The back office folks were extremely helpful with insurance needs, flexible to her appointments due to school times and always willing to help. The entire team took great care of my daughter and us. l chose Round Rock Orthodontics after he came highly recommended by my dentist. At first, I was excited to see Dr.Gates and have him perfect my smile. After wearing braces for almost a year (next month) I am underwhelmed to say the least. This afternoon, I called because I had a wire that was poking and causing a lot of pain. I was told to be there by 4:10. I arrived at exactly 4:10. I was immediately asked for a card number to cover my next two payments. The next one being due 11/15. Why was this so pressing? I have no idea, i've never missed a payment. After waiting a few minutes, I was called to the back. I explain to the young lady my bracket popped off on the way over. She said okay and asked which tooth. I told her the bottom right and the wire was poking on the bottom left. She says, "oh I see it, we don't want you in pain" and proceeds to cut the wire. She then cuts the exposed wire on the bottom right where the bracket fell off. I ask if she was going to replace it and she says, "no it will be ok until your next appointment". My appointment is November 19th. To keep my cool I replied ok. I walk to the front desk and ask one of the ladies if it was ok to wait until my next appointment to replace my bracket. I knew the answer was no. She says nooo we typically wouldn't suggest that. Let me put you on a will call list. She also says, I wish we could do this for you today but we are so shorthanded. These braces cost $7200. At least that's what I was told during my consultation. All that to say with the current service i've received I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. Definitely explore your options before you take someone else's word. read more

This is by far the best orthodontist that I have taken my son Karter to. They are so nice and patient and takes the time to explain every single step. Normally my son is very shy when going to a new dentist but that was not the case for this office. Ashley takes her time and really cares for my son like he was her own. He enjoys and looks forward to coming to every appointment. There is also a tremendous scheduler at the front desk that is also a MVP. I can't remember her name but when I do I will edit this review. Dr.Gates and his assistants are good and efficient. No issues there. The problem I'm having is with the people at the front desk who manage the appointments. We are late by 10 minutes and had already called ahead telling them we would be late. They were like "no we only have a 10 minute window" . They would not even make an attempt to fit us in. We pay them thousands of dollars for orthodontics and they cannot make reasonable requests Hence the 1 star rating. read more

Today the braces are coming off! My "child" right now is truly getting his braces taken off, teeth cleaned up, etc and THEN we are coming back later to get his retainers fitted. Then....we are done We had three options: non-removable (Bottom, I don't remember about Top) and removable in two styles: first, traditional plastic and metal; second, completely clear-basically Invisalign but for retainers. The last option MUST be removed each and every time you even drink or you may color it...the other one should be removed too, but.... My first child went with completely removable, "traditional style" retainers. That let's her clean her teeth easily-especially after having braces! Almost 6 years after getting the braces off, retainers are faithfully worn as directed-amazing-and teeth are wonderful. Today's child is getting the removable clear style-this will be new to me. We've already discussed the rules (no eating drinking etc with the retainers in!) so hopefully this style will be successful, too. We have been blessed to be with Dr Gates for two kids-from the moment you walk in, to leaving the door we always feel welcome. I'll be very thankful to end this trip (the ONLY WAY it will start again is if I or my husband get braces to redo failings from our youth!) Dr Naples was our oral surgeon, removing completely impacted teeth from both-that welcomed recommendation came from Dr Gates. I had a review but it is lost Look forward to a redo! Thank you to Round Rock Orthodontics, Dr Gates and all the wonderful staff we've seen through the years. My family has been with Dr Gates since 2006. We moved with him from the cute albeit small office off of IH35 near Summit to his existing office: beautiful and spacious but still filled with warm, friendly staff. When Child 1 started with braces, out came the worries. Dr Gates answered all my questions, on "why this? What about that?" as we moved through the process. All staff members helped this mom navigate through a different process (than the one she remembered from.....a long time ago ) and by HS, straight smiles and happy clients abounded. Child 2 had "more complicated teeth" so a spreader occurred early in elementary school....then we waited...and waited...for all adult teeth to come in and braces to get going. In late middle school we started, and things are moving fast! This time I have different questions (the practice GREW and we are interacting with a few new ppl) and once again Dr Gates and his staff are shining through. Now, insurance thinks braces should cost about $1500 or so....I'll say that 1) both of my kids cost more, and 2)Dr Gates costs more in general. But if for some reason we needed a 3rd set of braces (ack) we wouldn't go anywhere else. Our family has been with Dr Gates, his staff, his two offices (!) for over a decade--and don't plan on leaving. read more

