Went to Royal buffet on Saturday for lunch. The buffet was large and clean. There were many many choices of dishes, and my big regret was that I couldn't taste them all. My favorite was the string beans they were the best I have ever had at any buffet I was very happy to see spring rolls and egg rolls The buffet dishes were filled regularly, which was good because the restaurant was very busy The service was very good and our dishes were removed very fast This is the only buffet I went to that had soft ice cream service. Except for the delicious chocolate chip cookies the other desserts were the usual you find at a Chinese buffet. We will return someday read more

Sooo guess who is hungry and rattled off ten different places to go that were all over the spectrum.. yup you guessed it..my brother. My turn to drive so off I went with no direction and a hangry passenger.. soooo here we are. The place was clean when we walked in which is imortant. My rating was based on other buffets in the area and the consistency in quality. I started with my favorite appetizers.. The mini clams are covered in a rich soy flavored sauce and come right out the shell with chop-sticks. I then make my specialty hot n' sour soup.. which I add a wonton (from the wonton soup) and then take the fried shrimp and add them (after I take the shell off) . The mini egg roll was hot and fresh. The wings were juicy and crispy. The dumplings are delicious and I love to put them in a bowl with their dipping sauce so I can dunk things in the extra sauce (like my egg roll). The ribs on the bone were tender with and the basted-on bbq sauce was bursting with flavor. The next round was from the hibachi grill. Parking was quick and easy with plenty of spaces. We walked in and the place was busy even though it was just 4 pm. It was a small buffet with limited options. There were some seafood options but mainly non-meat options available. Instead of coconut shrimp, they had coconut chicken. The oysters were not refilled very often and what was left was limited. The food was okay. Nothing stellar that stood out but it was decent enough to eat. Our plates were cleared often though and I appreciated that. The utensils were sometimes dirty but most were clean. Food is good but idk if it's just a coincidence but both times I went I was always sitting near a group of ghetto people who treat the place like it's their home. I mean can't hold ghetto guests against them but what I don't like is that the waiters don't do anything about in regards to noise or the blocking of paths. Both times it was hard getting to my seat. Their food is indescribably delicious. Fresh, well prepared, delectable. I love their soups, truly the best in Cranston area. They even have sushi and spareribs with bones after 4:00 pm. Vegetables are always fresh. Many styles of serving. Reasonably priced with 10% senior discount. American dishes also provided. The fish is fresh and also the seafood salad chunky and properly seasoned. I highly recommend this restaurant. Its a treat that never disappoints. i think an overall 2.8 rating is a bit harsh. this place is solidly a 3.5. booths, plates, and utensils were clean and constantly being cleaned while we were there. the servers were cheerful even around 9pm on a saturday night. the hibachi was good, i enjoyed it at this casual, low-key option. we ended up here because saturday nights were full in many places and we had not eaten in like 9 hours from the busy day we had and didn't want to wait anywhere. the sushi was good, like a better version of your local grocery store sushi. the fish options around were good like the fried shrimp, steamed clams, and the crab rangoons. i also got seaweed salad and squid salad which was nice. the pineapples were sweet and ripe, and not the canned kind. i had some soft serve ice cream for dessert. a buffet is something i haven't had in years since i was a kid and they were every family's stop. so it was nice nostalgia. and i wont crave it often but if i did, i would return here. read more

Food is amazing! but it can be a bit messy as some kids don't notice each individual utensil for each food and transfer one food to another so watch out about that although there aren't many kids. The staff are very talented, our server got our drinks faster than you can say jiffy. She also grabbed almost 6 plates stacked on her whole arm with a container in the other hand! When you walk in it may seem a bit chaotic but the actual restaurant is pretty nice and calming, they have ice cream! read more

