At first glance this shop is so beautiful. The customer service is better than most shops I've been to. However, I stopped getting my nails done for months due to lack of care from technicians and poor quality rough work. On first impressions I expected this shop to be a little different so I gave them a try. First off I asked for a gel pedicure and a acrylic full set with french tip. I tried to keep it simple because I assumed there was no way they could mess that up. Unfortunately, towards the end of my pedicure when it was almost time to paint my feet the technician began rushing telling me that she had an appointment she forgot about. So she painted my nails quickly I didn't at the time notice she didn't allow enough time for my feet to dry before she sent me off to the young lady doing my nails. I moved over to the next chair and I got my nails done. I didn't really love her method of french but at the end it came out with a result that I could live with. I also purposely got them short because Longer nails tend to break easily for me. I paid about $125 w/ a cash tip for service. As I was leaving out of the shop I looked down and realized my toe nail paint was buckling mind you this is gel polish so I went back in asked the man upfront if someone could repaint them so the young lady who did my finger nails sat me back down and eventually had to remove the paint off of my nails and start over, due to the first technician rushing and I was told by the young lady fixing them that she didn't allow enough time for all of the paint layers to dry hence the paint buckling. Now onto my nails, this a big reason why I no longer do nail shops. It hasn't even been two full weeks yet and on the first 4 days, one of my nails popped off completely from reaching down and picking my dogs toy up from my patio. So here I am 4 days later upset because if the full set was properly done there's no way this would've happened so easily. About 3 days later another nail pops off taking my hair out of a loose bun. So for the pricing I just believe they need to do better with their quality of work and techniques. I don't think ill be back here unfortunately but hope this helps them to improve! read more

One of the best shops I've been to. They have an enormous selection of gel and dip manicure colors. Other shops have decent selections, but this shop takes the cake! The staff is always pleasant and helpful with color suggestions or nail care tips. My mother, my aunt, and I typically frequent the shop together, and they are always happy to accomodate all three of us and have our appointments sync up. I have been going to this salon since last summer. And it has been hit or miss. On a couple of occasions when I got home the gel has bubble up on my nail and it eventually ends up coming off in about a week. Well it happened to several of my nails at Christmas when I was out of town. When I got back I went in and the owner wanted me to charge for a color change and I told him I was not paying for something that didn't last a week. He told me it was up to the manicurist whether she would do them again. I told him no way. Well he sent me with another manicurist and after she did my nails she tried to charge me for a color change, I said it was no charge and I gave her a tip and left. It went to another salon and didn't really care for it so I tried Ruby again. Explained to the manicurist about my previous visits and she was very understanding and friendly and look like a good job until I got home and could see in the light. The top coat was missing on the side of the nails and some nails were really thick on the ends. I know they may not think it is a lot of money to get mani and pedi's but I know how long it takes for me to make the money I spend on it. I have been visiting Ruby's Nails in Mechanicsville for quite a few years now. I was always extremely happy with and throughly enjoyed my visits. This has not been the case on my last two visits. I am not sure where all of the employees they had have gone or why they left, yet, the service I received the last two times did not compare to previous few years. The quality of the dip powder nails was not equivalent nor was the conversation. It seems to be much less personal than I've ever seen it there. I have only seen one of the usual happy faces in there of late. It feels so much less inviting and comfortable. Board of Health where are you? I went with my adult daughter for a mani/pedi. My daughter has a disability, but no problems with intelligence, speech, or hearing. The staff wouldn't speak to her until I repeatedly told them to stop talking about her, talk to her. We were brought to the pedi station and sat there while 2 employees bickered over who was going to work on us. Next came soak time and I told the woman twice the water was too cold. She walked away multiple times to do God knows what and finally when I reminded her the third time she made the water a little warmer. I then watched her pull metal supplies out of an already opened, rumpled bag that she swore up and down was autoclaved and not used on anyone else. She next pulled out a black nail file that was coated with other people's white toe shavings. I told her she wasn't going to use that on me. I wanted a single use nail file and supplies and I would pay the difference. She huffed off and I never saw her again. The employee doing my daughter's nails pulled a metal nail clipper out of her carry tote that was already extended and did not come out of an autoclave bag. I told my daughter, "That's it, we're out of here." The manager came over and asked why we were leaving. I explained what occurred and informed him about the risk of contracting hepatitis, fungal infections, etc. He made excuses for his employees instead of addressing the issues. Is there anywhere in this town that actually autoclaves their metal instruments and has single use disposable equipment? This is the third nail salon I've frequented since moving to the area and I saw the same unsanitary conditions in each of them. Doesn't the Board of Health inspect these nail salons? read more

