If you're looking for the ultimate brunch spot in Metairie, Ruby Slipper on Veterans is where it's at. The energy here is always vibrant, but it's the food that keeps us coming back. The Standout: Chai Pumpkin Beignets We were absolutely blown away by the Chai Pumpkin Beignets. They are essentially a fall dream on a plate. The beignets were perfectly fluffy, but the filling is the game-changer--a rich pumpkin cheesecake that pairs beautifully with the chai caramel drizzle. The spiced candied pecans on top added that perfect crunch. If these are on the seasonal menu when you visit, do not hesitate. Just order them. Other Highlights: * The Benedicts: You really can't go wrong with "The Trifecta" if you're indecisive. It lets you sample the Cochon, Chicken St. Charles, and Bayou Shrimp all at once. * The Service: Even when it's packed (and it usually is), the staff is incredibly efficient and friendly. We never felt rushed, despite the busy weekend crowd. * The Drinks: Their Mimosas and Morning Margaritas are the perfect way to kick off a Saturday. The Verdict: Ruby Slipper consistently delivers that authentic New Orleans brunch flavor with a creative twist. Whether you're a local or just passing through Metairie, it's a must-visit. Elite Tip: Use the online waitlist! This spot is popular for a reason, and jumping in line before you leave the house will save you a lot of time on the sidewalk.

    Shrimp & Grits

Food was amazing. The shrimp and grits have always been my fav and my husband likes the eggs Benedict. Our waiter was nice, they were a bit slow but it was a very busy Sunday morning so that's understandable. Always a good place to go.

Horrible. Just Horrible. I am a local. I visited this location because it was during Mardi Gras and the other locations were booked. This location was pretty empty but I thought it was because it was Metairie. Allllll of the portions were extremely small. I ordered shrimp and grits that was Rosemary heavy and the portion was a kid's size. My wife ordered the catfish and received 3 small strips. Even the Mardi Gras beignet special was small. We were all dissatisfied. Sevice was ok.

I've had two different experiences at this location recently. This review is regarding the first. My mom and I were joining a friend of hers for brunch. My mom hasn't been out much over the last year so this was an exciting brunch adventure for her and it was her idea to come here. We were seated immediately even though we were waiting on our third guest. Our server Rebecca was genuinely one of the sweetest people ever and although it was a busy day for her, she really took the time to chat and get acquainted with us which made the experience so much more pleasant. She recommended the boozy iced Irish coffee for me and the non alcoholic version for my mom who doesn't drink. It was really good! The disconnect came for me when my food came out. I simply didn't enjoy my catfish and grits as much as I'd hoped. The gravy flavor wasn't the best and the fish seemed a bit undercooked/ fried. I didn't bother Rebecca with it because I didn't see it worth it but I also didn't bother taking home the leftovers. My mom was however happy with her Cuban breakfast dish... My rating is based on my dissatisfaction with my dish...I'm sure there's another menu item I'd like more.

Pre parade deliciousness to start our day! We drew the best server straw! Kudos

Delicious, beautifully plated food. Bacon Bloody Mary should be illegal it's so good. We had the most friendly, enthusiastic, fun and knowledgeable waiter.

    Chicken St. Charles Benedict
    Jennifer B.

Let me start by saying I've never had a bad experience here but I guess there's always a first. I decided to go with the Chicken St Charles Benedict which came out beautifully plated. My first cut into the meal I knew it was going to be a disaster. The biscuit was so hard I had to muscle through the first bite. I will however say that first bite was full of great flavor in spite of which is why I continued the first half of my meal. The second half my knife couldn't even break through the biscuit so I just pushed the poached egg and fried chicken onto the plate and left the biscuit. I informed the waitress of my experience and she gave me a coupon for a free appetizer...but it's only good Mon -Thur. What a bomber considering I'm here visiting on the weekends usually. Anyway I hope the next time isn't this horrible.