I'll preemptively mention that I really don't care for buffets and prefer to order off of a menu. I like having fresh food without a lot of people breathing on it. That being said, if you have a family with varying tastes, a buffet is usually the way to go so that everyone is satisfied. This particular place has a lot of variety, and the dining room is relatively clean. The prices are a little high, but everything is expensive right now. It was a bit of a sticker shock, though, when I saw the bill. I recommend going during busier times, that way you know the food is fresh. Some things I would absolutely not touch because of the possibility of getting sick from sitting out for a while, but I will highlight the green beans that were super delicious and the fried shrimp was decent. The coconut chicken tasted and looked undercooked, which turned my stomach a bit. Other dishes that I've tried like the general chicken or the noodles were all just generically OK, but nothing to write home about. I still love it here and haven't gotten sick in years...too bad that I'm in Wakefield now so can't go so often - maybe 2-3x/year. I badly want their duck sauce recipe!!! The waitstaff is still weird, but the food hasn't changed much. As with everything, the cost has gone up, but it's worth it for my friends and me. I hope they never close - patronize local businesses! There aren't many Chinese buffets left...recently a friend told me Royal had closed and I was really down for a couple of weeks, but I just called them today and they haven't closed. Better than the average buffet. Lots of negative reviews, but I've been a dozen times, and it's ready not that bad. They have the cleanest sushi bar of any buffet I go to. It has an attendant and it is well done. I like the fact that it has seaweed salad too, instead of spiralized zucchini flavored like seaweed salad! The grill has steak, probably strip loin. It's small, and thin, but that's an item that you dont usually see anymore. The buffet itself has salt and pepper shrimp! They also have pot roast, Mongolian beef, chicken teriyaki, grilled chicken, boneless spare ribs... if they had crab legs, I could cry. There are some odd things like chicken fingers in mayonnaise I think I'll pass on. Stuffed clams and shrimp covered with ground pork... baby back ribs that look and taste boiled... no! Still, plenty to like. I would speak a bit to ambiance. The parking lot has security. I've seen multiple cars doing burn outside in the lot. There's no shortage if yelling and screaming and the pungent aroma of weed floats across the parking lot and restaurant. It seems a lot of people are working on their appetites before going in! Pretty decent for this type of buffet. Good selection and there is a hibachi grill and sushi also included. They get a good crowd coming into this establishment so the dishes Jeeps getting refreshed. You get what you pay for, lunch is alright and the dinner is better also more expensive, they give you the check and walk away they don't hover over you, the seating arrangement is weird sometimes they seat you in the open in chairs instead of a booth, utensils have water marks on them and it makes it look dirty. The only good thing that I will say is that the service was quick & the food was decently fresh [ it was a Saturday night so it was busy ]. My issue was the long black hair that I found in my 3 year olds salad. On top of that, as I start eating my rice I notice I'm chewing something crunchy. If you happen to look through my reviews, you'll see that I will occasionally frequent buffets. My expectation is decent food and variety at a decent price. Royal Buffet's food is ok and the variety is decent as well. They have some varieties of sushi, they have the hibachi station and the normal buffet options. The one thing that sets them apart from other Chinese buffets is also their downfall. Many people like to go there for the crab legs. The crab legs are good but they bring it out slowly and your only hope of getting some is to wait at the buffet station for the delivery. If not, you'll be looking at an empty pan more times than not. If you choose to wait, the people in front of the line will load their plate with no consideration for the others waiting and I've even seen people snatch crab legs from other peoples tongs. It makes the experience not worth it and without the crab legs, they are average at best. In all, the service isn't bad and the food is average, but if you're expecting something better than average, there are better places you can go to IMO. read more

As strong as my distaste is for the elusive buffet, this is like, the most booty shakin, heart valve replacin, heart burn inducin Chinese buffet I've ever been to. Unlike the others, Royal is a mixed bag fusion of Latin and Americanized Asian dishes, which basically equals, yum-o. The food is consistently delicious, plentiful and always, always fresh. "A buffet? Fresh?" you wonder. Yup. Even if the pan is stacked high, if it's been more than about 45 minutes, it gets emptied and immediately replaced with a fresh batch. I won't deny that this is ultimately wasteful, but I also won't deny that the idea of any food being left out in a steam pan for more than an hour for little hands to grab is completely sketchy and a little gross (hello, bacteria?). This is primarily why I don't touch buffet type places to begin with. However Royal, is the exception. Their selection of food is also totally different from the many buffets I've been dragged to: sure they have the usual chicken with broccoli & co, but aside from the difference of spices and flavours, they also have an array of other tastes such as fried plantains, chopped steak with pepper, collard greens and rice and beans plus a sushi bar included at no extra cost. The only downside to this fab restaurant, is the location. At any given time the dining area is literally packed to the brim with screaming children, yelling tweens and big chicks with stretch pants. I've found the only possible way to avoid this is to show up for an early lunch when they open Sunday morning (11 am) while everyone is still either at church or chowing down breakfast at the iHop. Baby mamas aside, this joint is hot, hot, hot. Best Chinese buffet hands down for your bucks. read more

