Went to Ross on Tuesday. I was disappointed to find so much litter of coffee store cups, food plates, pizza boxes and store boxes in the parking lot and side of the store. No garbage receptacles are available to the public from Staples on down the sidewalk. To the side of Ross, a safeway shopping cart was half full of garbage. Inside the store, the store was clean and great displays. We'll stocked. I saw employees cleaning the shelves as stocking. They said hello and excuse me when browsing. This place is rude as for the manager unbelievable(skinny old white lady). I did self check out and had less than 8 items and I was shopping with my cousin(under 10 yrs old) and she had her own items she was paying with her money. I waited for her to be done with her transaction since I didn't want to leave her alone. Then the security proceeds to tell me it's 8 items or unless and I tell him it's 2 separate transactions that I'm just waiting for her since she hasn't paid by herself before so I was teaching her how to. Then told me I couldn't wait for her: then he calls his manager and his manager rudely told me I'm breaking the rules? How if we both had under 8 items, I told her we were paying separately I was just showing her how to pay by herself. She then said it doesn't matter because it's 1 transactions per household. Then walked away not even letting me explain the situation. We don't even live together so how can she assume we live in the same household. Poor customer service, no assistance available. Once I got assistance to reach out the luggage that I want to check out. I was yelled out by the staff because she wasn't able to get the right item I want him to grab for me. She told me to tell her the definite detail on how the item looks like. And so when I gave her the detailed info she still didn't get the correct one. When I told her dark gray, hard shell luggage, she still got the wrong item. She would answer right back at me in a rude way. And by the way her name is Annie from security staff. So I asked for the manager and told the manager that "Annie" ruined my day from giving me a poor customer service. No apology from anyone and no help or correction done also by the manager. I used to work at retail store and I know how to be given a better service. Pls. don't ever come to this store at all. What an effin' cow flop of a retail experience. I come here when I need to buy something specific but not too specific... Like yesterday i wanted to just get a deal on some nice new sneakers for my daughter. Finding nice stuff here isn't really the issue, the issue is really the checkout experience. The line is always ridiculously long and extremely slow and the people acting as cashiers always go massively slow or spend their time returning items as opposed to checking people out. There's a huge self checkout area that people don't seem to notice, but then I tried to use it and they made me call the store to verify my card which was a huge waste of time and the system didn't even work so I had to get back online and go through the cashiers anyway. Really sucked. Besides the chatty 'loss prevention' guy, all of the employees either hide and/or don't know what they're doing. Get in and get out, or don't go. God bless you. read more

