This just my honest review, not personal at all. They claim they are open Saturday's which is a lie. I called them to get a suspension diagnosis estimate which was fine. I asked them how much it would it be to replace all brake rotors and brake pads, which I purchased a couple months back from Land Rover Dealership. The guy stated "WHY WOULD YOU BUY THE PARTS, WHO BUYS PARTS AND WANTS TO GET THEM INSTALLED" which clear indicator that they want to rip you off with labor and parts. I have a 2002 Range Rover. I've had this truck for over 7 years. She's really special to me. I mean, both my marriages together didn't last that long. We've grown together over the years and I've come to accept many quirks/issues she's developed over that time. I finally felt like it was time to do a little overhaul on her and get her back to a place closer to where she was when I first found her, for both her and me. I've been to different dealers and been displeased a few times for a few reasons, and the work I needed done was beyond your local auto shop's capabilities, so I did some research online and found Rover Specialists. It seemed like the best alternative to going to a dealer, and it was. I spoke to Vinnie on the phone and then dropped off my rover with the keys and a lonnggg list of issues to be addressed. He did an awesome job addressing everything and then some, keeping in contact with me for status updates, and after a few weeks she was ready. When I picked up my rover today, *wipes tear* she was a sight for sore eyes. She may be a 2002 but now she looks and drives like new, and I spent probably half of what I would have at a dealer. I would recommend Rover Specialist to anyone with a Land Rover. Vinnie is a great guy who does great work, seems to have your vehicle's best interests in mind and tries to save you money wherever he can. Specialist? My wife and I were in desperate need of engine service on our Land Rover Freelander. As Garfield residents, and as per the convenience factor of having a self-proclaimed Land Rover Specialist in town, we assured ourselves that Vinnie of Roverspecialist at 11 Marsellus Place, Garfield, New Jersey was the best and most logical choice for our Land Rover needs. We could not be more hopelessly wrong. We were reminded of Vinnie's failed attempt at performing a tune-up on our Freelander when we received an appointment post card by mail a few days ago, citing "we really miss you! Your oil change will really come in handy before you hit the road for your vacation / hunting season / winter! It will save you money and frustration down the road!" It is the frustration which provides the impetus for this review. Our engine was in need of service - including new rings and gasket. Vinnie assured us he could perform all of the work necessary to have our vehicle back on the road and in working order. In approximately a week and a half, Vinnie called us and said the Freelander was read to go! When we arrived at Roverspecialist, Vinnie explained that the SUV starts up fine, but that there's a "little poof of smoke" that we'll see each time... This seems abnormal from the start. We drive the vehicle home, nonetheless, but while on the road, the engine begins to rattle and shake a bit while at a stop light; in addition, a loud tick-tick-tick of the motor is now extremely noticeable. Vinnie gives us a box of six spark plugs and tells me that the plugs may need to be changed again. Without a doubt, this is the strangest auto mechanic experience I have ever had. I will admit that the service cost over $1,000 (without being specific), and that we probably did more damage to the motor by bringing it to Roverspecialist. A couple of weeks later, we had the Freelander towed to a Chevy dealer for a trade-in; and, needless to say, we lost several thousand dollars, when factoring the Roverspecialist cost as well as financing. Positives? * There are none. A front parking lot is filled with Land Rovers from different eras for eye candy. That is all. Negatives? * Quality of workmanship * Trustworthiness * Cost (to damage the vehicle even more) What advice would you give to someone who is considering this shop? * Don't do it. Dear God, don't do it. Take your Land Rover to a dealer, and pay them to do the job right. Don't trust this shop. read more

Owner of a 2004 LR Disco HSE- and the ONLY reason why I still can drive this car is Vinnie T / Rover Specialist. If it wasn't for his cheap repairs I would have traded-in this 15yo loong ago. As you can tell- Rovers are all about the beauty- the engineering is sometimes sidelined. That's where Vinnie steps in. He understands the root of Land Rover mechanical/electrical issues and can maintain your car for years and years for less than anyone else on the Eastern Seaboard. Unfortunately, I had taken my 2005 Range Rover to JLR Manhattan, which was such an absolute headache (doing so only because I generally have always taken my vehicles to get serviced at the dealer). His knowledge and passion for the brand shows through his workmanship. It also helps that he has great customer service skills. Vinnie was able to bring my vehicle up to par and for the fraction of the price the dealer would have charged. He also offered to give me a lift to the train station since I wasn't familiar with the area. Also went out of his way to get an NY state inspection that was due. I'm on my second rover now and have a 2006 D3 with 208k on it at the time of this post. My long time indy mechanic has called it quits and so I found Vinny on the interweb. My car has a series of small and larger issues stemming from a few burst cooling hoses. Never meeting him and having my car towed to a perfect stranger l, without me there, wasn't warm and fuzzy but he looked at the car and had a check list of things for me within a day or two. Talked to him on the phone; down to earth normal dude and we talked thru his recommendations. The prices were fair and I gave him the go ahead. From that point we had a few detours based on things he saw and recommended we do, while he had the cooling system dissembled. ("Let's do the water pump- it's a few bolts and we're in there anyway"). I never felt he was trying to up-sell me but rather, just giving me the opportunity to be proactive. I have had the car back now for a few days and she is driving pretty nice. Knowing this car, I found out he did somethings we never talked about. (Topped tranny fluid off.. for sure.. or reset adaptations... or both?) and he even replaced the bonnet struts that were busted. Solid rover experience and an all-around good soul. Def would have him over for Macaroni. (Piss off. I'm Italian too). read more

