We attended the margarita fest with the Spazmatics and I was grateful it was only $10 to park instead of the usual $20. Outdoor venues in the Texas summer are tricky as is...summers here are brutal and they definitely need more shady areas. I felt bad for the performers who were directly in the sun. We would have benefitted from more stand up tables in the shady areas off to the sides. Cons: No matter what event, you're going to end up paying for parking. The signage to enter the venue from the highway was not great. We ended up following other cars to find our way there since the access road entry was blocked off. Also, the lines to the bar were not long so I'm confused why it took so long to get through the line. The pros: nice newer venue with a big stage and a good sound system. Lots of space and good grass to set out a blanket and relax. The margaritas at the fest were delicious! My fave was the watermelon. read more

This is our second time at Round Rock Amp and I gotta say it's not bad. Is traffic in and out a logistical cluster? Yes. Is it a big open field next to a shopping area? Also yes. Both times we've enjoyed the music and lucked out with the weather. The first time, we purchased "seats" and honestly it was not worth it. Chairs are zip tied together and you feel like sardines next to strangers. Much prefer the open "seating" of general admission which basically means find an open patch of grass. Several bars and food trucks available if you need something, but not exactly where I'd plan meal if you're looking for healthy choices. You can pay extra for the VIP section and get a dedicated bathroom area and bar and the area IS closer to the stage but I've not felt it was necessary to have an enjoyable evening. If you get there early enough, there are picnic tables under the trees but we've never made it that early to snag. All in all, it's a great place up north for some outdoor entertainment... at least until summer hits and everything outside is miserable. read more

I finally made my way out to a sold-out country music show at the Round Rock Amp (RRA) to see Lainey Wilson in what will likely be her last non-arena show for the foreseeable future. Atta girl, Lainey! We had a great time at RRA, but I'll issue some cautions for future visits. There are quite a few logistical challenges with this venue, with gridlocked traffic and long waits for EVERYthing. VIP tickets help a bit, but can't save you from the impossible waits for food. Whatever you do, make sure you have a full belly before you arrive and keep a hidden protein bar in your boot. Most of all, put on your patience cloak and go with the flow. Note, this listing is for "Round Rock Amp," (RRA) NOT "Round Rock Amphitheatre," a totally different, smaller venue in a different part of town. This tree-lined, grass-covered, 18-acre outdoor concert venue in the former McNeil Park opened in April 2022 and is managed by the same team behind the original iconic Nutty Brown Amphitheatre in southwest Austin (RIP). It's located directly southwest of the J.C. Penney in the IKEA shopping center off University & Mays in Round Rock, very near the IH35 - 1431 exit. Tickets are typically sold through Eventbrite and you can easily add the QR code to your smartphone wallet or just bring them up on the EB app. Most events are all ages with standing pit, reserved folding seats on the center lawn, general admission in the back, and 2 levels of standing VIP tickets on the sides at prices ranging from $35 to $300+. Artist pre-sales are typically available through the artist fan clubs and the best tickets will sell out during pre-sale. Join the RRA mailing list and follow RRA on Eventbrite to get advanced notice of general ticket sales. About 80% of the shows so far fall into the Country category, but they have also hosted some rap/hip hop, and rock shows. VIP tickets get you a much shorter security line at entry, access to more shade, less tightly packed crowds, air-conditioned restrooms with hand-washing, and a dedicated bar. There are at least 2 levels, VIP Grove (northeast side, closest to the entry gates) and the VIP Beer Garten (southwest side, with better afternoon shade), and prices can go up if you add artist meet & greet experiences. The VIP areas have no reserved seating but if you arrive early, you can snag one of the limited number of picnic tables or standing cocktail tables closer to the stage. We chose to stand close to the fence toward the stage in VIP Grove and had excellent viewing, with no problem moving around during the event to visit the bar, restroom, merch tables, and food vendors. Speaking of food.... This was our biggest frustration at RRA. They need to double or triple the number of vendors of food, and offer some pre-packaged options with a faster turn-around time. It's very unsafe to be serving endless alcohol in the heat without easy access to food. The entire back half grove of the venue is for people in snaking lines trying to access food, and these lines are a twisted mess with no venue staff or markers assisting with keeping the flow moving. We tried 4 times to get something to eat, finally succeeding on the 4th try at 9:30p and missing 30-40 minutes of the concert to do so. Take a cue from C3, RRA team, and fully line that back fence with a solid row of food vendors, then provide some crowd management to keep the lines organized and moving. Parking is $20 cash per car and can put you into a slow-moving quagmire at both entry and exit. Using rideshare has its own challenges, since there's no ideal drop-off/pick-up point that avoids the self-parking traffic. Your best bet is to get a kind friend or family member to drop you off as close as possible to Mays & Oakmont then walk over. Wear comfy shoes for walking & standing, because you'll be doing that for 4-5 hours. A word on pricing... like everything else these days, prices are high at RRA. Beyond the cost of tickets and parking, you can expect to spend at least $40 per adult for drinks (beers around $15-17 each), another $20-30 for food, and add on another $40 if you want a souvenir t-shirt. Check RRA's social media feed on the date of your event for last minute instructions about times of opening for parking and venue gates. For our Friday night show, parking opened at 4:30p, with gates at 6p and music by opening acts starting at 7:15p. Typical security prohibitions are in place: no chairs, umbrellas, outside food or drink, etc. You *can* bring in an empty water bottle. Easy to find-good directions and well marked. $20 cash parking but plenty of space. Unpaved and unmarked. I have no sense of direction so I wandered around the lot until everyone else had left. I followed the crowd to the gate where there were a couple of lines. I picked the slower one just as I do at the market. The guy wanding my lane could have used some espresso. The staff inside was friendly and helpful. The seats were tight but no one was seated during the show. They use Eventbrite ticketing. There is a large grass area in the back and blankets are permitted. It's far from the stage and reminded me of ACLFEST where I'm usually standing that far away. The sound system was on point and the lights were used effectively as opposed to hitting my eyes which is so painful for me. The total experience was pleasant and I'm ready to repeat when and if it ever cools down. read more

