    Medium Bowl Menudo

No hangover, just a craving. Menudo is usually associated with hangover remedies but that's not why I wanted it. Something about tripe and hominy that just sounds good on a Saturday morning! There are no frills here at Tommy's, just straight forward diner food with attentive and kind people who work here. The menudo was very clean, broth very tasty. Just a good solid soup for a cool Saturday morning craving!

Another visit to Tommy's. Extremely popular place on Saturday mornings. Amazing service by my waitress (it was her 60th bday and she had been at the restaurant 33 years). Food is consistent. Prepared well. Lively family welcoming restaurant!

Pancakes are so fluffy and delicious.

I grew up coming to this restaurant. The food is good and prices are reasonable. It is always packed for dinner and breakfast. I love to see my favorite food server, Luptia . I just live their pancakes.

    Caldo de res and albondigas

I saw an advertisement for their caldo de res and albondigas soup coming with a side of rice and tortillas deal, so I figured I'd try it since its on my way home from work. I called ahead but I was already close, so I figured I would need to wait about 10min or so till it was ready. When I walked in, I smelled that diner smell, the aroma of many things cooking! I missed that smell since I havent been to a diner lately. I walked up to the register and said I would pay first but it was already packaged and ready for me. That was quick. When I got home, Hubby got the albondigas, I got the res, but Hubby immediately compared those albondigas to my home cooked ones. Saying that it tasted like it was missing something. I tasted it and I knew right away it was missing caraway seasoning and tomato sauce. I'm not sure I would order this again. It was $18, just for one! If I come back, I will probably get something less complicated.

I went to breakfast with a girlfriend who lives near this restaurant. She told me that their Mexican breakfasts were really good. We both ordered chilaquiles. I ordered mine with green sauce. She ordered hers with red sauce, as the waitress said the red sauce was milder. When I took the first bite of my chilaquiles with green sauce, I needed a sip of water! Talk about spicy!!! My girlfriend didn't even want to taste mine since she can't handle really spicy food. I tasted some of her chilaquiles with red sauce, and they were much milder. I preferred my spicy chilaquiles! The portion sizes were enormous! Unfortunately, I didn't love the rice and beans, but my chilaquiles were delicious. The service was top notch! Our coffee mugs were constantly refilled, and we were there for over three hours! I can't wait to go back and try another item on the menu!

Went here yesterday, it took me back just to the way family restaurants use to be! Very friendly staff and clean location. The food was good definitely made in house. Menu is American and Mexican cuisine It's nice to see a family owned business with good food and service

My wife and I haven't been to Tommy's Family Restaurant for years this is our first time in years. We were surprised interior looks different more modern we like it. We came here to have breakfast then we got seated right away then the hostess hand us the menu. My wife was looking at the menu then she decided order a bowl of albondiga soup and then she order a chorizo plate then I order chili Verde with egg on top. They brought the food fast and the food looks really good then I took a bite of chili Verde with pork it was amazing good and it have a kick to it mean it was spicy but good. The rice and bean were very good lots of flavors in the rice and bean including the eggs it add more flavor to the meal. My wife enjoy her albondiga soup and the chorizo plate next time we need to come again and try different items on the menu.

Hadn't been here in about a decade. Yes it's remodeled. But yes there's a but, the food quality is a NO, ordered an omelette with fruit.. they charge extra. Okay fine. But canned fruit ????? I'm willing to pay extra for fresh cut fruit... also they made it seem that the avocado on top of my omelette was good but I noticed the black spots.. I turned it around and was filled with black spots. Really??? Smh my bf got a burrito with lots of hash brown and full of grease. We didn't want to make a fuss but who would pay for not one but both plates with brown avocado. Canned fruit paying extra and burrito filled with grease and mostly hash. No thanks. Not ever going back. Yes they did take a plate off the bill. But still wasted $36 plus dollars...