Took our 06 Range Rover to Vinnie and I don't think we'll ever take the car anywhere else. Vinnie explained each part of the repair (we'll have to come back once the parts come in, but he came up with a smart interim fix in the meantime) and he explained that what really needed to be fixed was half as difficult and half the price as the original quote that we got somewhere else. Vinnie explained the repair process and the bill in a level of detail that no dealer ever has. We appreciated Vinnie's consideration and integrity in only doing the work that was necessary. He actually has us excited to drive this car again, which we were pretty much ready to write off because our repair experiences at the dealer were getting worse and worse. I have an 05 LR3 and for anything other than a basic oil change or alignment I won't take my Rover anywhere else! These are complicated vehicles that even foreign specialist mechanics aren't familiar with. Vinnie has the same software and experience as the dealer but at a fraction of the price. Honest and fair. I have a 2011 Range Rover Supercharge that I bought from a friend that bought it new. My friend told me he just had car serviced at Range Rover 2 weeks after I bought it, the airbag light came on. I took it to Range Rover dealership for servicing and they told me the truck needed a new airbag which cost $2700. I called Vinnie who came highly recommended from a friend and he diagnosed the problem as a loose wire, the loose wire was a result of the dealership servicing the car changing the airbag which was on recall. Not only did Vinnie save me a ton of money but he is honest, very fair with his pricing and knows these cars like the back of his hand. His knowledge is impressive and I trust his expertise. unfortunately, while i love my car, it's had two issues over the past few years. if there wasn't a vinnie to bring my 2011 Sport to, i would be forced to get rid of my car. when your RR is out of warrantee and something goes wrong with your car, one phone call to any LR dealer for an estimate is enough to give you a heart attack. when you call vinnie and get a more realistic rate for the job, you can then stop crying and trust him to do the work. having gone through the same training as any LR mechanic, he's your guy. pull into his lot and that's what you will see. he knows the history of the car and i trust him completely to diagnose what's wrong. while i hope i never see him again;), i'm at least comforted knowing he's there. read more

Not often you find an independent mechanic that is knowledgeable, honest and upfront with you nowadays. My discovery overheated on South Jersey and I had to have it towed to Vinnie one late night, off hours. We've never met before not done business prior. Everything was handled over the phone and thru the tow company - I haven't even been to the shop yet. In two days he got back to me with his findings in a very detailed way explaining what might be wrong and what it would cost me to have it addressed, which was way more reasonable than what people paid / got quoted by dealer or other mechanics in NY/NJ area. I decided to hold off on the repair until winter and went to him to pick up the car yesterday. We ended up chatting for over an hour while waiting for the tow truck and he literally charged me pizza money for the tests / inspection he did to verify exhaust gas leak into cooling system. He doesn't have polished marble floors or a $5,000 cappuccino maker in his waiting area but I'm the type of person that would hire an experienced freelancer working from home in his boxers than a fancy downtown NYC company who would charge your triple the amount for a lesser work. Vinny is a Rover guy. He knows the vehicles inside and out. He has worked on my 1995 Defender 90 since the warranty expired 20 years ago. The truck has never had any issues. He is thorough, fair and honest. I would never go anywhere else, period! My wife and I have two Land Rovers and have had horrific experiences with dealers and repair shops in NJ. Most recently my wife's LR3 had the brake warning light come on and this needed to be addressed ASAP. Usually this would be a replace and hope it fixes the problem process as we experienced elsewhere but not with Vinnie... Oh no.. He let us drop the truck off after hours and put the key in the key drop, looked at the truck the next morning and low and behold, the previous mechanic did not install the brake pad wear warning cable properly and it wore through from rubbing against the wheel. A quick replace and inspection and $200 later we were good to go. We are having issues with our Land Rover Discovery and cannot wait to bring that to him as well! If you don't bring your Rover there for service, sell your Rover now, you don't deserve to own it. Never in all my life have I met a mechanic with such integrity. read more

I am the original owner of a 2002 Freelander, which has @ 85k miles and miraculously only recently started needing frequent repairs. Like many of the other reviewers, I used a local Land Rover Dealership for repairs, but we couldn't quite get all the issues resolved and it was becoming too expensive. So I took my Freelander to Rover Specialist. Everyone has described Vinnie perfectly. He took a lot of time explaining what needed to be repaired and coming up with a plan for prioritizing the order of repair. He was always available to answer any follow-up questions and the work was done, as scheduled and I couldn't be happier with the work, customer service and price. Took my RRS 2006 to him. This guy completely lied about his work. Asked him to fix parking brake light issue and do a simple transmission fluid maintenance. He sold me on full parking brake replacement for $1700 plus and messed up my brakes completely. Then on the transmission fluid flush he put the wrong fluid and transmission started slipping. He told me I need a new transmission (and tried to sell me on 8k for a new transmission). Went to dealer, dealer charged me $1500 to do brakes correctly and re-flushed transmission with correct Fluid. Truck runs perfect. He is dishonest and tries to bait and switch people with this crappy work. He knew he was wrong (I literally proved it via paper work from dealer). Going to sue him now, he's not horning his FALSE work. All beware honesty and living up to your work is everything. This guy has neither. And he doesn't know Jack on new Range Rovers. Gives a low price and then does bait and switch and is a horrible mechanic. read more
