I love the Ruby Room. Glayds is the best! I get massages from her all the time and she know exactly how to cure me when I go in there. The staff is always friendly and the prices are fair. There is also nice selection of jewelery when you walk in as well. read more

Ruby Room is fantastic! Quiet, calm and relaxing experience to grab your inner peace. Staff are all very friendly. Wendy is great at what she does! Highly highly recommended! read more

I've recently started going to Ruby Room due to needing to find a new stylist. I was with my previous stylist for years and years and had anxiety about finding someone else. Toni at Ruby Room completely eased my fears and has done an OUTSTANDING job each and every time I've gone in. My color looks fresh and fabulous every time I leave there. She is very knowledgeable about products and makes great recommendations as to type of cut that goes well with your face shape. The girls that work there are always friendly and pleasant. I would highly recommend Ruby Room to anyone looking for stylist. read more

Kaysie is amazing! I walked into Ruby Room a few months ago literally in crisis because of chronic muscle tension headaches and neck pain. Kaysie doesn't just do a bit of massaging that makes you feel good for an hour, she actually knows the body well enough to make a difference in your life. She takes the time to work with you to find where your problem areas are, and gives you tips on how to work on things. I can't recommend her to enough people because she really is so knowledgeable about what she does. I've never thought I could afford regular massages, but with Kaysie it well worth it! read more

I was a bridesmaid in my friends's wedding (just yesterday!) and the entire bridal party, including the mother of the bride, had our hair and make-up done at the Ruby Room. Excellent full-service stylists and fantastic customer service! The party was divided between two very talented ladies, Amber and Georgia. At around 10:30am, Georgia did my hair and make-up exactly as I had requested-- of course, she had plenty of creative leeway-- and to my surprise, both the hair and make-up stayed put throughout the entire night. She was extremely knowledgeable about what would work best with my skin tones, face structure and hair texture. But aside from her amazing skills, Georgia was super sweet and really made the entire morning lots of fun for everyone. I would absolutely recommend her as a stylist for any formal occasions you may have in the future-- I'll certainly be returning. Amber also did a fabulous job with her half of the party. All of us were extremely happy with our services! About the Ruby Room itself: really gorgeous studio with a functional and fun layout; products were excellent (Bumble & Bumble, and the Ruby Room's own line of products for hair and face-- we all really loved the tinted moisturizer!); customer service was phenomenal. They even brought out a bottle of champagne for us while we were getting ready! It was the perfect start to my friend's special day. Thank you, ladies!! read more

This review is for a hair cut/style I had last night with Amber a.k.a. "The Miracle Worker." In September I decided to stop dying my long hair and let the natural grey come in, cold turkey. It was clearly becoming a hot mess, and after a completely misguided and foolish attempt to cut my own bangs I realized that I needed professional help before things got any worse. Amber was totally amazing from start to finish. She totally "got" what I was dealing with, made me completely at ease, and gave me such a fantastic cut and style that I can't get over it. I was somewhat worried that my decision to go grey would make me look older, but I actually look younger. Sassypants me... who would have thought. I would recommend to anyone needing a good hair cut, go see Amber. And if you're growing out your dye job and need professional guidance, run, don't walk, run, down to the Ruby Room and see Amber. Right now. Heck, if you're in the neighborhood, just stop in to meet her, 'cause she is awesomesauce, the real deal. And give her a hug for me. read more

I've taken a lot of yoga with a lot of different instructors, and Tina Nauha is up there with the best. She instructs without judgment and is able to personalize her instruction depending on who's in class and how they feel. Sadly, the yoga studio at Ruby Room has closed (a beautiful, peaceful space) but I would recommend following Tina wherever she finds herself (I'm going to!) read more

I have extremely difficult hair and almost always leave hair salons depressed about my cut. I started going to Julia at Ruby Room about a year and a half ago and I will not let anyone besides her cut my hair now. She listens to you about what you want, taking into consideration your threshold for styling and product, and always comes up with a fresh, natural cut. And if it couldn't get any better, she is sweet and funny too. I would recommend this salon, and particularly Juila to anyone, in fact I regularly do. read more

