We're out of towers, staying nearby with some old college friends for a mini reunion. 6 of us had a great time. We start3d with some cocktails, I had a martini, and it a real one. Not like the in Manhattan , where they serve the mini martinis (always a pet peeve of mine). Service was excellent, we had Jasmin and a good support staff, a local kid. Food was better than expected. We live right outside the city, and we love our food, obsessively. For starters we had some salad, fried calamari, clams with chorizo in a nice broth and a special fried flourettes. All good, clams in broth was my pick for best app. For entrees we had veal chop, pork chop Milanese with salad, linguine with clams, linguine fra Diablo and 2 fish. Portions are huge, we should have shared. We ended with 1 desert to share a molten lava cake with some fancy ice cream. I'm not a big lava guy, but I loved the ice cream. Expresso were delicious too Price was very good. 468 plus tip, with 2 drinks each too. Place was packed and had a good vibe with a friendly atmosphere. My husband treated me to some Italian on the day of my birthday. We decided to try Rosso Vino as we kept seeing some Instagram posts about it. This restaurant was about 40 minutes from where I live and it was definitely worth the drive. Our server, a young gentleman I forgot his name... was very kind and welcoming. He took care of us very quickly he knew the menu very well and gave some great recommendations. The food was phenomenal. We came on a Monday night, so there was many people there who came after work. This places food is amazing as is the service. Although they were busy you never felt neglected. The only issue was that I although I understand the bus boy is trying to clear the table I was being asked two or three times Within minutes whether I was done just because I stopped for a moment they would come and ask as if they were just watching and waiting for that and just because I was taking a breath didn't mean I was done it happened multiple times to the point that I had my plate taken away before I was even done because I was being asked a third time I appreciate good service but that was a lot. The restaurant was busy I'm not sure if that was the reason but I didn't feel it was just a fight. Also the manager or owner not sure who she was was walking around making sure things were getting done maybe that had something to do with it but I never once saw her smile. Specialty warm sangria rimmed with graham crackers and infused with cranberries warmed my heart and soul. Espresso martin, a glass of Merlot and all three of us were cheerful. Beer battered fried Squash Flowers served with some of the tasty marinara sauce I've ever eaten. Braised lamb shanks served over mashed potatoes finished with pan juice was braised to perfection. Two meaty shanks, tender as can be. Gnocchi with marinara and two huge signature meatballs. Moms Mia those were good meatballs. Some of the best meatballs I've had outside my home. They serve big portions (I am not complaining) so had to take home half my meal. No room for this gal to eat dessert although friend had the maple creme brûlée which he thoroughly enjoyed . Small and intimate. Valet Parking is your best option. Reservations are a necessity. We went with a group of five and were seated promptly. Our server was very excellent. Carefully explaining the specials. I had the monk fish special which was very good. My wife had the broccoli rab and sausage. I would literally move to Branford to be able to eat at this restaurant on a regular basis. Every time we visit we make sure we eat here. The food is excellent, the atmosphere and staff are tremendous. This is a neighborhood spot and definitely a favorite. Have never been disappointed. My wife and I had dinner last night at Rosso Vino and it was an amazing experience. The restaurant itself is small and quaint, but charming and nicely decorated. The food is the main star. For appetizers my wife had the house salad, which she loved and I had the shrimp cocktail with huge, fresh jumbo shrimp that was delicious. For entrees my wife had the gnocchi with meatballs which she said was devine and I had the bolognese which was the best I ever had. The service was attentive and friendly. I'd be sure to make reservations, but it never feels so crowded inside that you can't have a more intimate dining experience. The staff is overly friendly and although parking can be tough, they do have free valet parking. Although I've been there numerous times I've been there twice in the last month for different occasions - each time just as delicious. I'm recently celiac and the staff is extremely knowledge and accomodating. They also have amazing GF pasta! No GF menu and things aren't labeled, but they were very good about it. Outstanding food in impressively large portions. Parking can be an issue, even with a valet, but it's a worthwhile destination. An attentive and knowledgeable server guided us through a host of intriguingly described menu options. There were 6 of us and it's a popular place, so there was a short wait for our 7:30 reservation. We shared the calamari appetizer, which was delicious, blending perfectly crispy squid rings with a little heat, thanks to the cherry peppers. I had the special pasta with dungeness crab, clams, shrimp & mussels in their spicy fra diavolo sauce. Delicious and impressively abundant. Two of us opted for gnocchi, while the lightly breaded pounded pork cutlet tasted as great as it looked. All of us brought some of our food home, as did most of the other diners we saw. Our first visit to Rosso Vino was good! The ambiance was nice, the menu offering was excellent and the meals we ordered were tasty and a good size. My only criticism is with the spicy calamari, if you order I would suggest ordering the sauce to the side otherwise the crispy calamari will be a soggy sauce covered heaps. If I could give this place 10 stars I would! From the food to the service superb! We started with the best Expresso Martini I think I've ever had...moved on to the green tomato appetizer. Next I had the linguine with clams. OMG! The flavor and tons of clams. Sis got the halibut, what a thick flaky piece. Mom got the crab special and our friend Mary got the duck. Rosso Vino is the best Italian in Branford and it can definitely compete on Wooster St, New Haven -- delicious authentic homemade pasta and the steaks there are phenomenal. Be sure to also ask what the soup of the day is and be sure to get it if it's their chicken and vegetable soup. The portions are decent and fair priced. The restaurant is clean, inside and out, it's moderately, spacious, the ambience is great, and the service is phenomenal. We meet friends here once a year since it's the halfway point between Mystic and Norwalk. We love the food here and the specials are so good and more international than Italian. Our waiter was very nice and my husband said his beet salad was the best he's had. His Pasolini buccaneers was excellent and a nice, generous portion. I wanted salmon but don't care for lentils and they were so accommodating in making it just right for me. The crème brûlée was gummies but the cherry on top was a small serving of homemade chococello that was sooo good! Need to back more Han once a year! read more

Myself and a party of 5 went to Rosso Vino on a Saturday night at 6:00. I made a reservation and thank goodness I did, because the place was booming! When we initially got to Rosso Vino, we drove through a cute little beach town. Although, the parking is less than spectacular. We ended up parking in front of a house, but you can either park yourself or get valet parking. There is no parking lot, so be prepared to park in a residential neighborhood. When we got inside, we we greeted by the hostess who was extremely friendly. We told him it was my birthday and he actually remembered when we left and he wished me a happy birthday again. This is the theme regarding the staff at Rosso Vino. Each one makes you feel at home and makes an effort to say "hello" and "thank you for coming" even though they were not directly your server or waiter. Their customer service is outstanding. First, we ordered appetizers: Fried Calamari, Arancini, Fried Oysters, and Caesar salad. Everything was out of this world. I have never had Calamari so light and made to perfection, it was truly amazing. The arancini and the fried oysters were great as well, packed with flavor. I could eat the appetizers and that would have filled me up! We didn't get the squash blossoms which I really regret, because I'm sure, they too, would have knocked my socks off. For dinner, our table ordered Rigatoni Alla Vodka with Chicken, a steak tip special over fettuccini, Pappardelle al Telefono, Pollo Scarpiello, and Maiale Siciliano.