We came in town for the night & was headed back home 3 1/2 hr drive so found this place for breakfast on of course Yelp :)!! It got pretty good reviews so we had to try. Hubby got machca beans & rice . Was ok was a lil bland he said.I got the basic breakfast eggs bacon hash browns. The bacon had a different kind of taste wasent to good at least for me. What I did like but couldn't finish was the pancakes pretty good. Was nice I had that choice to pick pancakes with my meal :) lil pricey though. Our waitress was nice but seemed a lil offended that I couldn't eat everything & didn't want to take it. With our long drive we don't take food home unless it prime STEAK! The ambiance was ok looked like a basic dinner but that's ok we like the look keepin it old school. From other reviews it's been here a very long time & that's awesome! Y'all try it for yourself if your in the neighborhood!

Lupita has very good communication skills was very on point brought my food on time was greeting and had a very wonderful attitude she was doing it all by herself i feel she deserves more Sheren needs to be fired she's rude yelling at lupita in front of everyone trying to make fun of her and embarrass her she doesn't know how to be professional this is her Lupita deserves a better job and people that are going to treat her with respect

They were pretty busy at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday but did not wait for a seat. Ordered the $17 burrito and was expecting something to be handheld but they do it ranchera style with red sauce and cheese topped all around it and on the sides and I'm glad they did because it was delicious. Well worth it; I eat burritos half this size for the same price in downtown LA. Ordered a side of hash browns they were solid as well. Only gripe would be that there wasn't much bacon or sausage in it (comes with both but needs more of both.) Melaniya served me proper. This was a great start we'll definitely be back to try the waffles always a gamble finding a crisp one, but they claim it so we will find out soon enough. It's a bit stuffy inside and loud as hell strange for a diner to be this loud but just saying. Still for what I ate it's an easy table pounder five star. Huge parking lot in the back that oddly had more cars than customers.

That's a sign of a great restaurant. When we went in, the servers were welcoming and it was packed on a Friday morning. We waited a few minutes before getting to our table and our server Gabby was the sweetest. She suggested the omelette (I forgot what specific type) and I'm so glad I took her suggestion. My food was awesome, a lot better than I was expecting. At first, I thought my portion was a little small, but I couldn't even finish my plate! The food is filling, flavorful, and everything was perfect. The positive ambience is a reflection of the quality service, food, and overall perspective of this restaurant. I thought it was so beautiful to see a bunch of elderly people coming for a morning mimosa, having coffee, reading, newspapers, and just mingling with each other. It gave me something to look forward to when I get older. I got a little sad when I seen a few elderly people alone. But when I realized maybe they go to Shakers because this is where their community is, I really felt the love. Go check it out, see what I'm talking about. I promise you won't regret it.

Friend, now I know what food is like in prison. The gravy was a bland, featureless runny liquid (no, even runnier than you're thinking), devoid of any seasoning whatsoever. I legitimately believe they dug a pan that used to have gravy in it out of the dirty dishes, swished some water around in it and poured it on my plate. The "biscuits" were hardly any better, lacking any hint of butter or flake, instead seeming like someone stirred up some Bisquick and threw it on the flattop grill. This meal was an insult and a punishment, and as part of a $70 check it felt like I was being personally invited to a fistfight by the dumpster. Alas, I had somewhere else to be. And somewhere else, anywhere else, is what I'll choose next time when breakfast is due. For reference, biscuits and gravy should include round, buttery, flaky biscuits using dough that was rolled out, cut, and baked. Gravy in this context is a richer, creamier milk gravy with substance, at minimum seasoned with fresh cracked pepper and perhaps some paprika. Offering a sausage gravy wouldn't hurt either. Or don't offer biscuits and gravy at all if you don't know what the f**k you're doing.