I wouldn't go anywhere else ever again for a spa treatment. If you need a massage or are feeling down, GO SEE ASLANA. She is amazing. it is unfortunate that I have had so many bad experiences with the receptionists at this place, because otherwise it has the potential to be a really fabulous place. if you can somehow sidestep them, the services are quite good. they are cold, rude, inconsiderate (even to the other people who work there) and have no clue about customer service. I put up with it for over a year because of Amy, but sadly a situation of non-loyalty from all involved was the final straw. I left work two hours early because of inclement weather (it would usually take me about 45 minutes to get there); after my train broke down, a cab driver going the wrong way and sorely choosing the path with all the traffic jams, I got out of the cab, in the pouring rain, ran 12 blocks and ended up being 15 minutes late. oh, and by the way, I called in the cab that I was running late. they wouldn't take me. they said I was too late, Amy had already gone home (already gone home in just 15 minutes!!!! clearly she was tapping her foot at 5:00) and that I would have to pay the FULL service fee for "cancelling" on late notice. bottom line is they expect loyalty from their customers but clearly do not believe in the return. there are way too many good places in Chicago to go to for an eyebrow wax and Arcona products for them to treat their customers like they are nobody - I for one have said after a year and a half of walking in that door and feeling like crap, I've had enough. (I would give more stars if you could just go in and get the services; although Amy was a disappointment in the loyalty category; I had been going to her for over a year and she couldn't even wait until I got there to talk with me about my options for running late). read more

Laura was really fantastic. She was super friendly, gave me some great advice on cut, color and products...and I felt like she really listened to what I wanted. My color turned out perfectly. I would definitely recommend her. The space is also super cute and the receptionist was really nice and helpful. read more

This salon is so personable and very happy to give great customer service. I went to Christina in March and she did such a wonderful job of highlighting/cutting my hair, that I made another appt for May. Again, the service was a A+. Unfortunately, Christina just moved out West, but she did give me a couple of names of girls that she recommended in the Salon. I want to go back for a massage and facials. The aroma in the Salon is very soothing and relaxing. read more

I came into the salon for the first time about two weeks ago, and was really pleased with my hair color. I had an appointment with Randee, who is a total sweetheart and very down to earth. She was easy to talk to and worked with precision and expertise of a master stylist. Overall, the spa is very trendy and cute with a relaxing, fun atmosphere and a great location. I'd definitely reccommend the Ruby Room - and Randee - to anyone looking for a good spa/hair color in Chicago! read more

I was sold after talking to the phone receptionist who described the massage service, so I booked a 90 minute massage. The place and personnel were welcoming and the atmosphere feels calming from the moment you walk through the door. There are fun surprises, such as choosing a chakra card to determine the best scent for your current mood, which is then sprayed throughout the massage. Kaysie gave me a relaxing yet energizing massage that transformed me into a puddle of smiles. She gave me advice for future massages, maintaining my well-being, and nurtured me with scents, touch, attention to tight spots, warm towels...heaven! read more

I just had an UNBELIEVABLE experience at Ruby Room this past Saturday. I had the 90 minute Chakrassage with hot stones with Gladys and it was to.die.for. I have never felt so relaxed and at peace! Excellent location, kind of quirky, clean tastefully appointed room with great lighting, steam shower, yoga on site, a kitchen, lovely garden and free fast wireless - wow. I stayed here 2 nights last week, and I think this is now my favorite Chicago hotel. The neighborhood is hopping - independent shops and excellent restaurants abound. It's a 15 min bus ride to Michigan Ave but restaurants in the area were superb and perhaps the best bakery in Chicago is right across the street. Neighborhoods are Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village. The room was lovely - 3B. Downsides were tight parking situation (the rare unzoned street spot), room looks directly into office across a gangway and the mattress needs replacing - very saggy. Other than that, it was a wonderful place in a wonderful location and I highly recommend it. Try Chickpea restaurant on Chicago! read more

