Wasn't expecting much when we went to Fort Leonard Wood for our son's graduation from Army Basic training. I joked as we passed Tacos and Wings on our way into Post and said "I bet that's simple but good." Ironically the clerk at the hotel recommended this exact place. It's a fun kind of vibe. Has old arcade games all around and good country music on the screens. Service is very good. Everyone is super friendly. Now for the food: Flavorful and different. This isn't really a Mexican place. They have crafted creative flavors in the form of tacos. I had the Crispy Chicken Bacon Avocado Taco where every bite had bacon in it. The chicken was nicely flavored and the avocado was fresh sliced and balanced the overall combination of flavors. I also couldn't resist the Bayou Gator Taco. It definitely brought back memories of all of my visits to Gatorland in Orlando. It not only had crunchy gator bites in it but also had shrimp and I was very impressed that they had properly deveined the shrimp. A little too much mayo for me, but overall good. The chips were seasoned with a little kick of maybe cayenne pepper and I loved the salsa bar. Definitely try the pineapple salsa. It was spicy like a salsa verde with just a touch of sweetness from the pineapple. I also liked the tomatillo salsa. The strawberry chipotle wings were recommended. Definitely a unique flavor. I'm a hot and spicy girl so I think I would have liked them a little better if they would have had a little more kick of heat. Excellent value. Couldn't believe how much food we got (4 tacos, 10 wings, queso, chips, and 2 drinks) for $40 including tip! Keep it simple and affordable and go to Tacos and Wings. read more

For a unique taco experience, this is it! We love eating here because the tacos are untraditional. It is a must try. Do it, go with friends and have a good time. I had a fish taco, a shrimp taco + black beans and rice, wife had surf & turf nachos. They were custom made and quite tasty. What irritating us is my wife is gluten intolerant and wanted a little help with ordering (we'd never been there before) and all they said was corn shells were on some tacos the rest were flour you'll just have to look through the menu. Not much help! The other thing was they had decent music playing for background ambience (it was a little loud) and then they started Halloween toys making all kinds of noises at the same time! The conflicting noises left us leaving earlier than we planned! Again we commented to the staff and they didn't care. Decided to try some wings from Route 66 tacos and wings, which is clearly displayed on their sign that they do wings. I ordered a 12 piece white barbecue with fries and ranch for my dipping sauce. Since they are supposed to be the go to St Robert Taco and Wing place I wanted to try them out while I was in town. I was sorely disappointed in the wings as they had zero flavor. It's like they just stuck wings in the fryer cooked them up and threw some bland sauce on them that had no seasoning or taste whatsoever, besides that the wings were extremely overdone, tough and hard to even chew to top that off the ranch dipping sauce was like water. The fries were just average. I could only choke down a couple of them and left the rest. Oh my goodness! I was not too sure about this place when we pulled up, but WOW I was wrong! Vickie was so welcoming and told us all about the food and drinks. I had the best Ultimate Margarita! Hubby and I both had tacos and I also had wings! I'm always so impressed when an establishment actually wants their customers happy! I like all flats and crispy when I order wings. There are so many Mexican restaurants in this town... this place looked bit different, so decided to try it out. I placed a phone order before I left Walmart and ordered the following: - one each of Bayou gator, pulled pork, brisket - two of bulgogi taco - Mexican street corn - 24 wings -red dragon and hot buffalo with blue cheese With tips - $60. The best taco had to be the bayou gator - the fried item, the veggies and the sauces went perfectly together. I would recommend this taco. The next taco I would recommend is the pulled pork. The pork was juicy, however lacked a lit in the seasoning department. Then would recommend the brisket... like pork, it was lacking some seasoning, but it was good. Bulgogi - I wouldn't really call this bulgogi taco. Rather it's thin sliced ribeye cooked, served in a flour tortilla with vinegar based slaw. The meat had no seasoning at all. They should really use the meat in philly sandwich the only draw back to bulgogi and pulled pork - the tortilla was very saggy by the time I got home (5 minute drive). Wings - maybe its better eating it at the restaurant. While the wings were hot, all the sauces were coated up by the parchment paper. I'm not sure why, but they placed the celery inside with the wings and it got cooked. I would recommend you dine-in, rather then take out, this would give you better experience. read more

They have some unique options for tacos that were awesome and if you're looking for a delicious bites and quick service, this place is definitely a go. Bayou Gator Taco (5/5): I had never had gator before and had no idea what to expect, but they serve up gator tail fried perfectly! The textural contrast you get between the crunchy, succulent gator with shrimp is awesome and this is a must try! Elk Taco (2.75/5): This just felt like a normal ground beef taco. It wasn't bad, but it was simply okay. The ground elk is slightly earthier than what you would typically expect in beef, but if I had just eaten the taco without any context, I don't think I would have noticed the difference. Bacon Maple Toffee Cookie (4.5/5): I had never seen this as a dessert option before and just had to get it. The bacon is finely diced and is throughout every single bite of the cookie. The savoriness is very present and honestly complements the sweetness of the chunks of toffee throughout. Would love to try these fresh at some point and I highly recommend it. My only regret was not finding it sooner. While visiting the area for ARMY basic training graduation I was allowed to spend family and graduation day with my son. My wife and I went to this establishment to eat dinner, there were two registers, one was occupied and the other one was available and we were waiting to be called on from the cashier. Someone else came in after us and the cashier at the open register called them to her register and skipped us. After she helped them, she still did not call us over. Another person walked in and she called them over, and the customers asked us if we were in line and we said yes and my wife walked over to the cashier and asked if she can help us and she said something to the sort of "I guess". After that customer service experience, we left and did not get any food from there. We did not get her name, but she had reddish/pink hair. That is why I rated this establishment 1 Star. I ordered 2 Baja shrimp tacos and Mexican street corn. When I tell you I inhaled the tacos after the first bite. They were so damn good! The Mexican street corn was really good. As a Latina you're fearful of disappointment since you've had the real thing. The toppings were the same as an authentic street cob with the exception of their chili, it almost taste like it had a hint of chipotle but nonetheless DELICIOUS. My husband ordered the Cuban burrito and being experts in Cuban food, he said it wasn't too bad :) We will definitely be coming back and trying other options here. One of my favorite restaurants here! I love the lava burrito (get it with chicken or ribeye) as well as the garlic parmesan wings. I've had one taco (Big Kahuna) and it was good, but it could've used some kind of sauce to go with it. The garlic Parm wings are always cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside, meaty, juicy, plenty of sauce... Everything you want on a wing. I wasn't impressed with the mild buffalo wings, but this is so good that that's okay. They also have lots of mixed alcoholic beverages to choose from. The restaurant itself is a trip. Decor is interesting, but they do also have arcade games which is nice if you have a kid (or want to challenge a friend). They do deliver and they can deliver to the base as well.