Round Rock Amp is such a total vibe. It's open, clean, and plenty of room to dance all night long. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The stage is very large and has screens depending on the performer. The sound system is also really great. They have parking in the back of the venue, and someone is always out there watching over the vehicles. They do have food vendors and a couple of bars. If you want a seated experience, check out the Beer Garden section or the Grove. They have picnic table seating over there along with some free tables. If you purchase a general admission ticket you can bring a blanket or throw to sit on the ground. With the artist they have brought in the last 2 years staying seated was not an option for me and my friends. I really like that this spot is outside of Austin, affordable, and goes out their way to make sure the customer is happy. Bonus is you can smoke or vape with no issues. read more

This is a solid 4-star rating based on our experience attending the Robert Earl Keen concert. I did receive a few "heads up" from a colleague who attended a previous concert. We purchased seats just behind the pit which had perfect viewability. I don't understand purchasing tickets so close to the stage (in the pit) as you are looking up and can't see anything beyond the front of the stage. The seats are just cheap folding chars attached to the adjacent seats via tie wraps. There is ample legroom. They will need to update the grounds as the sand/grass will not hold up due to traffic and weather. They should also pitch the grade better similar to movie theatres. Parking is $20 CASH only. Pro Tip you can park for free behind the JC Penny and by the bank. It's a 2-minute walk to the entrance and it only took us 20 minutes to drive home RR - Leander! There were others tailgating outside the venue where they could somewhat see the act but could definitely hear the music. The sound system, from our seats, was great and the stage is large enough to accommodate a large act or even a play. Concessions: I would like to see more food options. There was a good BBQ trailer and my brisket sandwich was reasonably priced and filled the void. There was another trailer that specialized in fried stuff like seasoned fries which was also popular. Drinks were expensive but that's par for the course at these events. If you have ever been to a game at Jerry-World in Dallas you know what I mean. However, this is RR so they should take that into consideration. If you arrive early and have purchased seats you will be in the sun until sundown and it is hot! If you purchase GA tickets bring a blanket to sit on before the concert begins as there is absolutely no place to sit even if you purchase food. How about adding picnic tables near the concession stands! We had a great time and would attend future events and hopefully there is an improvement plan in place as RR Amp moves forward. read more

