The portions of beef, chicken, and shrimp were shockingly small -- more like garnish than a main entrée. For a $20 plate, the value simply isn't there. I was really craving Mexican food being away from Texas and all. Started off w/chips & salsa; chips were good and the salsa was really tasty for a table salsa. I added on some queso; that was a bit runny and bland.. still decent. After looking over the menu.. I decided on getting an Asada Torta & the enchiladas Bandera! The enchiladas came with/3, each one had a different sauce topping.. rice and beans. The enchiladas were all really good! Rice was tasty and the beans had good refried taste and they were topped with some white cheese. I had to ask if the plate came with tortillas.. came to find out that's not normal. So I added an order of flour tortillas. I'm used to homemade.. or at least cooked, the flour tortillas were straight out the package.. almost felt steamed. That was the only complaint. The torta.. man, that hit the spot! It was loaded, and the salsa that came with it was tasty & just the right amount of spicy!! Absolute horrible customer service. Group of friends and I decided to try them out. Took 30 minutes just to get our order started. TWO HOURS later, we get our food, and it is all cold. Granted we're a group of 8, but still... 2 hours?!! Rightfully so, we asked the waitress immediately for our checks and if some of us could get a little taken off the price given that we didn't get the experience we paid for. Not only did the manager refuse to discount the meals, for those of us who lost our appetites and didn't even touch our food, we couldn't even leave with it, ya know, as a courtesy for terrible wait times. Even worse, still made us pay full price for our drinks. Not even a "sorry". 2 1/2 hours of waiting just for me to have to pay for a $3 drink..... They should be ashamed of such penny-pinching. Highly recommend the flan and tres leches cake. Went for dinner because it was next to our hotel. We were in town for our grandson's graduate from Fort Leonardwood from Southern California. Our son and daughter-in-law as well as us are a bit picky about our Mexican food and did not disappoint. Liked it so much went back for lunch for family day. Great atmosphere. My husband and I were on a date and we decided to go to El Cabritos . It was the best date night ever. All of the employees were amazingly customer service friendly. That's very rare now days. The food left us wanting more. I had a margarita and babe let me tell you it wasn't watered down. Senor Chuy was our server and he treated us like VIPs. We've found our favorite date night spot! I have tried this place many times yet wouldn't have come back after my first visit (friends or meetings followed up there). Every meat item I have ever ordered has come out extremely fatty which was a turn off after the first bite. The very last time I visited one person in our party had a long hair in their burrito mix (inside their burrito when they cut it up). This made ME lose my appetite and we had just got our food. I ordered mixed fajitas to go and it was 75% veggies. The little bit of meat that was in there had zero favor. I had to add salt pepper and spices at home on my own. The rice tasted like soap and the tortillas just don't taste homemade. Only thing that was good in my order were the refried beans and it had very little. I don't know if the owner changed but the entire service staff is new and they said they had all new cooks and it shows. I gave them a 5 star review 2 years ago and I'm so sad that I'm having to change it to barely 2 stars now. The old servers were so attentive and caring and it was a fun atmosphere there. So the first time I went to El Cabrito was on Cinco de Mayo and being completely aware of how packed it was going to be I knew not to get my hopes up with the service. However, service was actually pretty frickin good for how crowded it was that night! From the exterior, it's a big, tall boxy looking building with a small, fenced outside seating and some banners. From the inside, it's a clean, nicely decorated Mexican restaurant. I have been here multiple times now and I can say that this is probably the BEST customer service I have gotten from any Mexican restaurant I've been to. Thanks to Antonio and Chewy- they are amazing. Even the rest of the staff I haven't grown to know their names yet but this restaurant not only makes you feel very welcomed and at home but their food is delicious!! Speaking of food... and drinks lol they have this awesome happy hour from I think 5pm to close where their short beers are like 2.50 and their tall is 3.50 which is when I come in and take advantage! It goes perfectly with the food they have there and I have only tried the El Cabrito special but I'm definitely going to try their pork tips w carne verde salsa this weekend and I'll post about that! The only negative aspect is that my husband ordered the Tazajo Fries and something in it gave him food poisoning. He was literally up all night long and Still going.
