CASH ONLY and they also round to the next 5 cents due to discontinuing of pennies. Social media brought me here for their hard tacos. A mom and pop spot and food tastes pretty authentic. Hard Taco -only comes with shredded beef, they don't offer any other protein for this. It wasn't tender but wasn't dry. Shredded beef didn't seem to have any flavor. You're only really tasting the deep fried tortilla and salsa you put over top. Carnitas Taco -surprised me that it's big chunks rather than small chopped up pieces that I'm use to from other local spots. Carnitas is my favorite usually but this spot was a miss for me. Extremely fatty and also dry simultaneously. Chili Cheese Chips (Red and Green Chili) -might be the only thing that was really good. Green Chili side was my favorite, pork was flavorful and tender. Red Chili was good too and tons of meat throughout. Chips stayed crispy even with all the sauce smoother on it. Chips Especial (w/ Asada) -quite good as well. Asada was flavorful and tender. When I saw a video on social media showcasing their crunchy tacos and burrito and it looked delicious, I had to try. - 1/2 & 1/2 burrito: 4/10, the shredded beef was dry. The red and green chili didn't have much flavor. If you're into these types of burritos, try J&S green chili burrito no meat with their pico de gallo. Their burrito is delicious. - Crunchy Tacos: 3/10, the shredded beef was dry. It does have fresh lettuce and tomatoes in it but there was no flavor unless you put some sauce. I don't know about you but I still prefer Taco Bell crunchy tacos. - Enchiladas Plate: 5/10, the chicken enchilada was good but the shredded beef enchilada was dry. The refried beans and rice was okay. - Chili Cheese Fries: 3/10, do not expect the normal chili cheese fries. I was craving for that but saw on the menu that it was only chili fries but they told my husband they had chili cheese fries. Opened the box and it was all red. They use their red chili and their dry shredded beef and melted cheese to make chili cheese Jim's on garvey have decent chili cheese fries (tell them to add grilled onions on top, but the best chili cheese fries is Tops in Pasadena.) - Taquitos: 5/10, decent tasting but I'm over their shredded beef. They need to do something about the beef to make it softer. The creamy guac sauce was similar to J&S but I still prefer J&S. Overall rating is to not listen to social media. Came here from a recommendation by a friend. Brought my daughter and her boyfriend about a week ago and let me say, they were not wrong! Both kiddos had the nachos with asada, I had a hard taco and the half and half burrito. Let me tell you that it surpassed my expectations!! It was so flavorful I can't begin to explain it. It was big enough that I had some left over for dinner later that night and a small bite for breakfast the next morning. It tasted better each time. I did not think it was spicy at all (and I don't do spice much anyway). It is a small place so seating is limited. There is parking lot next to it but it's super small but ample parking on the street. The ladies inside were super sweet and friendly. I did like that I they would wipe down as they spilled. Ordered a carne asada burrito, beef and bean burrito (not on menu but they custom made with red chili beef and beans.), 2 carne asada tacos, and a double cheeseburger with combo fries and drink. The burritos were big and the double cheeseburger is like what you get at a diner. Bigger portion than fast food burgers and it was fresh. French fries were decent. We saw a viral video of the hard shell tacos on IG and decided we had to try it! We ordered a couple beef hard shell tacos and the grilled chicken salad. Everything was fresh and delicious! I liked that it was a normal grilled chicken salad with lettuce, tomatos, chicken, avocado, tortilla strips and not a tostada salad. Hard shell beef tacos were packed with meat, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. I called our order in and it was ready for pick up in 10 minutes. Easy parking on the streets. Great customer service! There were a few tables and chairs if you want to eat there and I think there was some counter seating but more of a take out spot. Oh and it's cash only, so bring cash! read more

I felt like I was already at home as the daughter-in-law of the owners starting telling me about the story of Mexicatessen. I didn't know her, but I felt as if we were old friends catching up. That's the nice thing about Mom and Pop joints they welcome you and make you feel at home. I asked for some recommendations and she recommended the Chile Verde or the Red Chile as popular picks by their customers. She said, let me have you try them first before you decide which one you'd like. She whipped up a sample of both the Verde and Red Chile on a tortilla chip. The Chile Verde is spicy and maybe she thought I couldn't handle the spice. I can, but fair play! It was very nice to receive this kind of service. I'm in love with this spot already! They certainly make you feel like you're at home whether you are a new customer like me or someone whose a regular. I really wish I caught her name, but I'm pretty terrible with names. I liked both the Red and Green Chile. I was having a tough time deciding as I'm very indecisive. I was recommended the 1/2 and 1/2 Burrito with rice and beans. It was a great choice! We arrived around 2 PM and got our food within 10 minutes of ordering. The person taking our order was very friendly. The restaurant itself is in a small plaza. The parking lot is small and there's limited street parking so be aware when you're going. It's also CASH ONLY. The tacos were delicious. My favorite was the shrimp taco. This family owned and operated business has been cooking up delicious Mexican food for the community for over 50 or 60 years, so you know that they must have something going on, and they most definitely do. My wife and I both had their hard shell taco plate, and it was delicious! The shredded beef was cooked to perfection and apparently stewed in a special family brine. Lettuce and tomatoes, very fresh, and the hard taco shell was perfect: it stayed together when you bit into it, but it still had a very nice crunch. And, they topped the tacos with the right amount of shredded cheese: not too little, and not too much. Both their green and red sauces are very good, but honestly, I could have gone with a little bit more heat in their tasty red sauce. Their Spanish/Mexican rice was light, fluffy and very tasty, and their beans were also very good. We tried some of their tortilla chips, and my wife swears that they are the best that she has ever had. Very light and delectable, and not greasy. We enjoyed our lunch so much that we purchased an order of taquitos to go, but they didn't even make it home - my wife opened them up when we started eating them on our drive home. The guacamole sauce was about average, but when mixed with their green salsa, now that's the winning combination right there. The taquitos themselves were very good, made with their delicious shredded beef, which is a winner. We will definitely be return diners. This Taqueria is definitely worth your time to stop by and sample some of their very good tasting food. The meat is super high quality, perfectly seasoned and crispy from stove top, the taquitos use real shredded beef and it's tender. Bean and cheese really good but I still prefer Lupe's. This restaurant has been opened since 1854 and it's still the same amazing delicious food. I promise you will never be disappointed. Their burritos are filled to the brim, so although they look small compared to most burritos made around here, they're pretty good. I think the enchiladas are a good value with the rice and beans with cheese, but the enchiladas itself were a bit mediocre. The carne asada and carnitas tacos were pretty standard but the fish tacos were really well seasoned. The breakfast burrito was also really yummy and hit the spot. The sope had a crispy and thick base and is filled with lettuce, meat, and crumbled cheese. Also, they have pozole in the winter, but a lot of people don't know. The stew is so good and warm with hominy and chicken. My friend told me if a Mexican place serves pozole, they are legit, and for this place, it holds true. Very nice and friendly people at the counter, but they are a cash only establishment! The woman at the counter says: I haven't seen you for a while...Today I ordered a hard beef taco $3.25 and a half green and half red burrito $8.75. Tip: you need to let the burrito cool down before eating, it's served really hot! I remember when there was an actual deli case, and we ordered shredded cheese to make tacos at home.