Extremely disappointed! Was very hopeful this venue was going to be the best thing to come to Round Rock, but unfortunately not impressed with the customer service or how they handled their "grand opening." Ok, so here's my review after actually visiting this place. So first, I bought tickets to April 2nd because this was advertised by THE VENUE as the GRAND OPENING. But after we bought our tickets we found out that they did a "2nd night" the night before. Now, I'm not a mathematician, but I'm pretty sure if you have a night before that's not the 2nd night? So, I emailed, called, and tried to find out if there was anyway I could switch my tickets. The venue never responded until I posted a review. Then they told me they would help, but 4 hours later told me that I could buy new tickets for a minimum of what I spent for Saturday and that they would refund my Saturday tickets, so basically spend $150+ on frinday to get a refund for my $150 on Saturday, but they also told me they didn't have any 4 packs available so I'd have to pay full price for my 4 seats. We ended up keeping our Saturday tickets. Ok, now for the venue. We took a Lyft to the venue. There were no photos, nothing so we were just blind going into it. When the Lyft got up to the venue we weren't able to turn into the parking lot cause it was closed off. Wish we would have got an email or something saying, "just get dropped off at panda express." We waited for about 20 minutes to get through the line to get in and when we finally got to the front they went from the 2 lines they had at security to 3. Should have had 4-5 lines open in my opinion. The floor was insane. Wearing boots was a mistake, but for a country concert I would have expected better. They didn't level the ground. There were areas that were sod with holes under it so you would step and twist your ankle, the parts that weren't sod were wood chips, but not like garden wood chips, like they cut down trees and just left the biggest branches to save money. The whole venue was flat for seating, so I could see just as good about mid seating as the 5th row could have. The seating was just basic plastic folding chairs. The alcohol prices were insane and a couple drinks here was more than the cost of a normal date night bar hopping out in Downtown Round Rock. $15 + tax + tip ended up being over $20 for one tall can of Bud Light. I've been to backyard concerts in college that were more organized. There were 1000+ people and only 30ish porter potty's which had hundreds of people waiting to use. I'd say in all of my years of going to various shows in multiple states & cities, as well as the old Nutty Brown Cafe location that this venue was worse than a packed house party show in someone's kitchen and I would not pay more than $10 for a ticket going forward. I am not sure where to put this review, as it is for both the Round Rock/Austin Taco & Margarita Festival (which does not have a Yelp page), as well as the venue, which put this on and swindled a whole lot of people into attending an overcrowded, ill conceived event. My friend recommended buying advanced tickets to this festival, which sounded fun. Who doesn't like tacos and margs, right? I don't believe there was any mention of where the festival would be -- I assumed it would be a strolling situation in downtown Round Rock. Wrong. It was to be at this new venue, Round Rock Amp, which no one had heard of. My first clue that this wasn't going to be good was a quick look at a map -- along with several messages from the venue immediately prior to the event alerting us that parking would be sparse and pricy ($20), and that we should consider rideshare. Upon seeing where it was, smooshed in between IKEA and I-35 in an already crowded shopping plaza on a Saturday afternoon, we should have turned right around then and there. Still, we had purchased $15 tickets to this festival, so we soldiered on. Disaster was an understatement. Someone on Facebook equated it to Fyre Fest, and they were not wrong. The weather was super hot and muggy that day, there was hardly any shade to be found, and LONG lines of people waiting for tacos -- both to purchase the tacos, and then to wait for the preparation of the tacos. I didn't even see any margaritas. Apparently there was a wrestling ring set up for pro wrestling? There was also an oversized stage for live music. Everywhere there were inexplicably HUGE chunks of woodchips. I read that someone had fallen and twisted their ankle on them --that did not surprise me, those woodchips were like small tree trunks randomly scattered on the ground. And that was the extent of the Taco & Margarita Festival. We left after 10 minutes. I noticed that I wasn't the only one incredibly disappointed in this event, judging by the amount of feedback on Facebook. I have asked for my money back (doubt that will happen), and I will do whatever I can to spread the word about how poorly executed this was, hopefully to save someone some time next year, if they decide to put it on again. read more

