Chicken Marsala and pasta with meatballs
Alicia Q.

This is honestly one of the worst meals I've ever had in my life. I'm not one to complain much but these reviews do not do the dining at this restaurant any justice. We ordered the chicken Marsala and the pasta with filet mignon meatballs. The chicken Marsala just tasted like boiled chicken, the veggies and potato reminded me of school lunch from high school. The pasta tasted like it was from a can, and the meatballs were actually pretty decent. On top of the horrible meal, the price is simply outrageous. I wouldn't eat this food if I was starving and it were free.

Crab cakes

Food was bad bland no taste and just left a lot to wish for and it took them like an hour to bring out the food but that's not even the worst part was THE SERVICE OMG I HAVE NEVER EVER EVER felt so discriminated against my partner and I (people of color) came in at about 10 pm when we walked into the restaurant there was no acknowledgment that we were even in the restaurant. We walked in and stared at the bartender and at the people run the restaurant and they stared back not offering a seat or anything kinda just wondering why we were even there. There is no POC in this restaurant and it is extremely uncomfortable for us they took a while to even acknowledge us or even try to seat us. Tho was the worst restaurant I have ever been too definitely do not go to this place is you are a person of color because you will 100% be discriminated against and it seems that your money is not worth the same as a white person who were greeting treated amazing by the staff and bartender.

I found this place on Google after a late yoga class nearby and it's honestly a hidden gem. . Roy is a local Italian bistro that is open daily from 6 PM to midnight. When all the other venues are closing up for dinner service, they are just getting started. They have the cutest handwritten menu complete with appetizers, starters, a full bar, entrées and dessert. . I cannot rave about the space enough with all the cool artwork from local, late and great Santa Barbara artist Ken Nack and vintage design pieces. My friend & I both ordered from the starter menu. She had the huge veggie plate and I had the fish and chips, which was actually made with salmon that night, but surprisingly did not disappoint. Portions are fairly big so don't let your eyes fool your stomach. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the presentation was very beautiful. The chef Roy himself even came to the table to greet us and Morgan, who was the only server in the restaurant was doing a kick ass job taking care of everybody as the night picked up. . We're suckers for Italian food, so I have nothing but good things to say. Go try them out for yourself if you're in the downtown Santa Barbara area!

The food was wonderful here. The service was spectacular. Our waitress was very nice and Roy even came out to fill our water glasses. The ambiance inside is like an art gallery. I have been coming here for years. Their soups and salads are also very good. Definitely a place to have a nice dinner or to celebrate a special day. The live band was great. They played a lot of Led Zeppelin and Tom Petty.

We called Roys to place a Togo order today 4/8/2020, we were politely greeted by the woman working and answering the phone. Our food was as always, COOKED TO PERFECTION. There is a deal going on today where each entree was $20.00! What a steal considering this chef knows what he's doing in the kitchen! I ordered the New York Steak it came with soup, salad, potato cakes, veggies and bread. My girlfriend ordered the Seafood Pasta which also came with soup and a side salad. And of course... we got their famous bread! During a time like this, us locals are very thankful and grateful that Roy's is still open and feeding the community. Thank you Roy for always working hard and putting your love and soul into your entrees. We will be back! -Breana and Carissa

First off, a huge thank you to the hostess last night who got us in half an hour early. We happened…read moreto be in the area early, checked in and she was able to get us a table, despite how busy it was. I even saw her bussing and setting up tables for the incoming parties. Wish I got her name but she was the super sweet blonde with the two braids in her hair. This place seemed to be the hottest ticket in town. It stayed busy ALL night and for good reason-the friendly service and the delicious food. Started with 3 of their super fresh west coast oysters. Loved the pink peppercorn mignonette it came with. Loved the crunch and flavors and the sweet oysters. The wedge salad was probs the best I've had-pork belly lardons, smoked blue cheese, spicy pecans and an herby vinaigrette. 3 mini heads of lettuce was perfect. Cornbread is a must-try. Crisp exterior and hot, soft, corn mealy goodness inside, perfect touch of sweetness from the wildflower honey and a bit of heat. The Brussels sprouts had so much umami from the fish sauce and crunch from the crispy rice and sesame seeds. Another must-order. I know we're in Santa Barbara and should be eating seafood but their Jidori Fried Chicken with the house pickled veggies and the duck leg confit were outstanding. Seriously not one bad dish tonight. Def bookmark this spot and make resy's early (nothing between 5pm and 8:30pm on a busy Friday night), and a super central location with lots of wine bars and breweries nearby.

