I promised myself I would write this review before the end of the year, so here it is! I had a very poor, but formative, experience at Avery Orthodontics. My case was transferred in 2022, but I wanted to complete treatment with another orthodontist and take a mental break before writing this. 1. The sales/mock-up presentation that led me to sign the contract was very different from the treatment that was actually carried out (see photos). I noticed this immediately in the "final" mockup and brought it up. 2. I was told not to worry - that the mock-up "wouldn't look like that in real life." Over time, however, I began to see that it was certainly trending in that direction. And that's all fine. The issue is that it took an excessive amount of effort to get Dr. Barnett to truly listen to and engage with my feedback. At times, I felt dismissed or made to feel unreasonable for raising concerns about my own teeth. I eventually had to learn orthodontic terminology to clearly communicate what I was seeing, and at some point he finally started taking me seriously. Only after a very long, emotionally taxing process and multiple course corrections did things begin to improve. During treatment, I experienced a chipped tooth, went into braces, and incurred significant travel costs flying back to Austin after relocating to Los Angeles. My projected treatment time was 8 months; it ultimately took two-ish years under Dr. Barnett. Toward the end, I decided to transfer my case to another orthodontist. I was happier with the overall direction, communication, and results. The treatment I received at the new orthodontist made the difference in potential care very clear. That said, there was lasting damage. My front teeth now have enamel wear that did not exist prior to treatment, and I recently required a root canal on one of my front teeth under endodontic care (due to orthodontic stress, not hygiene issues). My teeth and enamel were healthy before this process began. This experience was genuinely traumatic, though it also taught me important lessons about self-advocacy as a person and as a patient. Patients often expect doctors to be technical experts but also communicative and attentive. IMPORTANT- The care team and staff were excellent - kind, organized, and professional. They consistently treated me like a human being and were the reason I stayed as long as I did. I see that Dr. Barnett has many positive reviews, and I don't doubt that many patients have had good experiences - especially children whose primary goal is bite correction. However, if you are an adult patient with aesthetic concerns, I would personally recommend an orthodontist who explicitly integrates aesthetic concerns into treatment planning and communication. I have never left a review before, but I feel compelled to share my experience. I would like to begin with the positives. The assistants in the office are very kind, welcoming, and eager to help. They listened carefully to my concerns and even remembered my name after just one visit. Their professionalism and kindness did not go unnoticed. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Barnett was the complete opposite. I initially went in for a removable bottom retainer after my permanent one (which I had for over 25 years) fell off. The assistant created a removable retainer using a scanner, but it never fit properly. I had to return at least three times for adjustments. Each time it was modified, but it continued to fit incorrectly. The retainer was cutting my tongue and the inside of my cheeks and, even more concerning, it began causing my front teeth to shift apart -- creating a gap that I have never had before in my life. On my third visit, Dr. Barnett stated that he did not want me to pay for something that did not work and said he would offer Invisalign instead, comped due to the failed retainer. I made it very clear multiple times that I did not want to pay for another retainer since I had already paid for the first one. He assured me I would not be charged. His assistant was present during this conversation, and when I asked her to confirm what I heard, she stated that she understood the same -- that I would not be charged for Invisalign because the original retainer had failed. At my next appointment, Dr. Barnett attempted to modify the retainer again, further cutting and shaving it down to the point that it had completely lost its integrity. When I calmly mentioned our previous conversation about not being charged for Invisalign, he became visibly upset, stood up, and walked out of the room without saying a word. When he returned, I asked him why he seemed upset. He responded that "everyone expects to get this free." I apologized and assured him I was not trying to offend him -- I was simply referencing what he had previously told me. I chose not to involve his assistant in that moment because I did not want to put her in an uncomfortable position. I left that appointment feeling extremely uncomfortable and never returned. I ultimately had to seek care from another orthodontist and spend $1,000 to correct the gap that developed after wearing the retainer made in his office. Additionally, despite seeing me multiple times, Dr. Barnett never remembered my name and often addressed me incorrectly. While that alone is minor, combined with the overall experience, it reflected a lack of attentiveness and professionalism. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this orthodontist due to concerns regarding communication, professionalism, and integrity. read more

