Before I got here, I decided to read through quite a number of reviews and most yelpers like the place, but there are complaints concerning the DJ, music and venue. The interior is basically one big dance floor surrounded by tables, chairs, and three bars. Inside it is dark, cold and loud. There is a DJ booth in the corner, but sometimes the DJ will be standing on the floor with the iPad directing traffic. There is an outside area which has a stage and can also double as a dance floor. There's also a bar, photo booth, gaming machines, and a stage. However, very little of it is covered, so it's best to come after dark. It's also likely you'll be paying a cover charge to get in depending on the day. We got here at 7pm and spent time outside in their patio space, which had a photo booth, "beer" (water) pong, connect four, and cornhole. The 2-step class was well taught, and super playful. This is my third time coming and I love it! I always come for the 7:30pm dance lessons and I love Juan's ability to break things down and then put it all together. He makes it fun, playful, and makes the female dance partners feel really supported and celebrated! That means a lot to me. I'm not historically super great at picking up dance steps but for the first time I am really starting to "get it!" I love this as both a date night and a girls night out location! We came here for Line Dance Tuesday to celebrate a friend's 21st birthday and were really looking forward to a fun night out. To start on a positive note the place is very clean and the staff was extremely thorough about checking IDs... maybe a little too thorough, and unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. Despite all of us being 21 or older, four members of our group were accused of having "fake IDs" and were denied service. None of us had fake IDs plain and simple. The situation was handled poorly, with staff relying on basic visual checks and no proper tools like a light reader or scanner, which most professional establishments use to verify IDs more accurately. What made things even more confusing was that one bartender did accept a paper ID from one of our friends who had lost her wallet which we appreciated but it's strange that a paper ID was accepted while valid plastic ones were rejected. The inconsistency and lack of proper ID verification led to a frustrating and disappointing night for all of us. I hope this review helps encourage better training and improved ID verification methods in the future. We came for a celebration and left feeling dismissed and embarrassed definitely not the experience we were hoping for. read more

This might look like some hole in the wall dance hall/bar that might be cool. IT ISN'T. It's a super tired crappy joint in a strip mall center that cranks up the outdoor music from 11-2am I guess just for the heck of it because there's usually no one out there. That's probably because It's super loud, extra bass and thumping beat heavy music that can be heard from all of the surrounding neighborhoods. If it could be heard earlier in the evening, I guess I could understand that, but it's not. It literally starts at 11pm or later OUTSIDE where no one is dancing. It's the kind of music and volume that cuts through the brains of its mostly sketchy patrons and kills their hearing and any good judgment they might have left. I wouldn't even care that much if they'd just leave the music indoors instead of blasting it outside for the 5-6 adjacent neighborhoods to hear. I mean, it's a dance hall right? That's what they call themselves. Shouldn't the music be inside near the dance floor? This is not that charming old Texas dance hall that you thought would be fun. It was okay. The dress code for men was a little wild considering the bouncers were going against the codes they enforce. Also the crowd is interesting and most people didn't know how to dance. We took the dancing lessons which were super simple and easy to follow. Make sure to go into it with a light heart as the teacher will make jokes! It's all just for fun. I had a great time at this location. They have an outdoor area with ample seating and they have have large swings. Yes, I know, fun! They are also beer pong tables and plenty of other outdoor games. The interior is two floors and there is ample space for distancing. You have to wear a mask to order, or when walking around. There is also no wait for ordering drinks. Your average dance hall for some country music if you have a day off or are just wanting some weekend fun. The place isn't very big, but there is a nice little outside area to chill or to ride the mechanical bull. I would never do it, but I enjoy the outside bar and the staff is super friendly. They'll ask for ID at the door, but during the week it's no cover for everyone. $5 entry on Friday and Saturday. Lots of dancing and drinks here. Many of the locals come here, as well as many tourists that are visiting the Austin area. I find that people will either go to this one or the Buda location. It seems to be the same thing just depends on where you are. But visitors from all over come here to have a good time. The music mixes up from country to hip hop then back to country almost every night, so there's something for everyone. There aren't any drink specials that I know of. However the domestic drinks are pretty reasonable. Even the hard stuff like Jack and Coke or other alcohol is pretty decent. They have old school tab processes where they hang on to the card so don't forget it! Overall, not a bad place if you feel like getting your country on. I just feel there could be a little more to this place, but I frequent it about a couple of times a month. read more

This post is for the Mavericks in BUDA, TX. I went here on a Friday night recently and I was SO nervous due to COVID, but as soon as I walked up I saw that masks were enforced and I felt a huge sense of relief. The hall wasn't packed, was very spacious, and had a large outside area with good music. It felt like the new normal, a safer normal, and a way that we can keep our clubs open. Their safety protocols were AWESOME. The bar did not allow people just hanging out, the bartenders were wearing either face masks or face shields, and best of all, there was someone walking around making sure that if they were in the dance area that they wore their masks properly. You were not required to wear a mask while sitting down and drinking, similar to a restaurant. I can't express to you all how much safer I felt here than any other place I've been to lately. One of the best clubs I have ever been to. I have traveled all over the US and outside the country, but this place offers Juan & Michelle, best couple and dance instructors ever! Genuine sweethearts to the bone. Mari, queen of the poker table (legal) has this natural gift to lift people up, the ultimate DJ outdoors knows his music...from Tribe, Missy, and Snopp to Pitbull, and new artists. He comes from an amazing music lineage at such a young age. The bartenders are phenomenal: hot mamas are respectable and hold their own and the latino hottie on the patio always aims to pleas. From being a regular due my ex having us take dance lessons from Juan, his childhood best friend, to me shaking my Latina hips to one of the best men I've ever had a blast wish, AND due him proposing in front of all of Mav's...my experience was beyond I could image. The only downfall is that since our surprising break up, I have stopped going and moving out of the area. Thanks for the amazing memories, Mavs! Rude staff. I went out with friends to Mavericks, which i've done countless times before. This time was denied entry because I was wearing 'house shoes'. I stated to bouncer, they have a rubber sole to them and are platforms. He said I have to go get my boss to check, boss didn't bother even coming outside simply peeked out the door and said no she can't come in 'house shoes'. Mind you I paid $150 dollars for these shoes from DSW. (I attached a photo for reference, which are the resell price since these shoes are no longer in season) I certainly wouldn't spend that on house shoes. I was also wearing a nice casual button up with Wrangler jeans. So a fully put together outfit. (photo for reference) I said okay and stepped to the side and then proceeded to see a women walk out in croc sandals and that was okay? I also looked at their sign right outside where their dress code is listed, and it says nothing about house shoes, which I wasn't even wearing. I always end up having a great time at Mavericks. They play decent country music with a little bit of hip hip to mix things up like once or twice an hour. I've never had to wait in line long for a drink and they have a fun patio area with some games. There's usually some type of cover to get in, around $5. There's also a mix of ages, which I think makes it more fun. The only downside is that the bar itself is pretty small for a country dance hall. The dance floor can get really crowded on the weekends.
