A whole in the wall that reminds me of my youth. The sausage and bacon breakfast burrito and the taquitos are great! It's not the cheapest but it's not u reasonable. The staff is kind and quick. I always stop by when I'm I. The neighborhood. Good thing it's open 24 hrs.

There aren't many 24-hour spots around anymore, and J & S has been around for a while. It's a Montebello staple, a place where many locals enjoyed late-night eats during their high school years. There's a lot of nostalgia associated with J & S. I found great value here. I ordered the breakfast burrito, and the staff recommended the Sausage and Bacon Breakfast Burrito ($10.64). It was a decent, good-sized burrito. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it wasn't bad. It's perfect for a quick bite. I recommend grabbing a coffee next door and taking it to go - it's a winning combination. I also tried the Taquito ($3.75). The order comes with two taquitos smothered in avocado sauce. They weren't the best, and tasted a bit dry and not fresh. I set it aside, and it actually tasted better after soaking in the sauce for a few hours. I would skip this next time. It's recommended to order ahead, as they can get busy. I always like to support local, mom-and-pop businesses, especially ones that have been around for a while. They must be doing something right. Overall, the food is a 3.5/5. The decent taste and great price make it an affordable breakfast spot. I heard the machaca burrito is popular, so I'll try that next time.

Fries, green chili burrito, cheese enchiladas taquitos

My brother in law introduced me to J&S in 1980. Been going since then. Good flavor and a great bargain back in the day. I went to visit my uncle Xmas Day in MTB. Had a little extra time and I was in the area, so... The usual, fries (crinkle cut and crispy, tasted like taquitos, taquitos ( crispy, little shredded beef and fluorescent colored guacamole) yummy, cheese enchilada ( that enchilada sauce, OMG) and last but not least, green chili burrito ‍. Oh, and an extra large Orange bang to wash it down with. Just like I remember! Talk to a few of the customers and they do the same, one moved to Riverside and one from the valley. Prices are much higher but to be expected. Really, I didn't care what it cost. To enjoy a meal that reminded me of my overly fun teenage years to my adult life, can't ask for more than that. Cheers!

First time here, got a combination burrito with green chile. The beef was a little plain but the beans and cheese were really good and the green sauce helped give it more flavor. The service was great and they have seating outside for you to enjoy your food there. Would still come again and try more things and would definitely love to try a burrito with just cheese and beans.

Chili Cheese Fries - Large $8.80+tax

Chili was thick and fries had mozzarella cheese on it. Fries were still crispy by the time I got to them. Would have preferred chili to be a little more watery and yellow cheddar cheese would have made it hit the spot. There was a small line, but it moved fast for a Sunday evening.

I've had their taquitos from here before. Loved them but went back today and I'm disappointed, they used to put real guacamole on their taquitos but now they just like every other cheap hamburger joint using what I call agua-mole (not real guacamole). And the taquitos seem different also. I think that management has also changed . Guess I'll start looking for another place that makes taquitos right.

Saw this while driving and decided to try it out. They burritos are made to order and there was a line in the morning when I went. I tried the machaca and the deluxe burritos. The machaca was good it had refried beans inside but the deluxe was the way to go. Had bacon, ham, cheese, egg and some beans. Definitely recommend the deluxe.

Had the delicious beef taquitos, super crunchy and tasty. The mole salsa is the best, such an amazing salsa option that goes perfectly well with the guac and taquitos. They have a few tables at the front of the building, they didn't have somebody actively cleaning so we had to ask the cashier for a cloth to clean. They seem to have a side dinning room but doesn't seem to ever open.

Chili Dog with Onions

12/20/2024 J & S 887 N Garfield Ave Montebello, CA 90640 I went there to try the Chili Dog to compare with others in this area. It's a Mexican fast food mainly take out place located close to the freeway. There is some parking in the back. There is stainless steel bench seating in the front with no interior dining (being used for storage). The menu is on the board above the order window. I placed my order and paid for a Chili Dog with onions at the window then waited a short time for my ticket number to get called. The order taker was very friendly and cheerful. The Chili was flavorful and surprisingly not spicy at all. The dog was of the supermarket taste variety and okay, can't beat a Costco dog. If I put their Chili on a Costco dog, then that would be perfection. Value was pretty good and I would repeat.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite busy, but we were able to find a parking spot right in front. I ordered the machaca burrito and it was delicious, affordable, and a nice size. We were greeted right away with a warm smile and had our order taken. Please note that they are a cash only establishment. This is definitely a fast food spot, so dining inside is not an option.