My son had a terrible overbite. I knew he would need braces since he was young but we waited until he was older and decided to go with the Invisalign instead. I wasn't too sure about it at the beginning because I thought Invisalign would not work as well as braces. Boy was I wrong! I am so amazed at the results and I'm so glad we went with the Invisalign instead of braces. Avery orthodontics did an amazing job! I am so pleased with the results. The braces are off and my daughters smile is prettier than ever! If I can gives Avery Orthodontics more stars I would! My daughter (age 13) had her braces on for 1 1/2 years, originally Dr. Barnett gives a time estimate of 1 1/2 - 2 years so everything came off when expected. I don't think I can remember the last time I was so pleased with medical office/business. One thing to note is if your appointment is scheduled at {insert time here} then they WILL see you at {insert time here}. No waiting around as most medical offices will force you do. Only downfall is if you're running more than 15 mins behind as I came close to on 1 or 2 occasions then they will reschedule you. Dr. Barnett and his staff run a great practice! Front office staff are always courteous, helpful and generally lovely. I was never ignored when I went up to the desk, there were never any scheduling or billing issues, and they were very efficient at their jobs. They also always seemed to remember every patient's name from the second they walk through the door. That alone is impressive and makes you feel like you're part of the team/family and not just a patient. DAUGHTER REVIEW (since I didn't go to the back much) the assistants in the back were friendly, competent, and always careful. They were detailed on what I needed to do at home to properly maintain my braces. Throughout the 1 1/2 we had 0 issues with the braces thanks to the supplies and guidance provided from day 1! I typically hate going to get dental work. Let's face it, it sucks and it's painful and it's not fun. This sounds weird but, I actually look forward to going to Avery Ortho. I seriously can't speak more highly of them while I've undergone my Invisalign treatment. Dr. Barnett and his staff have been my favorite business experience ever. Super clear communication, totally honest and during the uncertain pandemic times, were on the ball with balancing safety, communicating and creating a safe environment that I never feel at risk at. My pricing was pretty set by my insurance but I've been extremely satisfied with my treatment. I've never left nodding confused with anything and the entire staff has been professional, friendly and remember like small things you've talked about. It's almost alarming in a good way, just because it's such a different experience than I'm used to. I drive 20 minutes to Avery and I'd drive an hour if I had to; seriously, there's nobody better. A very late review... I went to Avery Orthodontics and went through the invisalign treatment. Took about two years or so, which will vary depending on the situation. The office has always been super welcoming and positive. Dr Barnett was great to work with and always honest through out the treatment to ensure desired results were obtained. My teeth now after all this are great now, no more embarrassment of smiling or any of that. Just recently I visited their new office to obtain some retainers. My insurance (HSA) ended up being a little difficult so I have been in contact with Avery Orthodontics to resolve the issues. Everyone I exchanged emails with helped and guided me through the process of getting my insurance debacle cleared up. Another HUGE thanks. 5 Star treatment! read more

Dr. Barnett and his staff are very pleasant and personable, when available. I am commenting here to let you know of my experience with scheduling appointments and the timeliness, sometimes, of appointments. If you have a student with a busy and/or heavy academic schedule - or you, yourself have a schedule that is not always predictable 6 to 8 weeks (or more) in advance - you're probably going to have scheduling problems. I've had a couple of times now when I've tried 4 to 5 weeks in advance to schedule a later-afternoon appointment, with a choice of 3 to 4 possible days around 3:00 PM in the afternoon, and they've already been booked out. When I began to realize we were having a difficult time getting an appointment scheduled within the time frame recommended by Dr. Barnettt (unfortunately after we'd paid the large deposit up front and my son already had his braces on) - I asked about this. The woman that schedules their appointments (who, by the way, has always been patient and polite - this is not a general rant against Avery Orthodontics) that if you want a morning or later-afternoon appointment - you