I stayed at the Ruby room on a Tuesday night and slept great. Bed is super comfortable I might suggest that you invest in those sleep sound machines which could be used if the street noise is bothersome.. I also had a fantastic massage with Julie. I think the Ruby Room is wonderful! There is a way to find true enlightenment there. The staff is friendly and compassionate. The services are truly amazing. I can't wait to try everything there! My absolute favorite place in the city. read more

My wonderful husband gave me a gift card for a massage as a Christmas gift. When he gave it to me is said something like, "its a hippy place. I figured you like yoga you would like this." Well, he was 100% right. It took extremely holistic approach to a spa. Not only was the environment amazing, the massage was WONDERFUL! I told Logan, my masseuse, that iIcarry my stress in my shoulders. He went to town working out all the knots. I felt extremely comfortable with him. I left feeling lighter and ready to take on the world (to return to grad school) Already booked my next appointment. read more

I just started using the Ruby Room in December for massages. I have had hundreds of massages, due to injuries I sustained, and this was, by far, the best massage I have ever had. I bought a package that day. After a couple snafu's with my package, I talked with and then met the manager. He could not have been nicer. He apologized for the mistakes and then figured out a way to make things better. I have been there a total of 4 times now. The staff are all very nice. The facility is clean, serene and beautifully decorated. I have not tried any of the salon services, but I would like to soon and look forward to it. read more

This is review is about the inn. We love it here. The rooms are clean and comfy - very relaxing. Kyle who works the front desk in the spa and handles the Inn reservations was beyond kind and helpful. How unfortunate! Have been to Ruby Room a few times and was really trying to find "my spa and salon." I have had a couple experiences at the desk that were less than pleasant but didn't let them get me down! All my services were fantastic from the colonic to the facial. Here is the unfortunate part. At my last visit after my uplifting facial I decided to do a little shopping before paying. While browsing there were two associates at the desk snickering and bad mouthing their coworkers in earshot of me! I was horrified! They didn't even bat a lash knowing I was there!!!!! Best part is that I received an email today from Ruby Room featuring one of their employees and it turns out that one of the girls that I overheard that day is their "customer service lead"!! Thought this was a positive energy environment! Guess not! Word to the owners, hire some professionals. It will make a big difference at your desk! I did visit a place called equilibrium last week that blew my mind! If you're reading this, check this place out! It's amazing! read more

I am certainly not the kind of person to write a bad review--however, after having my hair done at the Ruby Room (and walking out with an orange-tinted mullet), I felt like it would be an injustice not to review. I will say one thing: Ruby Room did try to rectify the hair color problem. I was there for three days in a row (over 8 hours in total), and the color remained the same. I'm not really picky about color, but it had been dyed a very uneven and bright shade of orange instead of blonde. I had to go to another salon, which was finally able to take the orange out of my blond hair in a single hour. The Ruby Room also butchered my hair cut. I recently went to a great shoulder-length style, which was hacked into by the stylist who cut very short layers all over my curly-haired head. The end result: a rendition of the mullet. Please don't make the same mistake I did and make sure you do your research before going to a salon, and make sure the salon has a robust training program. read more

I was EXTREMELY disappointed in my experience with the Ruby Room. I bought the Groupon like so many others here, primarily because I wanted a massage. Well, Ruby Room clearly sold too many Groupons because they couldn't fit me in for a massage even though I called 2 months before the groupon expired. Fine, trying to be flexible I scheduled, a haircut, a deep-conditioning and a brow wax. Wel, had the haircut which was ok- certainly not great, I had to get her to re-cut parts of it so it looked right. I then had the brow wax which was good. When I went to check out I mentioned to the receptionist that I think they forgot to do my conditioning. Hello! Well, after I had already been there 1:45 minutes, she said, "oh yah, we did forget it, we can do it now". A little bit ridiculous considering the girl had already styled and washed my hair once. So, I was only able to use $100 of my $125 Groupon. I asked if I could use it towards products or jewelry as I didn't have any more time to waste and needed to be at an event. The receptionist said no...I'm sorry, but there is something called customer service, and if you want people to come back you make an exception. She chose not to. I absolutely will not return to this facility...and will certainly pass my feelings and the fact that I wasted money on this Groupon to friends and likely to Groupon itself. The Ruby Room clearly could not meet the demand they had for the Groupon and should have prepared better. Business Management 101! read more

