Fabulous small business that really knows his craft. He is reasonably priced but he can move slower than promised. I work nearby & needed an alteration on only the length of my bridesmaids dress. I came in on a Saturday & told him that I needed it by Tuesday. When it was time to pay for my dress up, I saw the credit card machine set to $78!! For an "express" hem. I don't know what the definition of express is but I guess 3 days is "express." I was shocked at this steep price & I made a comment on how expensive it is for just a hem on the length. He's also not friendly with a grouchy face & answered back, "the price should be double!" Thankfully he steamed my dress but as I was waiting for him to finish.. another customer came in to pick up 3 pants. It seems he forgot & asked the customer to either come back at the end of the day or tomorrow morning. What a bummer.. the guy was really understanding but still no apology from Ruben on not finishing Anyway.. $78 for an "express" hem on a bridesmaid dress. Dropped off Saturday & picked up Tuesday. I'll be honest, I'm afraid to bring my suits to a tailor, especially suits that are almost 80 years old! I was given a beautiful vintage 1940's suit for Christmas, and while it fits me to a T, it needed some love and care especially inside the jacket collar. Luckily, most of the damage was inside the suit jacket but can see the lapel coming loose. I was recommended to bring it to Ruben's. When I got there, it wasn't the cleanest or fanciest spot where the tailor is wearing a $5000 bespoke suit and offers you water from Singapore. Ruben wasn't there, but another gentleman was. He was helpful when I showed him the tear in my suit collar, he asked if I wanted done that day but I understand it takes time. so I said I'll pick it up next week. But leaving my suit jacket there was like dropping off your kid to school on the first day, I was a worried parent when I left. A week went by and on my way to Ruben's, I had all these terrible scenarios running through my head: What if he did some Frankenstein stitch job on it? What if they accidentally sell the jacket to someone else? Why am I in back of this police vehicle? I got there, and the moment I walked in, I see some guy passed out on the couch. At first I thought it was Ruben, and I thought "Poor fella must've spent all night working on my jacket!", but then I saw Ruben himself working the finishing touches of my suit jacket. Horrible experience, very unorganized. Took a dress to get tailored, when arriving for pick up a week later the dress was no where to be found, they asked me to take a seat while Ruben himself arrived. While waiting there was another customer who mentioned they had her waiting for over 2 hours, another customer arrived for pick up, they returned his items without even noticing that they were never worked on. After waiting some time the dress was found and also never worked on. Very frustrating as the dress was needed first thing the next morning. They right away got to working on the dress, when it came to payment, a discount for my time loss and the inconvenience would haven been the least, I asked Ruben & he still questioned why ask if nothing had happened. Went in person and asked them to sow my bag. They said to come back in a few hours. I asked them how much it would be, to which the older man said "300 million dollars!" We laughed and then he said "No worries, don't worry about it" I thought "oh, that's nice". When I came back to pick it up 2 hours later, I handed his assistant some cash and the older man said "no, it's $65". I was very confused as he explicitly told me not to worry about it. He said that he assumed that I had money (I had brought in a Louis Vuitton purse, but it was fake). I told him that he should never assume what somebody makes off of what they look like, and it's important that he is clear with his clients what the prices are. Then, he tried to get me to pay him $45, and was being very condescending and complaining to me about his light bill and water bill for the store. They also took a hefty chunk of change out of my purse that I didn't notice until I left. My purse looks horrible by the way but I paid 30 dollars for it so it's whatever. TOTAL RIP OFF. I came in for 2 jeans that had rips in them. He gave me a quote when I first got there after he put in a ticket in. $48.. for rips in some jeans. They are orange tab Levi's too. He kept saying the person who did them before totally messed them up. (I had no clue because I got them second hand) when I got home and looked at it. It seemed like he didn't do anything to it ???? I'm confused. The other pair of jeans looks like a home Ed student did them. It was sloppy. I went to get a dress hemmed with a couple of other items. I was not told the price upfront and when I went to pick it up he told me the dress alone would be $65. This is double what I've seen other places charge. I also asked to pay for the majority of the cost in cash and $20 on my card. After I gave him the cash, he charged my card the full amount and handed me back the cash saying he forgot. While Ruben was nice, I was frustrated with the lack of transparency and the organization of the sale. read more