I ended up at a little food court that had a few solid looking options, but sometimes when you see a burger and smell a burger, you simply need to eat the dang burger. There was no line when my wife and I approached the window to order and we ordered a double cheeseburger, a grilled cheese, an order of fries, and a milkshake. Now, instead of simply giving us the price the dude working told us how it was going to take a really long time because he would have to make the burgers and the milkshakes, which ya know, is kind of how it works when you order food. So instead of questioning his logic, I just said forget the shake and ordered the food. The food took literally 8 minutes to come out and I can't imaging the milkshake would of caused that much trouble since they are ordered all the time, but who am I to say? The food was great, as For The Win always is. The french fries were great and so was my burger, but the lackluster interaction with the kid working really put a damp on the experience. Overall, For The Win is still my favourite burger chain in LA and it's going to take a lot for someone to knock them down (although Burgers Never Say Die and Irv's are up there too). Maybe one day, I'll even get to try a milk shake! Hopefully you have a better time ordering then I did.

Buy at night, I'm not so sure I'd take my mother-in-law there. We ordered 1 Chicken Sandwich 2 Chili dogs with cheese 1 Chili fry 1 Soda for a total of $38.51 (cash) My first mistake; not taking a photo of the current 'Menu' board; it is different from what's shown here; it has been updated. However, there is a 'Grilled Chicken Sandwich' on the menu board that is not offered... instead, they offer a tiny fried; breaded, processed chicken disk patty, sandwich - honestly, not worth buying... stick to the chili burgers or chili dogs. My honest opinion on this is, they should simply remove the chicken sandwich altogether - it is of no real value to the customer. The Chili, however, is this places Strong Point -- thick to that, and they'd do well. Chili dogs are good; a decent, long, slightly snappy dog on a regular small bun, but lightly smothered with a decent portion of chili; not too messy and easy to eat. The Chili Fries were also good; not great but good. The portion if generous but the fries quickly turned soft before I could plow into them. I do like some crispy fries with my Chili. But the flavor was good. I can't make a recommendation on this until I try another batch of chili fries. If, however, the fries remain soaked and soft, then I'd probably pass them up but just buy straight fries instead -- I hate soft soggy fries. As for the soda; a large is an OK size. I cannot say if they offer a refill; I did not go back to ask for one. But I'd hope a refill is available for the price. Pastrami: I got to taste a sample of the Pastrami, and it is really good. Here is where Chroni's could kick it up a notch; Chroni's does not have Bacon - Huge Disappointment and Missed Opportunity. With the Pastrami, and with Bacon, they could add one more menu Item that I know for a fact would sell: The Monster Burger - it is simply this: Bacon Cheeseburger with Pastrami, Chili, Onions & Pickles, and mustard. If they'd add this to their menu, I'd be back for sure. Just saying; something for Chroni's to think about. Get rid of the chicken, add the bacon. Seating: Oh, yeah; seating; Lots of outdoor seating... we were there on a Sunday and there were plenty of open tables. Parking: Lots of Parking too... for most parts or time, parking should not be an issue as I had thought. I nearly parked 3 blocks away when I saw the parking on the street; not knowing Chroni's had its own parking. But then discovered, they had plenty. I cannot say anything about restrooms; I didn't need to go nor looked to see if they had restrooms. My take-away for Chroni's is this; it is a throw-back to a early time when Snack Shack foods was a regular thing in L.A.; a nostalgic place with Lots of Promise and Potential. Pricing is a sign of the times; a bit high for me but it is what it is, but the staff are friendly & nice. I'd hope that with a focus on turning this place into a High Turnover sale; an emphasis on Lower Prices, High Volume sales, prices could come down a bit and still afford the owner a nice profit, and that is what this place needs. 5 Stars for Friendly & Nice Service 2 Stars on the Chicken & Soft/Soggy Fries 4 Stars for Seating 4 Stars for Parking 3 Stars for Cleanliness/Outdoor Dining/Restrooms (???) and bus bench/streetside characters. And, 5 Stars for Potential Overall - 3.5 Stars for now.