I wanted to provide an update because you so rarely see them. Lindsey continues to be incredibly insightful. She has an uncanny way of explaining how to get the best out of a situation or what the best outcome is. She continues to be honest with her intuitive thoughts as well as what the Tarot cards are saying. She has helped me push myself outside of my comfort zone and since I've seen her regularly I've had nothing but positive results. I got a new job due to advice she gave me on how to pursue it, I improved a really important relationship in my life and have learned how to better communicate with others. While I will take the responsibility for doing the work involved, I give her so much credit for guiding me along the way and proving her insight is spot on time and time again. I've referred many of my friends to her who have equally been impressed with how spot on she is about people that she's never met. read more

I was nervous about staying here, given the generally negative reviews. I don't know why others have had such a bad experience - my husband and I stayed here for three nights and have, really, nothing but good things to say. We had a great modern room (plenty of light, awesome bed, fun furnishings), the concierge who brought us up to our room DID offer to help us take our bags up to the 4th floor, since there is no elevator. I knew we wouldn't have "full-service", but, so the bed stays unmade and you hang your towel bag up after you shower, so what? It's true they didn't bother us in our room once we'd settled in - except to leave some fresh flowers in the bathroom! I even got a haircut while there; the spa staff were all really friendly, fast and professional, and once they knew I was staying there too they asked how we liked it and to let them know if we needed anything. Both an early check-in and a late check-out were accomodated with ease. For this dork, the neighborhood is pretty hipster, but that also meant great bars, bakeries and funky - if overpriced - little boutiques in which to browse. The place is 3 blocks to the Blue line, which gets you into the Loop in 15 min. All in all, Ruby Room is a great concept, and I look forward to recommending it to friends! read more

The first time I went to Ruby Room, I was pretty unimpressed. The staff was very disorganized and the spa treatments felt as if I was trapped inside an informercial for the various products the "front of the house" store could sell to me after my treatment concluded. However, I have a good friend who raves about their facials, so I decided to chalk it up to RR having an off day and try it one more time. My most recent visit did not let me down. I had a facial from Raquel, and she did a phenomenal job. It was the basic Arcona facial, but the experience was far less than basic! The products she used were lovely, and the enzyme peel (while tingly-itchy) left my face clean and bright. Raquel's massage techniques, especially for the kinks in my neck, were extraordinary. And she even gave me a mini make-up application afterwards! Throughout my service, I did not feel that Raquel was pushing products on me, and I really appreciated it. While my day there on this return visit was a five-star experience, I'm reserving the extra star until I return a few more times to ensure this platinum-level treatment is consistent, and the initial experience I had was just an anomaly. read more

I have not used any of the spa services here, but I do use the salon and have an amazing experience each time. Toni is the stylist I always book with. She is very attentive and talented. There are times where I havee just given her a VERY vague idea of a style I would like and she was able to give me the perfect cut that I was imagining. She is very intuitive that way. I am one of those people that likes to change it up from time to time so I have also had her do highlights and full color for me as well and it always turns out amazing! I have been to other salons and other stylists that have no clue what you are asking for, don't give you the cut/color you asked for, or just do a plain old bad job. Not here, and not with Toni. I will never go to anyone else as long as she is around! And a plus about the salon, the hair color they use is Aveda (I believe), and it is a wonderful quality product. Other salon colors have severely stained my scalp, been uncomfortable or even burned on my scalp while deveolping, etc. This color left almost nothing behond on my scalp, did not feel uncomfortable at all while it was sitting, and it looked fabulous! It also did not fade quickly like come colors do. After my most recent hair appointment, Toni even offered to have someone touch up my makeup for me. I feel so awful that I can't remember the name of the lovely girl that helped me, but she was very talented as well. She listened to what I wanted, what I was doing when I left, and did not "over-do" it like some make up artists can. She was also very pleasant and we had a long conversation while she gave me my mini makeover. Overall I am very pleased with this salon, the products they use, and their staff. read more