The lighting was vibrant while still blending beautifully with the overall aesthetic. The staff was also super attentive, constantly clearing plates and refilling my water without me even having to ask. I really loved the atmosphere here and would definitely come back! Brussels Sprouts: This was SO good! I'm usually not a fan of Brussels sprouts, but I couldn't stop eating these. The smoky flavor and richness made this one of my favorite dishes of the night. Definitely a standout! Tomato Sourdough Mozzarella Appetizer: This was decent. The tomato, sourdough, and mozzarella complemented each other nicely. My only complaint is that I wish the sourdough had been served on the side rather than mixed in with everything else. Buttermilk Jidori Chicken: Unfortunately, this was a miss for me. The chicken itself didn't have much flavor, and the breading kept falling off instead of sticking to the chicken properly. Definitely not my favorite dish of the night. Steak: Pretty decent! Nothing extraordinary, but it hit the spot. I believe it was a filet mignon served with a mustard sauce, though I could be mistaken. Creamy Pasta: This was my co-star of the night alongside the Brussels sprouts! The creamy sauce had so much flavor, and everything worked together beautifully. I just wish I had gotten the name of the dish because I would love to order it again. It was made with long pasta noodles, and I honestly could have eaten more! Overall, I loved the ambiance, attentive service, and a few standout dishes. The Brussels sprouts and creamy pasta alone made a great impression on me. I'd definitely come back to explore more of the menu!

The front door was open, but I didn't notice any fans, and I don't believe there is air conditioning. My date was sweating, and I was feeling quite warm as well. We also didn't have any ice in our water, which would have been especially nice given the temperature. Our waiter was pleasant and friendly, although the service didn't feel particularly memorable or exceptional. I was also a little surprised that bread and butter cost extra if you'd like them before your main course. Overall, I want to thank the chef for preparing such delicious food. I would definitely return if I needed a last-minute booking.

It seemed like they really enjoy what they do. We never needed to ask for water because they made sure our cups were always full. PLUS they did a sing along with all the customers. It seems like one of those last remaining places that a kid would go to and then remember it fondly in the future. And the food was really good! Except I ordered some kind of chicken dish with a garlic and wine "sauce" that I do not recommend. I forgot the name of it, but later when i asked what was in it the server said it was a "holindase Cajun sauce". The ambience was lively, the service staff were warm, and the food was amazing. One of my favorite things they offered as starters were their assortment of mini muffins (banana nut, rosemary, cheese etc). They were so good! The staff was nice enough to give me some to take home at the end of our meal. As we were enjoying the muffins, there was point in the evening where the staff all came together and sang "Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. It felt special and was nice hearing everyone sing along. We eventually ordered a jambalaya pasta dish and fish with vegetables dish. Needless to say, the pasta was out of this world. It was creamy, savory, and perfectly balanced in flavor. I'd come back just for that pasta dish alone, and that says a lot as I am not a huge pasta lover. Since it was my birthday, they surprised me with an ice cream dessert with chocolate writing on the plate. I was most impressed with the quality of chocolate they used for the writing. It was not Hershey's syrup one would assume, they went an extra step and used high quality thick chocolate that they melted to write my birthday greeting in cursive. Thankfully my name is long so I could eat more chocolate lol. By the end of the meal, I left the Palace with a feeling of nostalgia and mild sadness because I had to leave. That's when I knew I experienced something special. I can't wait to go back!

My date, a steak professional and strict carnivore, rated it "good." I, on the other hand, thought it was super delicious! The booth seating was comfortable, too. Fortunately, the total was about the same as what our steak dinner would have cost, so I didn't realize there was a mistake until I got home. That's when things got a little frustrating. I tried calling the restaurant several times to correct the error, but no one ever picked up. By late morning the next day, I finally got through, and a woman told me the manager would call me at noon to help sort things out. Unfortunately, noon came and went, and I never heard from him. I'm curious whether my message actually got through and whether the manager will eventually call me.
