Did the Butcher's Basement with my boyfriend and we had a wonderful time! The puzzles matched the difficulty stated on the website (4/5 if I remember correctly). If you're worried about the horror effect, don't worry because I was too, but it was not bad! This room calls for a maximum of 8 people but we were able to complete it with 2. The staff were friendly and kind, and the ambience of the place is lovely. Looking forward to trying out the other rooms! read more

Roundabout Canada is located right in downtown core, just a minute walk away from Yonge and Dundas. Given their location, and the fact that they have 5 games available, I came in expecting smaller scale rooms (compared to the ones out in Markham or North York). And the room we were in was definitely not large. However, unless moving around was a key element in the story, I wouldn't base my ratings solely on size. We did the Prisoner. Given the allotted space they had to work with, I would say they made good use of it. There's enough space to walk around, and it really set the atmosphere of the story. Each clue was only used for one puzzle, and there were enough hints to be able to logically connect them to the appropriate locks. There was a clear sense of progression as you solved each puzzle, allowing you to move towards the next step of the story. Several clues were related to the story itself, and that's always good design. The only drawback to me is the amount of space they have to work with, given that they decided to run 5 different games concurrently, since you're paying the same price as pretty much everywhere else read more

In terms of delivery/operational quality, Roundabout is the most professional escape room experience my wife and I have tried. Staff are helpful, the rooms and their moving parts are well maintained, and the overall facility is pretty clean. Brief commentary on two of the rooms: 1) The ninja room is superbly designed. It's playable, fun, and one clue clearly leads to the next in a logical fashion. Be aware that one of the challenges requires a good deal of patience and hand-eye coordination. As escape rooms go, ninja is a shining example of how to do it right. 2) By contrast, the mummy room is interesting but suffers from some (in my opinion) design flaws. After overcoming the first couple puzzles, one is quickly saturated with what I'll call "clue overload". There are too many partially-complete pieces of information, which leads to a chaotic rather that methodological progression. Moreover, the extreme low light conditions make an already tough room nearly impossible. One other word to the wise: don't arrive too early. Waiting area quarters are super cramped. Nevertheless, this is a great escape room operation. We'll be back next Toronto visit. read more

This was a really good experience. I did enjoy the escape room that was offered. This was something that was on a whim so it satisfied something to do at the moment. One thing to note... it's easy to miss once you looking for it you may have to call to get precise direction. But to ease your angst, it's next door to a shoe store and the door is a yellowish green with a small stick at the top thats day roundabout Canada. Once I got up stairs, my family and I stood in the office for about 2 mins before anyone came. I can here some people audibly talking in the room next to the counter. Finally the hostess (actually it was 2 hostesses ) came out a room that wasn't an escape room, and was surprised we were standing there. She gather her self and ask did we have a booking. I told her I was just on the phone with her and we were coming up to book. The hostess, now with the second hostess, begin explaining the escape rooms, time limits etc. one great thing she did tell me over the phone was that they give unlimited time if there isn't any bookings that is rare for escape rooms. They offer 5 escape rooms however it's seem 3 of them were booked and she was really favoring a "new" escape room called Ninja. We accepted and went to the room. The Hostess pitched a wack storyline of the escape I had to hold on a laugh. However once in the room it was pretty awesome. Not to give anything away. But it's one particular part that can eat up a large portion of time in the room. We asked for a clue and instead of giving of a hint she told us what we needed to start the next part. After that it took us in totale 1 hour and 12 minutes to solve. After we solved, we hit a button to alert that we won but no one came in the room. We hit the button a few more time and no one still came. We use the hint phone to let them know that we was finished... however all she told us is we could've just left the room. The obligatory "how was the escape room?" Question came. She just told us we can take pics with the props and our phone to post them... we went back in getting our things to leave and my significant other said she want to do the popular zombie room and they immediately offer 10% for same day second booking. We thought about it and decided against it. The escape room was super fun but the set up was iffy at best. If you did an escape room before you know how they are protective of the puzzles even banning you from that room you played for the year. I'm pretty sure we could've played that room again that same day they would've been happy. Also inexpensive treat. $30 Canadian which is $22 dollars American. I've completed a room in this location in the past and it was entertaining (though I don't think it's too hard if you completed escape rooms in the past). Location: Being only a couple minute walk from Yonge-Dundas Square, makes it a super convenient place for those hanging out in the area. At 28.99+tax per person, I would say it is on the pricier side, however it does align with cost of things in the area. Staff: Didn't have much interaction with them. They were nice and got the job done. I do wish they explained the plot more to get you much more immersed in the game. Room: I have done Final Destination in the past but this time around I was in Butcher's Basement which is a room for 3 to 8 people, though I will say that this room is ideally for 3 to 4 people. In fact, this room can be doable between 2 people if you are efficient enough. The room is very linear, which can be a good thing, but it can also cause less things for there to do for larger groups. Also due to the size and the visibility, I can't imagine doing this room with 8 people. Overall, it is a low tech room, providing entertainment in the downtown area. read more