need to be able to schedule 6 - 8 weeks in advance - otherwise, they're booked. Also, a couple of times we've had to wait for about fifteen minutes past our scheduled appointment time because Dr. Barnett was busy with a new patient consult. If existing patients are having to wait past time for their scheduled appointment because you're considering taking on another patient - well, I wonder if Dr. Barnett's practice is a bit overextended. We are only about seven months into orthodontic treatment, so can't really speak much to the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment, and, again, I don't have any huge complaints about Dr. Barnett, personally, or his staff. Just putting it out there that if your schedule (or your child's schedule) is not particularly open and/or predictable at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance, you're probably going to have trouble scheduling an appointment within the optimal time frame for treatment. read more

Dr. Barnett and his staff are the kindest and gentlest group of people! I started out with a different orthodontist - we shall call him "He who cannot be named." That Ortho was curt, unkind and favored extreme practices that made my daughter uncomfortable. In fact, she cried whenever we had to go for an office visit. After Phase 1 with that man, I knew I couldn't go back. I found Dr. Barnett through a friend in Round Rock ISD. The atmosphere was completely different! They understood my daughter's anxiety and did whatever they could to alleviate it. No one ever got angry with her or made her feel fearful. There were no more tears - she actually liked going to appointments! I take my son there now. I'm glad that he never had a bad experience. My daughter goes to Avery Orthodontics and we have been very happy with Dr Barnett and his staff. They are very patient with the kids and use positive reinforecment to encourage good habits while in braces. My daughter's bite is really bad so she breaks brackets often. They have been professjonal about repairing them and not making her feel like she's causing them extra work. They are quick! Dont expect to settle in to catch up on magazine reading! We are going through braces with a second child at Avery Orthodontics. We are very happy with the practice. We never have a problem getting an appointment that fits in our schedule. After being told of the worst case scenario for our older daughter, the most radical thing she endured with her braces was rubber bands. I am so appreciative that Dr. Barnett was able to get her through braces that fixed her teeth and jaw without headgear or any other drastic measures, but she was also able to have them removed in under 2 years. Our youngest daughter seems to be moving quickly as well. I am very grateful for this because another orthodontist drew out our oldest child's braces for longer than seemed necessary. We first saw Dr. Barnett several years ago about getting braces for our daughter. He recommended that we wait for her teeth to come in a bit more before doing anything. About 18 months ago, her teeth were ready to go! Dr. Barnett was very patient and attentive in explaining the entire process to us and our daughter. Dr. Barnett was there for every checkup and accommodated several short notice schedule changes. Sherri was amazing and made sure that our daughter got "seasonal" colored rubber bands which turned her braces into a fashion statement. Our family dentists referred to this Avery Orthodontics for my son. First visit was for evaluation and estimate. We met with Dr. Barnett, he explained treatment plan and how my son's teeth will be after treatment and his staff gave us estimate after working with my dental insurance. Treatment continued more than one year. They showed me my son how they assured me in the initial visit. This office is very clean and neat and great staff. Whenever we called them for any unplanned appointment they worked very positively for setting up appointment and take care of problem. This is very important while taking treatment for kids. If required and if we want to see Doctor to ask any questions we could do that. Finally, Dr. Barnett is very nice person and he has a lot of patience. I recently finished 10 months in upper and lower braces and could not have asked for better results. I suffered from grinding so bad that I bit through a custom mouth guard and was told by my dentist that I needed my whole bite straightened out to help the problem. I went to Dr. Barnett as I already knew how amazing he and his staff were from the treatment my kids had received. The staff are very courteous and helped us out, after my daughter lost her retainers 2 times.. There wasn't a wait time, and I was seen at my appointment time. I am very happy with how the entire procedure followed through from the initial appointment, through the 18 +months we were going. I was anxious hearing other experiences, that once the first few appointments were done, that the staff would become negligent with us, but they were very courteous and engaging all through the duration there. so, I am going to take my son to Dr.Barnett this year after he turns 10. read more