I want to love this place but every time I go in the staff is so rude. I asked to pay for bags.... Obviously I don't want to try to juggle stuff out the door... but they only give me two, and my stuff is piled in the cart. Can't roll the cart out the door because it has a giant pole attached to it that exceeds the doorway, the place is swarming with people and the cashier throws the glass vase I was purchasing into the bag with other breakables and it got scratched. What the deal? Spent 100 dollars and can't even get enough bags to hold the things I bought even after I said I would pay for the bags? Trying to juggle the curtains and throw and the hook from the hanger is ripping the throw. I have to maneuver the cart over to the entrance to try to re-package the things in the two bags they gave me so I can leave and get the heck out of the place!!!! I keep going back hoping for a different experience. It gets worse and worse. Owners of this business/ chain/ franchise.... if you care, fire the incompetence that you have working there and get some people who actually care about their job. The employees at this store are insanely rude, there is only ever one person at check out, and one person for self check out, I have been to self check out three times now and the last time I did self check out the worker scanned my one pair of shoes for me (that is all I was buying ) And she pressed pay for me, watched me pay, made me very uncomfortable by watching me put in my pin, and she is the one that handed me the receipt when the receipt came out of the machine , then I asked her to please take off the security tag from them after paying, and she proceeded to ask me for my receipt, as if she didn't just do my whole transaction and hand it to me. I told her that was ridiculous and she said it's to make sure I didn't steal anything..... mind you again she did my whole transaction. This place used to be so good. It has gone downhill. Racist and rude ! This is the 2nd time I encounter something like this at this location ! If I can give 0 starts I WOULD !! I came in to do an Exchange and the cashier didn't want to except my exchange right away . She walked away and I stood there with confusion? She told me to hold on ? I assumed she was trying to make sure the tag matched the item but she called over a manger and her manger came over. They both turned around to look at me and my husband. Which was really discriminatory from the both of them ! The cashier walked back and told me right after that they couldn't accept my exchange right away because there is a "new return" policy . Apparently any merchandise or purchases over $50 without a receipt won't be accepted automatically that now you'd get a mail in voucher? I stood confused because I've never heard of that before ? Nor does that say on their return policy online or behind their receipt. So now I have to wait a whole week for that voucher to come in .. THROUGH THE MAIL !!?? That's just stupid ! I understand the purpose of no receipt and you'd ID them which is fine but I was trying to do an exchange. I was treated as if I had stolen the product. On top of all this the cashier was being rude to her coworker who looked like he was new . He had gotten his register stuck and he was asking for help . She mugged her coworker and told him in an angry mood "that your definitely getting fired" and rolled her eyes ? Like uhmm ... soo UNPROFESSIONAL ! LASTLY... I always tend to shop on Sunday with my family because that's when I'm off but an Associate and tall hispanic LP guy said something about us walking in Spanish. It's a hit or miss w/ the Ross here in town. I mean don't get me wrong, I love me some Ross, but some of their merchandise doesn't make my cut, price good or not. Not their fault, I just have to keep looking to find the treasure. This store gets this rating not for the messy store or the long lines at check out But for the security personnel who greets you when you come into the store. He helped me find boxes That I was looking for and directed me to other products I was looking for. He was very cordial and helpful. This is a testament to the person you have greeting people very good. Tonight i went in at 10pm to get some items with my daughter. There were several employees following us around the store, The entire time we were in there for 20 minutes. The employees in the back were trying on clothing over their clothes. The lady who let me use the bathroom wouldn't allow me to enter without her being in the restroom that i am disabled with 3 broken ribs had to squeeze past this large lady to get in to use the restroom. After she follwed me into the underwear section for over 5 minutes. After she was trying on clothing between underwear section where another employeees was trying on dresses over their clothes. Then the lady in self checkout was staring at me the enitree time i walkedd waiting for my daughter who another employee was following. She gave me a dirty look and staired at me my entire checkout. My daughter checked out separately for her items . I was like was that weird they were following me everywhere. Nope her too. And she is a manager who just got off work. I dont understand what the womens problem was but she was telling the security gaurd to look for someone who had come in with hair down and then pulled her hair up while i was checking out. Like if it such a problem they should close earlier as to not make people feel bad who are paying for all of their items. My daughter brought so much clothes on our trip to Sonoma I decided I was going to get a suitcase especially since she will be leaving for college next year. The selection of luggage is very nice and they are half the price of Target... I found a very large Swiss Army suitcase to fit all her stuff and I found a very nice Bric's piece that matched a Bric's tote bag that I already have. Just got home after shopping here at the Napa Ross. Score!! Boy have they restocked compared to just one week ago. A lot of negative posts are what is usually written and I feel that I need to bring something positive. I read the post from yesterday and find it ridiculous! Sounds like they're mad because they didn't get their way. Just because we're customers does not make what we want always right! Were you following all the return policies or were you wanting exceptions to be made just for you. Is the security lady being targeted for DOING HER JOB and since you're not getting your way "she's power tripping"? Ok, Karen. I've never found an issue with anyone there. On the contrary, I know which security lady is being talking about and she is very professional any time I've gone in and has greeted me in a very friendly manner and is friendly in general. Saying you're being targeted by your lifestyle is slanderous as you are directly attacking the people who were obviously following store policies. Since I shop there all the time, I've returned enough things to know that these people complaining were trying to get around the return policy and are bitter because they didn't get their way. As with any Ross, you need to be patient and search the racks; however, there are quality items here. I've purchased Frye boots, Kate Spade bags, Coach shoes, Uggs boots...list goes on. Don't typically see such brands at other locations, but this one has them. Staff keeps store fairly organized compared to other locations. They regularly get new merchandise. read more

As someone who works retail, I know what to expect when it comes to customer service and Ross is lacking in that department. Staff looks like they'd rather be taken out of their misery than working there. I always thought it was polite and a courtesy to be handed our receipt, but I guess at Ross we grab it ourselves while we're being rushed away because they're yelling at the next customer to come up before the receipt even prints. Before the transaction started, I placed my bag on the counter for the cashier to bag my stuff, but I guess we have to bag our own stuff now since she left all my items on the counter without the bag ever being touched. One of the supervisors there is incredibly rude as well. Before the bag law was enacted, my mother asked for an extra bag so she could use for something. The cashier refused to give us the extra bag. I'm not sure why since bags were still free at the time. The supervisor was near and rudely told us we have all that we needed and would not give us a bag. I don't think it would've killed them to give us an extra free bag. I keep coming back because the prices are great, but the customer service lacks. If another bad incident occurs like with the bag thing, I'm surely calling corporate because I don't think they care if they come off rude. I'm not one to go to such measures, but like I said, I work retail and know what great service looks like and Ross offers unpleasant service. read more

