So, Ruby's Diner is the main restaurant located within the Citadel Outlets Mall, Commerce. So to begin the review, I highly recommend coming to this mall, it's really a great shopping area. And I recommend eating at Ruby's. We ordered the albacore sandwich combo and the mushroom Swiss burger combo. I guess the first thing that comes to mind is charm. It's a nice little restaurant to put on your list of places to go. This mall gets packed on weekends so come early, like right around noon. Our wait was 10 min, very nice. They have both table and booth options. The booth was instant, but we chose the table. The food was pretty good. Not huge portions, but we both thought 4/5 stars on our meals. Our waitess was Wendy. Awesome! So nice, and always checking on us. They have bottomless fries, which is cool too. The entire bill was $32.00, which is pretty inexpensive these days. We stopped by here for a quick bite to eat. It was ok. It was both exactly as expected and cooler than expected. The car in the middle was a neat touch. Also I don't remember many places with refillable fries. We did not get them but the idea is pretty cool. I didn't really like any of the food but the general experience of eating there was fun. The milkshake that had orange juice was a cool idea but it upset my stomach a little so I'd have to skip it if we came back. Food was incorrect. Never got all the items that belong on my salad. After asking twice. I as offered $5 off of a $16.99 salad instead of it being comped or it being made correctly. I told the manager I ordered a certain menu item. I will only pay for the item I ordered. Not for missing food. Do better please. read more

While shopping at the outlets we stopped by to have lunch at Rubys Diner. Even though the reviews were bad on Yelp I still decided to give it a try since I have never been here before. Once we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly host and he sat at right away since it was not too busy. A few mins later our waitress approached us and welcomed us to the diner. Took our drink order and gave us time to make a selection for food. I ordered two classic cheeseburgers and a super burger for the three of us dining here. We chose Cajun fries and regular fries. Both tasted amazing and crunchy. The burgers were good as well. The diner was very clean and so were the restroom. The customer service was friendly, attentive and quick. I don't understand why they had such bad reviews, our experience here was amazing. I will definitely be back again next time I'm at Citadel. read more

It was my first time trying out this spot at the outlets for a quick lunch and I'm sad to report that this is quite the disappointing burger. I ordered the classic Ruby's burger with cheese and fries. The burger was a 3 out of 5 for me on the dry side and not very tasty. It certainly lacked flavor and didn't give me a much of a wish for more of it. The fries on the other hand were pretty good 4 out of 5. Dunked in ranch (which was pretty thick and creamy) was even better. The banana strawberry shake was average - and didn't taste much like banana, and in fact tasted more like the cherry they threw on top , and it took way too long to arrive (almost at the end of my meal ). While it's a busy joint, some servers were more attentive than others. I'd probably never order the Ruby's burger again, and instead would give others a try. Ambience wise, it's super casual and very family friendly with booths and tables and they'll provide high chairs for kids. Parking: there's plenty of FREE parking at the outlets parking structure just about 5 minute walk to the diner. read more