We visited Roundabout for my friend's 30 birthday. We've done a number of Escape rooms across the city and this one definitely was one of the better ones. We played "The Prisoner" and while on the surface the room seemed like it was going to be pretty straightforward it was actually quite a lot of fun. My biggest complaint about escape rooms is they can sometimes feel like just a series of combination locks that you have to open one after another. The best ones use a variety of locks, a unique mixture of puzzles and production value and have a fun story to tie it all together. The Prisoner ticked all these boxes - it also featured one of my favourite gimmicks so far (which I won't speak much of to avoid spoilers). If we had any complaints it would perhaps be with the staff who didn't seem overly attentive and were pretty complacent about our escape (most other escape rooms we've tried they at least cheer for you and let you know your time, here we had to tell them what our time was). This is pretty minor though, since the fun is in the escape, not what happens after. The cost is reasonable for downtown, and as always is certainly a lot more fun with a group of friends than going to the movies or something. We'll definitely be back! read more

Came to this place with a group of six to try out one of their escape rooms which is called butchers basement. The staff were friendly and informative, and you get 10% off if you have a valid student ID from Tuesday to Thursday! For the room itself, however, I found it to be a little too easy and didn't really match with the storyline they had advertised. I've been to a fair amount of escape rooms and this place is very small compared to other places with less rooms and deals mainly with combination locks and less tasks. We actually didn't realize we had finished until one of the staff let us know through the walkies, so it was a little confusing and we expected a little more. The decorations of the place were pretty good though, will maybe consider coming back to try a different room with greater difficulty! read more

We just had a wonderful experience at Roundabout. My girlfriend and I are huge room escape fans and we've tried out many of Toronto's room escape places and this one did not disappoint us! We played the 'Final Destination' room by ourselves. Even though it is located in the center of Dundas Square, and the room itself is smaller than other places (as you would expect in such a location), the use of space and the room decoration are definitely clever and excellent. Without giving out too much info on this room, it is an airplane theme room and they even have real airplane seats as well as the food trolley on board, which adds a great immersive touch to the experience. We managed to escape successfully with few minutes left to spare, but we wasted some of the time because of two technical glitches along the way. The puzzles in the room are straightforward and linear in my opinion, but most are well designed. And because of this linearity of the room, along with its limited space, I would recommend at most 4 people to be playing this room as I would imagine more people might be too crowded and simply not helpful. Overall, great experience in a great location (small waiting area so don't arrive too early, but plenty to do in Dundas for sure). We would try to come back to try the 'Prisoner' room next time! read more