Round Rock Amp: Margarita and Food Fest Expensive and no live music - i.e., no "Fest" - during our 2:30-3:30 PM visit to a noon to 7 PM event. Pre-purchased tickets were $15 plus $5 in convenience fees. Parking costs $20 with a cash only requirement. And yes, we should have visited the website of this venue that is easily confused with the Round Rock Amphitheater near downtown. So, for $60+ a couple could park in the dirt, buy a margarita for $11 and a beer for $9, walk around a flat grass field, gaze at an impressive but empty stage, and have access to food trucks. Absolutely the worst music venue I've ever been to. Last night was my third time to go. Why am I so pissed off? 1. The ticket fees are pretty close as much as the ticket. 2. They have a huge parking area in a field adjacent to the venue. They oversold parking capacity for the event. It was blocked off a little before 8 pm and we had to park at a shopping center and walk to the venue. 3. No consistency in venue seating for musical performances. Lee Brice GA area in the pit had seating. The rows were marked GA. Last night that same area was standing room only. It's flat ground. There's no rise in the seating anywhere. 4. No crowd control. People were blocking the aisles everywhere. I could go on and on, but I won't. Suffice it to say I will never be returning to this venue. Not worth the money for the ticket. read more

Round Rock Amp We were in the VIP Grove section. Bar and bathrooms for our section only. There were several picnic tables on a FCFS basis. Lots of standing room. Thank goodness for the trees! It was hot in August!! We were able to stay in the shade the whole time because we weren't concerned about being right up front. The tables are under the trees. The standing area was nice grass. There was one food truck and one carnival eats (corn dogs/nachos). Alcoholic drinks started at $12 and went up quick. We had a good time and would do it again but not in summer. read more

Don't move near it unless you want to be kept up late every Friday night with your house rattling from the bass for hours on end. My parents live in Round Rock and I'm so glad I moved out before this disaster was built. Friday nights were when I got to unwind from the school week and I'm autistic so the bass is literally bad for my health. I can't even stand to visit my family when shows are going on. Makes me scared to ever buy my own house in case a structure like this is built near it and I have to move. read more

Terribly disappointed with our last trip here. We understand rain or shine though when lightning and thunder are going to make the venue halt activities for 1.5 hours (waiting for the weather to pass and nothing is going on) and then you start a show, only for it to start raining and lightning flashing, when the performances could've continued and finished as expected during that interim time, it's a shame. At least the grounds didn't get ridiculously mucked up for the amount of rain and traffic passing through it. Shame this is what's happened to Nutty Brown. read more

The artist was great & put on an amazing show, but the venue needs improvement. The parking is ridiculously far, and should be included in what you pay for your ticket, not an additional cash fee, considering you have to hunt to find it with no lights to see the sign and walk a half mile to get to the entrance. There's absolutely no shade where the seats are and a huge row of porta potty's clear on the other side of the venue that you're likely to roll your ankle on trying to walk to. The design was poorly thought out, rushed and just thrown together. Huge mulch covers areas where you have to be extremely careful when walking, because it includes chunks of branches that even with the best shoes you're likely to step wrong & hurt yourself. I would only return here if I absolutely couldn't find the artist somewhere else & really wanted to see them. Overall...a poorly designed, rushed job, with no lighting for customers to see where they're walking, no shade, ridiculous parking with no visible signs that you could easily pass up trying to find, overpriced parking & beer. AND could they really not think of a better name that wasn't pretty much identical to another just down the road? read more

Not to be done in the Hot summer months. Limited refreshment (more alcohol than sensible options for the public) and too high priced . An unhealthy menu of items and soaring prices fir many a fried and non-fulfilling "food"with the added exorbitant parking fee which is fair but not convenient. Flimsy, plastic, unstable fold up chairs zipped together without any shade or accessible grounds not filled with ants. The price for seating is less than the accommodations. There are options to bring a blanket to seat in the back; which gets quite crowded and no views with all standing for performances. It is okay that doors open early, yet very limited merchandise or vendors to keep your interest band joining Re-entry to go back to your vehicle to sit in better comfort than baking in the sun or eaten by ants on the ground ( I would have preferred artificial turf). It us not surprising to see outside cars parked behind the stores; outside the marked parking/gates--within ear shot to get "free access" listening to music. A major disappointment, the porta-poddy that have non-reliabls lighting to the public. Only two access points: if you are in Vip(picnic tables to the right if the flimsy chairs with a small handful for their use only(best to add accessibility to the disabled also) and the second, in the far far walk away from the seating, the "food", the refreshments. A welcome bit was the cold water tank to get the only "fred" water ($4 bottles-yikes). Plenty of trash cans and regulated direction, once all are seated at their seats, but it would have been great to have misters sprayi g water to the overheated public. If would be humane to allow the public to bring in their own tiny coolers with only water. It was a one time experience recommendation, yet not a repeat (for me-unless a rare time in the future). read more

