    Ken W.

I had orthodontics as a teen and young adult but lost my retainer about 15 years ago (I'm 36 now). My teeth started to shift over the years, especially the bottom ones, and so I knew I had to do something to remedy it because it was getting progressively worse. [If you've already done your research and just want to know why I chose Wildflower, skip to last paragraph.] I went to a few dentists and orthodontists to get some estimates and evaluations. One dentist (who happens to be quite good for general dentistry) said they could do Invisalign and treatment would be for a year. Another orthodontist never called back to let me know their proposal. A few others I called did not use the Damon System of braces and wires but instead used the traditional ones. I went to Wildflower Orthodontics and they took their time with me and went through all the options with me. So I did my research and found out a few things along the way from everyone. An orthodontists is a specialist who has undergone special training in a dental school or college after they have graduated in dentistry (Wikipedia). While I think it's fine if a general dentist offers Invisalign, I want the best and someone who specializes in what they do. What if there are complications? You'd probably get referred to an orthodontist to fix it. A general dentist has so many emergencies and complications, what if I need to get in because of my orthodontia? Would they be able to accommodate me or would root canals be a higher priority? These are all things I asked myself and I'm glad I did because I think I made a thoughtful and practical decision to choose Wildflower. The other factor that played a part was the Damon System. Let me just tell you that after experiencing traditional wires and brackets that had tiny little rubber bands around each bracket, the Damon System was far easier on me and my visits. When it came to change out my wires at my ortho visits, it was so quick because it's a little gate on each bracket that holds the wire in place...and no, they never opened up on me unintentionally. I remember when I was young how the traditional braces would have those little rubber bands fall off and having to go in to get it fixed. It didn't happen a whole lot but it did happen. The Damon braces seemed to me to be more clean because there was less places for food particles to get stuck and also just looked nicer. I also learned that the Damon braces can apply force in more directions than traditional braces or Invisalign. When my 5-year-old son gets braces, I will insist on these braces without a doubt based on my experience with both. Why not Invisalign? I just didn't want to be tempted to not use my trays as they call them. I've seen people take them off at meals at restaurants and it just didn't look very hygienic. Plus, I thought I'd run the risk of losing them. I also didn't want it to affect my speech, as I've heard people with them on have their speech affected. I have heard they are less expensive and many general dentists offer them but I wanted a tried and true method from an expert who specializes in aligning teeth. Why Wildflower Orthodontics vs. other options? They were so professional with me and courteous. They took the time to not only take x-rays during my consultation but they also took pictures of my teeth. No other place did that (take pictures). They were very transparent with their cost and options for billing. I thought their price was fair but more than anything, they have the expertise. Of all the other places I visited or called during my scouting, they were the ONLY ones to follow up. My whole treatment experience there was great. They were always punctual in taking me in for my appointment. Dr. Giasi and Kristyn always listened to my concerns during the treatment and implemented my requests. Everyone in the office was respectful and courteous. This one time, I had a wire that was irritating my cheek and they quickly accommodated me the next day. 2 years later, my teeth are perfect again!

Nice office. Free tea and coffee :)

Today the braces are coming off! My "child" right now is truly getting his braces taken off, teeth…read morecleaned up, etc and THEN we are coming back later to get his retainers fitted. Then....we are done We had three options: non-removable (Bottom, I don't remember about Top) and removable in two styles: first, traditional plastic and metal; second, completely clear-basically Invisalign but for retainers. The last option MUST be removed each and every time you even drink or you may color it...the other one should be removed too, but.... My first child went with completely removable, "traditional style" retainers. That let's her clean her teeth easily-especially after having braces! Almost 6 years after getting the braces off, retainers are faithfully worn as directed-amazing-and teeth are wonderful. Today's child is getting the removable clear style-this will be new to me. We've already discussed the rules (no eating drinking etc with the retainers in!) so hopefully this style will be successful, too. We have been blessed to be with Dr Gates for two kids-from the moment you walk in, to leaving the door we always feel welcome. I'll be very thankful to end this trip (the ONLY WAY it will start again is if I or my husband get braces to redo failings from our youth!) Dr Naples was our oral surgeon, removing completely impacted teeth from both-that welcomed recommendation came from Dr Gates. I had a review but it is lost Look forward to a redo! Thank you to Round Rock Orthodontics, Dr Gates and all the wonderful staff we've seen through the years. My family has been with Dr Gates since 2006. We moved with him from the cute albeit small office off of IH35 near Summit to his existing office: beautiful and spacious but still filled with warm, friendly staff. When Child 1 started with braces, out came the worries. Dr Gates answered all my questions, on "why this? What about that?" as we moved through the process. All staff members helped this mom navigate through a different process (than the one she remembered from.....a long time ago ) and by HS, straight smiles and happy clients abounded. Child 2 had "more complicated teeth" so a spreader occurred early in elementary school....then we waited...and waited...for all adult teeth to come in and braces to get going. In late middle school we started, and things are moving fast! This time I have different questions (the practice GREW and we are interacting with a few new ppl) and once again Dr Gates and his staff are shining through. Now, insurance thinks braces should cost about $1500 or so....I'll say that 1) both of my kids cost more, and 2)Dr Gates costs more in general. But if for some reason we needed a 3rd set of braces (ack) we wouldn't go anywhere else. Our family has been with Dr Gates, his staff, his two offices (!) for over a decade--and don't plan on leaving.

