I've never had a bad donut here. But then again, I've always come around 5:30 am when picking up donuts for my coworkers, so the donuts are basically fresh out of the oven. $9 gets you a dozen, not even a baker's dozen. A little pricey compared to other places, but definitely cheaper than a lot of others too. In my experience, the maple glazed and chocolate glaze donuts are outstanding, and the cinnamon crumb one is good too. That's the one that gets fought over for at work. I'm not a big fan of jelly donuts, but theirs is pretty good too. I've had their apple fritters and they aren't bad either. They sell lotto tickets here too. read more

I would love to be reviewing Royal's donuts or service or pricing, but despite the "open" sign's neon blazing at 11:20 p.m., the shackles on the doors prevented me and my compatriots from enjoying the sugary baked goodness that was taunting us from inside the display case, ensconced within the locked shop. Was Yelp wrong about Royal Donuts being open until midnight? Did someone have an emergency and forgot to turn off the open sign when they locked up? Will we ever know?? I'm not a donut fanatic so I can't say whether their donuts are superb or not, but I can say I wasn't grossed out by it. I got the Apple fritter and it was yummy. The place looks semi well-kept, at least I didn't see any critters crawling around. Parking in the plaza is plentiful. i'm more of a glazed twist kinda guy, so i haven't had a real urge to try everything they have. but they do have a very wide selection with reasonable prices. but i'm no donut expert. i just want them fresh and this place does a good job of that. literally Mom and Pop run all day long, they get up pre-dawn and open at like 4am. long lines in the mornings, but mom and pop do a good job of working as fast as they can while being friendly. i love the breakfast croissants. read more

Another reason to love Garvanza! Royal Donuts serves regular ol' donuts, but is scrupulous about using fresh, high quality ingredients. Then end product are donuts and pastries that are just perfect. The owners are super cheerful and funny, as well. read more

Great donuts! Ok, had to breakdown and get my daughter and me a donut with our coffee. We went looking for a good old neighborhood donut shop, we went to Royal Donuts in Pasadena. She got a cream filled, chocolate glazed donut...claims it was better that ANY donut she ever had....not sure about that, perhaps the first donut in many months. I got my favorite, a cake donut with white icing and peanuts...very good. This is our "go to" donut shop...try it! Great service, happy fellow who actually makes the donuts. read more

Royal Donuts is great. I've been to most of the donut shops in and around my city and Royal Donuts has the most delicious donuts by far.

Ordered the donut holes and a maple bar. They tasted fine and priced ok ($0.70 for the donut and $1.50 for the donut holes). Not sure what people are raving about. read more

Caution! Only takes cash. Has an ATM in the lobby. Low quality donuts, for low cost. Per son behind the counter was not friendly or helpful. Ordered a crumb donut, and it was dry and tasted like some ingredients were missing. Good coffee but uses non-dairy creamer. I just moved to the South Pasadena area from San Diego, and happened to find myself with a wine bottle and no food at my place after a long day at work. Winchell's is right down the street but the yelp reviews were not so bueno so I decided to trek it out to this place and I have to say these are some of the yummiest donuts i've had. It comes pretty dang close to Royal Donuts back in Burlingame, CA and to this other donut place I would go to down the street from my friend's place in Hillcrest. Felt kinda bad for the woman working cause it was all guys talking in spanish and her (she's asian and I don't believe she speaks spanish-- you never know though) so i tipped her a good amount and boy was that tip worth it! read more