If I could give it zero stars I would! This is beyond the worst venue to go to a concert. From a sold out show to parking lot full and a grid lock to find parking elsewhere and no one there to help control traffic was the worst! Then once you get into the show and it starts there are crowds of people everywhere with no aisles so if you leave your seat to go to the bathroom good luck coming back to your seat cause everyone in the lawn area will block you and not let you past them! The tipping point was that Lainey Wilson finally comes on after a long wait and then they don't project her on the screen so even though we had seats I couldn't see her! If you have a choice don't go until they get safety concerns fixed! I am so bummed cause it's so close to home and wanted to love this place but nope not again! read more

There are two venues with the same name that are miles away from each other. Poor marketing and confusing. Venue is hard to find, parking is gross, and $20 cash only. Inside is bland, poorly designed, gigantic stage, no rest area for non-VIP. Don't go if it rains. Sound is awful, and doesn't capture the artists true sound. VIP is lame and overpriced. Not worth it and no different from any other area. $14 for can beer? Terrible venue, but somehow they book shows. Just go sit at JC Penny and listen for free. read more

I'm not sure who came up with the brilliant idea to have a "Round Rock Amphitheater" and a "Round Rock Amp" - but it was not a good one. If you're not familiar with the area, and the fact that there are two venues with basically the same name, it's easy to end up at the wrong location. The address given for IH 35 is closed for access, so then you're left driving around aimlessly until you find a way to get in to the venue. We went up on a Friday night to see a concert from South Austin and just ended up going back home out of sheer frustration - never even finding the venue. Don't plan to revisit either - luckily Austin has enough music venues that you can find much easier than this place. read more

I'd hardly consider this an amphitheater. It's all flat, no incline seating like the word amphitheater would signify.. you're not going to see the stage if you're not tall.. they block off both sides of the stage for vip areas which are the only areas under shady trees so if you don't have tons of money to spend on those vip areas, you're just going to swear to death until the sun goes down. We had pit tickets and it was so loud we couldnt even stand there. Then we went back to the lawn and couldn't see anything. Very disappointed that iconic Nutty Brown turned into this.. after all the delays I was sure they were going to make something worth going to.. I'll continue to visit other venues like COTA and Haute Spot.. and skip this one ... awful! Oh and $30 parking to park on the grass... don't waste your money. read more

I can't TELL you how excited we were to have a good live music venue so close and with the folks from Nutty Brown running the joint we anticipated a good time. Especially given that this COULD be a beautiful spot to watch a show with a big stage surrounded by trees (think the old Backyard). Not so much. We paid extra to be in the pit so we could have seating, but the seats were zip tied so close to each other that everyone in the row had to take turns breathing. Seriously the chairs were the plastic fold up kind which is not a problem, but I am not a big guy and neither is my wife nor were the people around us big people, but I had to squeeze my shoulders together to sit down. The fella next to me was tapping his foot on top of my foot and leaning on me (not the venue's fault except he had no choice if he wanted to talk to the person next to him or he would risk a serious neck injury)...that's how close the seats are. The venue will need to repaint the chair legs after every show from them scraping together. WE decided to stand in back, still in our designated area, when barney came up and told us we had to sit down in our seats. I told him I'd rather leave than be stuck in what is essentially a cattle car with seats. Then, $20 to park?! That might be something you want to let folks know BEFORE the day of the show not the day of. Unless things change we'll sit in the parking lot of panda express nearby and listen from there or pull up the artist's music and listen at home. damn shame. hope they fix it. read more
