So I live on the island on and off and have been to Roy's before with no issues, but today, I asked an older female barista what was in the espresso shake. She said "espresso" and looked at me like I was stupid. I tried to clarify by saying, "yes, but what else is in the shake?" (Meaning, clearly what are the other ingredients?) She replied, with increasing hostility, "it's an espresso shake." I was really giving this a go because I'm allergic to an ingredient that is sometimes in blended coffee drinks, so I said, "can you explain to me what that means? What the ingredients are?" To which she told me "espresso is coffee"..... thanks so much. Finally, she told me that it is blended with milk and ice cream, which duh, is all I wanted to know, but she did it while yelling and acting like an actual psychopath. I told her she was being a *bad name* (I shouldn't have, I have been a weary barista for many years of my life but this was truly unreal behavior). This lovely exchange was finished by this very stable, intelligent woman saying, "Fuck you, you dirty-ass bitch!" This is a new nickname for me! Roy, if you're reading this, your Tuesday 11 a.m. barista (not the younger one) should not be let out of the ward, let alone be given a job in customer service. read more

Be aware when choosing Roy's coffee shop that behind the counter can be some awful unkind customer service. Don't interrupt or ask a question before it's your turn or you might get screemed at to wait your turn. It happened to me at the first window then she slammed the window shut!!! read more

Would give ZERO STARS if that was an option. Rude service! We approached the main window, and a women spoke to us from the side window. We ordered three of our six drinks, and she disappeared. When we pulled up to the main window we said that we had three more drinks to order. "You've already ordered a lot!" After a few minutes, she asked what else. "A chocolate shake." "In the future order all shakes at the same time." "We tried! Do you have drip coffee?" "It's not on the menu!" "Forget it. We will pay for the four drinks. We are done." We stopped here on a Saturday, while we waited to take the ferry over to Orca's Island. The wait was quick. The ladies were nice and did a wonderful job. We both that Chai Latte's. I'm amazed that so many people have almond and coconut milk for us lactose people. It's such a small place and they have a drive-thru which is impressive. read more

ROY'S NEEDS BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! they have pretty good coffee and food, which in my opinion is overpriced. They act as if serving you is a chore and they do it with attitudes. When i asked for just a slight change for my coffee order, the girl behind the counter rolled her eyes. When i got my order there was a misunderstanding so i went to ask if they could change it and they were rude and argued with me that it was my fault. If a business wants to succeed i would say customer service is one of the most important things. Avoid. In the town of Friday Harbor their is unfortunately a lack of breakfast options worth your time. Roy's Drive'Thru turns out to be the worst of the bunch. My girlfriend and I visited today to try them out. While out front looking at the menu, the lady inside was dealing with one car. She kept saying out to us please wait, hold on one sec, ect. We kept saying that is fine, as we were still looking at the menu. I didn't even know what I wanted yet. She finally dealt with the one customer in the driver-thru and told then next car to wait and it would be just a second. The lady in the car said no problem, that it was Friday Harbor and she is in no rush. The lady inside replied, I know, I wish someone would tell that to the people out front. I am thinking, we are the people out front. It is my girlfriend and I and one other dude hanging out in a seat talking to his friend. No one was in a rush, far from it. I found it very rude and I didn't get were that idea came from. We ordered a chai tea latte and two breakfast sandwiches, one unlimited and one with pepperjack and sausage. First, thing we noticed is that they use a powder to make the chai tea latte. Just open a pouch and stir it into some hot water and call it a chai latte. Do not order this, or you will be disappointed. After a small wait we got our sandwiches, and my pepperjack with sausage is actually just an everything bagel and nothing else. I am thinking I waited all that time for this? I walk back up and before I an even say anything the lady and her teenage employee are just laughing. They are like is your sandwich missing something? I just handed it to her and didn't say a word. I got no apology that they sent my order to the lady in the car. No apology for them not being able to handle two customers on a slow day. I just get to employees competing for worst employee of the month awards, laughing about it. If you were to have walked up to place an order in at that moment you would have that I told the best joke to these two, except the joke is Roy's Drive thru. Aside from this, the sandwich is pathetic. Even if they had had an once of professionalism, the sandwich would have still fell on it's microwaved face. I have attached a picture of the sandwich with its non-melted cheese and sad circular egg disc that comes from the freezer, to the microwave, to your sandwich. Gross! Save yourself the $4 for this sandwich and head over to that sweet retreat place. Same cost and you will get real egg, that is cooked, with potato, choice of meat and can get it on a soft croissant. read more

Went here while waiting for the ferry, as I was craving a Chai. Waited a few minutes and then they helped us. They made the chai with powder, so definitely not the fanciest chai ever, but it was yummy and satisfied my craving! My mom got the hot chocolate and also liked it. read more

I actually came here to retrieve a lost id, and decided to order a latte while I was there. My kids had hot cocoas. First- the customer service is very pleasant. In fact, I remember thinking as I drove off, "Wow. Those girls really set my mood for the day!". They greet their customers with a warm smile and their high morale really shows in their product. Second- Admittedly, there are a few places to get good coffee in this town, but I don't know if it was the pleasantry as an added bonus, or that they are amazing at their craft - probably both- the triple caramel latte they made for me was freaking fabulous! Kylie and her partner in crime (sorry girl! I'll get your name the next time) know what they're doing. Even the cocoas were on point. Usually my kids drink a few sips then either spill the rest or just leave it. When I got them out of the car, every last drop was gone. I enco anyone who reads this review to give Roy's a try. Service was unacceptable. It came with recommendation from the clerk @ the hotel where we stayed. We ordered iced lattes and it took well over 15 minutes to get our order. It was busy but not more than would be typical. It might not be a smart option if you're in a hurry to catch the ferry. And when we got our drinks, no apologies for the long wait. read more

The best milkshakes in the San Juan Islands. My boyfriend and I love the mocha-hazelnut ones. The Hot Dogs are great also but be sure to ask that they do not over-use the condiments. Service isn't the fastest although very friendly read more

We ordered here, mainly because they had a brand of chai I wasn't allergic too and the locals employees in town said they were awesome. I didn't read that all chai's made were dirty chai's. My bad, not a coffee drinker. But gave it to my husband as it was so hot he was glad to have two drinks. They offered to make it on the house, but it was my mistake and they were so friendly I said no, we would pay. Not sure they use Big Train like I messaged them earlier or it was a different brand though. Some others on here complaining about powdered chai. This is only two of many coffee shops on the island that use quality chai and not cheap disgusting Oregon Chai. Trust me I messaged every coffee shop on the island, as I'm allergic to most brands and I don't drink coffee. Oregon is the cheapest chai you can buy and they just pour it in a cup of ice or heat it up. You can buy it for $4 at the grocery store and get almost 4 full servings out of it, if not more if it's not, so the markup is unbelievable. That's why many coffee shops choose this cheap stuff. read more
