I live in Austin and regularly travel to Plano for business. This place is always on the tip of my tongue when someone asks where we should go for a meal and am completely amazed at how many of the locals are unaware of this gem in their own back yard. The food has depth, complexity, tons of flavor - and is absolutely outstanding. Order a couple of the appetizers - very much worth it. The service is excellent. The owners are attentive. They do not serve alcohol but don't let that stop you from going. I thought this was going to be a bit of a let down on my first visit as I typically like a good Thai beer with my dinner. This is my favorite spot to meet a friend for lunch or dinner. The decor is elegant, and the food is excellent. The woman who pours the tea and takes your order is sweet, and you're never rushed. And the food...so delicious. I've had the panang curry and pad kee mow. Both dishes were very tasty and fresh. I asked for 3.5 heat, and it was just right. After reading the other reviews, I am going to try the spicy fried rice when I head over there tonight. If you like Thai food, be sure to put this restaurant on your list. Based on reviews, we tried the duck rolls for appetizer ,we got 4 small stale crepe like wrapper with hardly any duck just bits of dried up something. The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew was really messed up. How can you mess this up.How did they get 4 star? The can't even do a Pad thai well. After waiting for sometime , everything was a disappointment . Superb Thai food. Personalized service. Only complaint is that the food seldom comes out all at once and party members have to wait while food gets cold if we want to eat together. Really good Thai food. I've only eaten here for lunch but each time was very good. i'd say easily above average. Pad Thai was standard Pad Thai. it's not exactly gourmet, but I'm a bread and baloney guy so I am pretty easily pleased. I've had all the appetizers that aren't seafood and all of them are good enough. None are outstanding. I would say don't bother with the Tom Kha. It's watery and slightly salty rather than sweet. Unfortunately, we didn't even get to try the food. Came in on Saturday right before 6 PM and were seated. Three tables around us that came in after we did received their drinks and gave their orders before we were asked. We sat there 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. This is just unacceptable. Decided to order take out based on raving reviews from many of my neighbors. Ordered the veggie spring rolls, and Massamun Curry w/ Tofu (mild). Hubby had Pad See Eaw w/ chicken (medium). It was FANTASTIC!! I have a new favorite! Will definitely order again. Have never dined in, so I'm reserving the 5th star for when we do. Would definitely recommend! We have now dined in a few times, and the service has been consistently amazing! Very friendly atmosphere, prompt service, love that it's BYOB, and during lunch your meal comes with a cup of their soup of the day! Overall, phenomenal food and dining experience! Lovely decor and amazing service! We were seated immediately by a very gracious and welcoming hostess, and immediately offered a choice of beverages. They noticed we had a tween and included the child in every conversation and made eye contact, something is which is never ever done in all the restaurants we've eaten at, either because they are used to misbehaving kids or the adults usually give all the orders without consulting the children.. Or for whatever reason! That consideration and thoughtfulness was so touching and makes for repeated customers, with these kind of business principles of catering to everyone! And the food - that was absolutely amazingly delicious and out the world! Probably one of the best Thai food we've ever eaten, and we've eaten Thai at tons of places! read more

My husband and I have been looking for a good Thai restaurant for a while... the issue is that my husband is allergic to fish and seafood, so we usually end up at a restaurant that is not very authentic. After looking at a lot of reviews we decided to try Ruang. It seems to be a family run business, a sweet little old lady came to take our order and we explained my husbands issues, and she gladly suggested a few items that he could eat, and one of which was the duck rolls. The duck rolls were like nothing I have had before, they are little pancakes with a roasted duck inside then drizzled with a brown sauce and they were delicious! My husband had a red curry and he said that it was amazing. I ordered Pad See Ew and it was amazing! I am still dreaming of their light and fluffy noodles. Definitely homemade. My wife and I are avid "foodies" and have added it to our rotation of favs. We have visited a half dozen times and tried the apps, soups, curries, noodle dishes (including Pad Thai), and Gai Grob (Thai Basil Chicken), which is spectacular! The flavors are phenomenal and the service is friendly and attentive. A calm and relaxing setting makes the dining experience that much more enjoyable. This place is amazing. We eat here several times a week and have enjoyed everything that we have tried. Mainly, we stick to Massaman curry, but the yellow (kee ree) curry was the original fave and the E2 (chicken and broccoli with garlic and black pepper) is the newest favorite, since trying it the other night. The owners are both rock stars! Moo (the wife) and her husband (the chef) are magicians with the top notch service and culinary creations. She is a major sweetheart too. If you are looking for authentic and flavorful Thai food, this joint will not disappoint. :) The only time we are disappointed is when they are closed on Sunday for a short window of time, LOL. I usually go to Jasmine Thai and wanted to try Ruang Thai. First thing which stuck me is their price. Every item on the menu on average is $2 to $4 more than other Thai restaurants. Service is pathetic at best. The old lady who takes the order rushes you, and is a snob. Lucky you, if you are white because she treats them with respect, unlucky if you are Asian because you are treated with disdain. Thankfully other servers in the restaurant are nice,friendly and polite. Now taste wise ,I ordered Corn Fritters and they cost $1.50 more than other Thai and on top of it they are soggy.I ordered a spicy fried rice and its so bland.It lacked spice, taste and was wet instead of being fluffy. I go to a Thai restaurant to eat spicy and tasty food. Spicy food doesn't mean adding some spicy sauce on the side and eating bland dish. There is a way to make authentic spicy food where spices are blended into the food while its being made. I have eaten at so many Thai joints and the taste just blows you away and they are cheaper as well. Ruang Thai is very far from calling itself a authentic Thai food joint. Last but not least, I ordered a soup and was very specific that I wanted it vegetarian and finally ended up with chicken pieces at the bottom. So be cautious if you are a vegetarian and want to visit Ruang Thai. Be wary of the old lady who takes your orders. Don't let her rush you,don't let her neglect you and be firm. You are paying to get good food and service. Few miles away there is Jasmine Thai, which is cheaper, tastier and friendlier service offered. I wish there are more Thai options available other than just Jasmine Thai. read more

I've had tons of Chinese food in my life but I've only had Thai a hand full of times. This was so much more flavorful and made with fresh ingredients. I went with two other friends and we ordered dumplings to begin with, they were so good that we knew the food about to come out was going to be amazing. For dinner we had Gai Wahn, Pad Thai, and Thai chicken fried rice. We weren't to adventurous but we did get to choose our heat levels and a 3 is perfect for some heat but not too much. The staff was very nice and we will be coming back for the food and the experience as many times as we can. The ginger lemongrass tea was great as well. read more
