I found Tommy's Family Restaurant while looking for a good breakfast burrito along my drive, and I'm so glad I stopped here! I ordered the burrito with hash browns, eggs, sausage, and cheese, and it was delicious. I also didn't realize it came with a salad and soup on the side, so it ended up being a really good deal. The staff was also super friendly when I walked in. Everyone seemed like they were in a genuinely good mood and happy to be there, which honestly feels rare nowadays and made the experience even better. One thing to keep in mind: their card reader only accepts chip cards or Apple Pay. If you have a card that needs to be swiped, it won't work there. Really good food, great value, and friendly service. I'd definitely come back! read more

Ordered for lunch pickup a club sandwich with fries, fish and chips platter with fries, and a carne asada burrito wet. The food was ok. The fries were not crispy. There was no tartar sauce for the fish and chips, and the wet burrito was not a wet burrito (no sauce)! The only sauce was ketchup? There was half a toasted hamburger bun included for what we don't know... Was there miscommunication between the order taker and the cook? read more

Stopped in today for breakfast with the wife and boy I'm sure glad I did. My Avo bacon and cheese omelet was so good and the wife's chili verde plate was also delicious. It's prob been over 15 years since I've been to Tommy's and now it's going to be my regular spot on the weekends. Staff was friendly and the place is remodel big time since I've been there. read more

I think Tommy's is good. Not amazing, but also not bad. I've have good luck with carnitas, but some other items have been sort of a let down. For example if I want menudo, Tommy's is not my first choice. All in all it's a decent local spot. read more

I drive by this place daily for decades and this week I finally remembered to go for breakfast. They have deals and 1 in particular caught my eye on the window: lumberjack breakfast for $14.99. My kiddo and i shared this and he was really happy eating up everything. The regular crowd comes in around 9am. The menu sounds incredible for American and Mexican options. There's a kids menu. Waitresses are very personable and efficient. The food came out fast and hot. I will remember this place from here on out! read more

Great family diner that I can't believe I never went to before even though I live not that far away and passed by dozens of times. I was there on a Friday morning and it was pretty empty. However, I imagine that on weekends its gets pretty crowded which was confirmed to me when I asked my server. They have an extensive menu with plenty of breakfast and Mexican breakfast items. My Denver omelet was massive, had a good amount of flavor and I couldn't even finish it. The pancakes were also fluffy and sweet. Really good, fast service. Nice setting-again very family friendly centered diner-even a bit nostalgic. Because of the diverse menu, I will certainly be coming back. As a breakfast aficionado I would recommend ! read more

No hangover, just a craving. Menudo is usually associated with hangover remedies but that's not why I wanted it. Something about tripe and hominy that just sounds good on a Saturday morning! There are no frills here at Tommy's, just straight forward diner food with attentive and kind people who work here. The menudo was very clean, broth very tasty. Just a good solid soup for a cool Saturday morning craving! read more

I saw an advertisement for their caldo de res and albondigas soup coming with a side of rice and tortillas deal, so I figured I'd try it since its on my way home from work. I called ahead but I was already close, so I figured I would need to wait about 10min or so till it was ready. When I walked in, I smelled that diner smell, the aroma of many things cooking! I missed that smell since I havent been to a diner lately. I walked up to the register and said I would pay first but it was already packaged and ready for me. That was quick. When I got home, Hubby got the albondigas, I got the res, but Hubby immediately compared those albondigas to my home cooked ones. Saying that it tasted like it was missing something. I tasted it and I knew right away it was missing caraway seasoning and tomato sauce. I'm not sure I would order this again. It was $18, just for one! If I come back, I will probably get something less complicated. read more

I've been coming here for a while and it's been a pleasure eating here. My usual hours are either in the morning or close to 2 whenever I have time and the food is amazing. The service in the morning is amazing as they are always checking in on me and seeing if I need anything but also not too much where I don't have space to eat my food. The food is well balanced throughout the menu and I haven't tried anything that hasn't been "good", everything so far has been amazing and it makes me want to come back so props to the chefs! I love the environment of the restaurant as well and this restaurant is definitely one of my go tos. read more

Been going here since I was a kid by grandma and mother would always bring me here to eat love it