I had a few of my boots repaired with him and ALL of them look HORRIBLE. Here is one example. They poured glue all over my $500 boots and on the other not enough glue and they came apart the first time I wore them!!! I also asked him to dye my other black boots to make them darker and bring them back to life- WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY they look exactly the same!!! Excellent work on my favorite sport coat. Over the last few years I have lost roughly 45 lbs. My favorite jacket no longer fit. I tried and tried to find an adequate replacement but failed miserably. Came here on a Wednesday to drop off a pair of pants that needed to be hemmed. The man had me try on my pants and measured the desired length I wanted. He was very friendly, and informed me that my pants would be ready by Friday. Friday afternoon, I came back to pick up my pants. The man told me it wasn't ready, he literally haven't started on it. I told him it was ok, I will pick it up sometime next week. Luckily I wasn't in a rush to wear the pants anytime soon, so I wasn't really bothered. I work nearby the tailor, so I decided to not rush on picking it up. Friday came again and I was so sure my pants would be ready. This time it was a different man working, I gave him my ticket as he starts to look for my pants. At first he was about to give me someone else's pants?(he didn't even bother looking to match my ticket to the pant) I informed him it wasn't mine. He was looking for my pants for a while and couldn't find it. I told him the color of the pants and it was no where in his rack of clothes. Luckily I spotted my brown pants piled up with a bunch of other clothes on their back table. (Obviously they don't keep things organized) As he pulled my pants out, he said it wasn't ready because he had some questions about the bottoms?(They had my pants for over a week? And didn't bother calling me?) I just wanted them hemmed, then he starts measuring me with the pants as I hold it up on my hips. I told him it's already been measured as the pins were still attached to the bottom of my pants. He insisted and marked my pants with his chalk. The chalk mark looks so much more shorted than the pins attached. From there I knew, I was not about to get my pants cut too short! I even had to show him the big difference of the pins and chalk marks! So I told him, I rather take my pants elsewhere. Bad service, unreliable... take my business elsewhere. read more

If you want a tailor who gives you your material on-time, this is not the place for you. Everything seemed great when I entered the door with my $70 blazer on Sunday. The tailor (which I'm guessing was Ruben) came out from behind this half wall, clothes thrown everywhere throughout this beat-up shop, CLAIMED that he was able to take out the shoulder pads from my blazer by Wednesday. He was cracking jokes and trying to talk me out of what I came to him for. He was trying to convince me that the shoulder pads look fine and I don't need to get them out. OKAY RUBEN. I GET IT! I do not want to look like a broad shouldered bafoon! Therefore, he said he could get it done by Wednesday--I needed the blazer Thursday, so everything looked good so far. When I came Wednesday morning 15 minutes after they opened, another gentleman was there to assist me. After waiting 5 minutes while he hiked through all the clothes on the ground, furniture, random dusty shelves, he could not locate the blazer. He called Ruben and asked where it was, Ruben reports that it is not finished and I come back tomorrow. IT IS A WASTE OF MY TIME TO DRIVE OUT HERE AND NOT GET WHAT I PAID FOR!!! He not only could not locate the item at the time, but suddenly remembers it's not even finished. After a brief argument, I reluctantly left (because he couldn't even find it in that dumpster of a room anyway) to come back an hour later to a finished, dusty blazer. On top of everything that they put me through to finally get the finished product, he did not even discount any of the blazer for my wasted time and gas money, AND tolerance! I was late to work and did not even get a good quality tailoring job --probably cause he was rushed to finish it. TERRIBLE tailoring service, UNTRUSTWORTHY staff, PATHETIC customer service, and honestly just a smelly, dusty, gross business. If any of this yelp review sparks you interest, then by all means, GO! However, just know what you are getting yourself into. I had to come home and shower off the gross odors and horrendous service after entering this Hell hole. If I were to compare this place to one thing, it would be a haunted house on halloween. Enough said. read more

**PLEASE READ** I WAS CALLED A MOTHER FUCKER BY THE OWNER!! *** Short and simple. Ruben said he would have my dress ready by Friday 5pm. Friday came and it wasn't ready. I told him when I dropped it off I was flying out Saturday so I really needed it done, and he assured me it would be. Obviously it wasn't. So I was upset to find out my dress wasn't ready. Long story short he wanted me to pay for the zíper (that he broke while measuring my dress) that he fixed but yet it wasn't hemmed (original reason I went for) so I told him I didn't think it was fair for me to pay him. He continued to THROW the dress at me and said "Get out of my shop you MOTHER FUCKER" My face he called me a MORHER FUCKER. I just simply responded with "wow very nice manners" as I was walking out the shop he kept saying "FUCK YOU" "FUCK YOU". I obviously didn't stoop to his level, so I just left. He then asked how he can be of service and accommodated me and advised that it would only be $20 for waste and length alterations. The garment was ready at the time and date that we agreed upon. SUPER NICE - AMAZING PEOPLE! VERY ACCOMMODATING! I needed a patch sewn onto my uniform on a Sunday at 4:59pm (I know, right ;) which, I was sure they weren't