We ordered the Eggs and Steak with a side of hashbrowns and toast, 1st Street Omelette with a side of hash browns and a biscuit, a grilled blueberry muffin and some coffee. Everything was pretty good, especially that grilled muffin. Also, make sure you ask for some house made blueberry jam for your toast or biscuit. You're welcome. They also have some great hot sauces to choose from. The only complaint we had was that the steak was over seasoned with salt that we had to scrape off the top. Other than that, the food was delicious, comforting, and hit the spot. We would definitely come back to try more of their popular menu items.

So, today, I stopped in and ordered their fried chicken a la carte ($13 before tip). The server gave me a table setting as I told him I was going to eat there. After about 20 minutes, my order was brought to me in a plastic bag. The server looked at me, confused, asking "actually did you want to eat it here?" I told him 'yes' but - considering I had groceries in the car that I should probably get home - paid and thanked him. I wanted to have a "fresh" bite (as opposed to after the 20min drive home) so I popped the container open and was surprised at how small the chicken pieces were. The order was to come with a breast and a thigh but they were nearly identically-sized as the wings. RE: that first bite - it was not good; the flavor I detected that bummed-me-out tasted like slightly-spoiled buttermilk. Also, the distribution of the batter was very sparse on these chickens. On the drive home, I started entertaining the idea that when the server saw these mealy pieces, he became too embarrassed to present them to me on a plate (the reason why I got it in a knotted plastic bag?). Anyway, speculation aside: I don't think I'd go back - which is a bummer as the interior was super-cute and the employees were very friendly.

However, the restaurant was still only half full the entire time we were there. Food came out very slow but the service staff was very apologetic and provided above and beyond service to make up for the slow service! It was greatly appreciated! Kitchen staff dropped the ball on multiple fronts tonight but I still have them 4 stars, here's why. I ordered a double smokey burger. This took the longest to arrive, probably 20-25 mins after ordering. It's suppose to come with BBQ ranch sauce but when I bit into the burger, I didn't taste any sweetness as expected of BBQ sauce. Took a second and confirmed, yup no sauce was included. I got in line and waited patiently for the cashier to ask for the sauce. She was very apologetic again and quickly brought a helping of the BBQ ranch sauce to our table. With the sauce this burger is perfection!!! The bacon was perfectly crispy! I mean like crispy chips without being hard. The patty was still piping hot even after we ate half way thru!! Buns were nicely toasted. The rocket, well according to the receipt we ordered the original although we had asked for the rocket. Guess we'll just have to go back another day to try that secret sauce! The original burger comes with mustard, relish, and pickles. Overall I loved it but I think there was too much mustard that made the burger eat very acidic, too acidic for me. Still a banger! Tots were delicious!! With grilled onions added really elevated the dish!!! The kitchen originally forgot the grilled onions (which was an extra $1.19) service staff again was very apologetic and brought the grilled onions on a separate plate after. We got a chocolate chip cookie on the house too make up for the inconveniences tonight. If I wasn't going to Handel's right after I would've opted for a complimentary shake instead. The cookie is more under baked, tasted like cookie dough but had an unpleasant taste. I took two nibbles and left the rest. I love the ambience! This place is nostalgic for us adults who grew up in the 90's!! No more chicken strips, instead they now offer chicken wings and chicken sandwiches! Fountain drinks self service with Pepsi products. There's also brewed tea available. I ran into a kitchen staff when I went to the restroom and found out that the other kitchen cook had actually burned her face somehow today. I don't know if it was earlier or while we were there but that could explain why the heavy delays with our food. They just weren't prepared to accommodate the higher foot traffic with Handel's grand opening. I'm rooting for them!! Excellent front of house service and excellent quality food!! I have never walked into a place and not only was the cook in the dining area on his phone and the cashier sleeping on the counter with what I can only assume her boy/girlfriend. They finally acknowledged us and 5-10 min food was ready? And guess who served us lol ? I can't make this stuff up!!! The boy/girlfriend brought us our food lol doesn't even work here just hanging out. I would shut this place down especially after receiving cold food and under cooked, very sad that we still have to pay for high gas to get here and on top get Sh*% service and food in a place that use to be an amazing experience.