Ruby Slipper is by far the best breakfast/brunch establishment there is!!! The food is always really good. I normally get the trifecta but opted for the southern breakfast instead. The biscuits are amazing, they are served with a cinnamon butter that makes them really yummy. Eggs were scrambled and the grits were thick but both were good. My bacon was cooked to perfection as I don't like it too crunchy. Our waiter was very attentive as well. Parking was a bit of a hassle but I guess is to be expected. Overall, I would return to this location in the future!

Hard as a rock Buttermilk biscuit

I have typically had good experiences at the Ruby slipper, but this time visiting the one on Metairie Road was a bit of a disappointment. The shrimp omelette was good, but the biscuit was actually crunchy. It was so overcooked. In addition, the sausage which was an add-on was so overcooked it was difficult to eat. I don't like to make accusations about bad food without some kind of substantiation. So here are the pictures. I paid $38 for this effort. I feel ripped off!

How's parking? Do they have a parking lot or is it just street parking?

Are you dog friendly for outdoor seating?

Hi Crystal, yes! We allow well-behaved dogs to sit outside in our outdoor seating area.

How do I make a reservation?

Hi Elizabeth! We unfortunately do not accept reservations, but you can add your party to our waitlist remotely using Yelp.

What vegan options are available here?

not much unfortunately. fruit, side of avocado, salad... maybe the oatmeal?

One thing that sets Follow Tea apart from other bubble tea places I've been to previously, is that they offer cheese as the foamy part of your tea. They also offer a variety of fruit and milk teas. I was intrigued by the cheese, so I got the Lychee Rose Cheese Tea. This is made using cream cheese, the same type of cheese that cheesecake is made of. This is actually traditionally a Taiwanese method of making bubble tea. My friend got the Passionfruit Tea without the cheese. My Lychee Rose Cheese Tea arrived beautifully presented. The cup was made of sturdy, frosted plastic. On top there were some dried roses. This was so tasty! I loved the flavor, it was subtly sweet, and the cheese provided a slight savory balance. The tiny pieces of lychee were an added chewy bonus. My friend also enjoyed her Passionfruit tea. I wish we had some bubble tea places that offered the cheese foam, here in Connecticut, maybe I'll have to look a bit harder. We had a lovely time at Follow Tea, and enjoyed their tasty products.

Im pretty sure its actually purple food coloring and not actual ube, the only reason why I'm not placing a 1 star is because the first time I bought a cake from this place, it was actually good (some coffee cake). This bakery made decent cakes till I tried YOUR UBE CAKE. If you want to copy trends and mix asian culture into your goods, then DO IT PROPERLY, or at least research on how to make ube. Try making ube jam instead and place it in the cake, that would taste WAY better. Also the yellow icy part inside the cake would've been delightful if it was cheese and not some random yellow piss ice. Ube is commonly topped with cheese, this bakery really missed the opportunity to actually be culturally on point. So much for Ube getting mainstream if none of these businesses get it right anyway. They always mess up asian cuisines and culture by making their "own version". Dont disrespect our ube broski (I can feel/taste the ube on the paste but it just isnt enough, it needs more) (update, i take it back. Tried it in the morning where it wasn't as cold. I picked: a large fluffy maple roll. The outside reminded me of a croissant in the best way with some mild maple sweetness and the inside was moist, pillowy, and rich. I heated it up in the oven next day which made it even better. A square coconut roll... crisp and flaky on the outside with the most delightful sweet coconut cream inside and flaked almonds on top. This was my favorite. Will get multiple next time. And a pair of taro rolls. These I was most excited for as I love taro, and they weren't bad at all, but were probably my least favorite of the 3, purely because they had an eggy aftertaste. They weren't overly sweet with a nice smooth taro filling. I also tried a taro milk tea with soy milk. These normally include lavender too, but I asked for mine without. The flavor was off the charts good. Strangely it was nothing like the usual taro drinks I've tried and I couldn't place what I was tasting, but it was rich and creamy and so satisfying. Only thing that bummed me out was that I ordered boba and there wasn't any. :(
