Six days ago, I stopped in at Rowan to get a second piercing in my right ear lobe. I picked a small diamond stud from their piercing display, made of sterling silver and plated with 14K gold. The piercing was quick and easy. Within 24 hours, however, my ear doubled in size. It was red and swollen, leading to swelling in my lymph nodes. Less than 48 hours later, I returned to Rowan, and they recommended I take out the piercing. It was difficult to remove due to the swelling. They gave me a refund and told me that the swelling would "go down on its own." But it didn't. I learned after quickly researching online that sterling silver and gold-plated materials are the *opposite* of what you should use when piercing because they lead to such a high rate of infection (one medical website: "We NEVER recommend wearing gold plated, gold filled, gold vermeil, sterling silver or stainless steel during the first year of a piercing"). The next day I wound up going to urgent care due to my ear and I now have to be on 10 days of antibiotics, both oral and topical, to reduce the swelling and remove the infection. I would not recommend anyone get pierced at Rowan. At least not until they have updated all of their piercing materials to be completely safe. read more

I am the last person in the world to write reviews but I do have something to say. Rowan I have e-mailed you guys and I still cannot get a hold of an actual person over the phone, instead I just get these "nurses" that reply to me over email without even hearing or listening what I have to say and giving me the run around. I got my ear lobes pierced at Target back in August of last year but then had one re- pierced due to the fact that the nurse made it uneven after piercing it. Then from that point on I have had nothing but issues with the piercing. I was given wrong information from Rowan which led to an ear infection. it was only until AFTER the infection that I was informed that earlobes take a full year to heal. I was in severe pain for a few days and it would bleed whenever I try to change it or even if I slept wrong (even though i was cleaning it per their "instructions" everyday). After some time it did get better, but since then I have had days where whenever I have tried to change a piercing it would partially close, therefore the piercing would not go thru. This morning I just gave up altogether. I tried to reaching out through email again asking for a refund or partial refund but haven't gotten a response. I tried calling your guy's phone number but it says that your voicemail is full. What type of business are you guys running here? To whoever is reading this, do yourself a favor and actually go to a legit piercing place or a tattoo parlor who actually knows what they are doing. You will save yourself time and money (and pain!) . Update: they called back and was no help at all whatsoever. I can't tell if they use guns or not but if they do something is wrong. The idea of using registered nurses is a good idea until you realize that the vast majority of nurses really have no idea what best piercing practices are. I was hesitant about posting this review but piercing guns are terrible and their use should be banned as they cause real harm. For me the whole experience was very mediocre. I went for the sole purpose that the person piercing is supposed to be a certified nurse (how can one tell?) I felt somewhat rushed like pick you earring now let's pierce her ears and get you out. I'd have to say the nurse was more detail oriented and made sure my the piercing was going to be balanced on both ears. I went in with a group of 4 girls, we all ended up getting piercings. The environment was bright and friendly. Kevin was amazing and accommodating. My piercer was fast and skilled, i'm sad I didn't catch her name but she had short straight blond hair. I got my helix done and I felt barley any pain, she also recommended that I go for a different earring than the one I picked out, she was right! They use guns and call it something else. I would trust a professional piercer who does piercings all day instead of a registered nurse honestly. The nurse was hesitant and it seemed like she wasn't sure what she was doing. That did not make me feel confident at all. I have a piercing who pierced me with a needle and it had no issues healing. My piercings from Rowan had a lot of issues because it was done with a gun. That fancy gun they use shatters your cartilage. If they don't want people to be upset about that mechanism they use, they should just pierce by hand with a needle like several reputable places do. They talk about all this plastic surgeon stuff but again, they don't do piercings all day do they? They don't. I would go to an actual piercer next time to get a properly done piercing and they'll stylize your ears for you. read more

