Came in for simple ice cream and took 20 minutes to get a shake and a sundae with my daughter. Waitress had no clue what she was doing and stopped our shake making in the middle to allow four people to pay while we sat and waited. She was just out of training according to her own admission which is fine but she was alone in the place with the exception of the cool in the back. The place was cold which was not what we were looking for on a cold snowy night. The potential for a neat diner on Route 66, but not with this service at these prices. read more

I read 3 reviews of the Route 66 Diner before traveling to Missouri for a 10-day vacation in November, 2011. 2 of the 3 reviews were negative, so I almost didn't go there, but I thought I'd check it out for myself, and was glad I did. I didn't encounter any of the minuses that the other reviewers mentioned. It's a diner, not a 5-star restaurant. The place was clean, the waitresses were very friendly, the prices were fair for the generous portions we got, and the food was tasty! I expected a diner, there was NO MILKSHAKES!! Fries were old tasting, chicken fingers were soooo greasy it was disgusting. They did have good fried pickles but thats it. Oh yes and there was a 3"-5" hole/gap in my seat! I was really looking forward to a good meal here but, we were so rudely turned away. My family and I traveled all day and were looking for a nice place to eat. We were turned away by a young women after a group of people that were only a few steps ahead of us were seated. She rushed to the open/close sign and clicked it to closed as she saw us walking to the restaurant. It was about 9:15 when we walked in and she stated they were no longer accepting anybody. Generous portions and food tastes fresh. Classic roadside diner style food. The classic bacon cheese burger I had was great, fresh lettuce, fresh bread, real bacon strips, and a burger patty that was from fresh ground beef. Others in our group had BLT, buffalo chicken quesadilla (spicy hot!), and the chili with salad and fries. Only complaint was a side salad that needed greener lettuce it was mostly white part of lettuce, but one mention to our server of it, and she swapped it in less than a minute for a perfect green lettuce and tomato side salad with some cheese sprinkles on it. Problem taken care of. Gets 5 stars because it seems the waitresses here really do care that customers are happy. read more

Wow, this place was great! We were welcomed the moment we walked in. The food was fantastic and the waitress we had was awesome. I think she may have been the manager. She sure was an example to the rest of the people working there. She did not sit down one minute. If she wasn't asking customers if they needed anything she was cleaning and filling supplies. This place deserves more props for their breakfast and friendly staff. It's the only place in the area that I have found a decent southwestern breakfast with a good tortilla. The Cadillac Meat Loaf......instant mashed potatoes, nice looking mixed vegetables that tasted like "high water content" probably soaked in hot water all day, and with every bite of the meat loaf I was staring at veins and grissel. We're here visiting from Texas this place is right next to the hotel Were staying In. It's 24 hours so we decided of to our room and change. Headed up there. I was so excited. Got their walk in. First thing I make eye contact with is the trash in the waiting area that has not been cleaned. Ok. We'll the next thing was the pile of dirty dishes on the bar. With cups stacked in them. Okay... Then the couple next to us cheese sticks were still frozen. Needless to say the service was horrible from the door. The waitress was just as bad. No sorry no nothing. I Ordered onion rings and got fries. She was so rude tending to her kids and friends in the restaurant. The children climbing on the door. Screaming it was just a horrible experience. I would go to Buffalo Wild Wings across the highway their service was awesome. I will never go back because the service cleanness was horrible. I wish I had that pic if the nasty bar with dishes. I liked the place. Being from Brooklyn you would think I know about burgers and malts. The blue cheese burger and fries were cooked as ordered and they were very good. The black and white malt was a little on the thick side but who's complaining, the flavor was on the money. The waitress was very friendly and the music they played fit the scene.