If there was addiction counseling for escape rooms, I would consider hosting an intervention for my buddy Brooke. She just can't get enough. So when she, along with another bestie, were in town we preplanned a night with an escape room sandwich. Escape-Dinner-Escape, with both rooms being at Roundabout. There wasn't much about Roundabout online, so I felt like I was taking a chance... but it turned out so well. The nicest ladies ever play host, and away you go. The first one we did was Final Destination. It's about escaping an airplane. The surroundings of it are impressive (real airplane stuff!), but it was very puzzle/lock heavy, and probably not ideal for our silly group. However, our second room, The Butcher's Basement was insane! Off the hook! The scariest, most fun room everrr! I just can't say enough great things about it. I really wanted to like these guys for a number of reasons: their rooms are available on short notice; the rooms are fun; their location is great; the front staff is pretty fun. And I'm an escape room junkie. But here's the deal... twice, now, they had major errors in their rooms that completely ruined the experience: 1) In the first instance (room was Final Destination), one of the locks was actually left unlocked, and brought us into another phase of game play inadvertently. It exposed us to another phase of the game prematurely, and even made us think that it was a part of the escape narrative. This was a group of four. 2) On a different occasion, their "high tech" room (Diamond Creed) had a tablet device that completely malfunctioned. When we unlocked it, it kept asking for a WiFi connection, and we obviously kept thinking that it was a part of the puzzle. It wasn't; it was just another screw up. This occupied about ten minutes of our time in the game. This was a group of three people. We had gone through other rooms here and enjoyed ourselves, but these two events understandably killed our buzz both times. But the real kicker is how they dealt with these things. The first time we let it slide thinking it was an honest mistake. The second time we started to see that they may be sloppy: 1) We brought this up at the front desk, mentioning the previous screw-up as well. We were looking for compensation and they said they couldn't do anything. 2) I emailed them with a detailed explanation of both situations, and they didn't even take the time to reply. I like Roundabout enough to have done a few rooms here (Pyramid and Butcher). The location is just so convenient and though they seem fairly busy, I seem to be able to walk in and have one of the rooms available. The staff here are super friendly, and as the space in general is pretty cramped, you end up talking to them for quite a bit both before and after the games. Before getting into the puzzles themselves, I really must comment on how small the space is. I know this is out of their control, but the first room in the Pyramid room cannot actually fit 5 people, despite the room being made for 2-5 people. Other than that, when you are in the first room, you can hear everything outside including other escapers arriving or the staff talking. It's incredibly difficult to focus or get into the mood when you hear other people laughing just outside the door. Otherwise, the rooms are decorated relatively nice and with moderate details. It's not the best decorated place but certainly better than most. There were surprises in the butcher's room which we enjoyed. Now, onto the puzzles themselves. They're very user friendly as there are a few types of locks and the staff will walk you through how to unlock each kind before hand. Some of the puzzles are fairly creative, but in the pyramid room we found them to be a bit far fetched. When our time has run out and we were unable to escape, one of the staff came to walk us through it, and I must say I thought it was pretty unreasonable. Especially in the pyramid room with handpainted hieroglyph, it could be hard to decipher their codes. Based on the experience with the pyramid room, I was a bit hesitant to try the butcher room but found that it was more enjoyable with the variations of puzzles. Though it's definitely much easier and we were able to escape at about 30 minutes, which made me feel as if I've wasted my money a little. read more

I took on the Ninja room with my family of 6 adults and we had a very good experience overall! Pros: - The puzzles. Creative, novel, good balance of cognition and technique. I have nearly 20 games of escape room experience in the US and I saw things here that got my very excited. There were also very few distractors, so our time was spent on the right things. - Technology. Cool mechanisms added some fun surprises to the room. Cons: - Linear progression. Each puzzle had to be solved before moving on to the next one. For a group of more than 3 or so, I always prefer for there to be multiple tasks to perform at once so that everyone has something to do. - Length. We didn't completely annihilate this room but we still finished it with almost half of the time left. An extra sub-room with a few more puzzles would have added a lot of fun and value to the experience. Neutral: - Theme/plot. The ninja theme was really neat and they make you take your shoes off before entering the dojo, but the plot was a little under-developed and the end of the room was slightly less satisfying that I had hoped. Summary: Great fun and a well done room--would definitely recommend! The puzzles were great--just limited. Compared to the other rooms I've run, the tasks were challenging but few. The main thing I would suggest to increase the quality further would be decreasing the linearity and adding in more tasks, (even easier ones would be okay), to keep players involved and occupied for longer. read more