I had heard about this place before from friends that had come here for different services. I decided to buy a groupon for a haircut and try it out. A few days before I was going to go in, I messed up my do-it-yourself ombre and frantically called to see if I could get in the next day to have them correct and color my hair. I was able to get in the next morning (fantastic customer service) for both services. I had Katie do my cut and tone out my hair to the exact color that I had initially wanted to do for myself. She was phenomenal! I have been looking for years for a place where I could go regularly, feel comfortable and not worry whether or not I will get the style I am looking for. Katie did a wonderful job! The atmosphere of this place is amazing and the staff is incredibly nice. I cannot wait to return for my next cut. Even though I used a groupon, after reviewing their prices, it is not bad at all compared to other places I have gone and paid much more for average cuts and colors. I highly recommend this place! read more

I went to Ruby Room last weekend on the advice of my sister, who works there. They're running a great promotion for $59 facials from prettycity.com. My facial was fantastic, also got a wax which was less painful than the place I normally go. Everything was great until I was checked out. I feel like my pampering services were completely ruined by the girl at the front desk who checked me out. She demanded the coupon, which there was no mention upon booking or even on the website that I needed to present it upon checkout. Even after offering to go home and get the coupon, she continued loudly hemming and hawing over it. It was kind of embarrassing since she spoke to me like I was a 10 year old in front of other clients. I could understand if it said somewhere that I needed the coupon in hand at checkout. Then she ignored me as I was standing in front of her in need of a pen. Her attitude was condescending and I cannot believe she works with the public. read more

While I had only heard good things about their accomodations, my trip to Chicago got cancelled so I needed to cancel my room. That's when I got 2 stories; 1 the Ruby Room requires TWO WEEKS OF NOTICE (written), 2) the Ruby Room requires ONE FULL WEEK OF NOTICE (verbal) in order to cancel a room. If you don't give them this extremely long amount of notice (which was impossible in my case, because I didn't even reserve the room 2 weeks before staying there) they keep ALL OF YOUR MONEY. That's right, they don't charge a fee for the inconvenience of rescheduling, or offer to change your reservation to a future date, THEY KEEP ALL OF YOUR MONEY AND YOU'RE OUT OF LUCK. So, if you're absolutely, positively sure you'll be at the Ruby Room on a particular night, you might want to give them a shot. For me, this policy needs to be changed. I understand that they want to be compensated for the inconvenience of last minute changes, but what is the incentive for an honest person to call and tell them that they can't make it, only to have the Ruby Room double book the room for the night? Until the rule is changed, I would recommend that you ABSOLUTEY, POSITIVELY DON'T RESERVE A ROOM AT THE RUBY ROOM. If you want to say there, I would walk in and pay for it the night of the stay. read more

I bought the groupon for a "relax and glow" facial and it was amazing. Alison had such a calming spirit about her that made me relax instantly before we even stepped foot into the room. She thoroughly went through each step of the facial before hand and answered any questions I had about it. While the peel was on my face, she did a shoulder, arm, and hand massage that was amazing; most other places I've been for a facial don't offer that. My skin feels amazing and hydrated because I am as dry as an alligator. She did offer a serum for my skin which I will probably purchase next time, it has an ingredient that I am picky with - which is not her fault but does feel amazing! I wish I could afford to go back every 4 weeks like they suggest, I'm considering 6-8 weeks because it was just that relaxing and great. They even offer a weekday still with two 60 min treatments for less than $300, sounds like a great stay-cation to me. If you haven't gone, check groupon for a discount because it will be worth it and you won't feel as guilty because their prices are a little high. read more
