Looking for a brunch spot while in NO and this place popped up. I knew I wanted to come here after seeing the bread pudding pancakes! Overall, the food just looked really delicious. So the pancakes were amazing! Definitely on the sweet side so you don't need syrup. It also has a sweet/savory whiskey sauce. Soo delicious! I added whipped cream on the side at no extra cost. I highly recommend this if you need a pancake/bread pudding fix! Host and server were both super nice a bubbly. Our server also gave us a suggestion for another great spot for bread pudding. Ambiance is nice and casual, not too busy for a Saturday morning. Parking is kinda tight though, but the host mentioned there was also parking available across the street. It took a long time for server to show up for drink order. We ordered a flight of mimosas. Two of the four were great. The other two were horrible. The flight was $21.00. They would not exchange or comp the other two. The service was terrible. It was a long time in between seating, drinks and food for server. She had an attitude. When I mentioned the noise, she dismissed it and said it was always loud. She said the manager would not allow substitutions for the terrible two of the flight. The servers started moving chairs. They drug the chairs across the floor rather than picking them up. It was very loud and disruptive. The atmosphere was as unimpressive as the service and the food. The floors were not clean. They had food and debris all over. The restaurant was not busy. No one swept the hour we were there. Now the food. The food arrived and we had to ask for utensils. My friend asked for butter for grits, which never came. The potatoes had no flavor aside from fried in old grease taste. The cheese & spinach omelet was passable. Again, no flavor. Server was exceptional. Very kind and very attentive. Food was out quickly. Dining area was clean. The biscuit and butter were very good. This is where my review goes downhill. I got the shrimp and grits. Warm but not hot. Excessively salty in my opinion, and the gravy was very runny and just not that impressive. The pancakes were just OK. Nothing exceptional about them. The coffee was average- seemed like a medium dark roast. Someone who seemingly worked in the kitchen was taking a break out front. I watched him put his fingers in his mouth, I'm guessing, to dig something out far in the back of it, and then proceed inside and into the kitchen. It just was not a good look. The toilets in the women's restroom were nasty! Every one of them had evidence of explosive BMs and appeared to not have been cleaned in a long time. I've heard a whole lot about Ruby Slipper. My Gulf shrimp Benedict wasn't bad. I guess it just didn't live up to the expectations I set. I had in my mind that there'd be enough shrimp on the plate to allow for some in every bite. I thought there would likely be little trimmings of tasso ham to flavor every bite rather than the few big chunks I received. I guess my hopes were just too high. I liked having the fried green tomatoes in there though, and the eggs were poached just right. I added a side of fruit which was pretty good; the honeydew was above average, the cantaloupe a bit below standard in terms of flavor. Very nice place for brunch. Good food! Service is spotty! First time we went we had the nicest waiter! Second time we got a rude one, who seemed annoyed with having to serve. But that aside the good is good and generous, the eggs Benedict are all delicious and the French toast bites are fun little something to eat. They also offer healthier options which is great. I had a lovely breakfast today with one of my besties at the Metairie Road location of the Ruby Slipper. We were lucky enough to have Dwayne wait on us. He was so personable and professional. Our coffees and waters were always full. I had the Skinny Migas and really enjoyed the dish. Next time though, I will request no purple onion and light sauce. It was super flavorful, but as I get older, I am unfortunately less tolerant of spice. I took home an order of pig candy and, goodness gracious, it was delicious!! I've had two different experiences at this location recently. This review is regarding the first. My mom and I were joining a friend of hers for brunch. My mom hasn't been out much over the last year so this was an exciting brunch adventure for her and it was her idea to come here. We were seated immediately even though we were waiting on our third guest. Our server Rebecca was genuinely one of the sweetest people ever and although it was a busy day for her, she really took the time to chat and get acquainted with us which made the experience so much more pleasant. She recommended the boozy iced Irish coffee for me and the non alcoholic version for my mom who doesn't drink. It was really good! The disconnect came for me when my food came out. I simply didn't enjoy my catfish and grits as much as I'd hoped. The gravy flavor wasn't the best and the fish seemed a bit undercooked/ fried. I didn't bother Rebecca with it because I didn't see it worth it but I also didn't bother taking home the leftovers. My mom was however happy with her Cuban breakfast dish... Horrible. Just Horrible. I am a local. I visited this location because it was during Mardi Gras and the other locations were booked. This location was pretty empty but I thought it was because it was Metairie. Allllll of the portions were extremely small. Let's start with the good- I was seated quickly, the atmosphere is light and fun and feels more local than touristy. I got my drink and food relatively fast and was apply to pay by tap and leave. Unfortunately for the negatives- the food just wasn't good. I ordered the southern breakfast hoping to try a bit of everything and the best thing on the plate was the bacon. The scrambled eggs had the texture of powdered hotel eggs, the biscuit was cold and a bit tough with no flavor. The fried green tomato slice was beyond old and tough and had a bitter under taste. Very odd. Sadly the grits which had NOTHING. No butter, cheese, salt, nada. Lastly and most awfully is the coffee is bitter and not good Unfortunately the service was also lacking. I had to ask for a refill on my coffee, wasn't offered a refresh on my coffee creamer, wasn't checked on to see if I liked the food, my table didn't have salt or pepper and the ones I snagged from the next table didn't work. Lastly I had prompt for my check after I pre-bussed my table. Add in that the parking situation is not the best (think corner mini shopping mall style with double parking) I don't think I'll be back. I'm glad I gave it a shot and can check this off my list of must try's. I don't recommend but if you're nearby and nothing else is available there are worse options. read more

Let me start by saying I've never had a bad experience here but I guess there's always a first. I decided to go with the Chicken St Charles Benedict which came out beautifully plated. My first cut into the meal I knew it was going to be a disaster. The biscuit was so hard I had to muscle through the first bite. I will however say that first bite was full of great flavor in spite of which is why I continued the first half of my meal. The second half my knife couldn't even break through the biscuit so I just pushed the poached egg and fried chicken onto the plate and left the biscuit. I informed the waitress of my experience and she gave me a coupon for a free appetizer...but it's only good Mon -Thur. What a bomber considering I'm here visiting on the weekends usually. The biscuits are amazing, they are served with a cinnamon butter that makes them really yummy. Eggs were scrambled and the grits were thick but both were good. My bacon was cooked to perfection as I don't like it too crunchy. Our waiter was very attentive as well. Parking was a bit of a hassle but I guess is to be expected. Came here for breakfast/brunch, and everything was super good! We ordered the sweet bacon, which was crunchy, sweet, tangy and delicious. I got the Florentine omelet which was good -- I liked how there was a lot of goat cheese and it wasn't too salty. The biscuits that came with the plate was also absolutely delicious. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and I loved the little cinnamon flavored butter that came with it. My friends had the trifecta, and they also raved how good it was. It does come with 3 huge biscuits though, so definitely expect a lot of food and to be really full.