As a Dental Hygienist, I see a lot of smiles and I would not go anywhere else for my three kids diverse Orthodontic needs. I have worked with several dentists over the years and Dr. Gates has always been the #1 Orthodontic recommendation from slight correction to complicated-comprehensive ones. I literally have asked my own patients over the years that have had ortho previously, and have a beautiful smile, "did Dr. Gates do your Ortho?" Because his work is flawless..he is a perfectionist. I can spot it every time. Orthodontists are not all equal...I repeat! Recently, it was discovered my own daughter has impacted permanent canines that will require a very detailed treatment plan and coordination with a skilled Oral Surgeon. I am beyond grateful that I have Dr. Gates and his team to guide us through each phase and provide us with reassurance. Over the past few years, Dr. Gates has gone above and beyond to support my unique adult orthodontic journey. I first came to him in an emergency capacity, as something on my braces (installed by an out-of-town office) broke, and I had limited time to fix the problem. He fixed the problem, and educated me so well about the nature of my orthodontic issues that I asked him take over the completion of my ortho work--which he did, accomplishing all of my original goals. Throughout the process, he helped me understand additional options for improving my bite and airway, but was always mindful of my reasons for pursuing the least involved treatments. After my care was complete, I saw him a couple more times, once to get a lost retainer replaced (which he did so promptly), and again for a consult on how to manage my teeth in wake of a recent oral surgery. While he certainly could have made more money by recommending the forms of treatment his office provides, he made a very good case for me to hold off on treatment, and if necessary, pursue treatment options that other offices specialize in. I also want to say that Dr. Gates is an exceptionally knowledgeable doctor. As a scientist myself, I have a pretty high bar for care providers who want to convince me they are an expert in their fields. He understands the precise reasons for the treatments he provides and is intimately familiar with the work other leading professionals in town are doing (all of whom seem to hold him in the highest regard). So many wonderful things to say about this place!! Every single person on the staff is incredibly kind and professional. The office is very clean and well run! The consultation is free. I went in to see what they could do about my jaw pain. I was referred by my dentist here. During the consultation, Dr. Gates comes in and personally goes over everything with you. He takes time to answer your questions. Will took a great deal of time with me to work on the financial end, and ended up helping me settle on payments that were reasonable for my budget. Each step of the way, Dr. Gates and his staff make time just for you. They are incredibly knowledgeable on the latest technology for Orthodontics, and also keep an holistic approach to your individual treatment. I'm 34 years old and have recently gotten braces. I really appreciate the professionalism shown at this office and their help has been beneficial to me getting braces. I am not done with treatment but so far the experience has been great. The only criticism I have is that their staff can be brusque sometimes when starting a procedure. I guess I need hand-holding and explanation of procedures. I've found that Mari is great with me, explaining things and helping me to feel more comfortable. Summer can be quite busy so be prepared for a wait for an appointment if it's summer months. I recommend them if you need braces! read more

Dr Gates delivers consistently late service to my family; everytime we go to see him. We come on time, but he is always at least 30 minutes behind. Today, we show up a few minutes late and his office refuses to allow us to have service--or even work us in, and will only allow us to reschedule. We explained that we had a personal tragedy in the family (family member in the hospital) that delayed us, and they said too bad.... My problem here is that the Doctor is ALWAYS running late and NEVER services us on time. Yet, the one time we are a few minutes late; we are REFUSED---even though we would still have been sitting in the waiting area due to the DR. being late-as he always is. I feel this is hypocritical. We even called to let the office know what was going on. The front desk person was completely unsympathetic and REFUSED to even try to help us. This is very hurtful to us as I am a disabled Veteran and we have to drive more than 30 minutes to get to this hidden location. The treatment we received was unprofessional and VERY unfriendly. This office is AWESOME!!! I would definitely have Dr. Gates be your orthodontist. I have seen kids being treated as well as adults. I brought my son in last week and the entire staff was so friendly and helpful. The treatment coordinator, Will was so knowledgeable and nice. When Dr. Gates did the exam on my son he was so thorough. He checked his health, the health of his mouth and then explained the things my son needed as well as the reasoning behind it. I've been going to Orthodontist and dentist for over 10 years trying to get a gap in my front teeth fixed. Some have helped, others have done more damage than anything, and I have never had a permanent solution. Paul Gates and his staff were totally incredible! Not only were they very affordable and worked hand in hand with my insurance, but they found out exactly what I wanted the end result to be, and tailored everything to my needs. After a year of invisalign, I now have a permanent retainer, and a gorgeous smile! They have seriously been amazing and I would give them 10+ stars if I could!