The nurse was very friendly and helpful! The lady at the front taking payments, however, was pretty rude & seemed annoyed. When checking out, she stared into my soul while asking me to tip, so I felt forced... even though I think $100 to get one set of piercings is PLENTY. The experience overall was okay, but it's extremely pricey for what it is (EACH stud is $20+ plus $55 to get them pierced)... was expecting something like a tattoo shop, not a piercing gun. As a first time mom, and a pandemic on top of that, I was nervous about getting my little ones ear pierced. I researched places for days, and finally settled on this place after reading reviews and checking their website. I am SO glad I went here. Booking was easy, staff was amazing! Well trained, patient (even with an upset baby), answered all of my questions, and most of all they are very sanitary and safe. The place is small so appointments are spaced out, and you don't feel rushed. They even provide follow up care advice and have a 24 hour nurse service should anything happen. All went great, and fast! They also have a great selection on earrings. Price was also very reasonable. The girl at the front was very dismissive of our concerns and even when we asked to help guide us with the piercing process, she was very dismissive. It felt like she would rather us pick up the pace choosing earrings, although for some this may be a nerve wracking experience. As for the overpriced piercings, the prices for cleansing solution and such were immediately added on to our bill with no mention or transparency about them. Wouldn't recommend. The piercing equipment is all single-use and was opened in front of me, so I feel very safe that everything was sterile. I just left the studio and thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. The nurse let me know exactly what to expect and even gave me numbing cream because I was nervous. I was happy that they allowed people to come in with you for moral support, because many places (like doctor's offices) do not allow you to bring someone in that is not having the procedure nowadays due to COVID. I was so glad to have my bf there holding my hand! The piercing itself took a second and it hardly hurt at all. I have a very low pain threshold and my other piercings were done at either tattoo studios or Claire's using piercing guns which are extremely painful and can damage your ear. At Rowan they use a needle which felt so different and my lobe is barely red and is not throbbing at all. The reason for removing a star was because of the confusion coming in for my appt. I saw people waiting outside even though I was on time for my appt and asked them if they were waiting for their appt and they said they were, however, nobody instructed us to wait outside while other customers were getting pierced and the girl at the desk did not acknowledge us at all waiting outside. I wish she had atleast popped her head out and said "someone will be with you in a second please wait out here" but there was nothing. There is also no sign outside that says there is a capacity limit, so we really weren't sure if we should go in or continue to wait outside....everyone was kind of just floundering. This is also not ideal because they except both walk-ins and appts so you are both waiting to be pierced at the same time regardless if you have an appt or not. read more

I had a great experience getting pierced by Sarah! Not only was she very friendly and fun to meet, she really helped calm my nerves and feel comfortable. Sarah really made me feel taken care of. To say we just had a nightmare experience with Rowan ear piercing at Target would be an under statement. I am still livid about the whole situation. My wife and I took our 4 year old daughter to get her ears pierced after she asked us to do this for her birthday. We have a rule in our family, once our girls are old enough to ask us to pierce their ears we let them. I have 4 girls and we have taken each of them to a tattoo shop for their piercings (they do it all the time and have experience). We thought we would give Target a chance. NEVER AGAIN. This guy took several attempts just to get the dot placed correctly on her ear. On the second ear he was so shaky he literally drew a line from the center of the ear down to the bottom. I looked at my wife in horror. We should have left in that moment and that will be a mistake I will never live down. I thought once the dots were positioned correctly he would have no problem hitting the mark. The first ear was pierced and he totally missed it. It was way off. He looks at us and says "yeah it's a little off, I can redo it..." im still fuming... I couldn't believe a guy like this would pass their vetting process. If there even is a vetting process. He had 0 hand eye coordination. We took the earring out and went straight to a tattoo parlor. They of course did a great job. I have no clue why we took a chance on a piercing place in Target. Firstly, they made my daughter's experience getting her ear's pierced easy, fun and exciting. All the employees were clearly experienced with nervous kids and how to sooth them. On top of that, I had some stubborn old piercing jewelry that I wanted removed from my ears and the woman helping me, Alyssa, was calmly determined to to do so. It took a while, and so much patience on her end, but she successfully removed them. However, the open random area, which was two clothes racks pushed aside in the girl's clothing section, was less than inviting. The upsell for expensive solution and additional earrings was ridiculous considering I was already paying over $200 for 2 girls. Overpriced. Definitely didn't feel like I was providing a special experience for my girls as shoppers gawked around us looking at girls sports bras and clearance items.