We were in town for an appointment & was on our way out and decided to get breakfast so got on of course Yelp which never disappoints:) found this place. Got seated fast which was good since we had a long drive. Hubby got the Machaca beans & rice. He said it was lil bland. I got a basic breakfast eggs bacon hash browns & side of pancakes which was very good & part of the side option! But the bacon had a weird taste to it idk.. when we got bill the waitress seemed offended that we didn't want anything boxed up. Well for one I don't eat that much & two we had a long 3 1/2 + drive & not gonna have food in our truck that long unless it's Prime Steak!! The ambiance was cool old fashion. Apparently it's been there for a very long time. If in town maybe we'll try it again. read more

The food here is great, the service is also great. My only negative observation was the Asian manager and/or server was somewhat rude and not very friendly. She seemed to try and say something to our server who hadn't done anything wrong. It appeared that she didn't like her being very friendly to us. It wasn't very professional and definitely not the time to do what she did and try to scold her! Again, our server "Lupita" was super pleasant, polite and very good at what she does. I will continue coming here and sitting where "Lupita" can be our server. read more

I went to breakfast with a girlfriend who lives near this restaurant. She told me that their Mexican breakfasts were really good. We both ordered chilaquiles. I ordered mine with green sauce. She ordered hers with red sauce, as the waitress said the red sauce was milder. When I took the first bite of my chilaquiles with green sauce, I needed a sip of water! Talk about spicy!!! My girlfriend didn't even want to taste mine since she can't handle really spicy food. I tasted some of her chilaquiles with red sauce, and they were much milder. I preferred my spicy chilaquiles! The portion sizes were enormous! Unfortunately, I didn't love the rice and beans, but my chilaquiles were delicious. The service was top notch! Our coffee mugs were constantly refilled, and we were there for over three hours! I can't wait to go back and try another item on the menu! read more

In search of Menudo, we took our 93 year old Mom/Grandma to Tommy's. She was so happy to eat the soft and perfectly seasoned tripe soup, which she had been craving. The rest of the family ordered burritos, a beef taquito plate and a combo plate with Chile relleno and enchiladas. All generous portions (I forgot to take pictures.). Our server was attentive and quick with taking our orders. We munched on chips and salsa. Then our food was served hot and without much wait. This was my first time having dinner at Tommy's in decades. There are a few televisions showing different sports games. It has a diner layout inside with tables, booths, and a counter for individual service. read more

Hadn't been here in about a decade. Yes it's remodeled. But yes there's a but, the food quality is a NO, ordered an omelette with fruit.. they charge extra. Okay fine. But canned fruit ????? I'm willing to pay extra for fresh cut fruit... also they made it seem that the avocado on top of my omelette was good but I noticed the black spots.. I turned it around and was filled with black spots. Really??? Smh my bf got a burrito with lots of hash brown and full of grease. We didn't want to make a fuss but who would pay for not one but both plates with brown avocado. Canned fruit paying extra and burrito filled with grease and mostly hash. No thanks. Not ever going back. Yes they did take a plate off the bill. But still wasted $36 plus dollars... read more

Although I love tommys but today was probably my last time coming here. Came in for breakfast with my sister and she ordered a roast beef sandwich and she didn't like it she barely ate any of the sandwich. Now I understand I work in the restaurant business too. If a guest doesn't like the food we comp the meal. So if my sister barely ate the food why isn't her meal comp? Waitress tried to sweet small talk thinking I didn't notice. I chose to pay the full amount but I think she's in the complete wrong and it's an utter disgrace. When I wanted to talk she walked away. People shouldn't have to pay for something they don't like. Never again. read more

It's been awhile since we have eaten here, seeing some of the workers here was nice to catch up with. Our waitress took about 30 min before she took our order and it took about 45 to get our food. We asked what took so long and she said what do you mean it's mother's day and your order is coming out. We looked around and their was a good amount of booths that were empty. We didn't say anything. We received our food and it was cold, my son's fries were nasty l, my wife's food didn't have much taste. We have been a long time customer. We may not come back. read more

This place is busy on a Saturday noon. Had dropped my car at the dealership nearby and came here for lunch. Decent diner food serving breakfast all day both Mexican and American styles. I thought my nopales con huevos were great but nice the rice. Choose the hash browns better. My sister got the flautas and thought they were dry. My mom liked her avocado omelette, it was quite cheesy. read more