Airplane chairs and food/beverage trolley So you won't be disappointed of the work they put into the rooms Butcher room embience was actually terrifying and kinda cool. I found this one easier than the plane room. The staff here are what makes this an amazing place to come back too!! So friendly and nice that you can chat with while you wait. I find the prices a bit steep, considering that it was around $32 per person but I'm not sure if that's the standard price for escape rooms because this was my first one. The room that we picked was a bit small and very cramped but we did end up solving the story within the hour. Came in with a group of friends and played two of their five rooms which were Butcher's Basement and The Prisoner. Extremely impressed with the quality of the rooms here. I would give it a 4.5 but rounded it up to a 5. Here's why: Location of this place is pretty great, right near Dundas Square. Closest parking would be Atrium on Bay. But it is also close to the subway. It is right on Yonge street, above the Marble Slab Creamery (also, if you keep your receipt for after the game and bring it to Marble Slab, you get 10% off). Considering the prime location of this place, my initial thought would be, how could they possibly fit 5 themes into this place without compromising on space and quality? Well, they did a pretty awesome job with clever puzzles that make sense throughout the game - which are not overly difficult, but not too easy - and amazing props. That being said, the reception area of this place is extremely tiny. Only 3 bar stools for you to wait, so I'd advise do not come any earlier than you need to. The great part about this is, it's right on Yonge, so there's lots of things to do before coming in, whether it be shopping or grabbing a coffee or whatever. The staff there were only okay, and this is where they hurt the most. There were two girls working and both did not speak English all that well. One of them was quite rude when giving us hints.. she asked my sister "Can you move?" kind of dryly without a please. I'm a stickler for customer service, so I was a little disappointed with that. Nevertheless, it shouldn't stop you from coming in to try the rooms. Other than that one tiny thing - I would definitely recommend coming here to check out their rooms. I have been going to different escape games with the same group of 4 for years now! When we saw the promotional video for Roundabout, we figured we would give it a try. To be quite honest, this place was overly hyped. To start off, Roundabout is really small. This I would understand since it's downtown located in one of the upstairs units of a building around Yonge and Dundas area. Staff were friendly, but seemed to be a little disorganized with the payments that we were initially over charged then had to figure out how to do the refunds for whatever amount we over paid. We had chosen the Butcher's Basement because we wanted the scare. Unfortunately, which caught me off guard and made me give this place a 2 star, the story line was totally different than what was mentioned on the website. It was the same theme, but still threw off the story line which we had already read beforehand. Not too sure if it was the change in story line, but our group was able to escape. It felt too easy for us...something we had NEVER experienced in all our escape rooms that we have done. We got out of the room and all of us were like "That's it?" In conclusion, I think we will still to our escape rooms in Markham. The effects were mediocre, and the change in story for something we were expecting just ruined the experience. read more

The space is a bit dingy and small, but the content of the room made up for it! We did the ninja room and definitely enjoyed it. There was a glitch with one of the puzzles, but other than that, I definitely enjoyed the experience. It's not exactly like other escape rooms and I liked the flow of the room. My three friends and I visited Roundabout during our vacation in Toronto and absolutely fell in love! We've been to different escape rooms throughout the States, but Roundabout stood out to us in a different way - unique, clever, and innovative. The situations for each of the rooms were truly intriguing and mind stimulating. It was such a fun experience for us that we played three times within two days. We did the plane, the butcher (must try!!), and the prisoner. We just kept finding ourselves going back! Additionally, the staff was truly accommodating and super friendly. I went to play an escaper room at Roundabout recently and my experience was AMAZING there! I played their newest Ninja room this time, and I did really enjoy it. The room are well decorated, clean, and spacious. My boyfriend and I spent 50 minutes to escape (we had 10 mins left YAY!) I'd say the puzzles inside the room are definitely a combination of easy and hard ones. This room is probably perfect for intermediate players otherwise you might find it to be too hard or too easy. This room also requires A LOT of teamwork, so make sure you work with your team efficiently! Besides the Ninja room, they have other 4 different rooms for you to try. I like all of their rooms, especially the butcher and the prisoner. If you're new to this, I'd recommend to start with the butcher or final destination room. The staff is really friendly and helpful when you struggle with the puzzles in the room. read more

