos at that price would be better. Street parking only. Went for Easter with the family. Let me just put it like this. A party of 6 and no one finished their food. Service was horrible, and they weren't even that busy at the time. They forgot to bring out the condiments for the menudo/pozole. Forgot to bring out the tortillas for the huevos Rancheros. I asked for salsa on the side for my tacos, and they forgot to bring that. When we brought it to their attention, it took 15 mins to bring by that time. The food is cold, and we were over it. Decided to just ask for the check $124 for 1 pozole, 2 menudos, 3 Carne asada tacos, 1 huevos Ranchero's, and a child's plate of taquitos. 2 coffees, 2 sodas, and one beer. We were seated by La Jefa. And she is just a wonderful presence. You can tell she loves her customers and what she does. I observed many things. My fiancé came here many years ago and told me how great it was. Here is why we won't be coming back. We observed that the team is very kind to their loyal patrons. If you don't normally come here, you won't get that good treatment. Our salsa came in a soup bowl and was mostly liquid. Next our meal was not seasoned well at all. When we asked for silverware, my fiancé got a fork and knife, I got a knife only. Everything about our service was subpar. I felt really bad for La Jefa, she was just so incredibly full of light. Unfortunately I will not come here again. They have become one of the small group of businesses that will charge you extra for using a credit card. At a time when crime is rampant and more businesses are choosing NOT to take cash because of all the crime, Rudy's chooses to go the other way. My wife and I do not carry more than $20 each for emergency cash. I refuse to go to a bank teller machine every time we want to go out to eat which puts us at even greater risk. The days of carrying around a hundred dollars in cash ended over thirty years ago. For most people the credit card has become a safe and convenient way to live. I'm sure Rudy's would say it's because of credit cards fees. I don't buy it. That's the price of doing business. Spread across the entire menu it's small change. Most businesses want as many customers as possible and not alienate any. There are so many good restaurants that do accept credit cards without charging extra. read more

Wow! Incredible food, and even more incredible service. Miguel was our server. He accommodated my request for an item not on the menu without hesitation. I had fajitas, and there was enough for two meals. My wife had the snapper al ojo, and it too was delicious and enough for two meals. We are pescatarians, so they served us black beans and frijoles de la olla. Again, very accommodating. The black beans are spicy, which is okay for me. Our daughter and her husband had the seafood burrito and the chili relleno/taco combo.All of the food was delicious and huge servings. We started with the guacamole. Homemade and tasty. My wife and I recently went to Rudy's for an early lunch and we're very disappointed. Let me mention that we've been there before as we enjoy walking the old historic mall. We thought we'd give it a second chance, but it was a mistake . My wife ordered chicken taquitos combo plate and I ordered a burrito à la cart. Neither tasted fresh, you could taste the oil in her corn tortillas and my beef burrito couldn't be more bland. Now let's talk about the service,.... It was literally nonexistent.. despite the fact, the place was literally empty with the exception "one" table of 4,.. never once did they refill our coffee or water. In fact, I had to walk upfront and ask for the check,.. while the waiter just stood there, doing nothing but chatting away with another employee.