Decided to stop by here for lunch before doing some Christmas shopping. My party of 3 had to only wait 5 minutes before being seated. We were sat at a booth but the seats were falling apart and their menus were faded so we couldn't really see some of the items on the menu . We tried the chicken tenders with the ruby rings, a western burger with chili cheese fries, and a mushroom Swiss burger with sweet potato fries. Chicken tenders w/ ruby rings(onion rings)- chicken tenders seemed old and double fried, onion rings were okay. Western Burger with chili cheese fries - burger was okay, chili cheese fries were mixed with stale fries and chili was lukewarm. Mushroom Swiss Burger w/ sweet potato fries- mushrooms has no seasoning and bland and sweet potato fries were decent. Food was definitely not up to par and they really need to revamp the restaurant. This was probably the worst Ruby's I have ever had. The service was okay but oh my god the food was inedible. I got the BLT and the bun was like a straight crispy paper. The fries tasted a month old and disgusting and the chicken tenders had a really off color to them. Their water is tap water which is undrinkable. The only thing decent there was their root beer shake. If it weren't for the location, I wouldn't even KNOW this a Ruby's. Super super disappointed and it was such a waste of money. This is a great place to stop for shakes, burgers, chicken tenders, and endless fries. Ambiance - Themed as a 70s diner all the servers are also in theme like something you'd see in Back to the Future in the past. Food - Ordered seafood combo platter which came with three shrimps butterfly style and three pieces decent sized pieces of fish served with coleslaw and endless fries. The fish and shrimps were a bit over fried but still great nonetheless. Tartar and cocktail sauce was also included. Chicken tenders were slightly over fried and slightly dried which would be unfair to compare against Raising Canes the current king of fried tenders but overall tasty and the sauces provided without asking by our server was great! Service - The server Melissa I don't know where to begin. Her politeness and speed joins many great servers that set the benchmark for excellent service. My wife and I had such a great time so late into the night and was worried coming in so closed to closing would dampen the experience. Melissa definitely made us feel so welcomed. I will definitely been coming back here. Melissa if you are reading this hope your future leads you to bigger restaurants should you enjoy serving. If our families were running restaurants we would totally try and recruit you!!! Parking - I can see this place being a nightmare to park during the weekends. Can't believe this is the nearest Ruby's Diner to Ventura county. When I used to live in the OC, Ruby's Diner was my wife and I's go-to-spot for our early days of dating. So when we were shopping at the Citadel a few weeks ago, you can imagine how excited we were to see Ruby's there. It was definitely an easy decision on where to eat for dinner that day. Happy to say everything is just as we how we remember it from before, and even more. For my wife, she was excited to try the new impossible burger as she's gone vegan now. She loved it and said it might be the best impossible burger she's had. For me, I got one of my fav's which is the Guacamole Burger. I just love the amount of guacamole they put it on it. It was just as good as I had in the past. My son had a grilled cheese and he liked it. I tasted it and it was a very buttery grilled cheese. Even though we have the Camarillo outlets here in Ventura County, I can see my wife, son, and I heading to Citadel more just to go to Ruby's. Greeter was dry! Not even a smile on his face. I felt sorry for him. Probably was having a bad night. Menu is extremely limited, not really the diner experience you'd expect. Vibe and decor is great, very cool. Food we ordered had no taste. If I could describe it in one word it would be "bland." Table next to us had an issue with the food quality, sent it back but changed their mind as they didn't want to be a pain to the server. The server proceeded to explain that they noticed the item was consistently coming out with the same poor quality and left it at that. Very odd comment to make. This place is the all time favorite burger place of my kids. They enjoy the environment, the friendly staff from the host to the servers. As to the food of course Ruby's diner has almost everything on their menu from burgers to salads to chicken tenders to fish and chips. I have tried everything and by far my favorite will always be their Hershey's chocolate shake :D okay my favorite will be their Hickory burger and their Mushroom swiss burger. We came in for hopefully a quick bite, but after seeing the waiting room full, we thought it would be a long wait. However, they told us only 15~20 and it ended up being less than 10. I was shocked! But no complaints at all. Service was great. I could tell our waiter was a bit stressed with all of the tables, but we had no problems with him and he did an amazing job (I really wish I remembered his name). He kept being apologetic to us but we just kept reassuring him that we had no complaints with his job/the wait times. Honestly, everything came out much faster than you'd expect from any other restaurant, even when they're slammed. Food was fresh and delicious. We ordered appetizers of the fried green beans and then 2 burgers. Everything came out around the same time which was great. Mainly because the green bean dipping sauces were delicious and I wanted to use them with the French fries as well. I got the bacon burger and my wife got the avocado burger both on wheat buns. They were juicy, yet not so much for that it destroyed the buns, and all the toppings paired perfectly. Honestly, they were great burgers. Usually at Ruby's I get the fish and chips. I'm glad I changed things up this time. We also grabbed a vanilla shake. We wanted a cookies & cream, but they said they were out for the night. Oh well. I love that they give you a full glass and then the mixing glass as well. We got a full shake and then a nice little one to are with us for the drive home. We've passed by this Ruby's a couple of times, each time wishing we would stop by. We have nostalgic memories of Ruby's so when we see one we're immediately drawn to it. One day we decided to stop by the Citadel outlets, primarily to eat here (priorities!). There's plenty of parking at the outlets but be prepared to walk a bit. Walking up we were initially confused where to go as there's an order window right next to a food truck. We approached the window and ordered burgers, fries, and a strawberry shake. We were directed to a shaded seating area around the corner with social distancing in mind. Our shake and food arrived fairly quickly. I had the bacon cheeseburger and our food came with plenty of ketchup and ranch. The burgers were how we remembered them to be - nice portions and very tasty. The shake is so good especially in the brutal heat we've been having lately! If you're in the area and want a tasty treat, go to Ruby's and grab a shake!
