Sometimes you walk into a place and can tell right away they've got their act together. That was the case at Colton's Steak House, where we were seated almost the second we walked in--no waiting, no table shuffle, and the booth was already clean enough to pass muster with the pickiest mother‑in‑law. Before I could even get my glasses out of the case, our waitress--who also doubled as the bartender--was standing by, ready to take the order. Lucky for her, we already knew what we wanted. Drinks landed fast, followed by salads with the right dressing (a small victory in this world), and the steaks showed up before I'd even made a dent in the seat cushion. Mine came out just right--good sear, the right touch of smoke--and that baked potato was the soft, fluffy sort that needs nothing but a little butter and guilt. Our server managed that perfect balance: always nearby when we needed something, never hovering like a drone at dinner. The staff couldn't be better. Extremely polite, kind, accommodating, and never ran dry on our water. They even heated our baby's food we brought with us. We started with 2 appetizers. The chips and artichoke dip which was not good at all to say the least and the chips tasted stale. But the mozzarella sticks were good. For our main course we got the sirloin and shrimp on a bed of rice with a side of cheesy mashed potatoes and macaroni & cheese. The steak was cooked very good. Exactly how my wife had asked for it. The shrimp wasn't all that but what do you expect for a landlocked state. Both sides lacked any real flavor, but the Mac&Cheese was "terrible" and my wife could only stand 2 bites before not touching it again. We also got the smoked sirloin with added mushrooms/onions with a side of mushrooms and green beans. The steak wasn't bad but the mushrooms/onions that I had added were less than desirable. The side of mushrooms was very good and the green beans weren't bad but probably wouldn't order them again. Overall great staff but only 4/10 food items that hit our table were any good. That being the 1 of the steaks, side of mushrooms, mozzarella sticks and ofc the rolls with butter/honey. Came to lunch at Colton's after graduation at Fort Leonard Wood. The place has great a great old west quirky atmosphere. Service was extremely slow! We sat for 15 minutes before even being acknowledged, which was unacceptable. Some of our food was dropped on the floor on the way to our table. A salad was totally forgotten and arrived when the main meal was almost finished. The best things ordered by my group were the chicken fried steak with white peppered gravy and the smothered chicken. We're here at Fort Leonardwood for a graduation. Just got in last night and stopped at Colton's for dinner. The place has a great atmosphere and is really fun. We were seated right away even though the place was pretty packed. Service was excellent, and even though our waitress had several large tables, we were not neglected in anyway. We ordered several appetizers. Fried green beans, fried pickles, smoked salmon dip. There were five of us and for dinner we had steaks, burgers, and chicken sandwiches. Everything was good. The steaks and burgers could've used some seasoning, but nothing that a little salt couldn't fix. I don't know if I would call it a steakhouse as the steak was definitely not the star of the show. Hard pass! I had the ribeye with a side salad and asparagus. The salad was boring, but what can you expect out of a salad at a place like this? They gave you 5 asparagus..... yes, you read that correctly, only five pieces of asparagus. It was bland and had absolutely no taste. The ribeye must've been old, or something from the meal didn't agree, as it's the middle of the night and I am sick from whatever I hate there. Do yourself a favor and go to a real steakhouse. The place was pretty pack not only because a lot of soldiers and their family came to have lunch also some locals. Really unsatisfied with our experience, as i hate to use race in any way. But the way we were treated vs others in the establishment was absolutely disgusting. Our server whos name we dont remember. Completely rushed us. Asked what appetizers we wanted the moment we sat down.. as it was our first time there. While we were on Entrees asked what we wanted for dessert. As a manager of a restaurant infront of Madison square garden. And bringing the bill out without us asking and while eating is highly inappropriate and insulting. We felt so rushed. Came for dinner on Tuesday evening, we got in and were seated right away even though we were a party of 10 ! Will was our server and did a fabulous job, everyone's order came out perfect. We all had steaks and they were prepared just right. My sirloin was excellent, the t-bones and NY strips were as well. Will was very attentive and came often for drinks and anything we needed. Cottons steakhouse is a run of the mill chain Steakhouse. Nothing really stuck out for me. I did really love the peanuts that you could take to your table. The waitstaff was kind, friendly, and fast. Ribeye came out as I ordered, medium rare; however, it tasted like it was dredged in propane. Did not have that char flavor that typically comes from a good steak. Wasn't good at all. The veggies were cold in the center and did not come with seasoning. Tasted like they were straight out of the frozen section of the grocery store. Baked potato's skin was gritty, which let me know they were not throughly cleaned. I ordered a beer from the tap, it wasn't cold and the glass was warm. Wow. Today was Veterans Day and a free meal for my husband. We had the best waitress. The 6 oz sirloin was the best I've ever had. No fat, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Let's start at the beginning. I was seated at the restaurant. We look at the menu real quick. Said I'll take some queso dip. Queso dip arrives and there's one plate on the table for two people. When we ordered dinner then they brought out bread. Again no plate. Finally have to get up and ask for a plate. Then we ordered. I ordered a t-bone rare, with okra fried okra and grilled corn on the side. The girl corn is extra because it's grilled. The second dinner we ordered was a 12 oz ribeye and the two sides were a loaded baked potato and the infamous grilled corn. The corn came in a bowl with water from you know it being boiled not grilled. And they're passing it off as grilled so they can charge it extra. I guess . It's actually boiled, because why else would it have water in the bowl? There was no salt or pepper on the table. I asked for hot sauce for my okra she asked me if I wanted Louisiana or if I wanted a different kind. I told her I would like Louisiana hot sauce for my okra. Didn't get that at all. She didn't even remember! How were the steaks themselves hmmmm. Both steaks were cold. My rare one, and the ribeye cold. Also the corn was cold. We sent back the cold cord and asked them to heat it up. Which they did. We asked for butter because the first ones we tried to put butter on it we realized they were cold. We requested more butter and of course the butter never came. Near the back of the restaurant we see some of the waiters using paper and they're trying to make baskets with it. I guess this place was just too busy to serve real customers. And I guess the cook must have been back there too since the chef did such a lackluster job. Maybe he was one out there playing paper basketball with the rest of the staff. When I mentioned to our waitress this was probably my worst steakhouse experience ever, she said I only work here. The drink was sooo bad I want to give them a 0...but that's not possible so I give them a 1 for the drink portion ....All I have to say is this is a vodka soda lmao (pic attached) like I asked them why there was no bubbles in my vodka soda and my server said it was soda water they put in there and she watched them do it and proceeds to take my drink back and the bartender dumps out the top of the Drink and fills it with more water (not soda water) and has her serve it to me as a "new" drink... like don't sit tables in view of the bar if this is what happens when you explain that soda water is supposed to be bubbly.... This place is hit or miss. I visit here whenever I visit the area due to a sever lack of options in the Saint Robert area. For what it is, itll due. I've sat in both the dining room and the bar. The service in the bar can be very slow depending on the level of traffic in the restaurant as a whole. I'm a bar this size, when it gets busy, there should be a wait person handling the bar tables with food runners. The bartender should never keep their customers waiting and the bar vacant. It's annoying and it definitely reflects on his tip. I like to get the Del Rio. This last time I had it, it was relatively small and fatty. I've had larger steaks in the past when I ordered the Del Rio. So, for the price I paid for it, there should be no fat on that thing and it should fill that darn platter. Chin up guys. Only issue was my steak and potatoes came out and they were cold. I've never experienced this before at a restaurant so it was jarring to have mash that was actually cold. I had already cut the steak so the servicer took it back and they reheated everything for me. The mash came before the steak and was lava (guess the point was made haha ). From there, all was fine.