Okay, so the food is good like the reviews say the coconut chicken is one of a kind and the sushi is tasty. The freshness of the seafood is a little questionable, especially if you're going to eat raw things like the clams and shrimp. The service is low to none all they do is serve drinks and take your plates but some people would say that's perfect service for a buffet. This place is pretty scary to go to especially during busy times (dinner and weekends) the people are loud and obnoxious, it brought back high school cafeteria memories. The reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars is because I'm practically convinced that these waitresses don't get paid much. I do not encourage anyone to visit an establishment where people are being paid very low. After I left a hefty tip on the credit card slip the waitress continued to ask me for a tip. Now that was not only embarrassing for me as a customer but I also felt really bad because I only had my credit card on me. I am convinced the owners withhold credit card tips from the waitresses. I've eaten at Royal Buffet dozens of times. Some of the food is good, some is not so good. It's a wonderful restaurant if you stick to the good stuff. The strong point is the American-style Chinese food. If you like egg rolls, spare ribs, sweet and sour chicken, egg foo yung, and that sort of thing, this place is great. it's a much better deal, especially with children, than going to a regular hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant. On the other hand, when the menu items range into the more exotic, things do not go well. The dim sum is consistently overcooked, but it's not awful. The sushi is edible but largely tasteless, and in the worst case has the consistency of pencil erasers, but this is about average for buffet sushi. Fresh fruits, including melons, pears, and pineapples, are pretty good although they obviously came out of a can. Desserts are a strength, with the usual buffet supply of cookies and pastries augmented by actual slices of cakes and pies in a refrigerated self-serve case and two soft-serve ice cream machines, one with chocolate and vanilla and the other with strawberry and vanilla. The staff are always very courteous and attentive, certainly more polite than many of the customers. At certain times, it is common for very young children to be running amok, bumping into people and things with wild abandon, all under the oblivious eyes of their parents. I can't blame the restaurant for this, and they do have signs conspicuously warning that children must be accompanied by an adult, but customers often ignore this. Just came here to grab lunch and was starving. Price was fair -- 2 adults + 1 child + 3 drinks = around $30. Service was fine. Food was decent, but it took awhile for new trays to come out so most of it was just sitting there kind of cold. The chicken wings were baby sized -- literally the size of an infant finger which kind of made me feel uneasy but it was still good. The pork shumai they have is just listed as " dim sum " which seemed odd considering there are other dim sum dishes beside it like steamed buns. They also have other typical buffet options such as a salad bar, dessert section (soft serve ice cream, little desserts, fruit) hibachi, and a sushi section. I feel like this buffet is a good quick bite to eat for kids, because many of the options are finger and easy to eat foods that kids will enjoy. Otherwise, I would go somewhere else if you're expecting more than that. The music was also an interesting mix to say the least-- they played Jpop, American music, then Kpop. Royal buffet has amazing service and the venue is beautiful but it's a little cramped when you're walking down the aisle to get your food but I'm really just nitpicking because the food was fantastic the service was on point and the hibachi grill section was amazing to see them at work. Each employee knew what they were doing like pros they flipped the food in air and put it back down in a crazy way it was amazing sight to see. Good prices though the beer is a little pricey. Went on a Sunday after church. Not a bad wait. I don't typically do buffets at all ( got bullied by my kids) But the food was fresh and hot and seemed sanitary. The crab ran good and the chicken teriyaki was probably the best for me. The do have a variety of food both. Asian and Americam fare including a salad bar. Not bad for the price. This was definitely not my first time here, but first time I'll be leaving a review about it. The staff seems pretty nice, quiet, but nice. As for the food, their wide range of selections are a sight to see. So many different options, and it seems like everything is hot, fresh, and smells good. If I had to rate the food, I'd rate it a 75 out of 100. Not bad, but not great. The taste definitely did not live up to the looks and the smells. I made my first plate with white rice, coconut chicken, Chinese pork, shrimp pasta, and crab macaroni. Everything was okay, but it seemed super greasy.... It was one of those greasy's where after you eat you feel as if you're going to throw up. I tried to get another dish and picked up some Fried Chicken wings, and crab Rangoon. Two staples in Chinese food. The Fried chicken, although looked great, smelled great, and was hot, was a bust. It wasn't good at all. The crab Rangoon had way too much cream cheese for comfort; I couldn't get past the first bite. I can't say I won't come back, because I will. Overall decent Chinese buffet with large selection and a few stand-out dishes. The interior is clean and there is a large number of staff so you never wait too long for anything and finished plates are picked up quickly. There are several stations for all kinds of hot food, sushi, and dessert. Many entree dishes are heavy on sauce or salty (or both), or dried out from sitting too long (egg tarts) and this is the main reason I can't give a higher rating. My favorite dishes were General Tso's chicken, coconut chicken, mushroom/green pepper/onion dish, sliced beef from the beef with broccoli (though the broccoli was lathered in brown sauce), and the fried shrimp. The dumplings were ok but some area of the skin (in the two that I tried) was really dry. I didn't try everything and there are plenty of options so I would give it a try if you're in the area and enjoy buffets. Price was $10.95 per person for lunch. read more