Came here twice. First time with a group of friends to do the butchers basement and the prisoners and the second time came here with family to do the mummy room. Roundabout is located on the second floor and in the heart of downtown. Easy to find and parking is located close by. Once walking into Roundabout, the lobby area is a bit small, they have lockers that were a bit small to lock our stuff but with the big winter jackets our group needed to use two. After noticing these two things i started to think if the escape rooms would be small too. I was really surprised by how great the rooms were, you can tell the owners put a lot into their rooms here at Roundabout. I would say the puzzles were medium to hard from what im use to at other escape rooms. We had some minor issues with some props that wasted some time but it was ok cause we all had a good laugh after at our friend. They use a walkie talkie to call for hints. The staff were friendly once walking through the doors to the end. Thank yoU Roundabout for a great night of escape games. We all had a great time and i look forward to coming back. Myself and a group of 7 paid for an escape experience at this location called Prisoners. I need to start off by saying that we paid 8 multiplied by $33 each. We escaped within 22 minutes; however, after exiting we realized we missed several locks because one of the locks in the middle was broken and allowed us to skip half the room. This ruined our escape experience, as evidently the room was not reset property. Further, the escape room itself had no storyline, set up, and the room was smaller and poorly built. What was worse was there was no evident manager on site or available. When we spoke to the front desk, she offered us 10% off our next game, then after further discussion she offered 20% and finally dropped back down to 10% (she did not have proper protocol training on this). There was zero accountability for what had been done, no refund was offered and all of the staff were extremely unprofessional. Definitely my worst escape game experience, a shame it had to be with 7 other friends. Please do yourself a favour (save your wallet) and do not go to this escape room. read more

I might be a bit biased because this was my first escape room experience, but an incredible time to kick it off! Firstly, I've heard some escape rooms group you with randoms if you don't fill the max people. I contacted them ahead of time and they said you will be exclusively with your friends, no randoms with you. Great start! Communication was effective and they were quick to respond. We had a group of 6, with half of us being newbies, the other half having done other rooms at other locations. We had some pretty logical minds so we did a medium level room (The Prisoner). It was a GREAT experience. Challenging from the get-go and we only needed one clue to help us on our way, finished with 7.5 minutes to go (out of 60). We had a blast and decided we would leave and come back for another one. We did the most challenging (Diamond Creed) and it WAS a challenge but again, the experience was amazing! There were no bookings behind us so they let us finish and although we needed a few hints, we did complete (just way after time). The interesting thing was that we completed The Prisoner in an unorthodox way but that's the beauty of these rooms is that they weren't linear, in that they were carefully crafted and really need you to put your heads together as a team. Our guests that did other escape rooms said this was one of the more exciting and challenging that they've gone through. Staff was friendly, and very personable and even took the time to chat with us before and after with our questions, and cracked jokes before sending us in. Great time! read more

Came here a few weeks ago with some friends. There were 5 of us. Only I had done an escape room previously, the others were brand new. We did the prison room. The good: - service: 5 out of 5. Staff were super friendly and helpful - location: right at Yonge / Dundas. Can't get much better - props: room was very well designed. The bad: - we had an 8:30pm reservation, but when we arrived it was bumped to 9pm. Not a big deal, though. - experience wasn't all that great. The clues didn't seem to make sense (even in hindsight), some were very subjective and worse of all there is one section within the room that says "not part of game", but ended up being a part of the game. I realize it could have been purposely labelled to trick us, but before going in they warned us that people have broken things in the past and anything marked as not part of the game should be treated as such. This killed our time and made the game not so enjoyable. Me and friends don't have any experience playing in an escape room, so when we came here we were all anxious. We have no idea about the levels or how the game will work, we just booked whatever was available. Soooo then, we got the reservation for the Butcher's Basement. The game was actually nice, we all enjoyed it. The only problem was that the staffs *I think* don't actually fix the room after a group played. When we entered the room, some puzzles were made already. And it was sooo funny, when we asked for a hint, the lady rolled her eyes secretly lol. She's probably thinking about our lack of common sense. All in all, it was fun! We will definitely come back and try the other room read more