I went on Sunday March 3, 2019 and it was very busy but they moved everyone fairly quick. I got the dip powder and before this I wouldn't have thought to get it. At Ruby's today, my mom, my daughter and myself... 3 pedicures and a fill in. Young man at front desk did not have our appointment information correct, still could not get it correct after we talked to him at the counter which left 1 of us waiting alone about 5 minutes to join the others for our pedicures. The pedicures are very rushed now, I've noticed this very often over numerous visits. My nails look very rough. I have been very unhappy with the front desk, the dysfunction of the staff knowing what to do and the very poor quality of nails. I have had acrylic nails on since 2016 and a loyal customer but the lady 1 year and a half or so have been very poor/bad and I drive 1 hour and 40 minutes to get here. This place is great. Every time I go I'm always helped instantly and never have had to wait. They don't pressure you into anything and they always offer a drink and snacks (I chose wine and they have cheese with crackers and fruit). The ladies are all very kind and take their time with your service. While your nails dry the nail techs massage your shoulders which is the best thing ever. For a deluxe pedicure including hot stone massage and a shellac manicure my total is about $60, totally affordable and worth it compared to the $80 I was paying in another city. They also shape my nails SO well and they haven't broken or chipped. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable. This place is my go-to nail salon since being back home. read more

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!! I came for a GNO with my best friend thinking since the décor was nice, then the services would match, but I was completely wrong. The first girl who was supposed to assist me got up and went to help someone else without saying a word to me, so I was left just sitting; STRIKE 1! Then, about five minutes later, another lady comes to begin my work...although she was nice, my manicure is not living up to the hype of this establishment. It's Day Two, and my cuticles look like I haven't had a mani in 6 months. The polish looks old, and my nails just aren't happy at all. While, I was there I told them I'd do a pedicure with my friend...no one ever came back to set me up, they filled all the chairs, and never said a word to see if I was ready; we received manis first. Of course, my friend was taken over right away. After that, I was completely done with this place. I live on the West End, and it was my first time. They pulled the lady who did my mani to go do another lady's mani, WTF! I'm so glad I didn't waste my money getting a pedi after what my mani looks like. I don't feel like I received the same service as the other women in there, and no one kept me in the loop of anything! I called back asking them to remedy the situation, as in a refund because I'll be you know what if they think I'm going back. I spoke with the manager who threw the phone to someone else because she was "busy" and needed to call me back! What?! She could've just taken care of the issue in one call. I will continue to write poor reviews until something is done! I'll stick to Relax Nails in West End from now on! Im highly dissatisfied with Ruby Nails. Terrible today. I wasn't greeted. I wasn't offered any beverages as advertised. I wasn't feeling like the nail tech liked her job she seemed to be mad at me. I definitely didn't get my nails the way I wanted them and she didn't ask me if I was ok with the shape of them. I was too scared to ask her to do anything different after she snapped at me about the length of the nails being an issue. Just not what i expected. The salon is very professionally decorated and provides a relaxing experience. They have the most colors to choose from of both in gel and regular polish. My mother and I have been customers for over 10 years. We have recommended many friends and family to ruby over the years. A few months back I had TWO terribly done sets of nails, both times they agreed to redo them and refund me! They didn't either times. So I requested a charge back from my bank. The last experience I had there was the straw that broke the camels back, the owner grabbed my hand, yelled in my face and then said go to a nail tech that used to work there at his new nail salon. Today the owner reached out to my mother over fb messenger BANNING her and i from coming back. I have not been in there since February, but to ban my mother is a whole other level of petty,poor customer service, and business ethics. My mother and I are two very different people! The one star is for the management!!!!! The technicians are all amazing. I have had an appointment twice and have gone and I'm not on the book , one time had an appointment and my technician was just given a walk in . I understand they want the business but I would hope they wouldn't want to lose the business they have. The young man that works the desk should be the only to take and make appointments or teach the rest of the staff how to take them correctly with the appropriate time given . I've been here a few times & it's super convienient since I live about 2 seconds away. Didnt have a problem with anything except for last night. Now I understand that they were closing up, but we did arrive an hour before they closed.. For a pedi & a fill. My pedi was amazing, as always... But my fill was sloppy, uneven & my pinky nail was dented at the tip. My hands were super dried out from the acetone & still are a day later. My suggestion would be that if you want anything done right & not rushed, don't go anytime after 6:30pm. In the area and looked up reviews on nail salons in the area, this place had great reviews. The place is pretty nice and upscale but the nail tech Lisa that I had was awful and very inexperienced. I got a pedicure an she kept digging in the side of my toe nail with a wooden stick trying to get the polish off my skin that she had messed up. She was very aggressive in her massage to my legs beating them so hard it hurt I had to ask her to stop. The polish she put on my toes was bad and on my cuticles. I did not complain and went on with her to get my nails done. She put tips on my nails and asked how short would I like them. I told her very short I don't like long nails, she cut them at least three times per my request and told me they not look good to short. I insisted they be shorter she said I will file them shorter. She put so much nail glue on my nails it was on my skin. She started to put the acrylic on my nails and I told her I don't like it thick. She did two nails and had a mound of acrylic on them. I had also told her before she started my nails that I needed to leave by a certain time and she assured me should would be done, fifteen minutes before I had to leave she had only had acrylic on two nails and it looked awful. I told her I needed to leave soon she said sorry I won't be done. I told her the nails were to thick and I did not want her to continue, she then starting grinding my nail and trying to scrape the acrylic off, hurting me that I had to pull my hands away. The manager walked over and I told him what was going on and he asked if I would come back later, I told him no and that I was not from the area. I offered to pay for my pedicure but he told me no don't worry about paying. I believe this place may have decent nail techs that regulars go to and make appointments with but Lisa was awful and I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!! read more