OMG! Excellent! Recommend this place, hands down! Decided last-minute to try this place out. My work partner and I were working on a project nearby and were hungry but pressed for time. As soon as we walked in, we were hit with smiles from the staff, cooks and a happy atmosphere and vibe by the patrons. We were sat down right away by the super-sweet lady, promptly handed our menus and brought our coffee we'd asked for! Awesome! We both ordered traditional breakfasts to include the usual ham, eggs, toast and the most amazing shredded potatoes cooked to perfection! We both wanted crispy potatoes and that's what we got. My partner got french toast and she said they were spot on. The coffee was hot, fresh and there was no end to the refills. The menu includes all kinds of Mexican dishes as well. If only we lived in the area, we'd surely try them out! Eating area is truly set up as a diner. Very open, cozy and a variety of types of seating, including counter-eats-style. Nice family atmosphere is tangible! The staff chatting and interacting with the patrons is such a great vibe. Makes you feel like you're hanging out for lunch with family. The bathroom was the only thing that we could make suggestions about (not complaints). A fresh coat of paint, brighter lights, deep clean the floors and this would have been a five-star! Parking is pretty good, private/attached lot. Wheelchair accessibility seems okay too getting to/into the diner, and seating areas. As we were leaving, even the kitchen cooking staff gave us a wave and a smile good-bye. Now that's what I call customer-focused! read more

We have been coming to Tommy's for years--- it is a neighborhood landmark. A casual, down home comfort food diner which also specializes in Mexican American dishes, such as Cocido, albondigas and menudo. What I often get is albondigas, which comes in two sizes, and is a great light lunch or snack. The meatballs are good; it includes potatoes, carrots, celery with a mild flavor. It comes with a side of Mexican rice and tortillas. Highly recommended. I have also frequently ordered the shredded beef crispy tacos, which are also good. Previously they sold this taco a la carte, where you could order just one, but recently I believe you can only order this in a plate. Breakfast specials are also good. Service is friendly and good, although they do get very busy at times. Ambience is also cheerful. There are large booths, and in the past, I have often brought my laptop and plugged it into the outlet to do some work in a relaxed atmosphere. We've also had many lunch and dinner meetings here. It's a place frequented by many locals, and if you've been going there over the years, you're bound to run into friends and acquaintances from time to time! There's also a parking lot and it's conveniently located off the 60 freeway at Riggin/Cesar Chavez and Atlantic, close to East LA College. read more

The way this manager (short hair) treats Hispanic employees is unacceptable. The favoritism and disrespect are obvious, and it creates a toxic work environment. No one should be treated differently because of their background. This needs to be addressed. 2nd time at this location. Food is tasty and good. Service is fast. They have a variety of food and choices breakfast all day.

Partner and I came by after a Kaiser office visit, and we were looking for breakfast. I love old school diners, and this definitely had the vibe. I saw that there were some comments about the service being subpar, but that was not our experience. Our server was very friendly and helpful (although she seemed a bit overwhelmed). I did have to ask for the tortillas that supposedly came with my meal and was told that some customers wanted it and some did not. We asked for eggs over medium and they came out pretty easy, very runny (which is fine, it was still delicious). Parking was in the lot, but it was full when we went. Street parking was easy. Bathroom is gendered, single stall - one bathroom for each gender. read more

Rating was for their service. The food was average, turkey had a lot of fatty gelatin on it. Gravy and stuffing were good.. I arrived and joined my family who were already sitting. Not once did the waitress (Silvia I think) stop by to get my drink order. I get it she's busy so I gave her a pass When it was time to order food I was placing my beverage order with her and I guess she was annoyed that I was ordering drinks and not food so she abruptly and rudely skips my entree order and starts taking my brother's order. My brother had to tell her that I wasn't done ordering. She begrudgingly comes back to me but at this point it was just weird. Food came and plates were basically slammed down like if you're feeding an animal. I wouldn't even feed my pets this way. Still at this point haven't received my water after asking several times over 30 minutes ago. Not sure if this place came under new ownership but I saw they treat Hispanic customers with an indifferent attitude. read more