So to be fair in a review you should really get to know the company before you put anything in writing. That being said, I decided it was time to give some praise to a group that truly deserves it. The group at Smile Doctors is truly amazing. I've been going there and interacting with the staff there for a long time now and I can tell you with full honesty that you won't find a finer group of people. Dr. De La Fuente and his staff are very professional yet they manage to maintain an atmosphere that feels fun and vibrant. Full of positive energy! I love going there and seeing everyone. I will call out my favorite dental assistant...shout out to Fabian! Your energy and enthusiasm is infectious (in a good way!). You always brighten my day. Just what patients need when we are nervous and going in. But all of the staff are this way. You can tell the staff all enjoy working there and that says a lot. This is a very scary time with the pandemic but the office is very cautious and pays close attention to the social distancing and other guidelines. Of course this is everyone's responsibility right now but offices such as these really have to take the time to protect their patients and staff and you can tell they do care. I appreciate all of the precautions I see them take every time I've been there. Dr. De La Fuente and his staff work out of two locations, one on Deep Wood Dr in Round Rock and another off of Hwy 183 in Austin. Regardless of which location you go to you are going to; 1 - get an amazing top-notch orthodontist working to get you the best smile, 2 - get that best smile at probable the best rate, 3 - meet some of the nicest staff you'll ever meet. I promised myself I would write this review before the end of the year, so here it is!…read more I had a very poor, but formative, experience at Avery Orthodontics. My case was transferred in 2022, but I wanted to complete treatment with another orthodontist and take a mental break before writing this. 1. The sales/mock-up presentation that led me to sign the contract was very different from the treatment that was actually carried out (see photos). I noticed this immediately in the "final" mockup and brought it up. 2. I was told not to worry - that the mock-up "wouldn't look like that in real life." Over time, however, I began to see that it was certainly trending in that direction. And that's all fine. The issue is that it took an excessive amount of effort to get Dr. Barnett to truly listen to and engage with my feedback. At times, I felt dismissed or made to feel unreasonable for raising concerns about my own teeth. I eventually had to learn orthodontic terminology to clearly communicate what I was seeing, and at some point he finally started taking me seriously. Only after a very long, emotionally taxing process and multiple course corrections did things begin to improve. During treatment, I experienced a chipped tooth, went into braces, and incurred significant travel costs flying back to Austin after relocating to Los Angeles. My projected treatment time was 8 months; it ultimately took two-ish years under Dr. Barnett. Toward the end, I decided to transfer my case to another orthodontist. I was happier with the overall direction, communication, and results. The treatment I received at the new orthodontist made the difference in potential care very clear. That said, there was lasting damage. My front teeth now have enamel wear that did not exist prior to treatment, and I recently required a root canal on one of my front teeth under endodontic care (due to orthodontic stress, not hygiene issues). My teeth and enamel were healthy before this process began. This experience was genuinely traumatic, though it also taught me important lessons about self-advocacy as a person and as a patient. Patients often expect doctors to be technical experts but also communicative and attentive. IMPORTANT- The care team and staff were excellent - kind, organized, and professional. They consistently treated me like a human being and were the reason I stayed as long as I did. I see that Dr. Barnett has many positive reviews, and I don't doubt that many patients have had good experiences - especially children whose primary goal is bite correction. However, if you are an adult patient with aesthetic concerns, I would personally recommend an orthodontist who explicitly integrates aesthetic concerns into treatment planning and communication. I will edit later with photos.

I have never left a review before, but I feel compelled to share my experience…read more I would like to begin with the positives. The assistants in the office are very kind, welcoming, and eager to help. They listened carefully to my concerns and even remembered my name after just one visit. Their professionalism and kindness did not go unnoticed. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Barnett was the complete opposite. I initially went in for a removable bottom retainer after my permanent one (which I had for over 25 years) fell off. The assistant created a removable retainer using a scanner, but it never fit properly. I had to return at least three times for adjustments. Each time it was modified, but it continued to fit incorrectly. The retainer was cutting my tongue and the inside of my cheeks and, even more concerning, it began causing my front teeth to shift apart -- creating a gap that I have never had before in my life. On my third visit, Dr. Barnett stated that he did not want me to pay for something that did not work and said he would offer Invisalign instead, comped due to the failed retainer. I made it very clear multiple times that I did not want to pay for another retainer since I had already paid for the first one. He assured me I would not be charged. His assistant was present during this conversation, and when I asked her to confirm what I heard, she stated that she understood the same -- that I would not be charged for Invisalign because the original retainer had failed. At my next appointment, Dr. Barnett attempted to modify the retainer again, further cutting and shaving it down to the point that it had completely lost its integrity. When I calmly mentioned our previous conversation about not being charged for Invisalign, he became visibly upset, stood up, and walked out of the room without saying a word. When he returned, I asked him why he seemed upset. He responded that "everyone expects to get this free." I apologized and assured him I was not trying to offend him -- I was simply referencing what he had previously told me. I chose not to involve his assistant in that moment because I did not want to put her in an uncomfortable position. I left that appointment feeling extremely uncomfortable and never returned. I ultimately had to seek care from another orthodontist and spend $1,000 to correct the gap that developed after wearing the retainer made in his office. Additionally, despite seeing me multiple times, Dr. Barnett never remembered my name and often addressed me incorrectly. While that alone is minor, combined with the overall experience, it reflected a lack of attentiveness and professionalism. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this orthodontist due to concerns regarding communication, professionalism, and integrity.