First time at Ruby Nails. I recently moved to Virginia and have been trying different salons. The person who did my pedicure seemed insufficiently trained and didn't really know what she was doing. I had no idea who to ask for and it seems I had their newest employee. I have ingrown toenails that give me trouble and she didn't address them although I mentioned them to her. The paint didn't cover all my nails and there were air bubbles on one of my nails. Also, it's inconvenient to not be able to leave a tip when paying with a credit card. They "conveniently" have an ATM where you can get cash but it charges a fee. Very convenient to where I live but a disappointing experience overall. read more

The lady at the desk was quite rude and seemed put out that I was a walk in. I picked out my polish and proceeded to the spot where a lady, whom I could not hear nor understand, directed so another lady helped. Yet another lady proceeded to turn on the water and waited for me to insert my feet, then she left. The water was way too hot so I found yet another lady to help. She did. Contrary to the previous review, I had an excellent experience at this nail salon. I went in to get a regular pedicure and a shellac manicure. My pedicure was a normal pedicure..nothing too special, but that's okay because I wasn't going in there for a super formal occasion. The technician that did my shellac was excellent! She offered her advice for selection of color for my occasion and nail length. Throughout the session, she was talkative and we had good conversation. To top everything off, the mini massage they give while your nails are drying was perfect! Overall, I was very pleased with this business and plan to return again and again!! I was reading all the reviews from the many nail salons in Mechanicsville and decided to try Ruby's nails. They had a mixture of good and bad reviews. I have to say I was very pleased. I was greeted within 2 minutes of entering and was told it would be about a 10 min wait. It was about a 10 min wait. The lady that did my nails name was Tina and she was very nice. She advised me why my nails are so short and break all the time and what to do to prevent it. I will definitely be going back and recommend to anyone. read more

The past three gel manicures I have gotten here have peeled off within days. I went back twice to get them fixed, but even the "fix" peeled off. The last time I was in, my manicure and pedicure took over two hours, and it STILL peeled in three days. The new salon is nice, but the focus seems to be more on ambiance and less on the quality of the nail service. I won't be going back. read more

Getting your nails done here is fine. They do a great job with that, but the issues is they ripped off the skin under my eyebrows while i was getting them waxed. The wax was obviously too hot. I highly don't recommend this place. read more