going to be able to Accommodate me but, was I ever wrong! I am so grateful for their hospitality. They went above and beyond; not only by helping me at 4:59 but he also offered to press both my shirt and pants (this kind of customer service is unheard of these days). Now please keep in mind, this is after hours and they didn't have to do that whatsoever but those are the kind of people they are! I've been going to Ruben's for years, and I think I owe him an overdue review so here it goes: 1. Ruben: very friendly and knowledgable. He will not accept the job just for the money. There were times I needed some adjustments on my bespoke/vintage sport coats, he gave me his own opinions of how the jackets looked fine without the adjustments, or if the canvas would fall apart if he opened the jacket up to alter. He was right every. single. time. 2. Craftsmanship: OUTSTANDING! He's probably the only tailor whom I can trust with my sport coats/suits. In case you are not pleased with the outcome of the work, just ask him right away and he will redo at no charge until you're happy. 3. Pricing: reasonable. He's developed a set of prices accordingly to the jobs already. 4. Time and punctuality: Okay, I have to say he himself runs the entire shop so delays happen once in a while, I won't deny that. PROTIP: give him a call the day before if you really really need that piece to be done by the time promised. It's been well over 2 years since the last time he missed the deadline. 5. Parking: very limited in the front (2 spots), but there are more spots behind the shop which are reserved for Ruben's only. DO NOT park at the Nguyen's Kitchen next door because they will tow your car. read more

This tailor shop is amazing! I was referred to this place by a tailor shop down the street (won't mention any names). To be honest, I was a bit nervous because I needed patches sewn on my Jiu Jitsu gi that day and came into the shop less than an hour before closing. They were able to get all 3 patches sewn on my gi before they closed. Extremely nice people, if I could give 10 stars I would. I will recommend this place to all of my fellow BJJ athletes or anyone looking to get great quality work done in a pinch. Thank you so much for getting this done for me when you could have easily said that you're closing soon, like 5 tailor shops did before I arrived. This was the WORST tailoring job that I have EVER gotten done, and the WORST customer service that I have ever experienced anywhere. The dress was NOT READY BY WHEN IT WAS PROMISED. In fact, I had to call and check before coming in whether it was ready or not, and each time it was NOT READY. Finally, when it was ready, HE HAD TAKEN IT IN TOO MUCH, and ALSO SHORTENED IT TOO MUCH. There was also an area on the dress that just had a GAPING HOLE in it. Ruben tried to force the dress onto me by YANKING on the zipper up and down. After BREAKING the zipper, he tried to replace it with a standard zipper instead of a invisible zipper in a non-coordinating color. He wanted to use a white zipper, like the kind you would use on a hooded jacket or bag, instead of an invisible zipper on my pink, designer dress. He asked me to return later in the afternoon while he attempted repairs, and when I did, the dress was STILL NOT READY. Finally, when it was finished, the quality of the final product was SO POOR, I was BEYOND DISBELIEF when he wanted to CHARGE MORE than what was ORIGINALLY STATED. The dress looked like it had been through A LOT OF DAMAGE, considering that it had been taken in, and then taken out, and then having to have the zipper replaced. The hemming job looks completely UNPROFESSIONAL and AMATEUR. He wanted to charge an additional $18 for the DIRTY pink zipper he found laying around the store, that he used to replace my brand new zipper on a mint new dress that had never been worn previously. So, considering that he practically RUINED my $400 dress, was LATE on multiple occasions, BROKE the zipper, then wanted to CHARGE EXTRA to replace the one he broke, not to mention the TERRIBLE HEMMING job, FLYAWAY strings everywhere from not trimming them, I calmly asked him for a discount, to which HE BERATED ME, and said that if I paid $400 for that dress, then I was taken for a fool, and that it came with a bad zipper. Now mind you, the dress is from a one of a kind, premier bridal shop in down town Pasadena; which I had fully examined for defects before purchasing; and any decent tailor would have recognized the fabric that the dress was made out of was worth the amount paid. The list goes on and on: Ruben DID NOT save ALL the scrap material, as I had previously requested on several occasions, MISPLACED the hanger, and garment bag that I had brought in, OVERCHARGED, and BELITTLED me since the moment I walked in. I should have walked out right then, and taken my dress to a different tailor. Like a complete CRIMINAL, Ruben also collected payment from my husband, while I was in the changing room, so that he, Ruben, would be able to collect more money from my husband than the amount that was originally agreed upon. BOTTOM LINE: If you want a decent job done, and if you want to be treated like a human being, DO NOT bring your business here. RUBEN is UNTALENTED, UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, and essentially a CROOK. His business operates under a CASH ONLY POLICY, and I can only imagine why. The only items that I would recommended bringing here are articles of clothing that you want to pay a lot of money for and potentially have ruined. read more