I knew where I was getting tonight's YEE dress ... @Ross! Since I was going to Napa for an errand, I used my time wisely by getting my dress. I've been to the Napa Ross before and I expect nothing less (no pun intended). As in every Ross and/or Marshall I go to the store is a clusterf*ck of clothes and knick-knacks. Luckily there was a fall sale of dresses and I was able to find seven dresses off the rack that would have worked for me. I was so bummed that I found so many perfect dresses but all were quite unflattering. I found this beautiful long formal dress that I would have picked out if I had actually gone to prom. I paid only $24.99 with a retail price of $79.00! Can't wait to wear it! I don't blame the employees for feeling that way because when I passed some of the aisle, merchandise was scattered all over the floor. The lady working the shoe racks had this look, the 'this job will never end'. 3.5 It was late morning and the wife and I wanted to shop. While we dont really mess with the high end stores, ross is always on the top of the list. I like this one in particular because the men's section was full of a selection. I walked out of there with two pairs of jeans and a few button-ups. And I didn't even have to dig for them, the selection was that good and available. The hired help was, helpful and also did not give off that "I dont want to be here attitude". Overall, very happy. This store has the worst customer service! It used to be somewhat decent, but not anymore. Even though it's over crowded and very chaotic, the management should train the employees to work a little harder and provide decent service. I had a horrible experience with the dressing room attendant Barbara! She was so rude, and just awful! I realize that Ross stores are a discount chain and that their prices are hard to beat however, i am done being treated as though my choice to shop in their store is trivial and insignificant. I was shopping their this evening and tried on a few shirts and pants. I brought 9 items with me and was told that before the clerk could count them that I had to hang them on a rack so that she could count them. I was then told that I could only take 8 to the dressing room. No problem. I tried on a few things and bundled them up, picked up all the hangers and returned. I started to hand her the items that I didn't want and the extra hangers for the clothes I was buying at which point the clerk said that she COULDN'T take anything back until I put the items that I was returning back on a hanger. So here is where I just have to draw a line in the sand. I have a job. I don't need another one and it really pisses me off when a store like Ross treats me like the hired help just because they have such great prices. Now don't get me wrong I am not some snotty entitled jerk. I don't blame the clerk one bit. She has a job that would probably make me lose my sanity before I completed my first shift. What angers me is that the management of Ross Stores has somehow created a culture in their stores that allows their employees to exhibit disdain and carelessness with regards to their interaction with their customers. I called the manager who was very polite sounding but was really just waiting for a way to get me off the phone. She simply said that this was a store policy and that there was nothing she could do about it. believe her and it's a shame. She then put me on hold for 4 minutes and i ended the call. What they don't seem to get is that good service doesnt cost that much more than lousy service. Their low prices are not low because they hire rude clerks their prices are low because they buy close outs, seconds and distressed merchandise. So here's the deal Ross. You lost a customer who spent over $1000.00 over the last year or so and you have insured that I will shop at Kohls and Marshall's from now on. There is no reason for a consumer to accept rude behavior or lousy service no matter how low a stores prices are. Bad service is the result of bad corporate and management culture and as consumers we are the only thing that perpetuates it by allowing ourselves to think that we deserve to be treated like cattle because a stores prices are so low. read more

Women be wary of Ross's bras. I had to learn the hard way. They might have a good brand name but they are so aged after wearing them a few days, they start riding up. This usually happens in a few years, not 5 days old~! You "CANNOT" return them because as soon as the tags are removed they are rendered non-returnable. They claim they have this posted in the store, but I did not see any. The cashier tried to print out a light blue policy in tiny print on the other side of the receipt but you could not read it without a magnifying glass. Ross has the worse non returnable policy of any bad quality bra in my entire life. Ross should not be allowed to sell these aged poor quality bras. read more

Barbara back in the fitting room was very knowledgeable and helpful. This store is so chaotic with many customers who are very pushy and rude. Barbara keeps her composer and does a great job. I like going to Ross stores. In fact, my wife speeds past them and tries to distract me when we pass one on a road trip. Actually, it's pretty much any discount store. I don't know what it is, I like wandering through the stores, checking out the offerings, and I love a good deal. OK, so I do know what it is. So, being a Ross store afficianado I have to say, this one is often dirty and disheveled. Clothes are often on the floor, in the aisles, and I witness people stepping on them. If you want a nice Ross store experience, go to the one in Novato. :) read more

Everyone else's bad reviews are accurate in saying that the employees all look like they could care less to be there (I know its retail and it sucks, Ive been there but you can at least make an effort) the only person that ever smiles and greets you into the store is their security person and thats not even their job. My main concern (and now my reason for not returning to this store) is that 100% of the times I have needed to use the restroom they have, it has been overwhelmingly FILTHY. Dirtier than the nastiest gas station bathrooms Ive been in. The floor looks like its never been mopped ever, gross dirty toilet paper everywhere on the floor, overflowing garbage etc. Their corporate offices must not ever visit this location because if they did this place would be shut down. Seriously some of the bad reviews for this store are laughable. Being anoyed because you have to put the clothing back on a hanger really are you that spoiled you cant clean up after yourself. Its ross nothing fancy just great deals. I always find super cute stuff here sometimes it takes some digging but its worth it for the prices. Customer service is hit and miss but typical retail. Another complaint I saw was having to grab your receipt on the way out oh no you might break a nail seesh come on people. Yes you have to hang your items on a rack to be counted before the dressing room and after its a saftey thing that way nothing walks away which is all to common with any retail store ross just got smart and makes it harder. All in all a good store if your looking for fancy friendly and catering to you go somewhere else. Forget finding the size you are looking for, it may be marked, but it is littered with other sizes. As far as Ross' go, this one is pretty good. But, that's compared to other Ross'. Compared to, say, most Marshalls, it's nothing to write home about. I still would give it 4 stars bc I would go there again. And, discount shopping in Napa is limited. read more
