This place has some really beautiful furniture, if I ever need anything custom made I'll definitely return. I bought two beautiful chairs and two side tables from Dagmar, who is one of the nicest people I've ever met. You will pay more, but you're paying for serious quality, and again, you can customize as much as your heart desires. They have a few available floor models, and I was lucky to snag my chairs with a summer discount, so keep your eyes peeled. It looks small on the outside, but there's actually quite a bit of stuff inside, and a bonus extra building filled with more goodies. We had a warranty issue with a manufacturer with a product bought 9 years ago - Paul provided a copy of our original receipt and walked us through the process with that manufacturer. He literally knows everything about beds, couches, recliners, etc ... how they're made, all the parts and the quality thereof ... really amazing all the info he has in his head (I think he started helping out his Dad when he was like 5 years old! My grandfather was in the biz in the LA area, and Paul even knew of him! ;o). Paul at Praetzel's Rocks!! I drove all the way up from Berkeley to try out the TempFlow mattress at Praetzel's. Never had heard of the place before but found out from the TempFlow manufacturer that that was the closest place to try out the mattress. When I arrived I was welcomed and took directly to where the mattresses were. Paul first asked me all sorts of sleeping/mattress related questions before he even had me try out the TempFlow mattress. After he assessed my current mattress situation he had me try it out, it was perfect for me. What I loved about Paul was that he genuinely cares about you and your sleeping comfort. I was amazed at how many "good questions" he asked me, he has many, many years of experience in fitting people to mattresses and it shows. I was worried that I didn't try out the mattress enough (I was only there for a few hours!) so I came back another weekend, it was a Monday Holiday and Paul said he would be happy to be there to let me in to try it out. So nice! He wasn't even supposed to be open that day. So I tried it out again and decided that it was the mattress for me. It was delivered that very week and set up, they vacuumed under the mattress after they took away my old mattress and box spring (for free!!) and even put on my bed skirt for me so I wouldn't have to struggle with it later, greatly appreciated. All in all it was a GREAT experience!!! I love Paul and his awesome service. He even followed up a few weeks later to see how I was getting used to the mattress, which was very nice and not everyone would do that. Thank you very much! read more

My 90-year old mother-in-law living in Petaluma, CA doesn't drive. Learning this, Paul, the owner, personally picked her up at her home and drove her to his store where she purchased a new bed. This level of service sounded too good to be true so we investigated her purchase (we live in Southern CA where such service is as rare as hens' teeth). Here is the result: Not only is she thrilled with the choice of bed but she was given a delivered price that was as low any other retail store we could locate including the much more competitive Los Angeles market. My husband and I were shopping for new couches, both with specific ideas in mind. We have two fat long haired cats; I wanted leather to ease the issue of collecting cat hair, my husband wanted quality well made long lasting beautiful furniture. He's way pickier than me. He looked on line, he visited stores, he called furniture reps. he learned all about high grade leather, well made eight way hand tied hard wood frames etc. Upon our first visit to Praeztels we were thoroughly delighted with the selection, the knowledge and the pleasant staff. Barbara knew her stuff and when she didn't know the answer, she took notes and got back to us within hours. Anne answered our questions both in email and by phone, their service was spectacular. We had had a very unpleasant experience at Cole's in Concord so we were delighted with their responsiveness AND their prices were cheaper. We ordered and received our couch and love seat within weeks. We were apprised of the date they shipped when they arrived at the store, and then given our choice of delivery times. We have an older home and were very concerned about the couches making it through the narrow door ways. Their delivery staff were excellent! and got our couches in easily. We will be furnishing our master bedroom and office next year and will definitely go back to Praetzels, so should you. read more

My experience of buying a new bed is a variation of the "Princess and the Pea" story, renamed to "the guy with the nerve damaged back". I ended up at Praetzel's after my research led me to the TempFlow brand of memory foam mattress. When i arrived, Paul Praetzel welcomed me and directed me to the mattress area where I spent time trying-out various mattresses, while he engaged me in a very relaxed conversation about my personal sleeping habits and preferences. When I layed down on the Selene, my back intuitively knew that this was the mattress for me. Paul is a knowledgable and genuinely warm man who knew how to make all aspects of my experience from inquiry, to sale, to delivery and installation, the most pleasant experience I've had buying a bed. Contrary to the other reviews on Yelp, we had a good experience during the purchase and delivery of the furniture but terrible service post purchase. We bought custom furniture which needed servicing and we called Annie many times about these issues with no resolution. After confronting her after four months she was extremely disrespectful. Given that Praetzels is pricey I would expect the service to be better. I would highly recommend buying furniture elsewhere! read more

We took possession of our new recliner chair by Hooker last nite. Everyone we have dealt with at Praetzel's have been great. We have rec'd wonderful service and support from the present owner "Annie" as well as the person who delivered our chair "Desmond" who got us the chair as quick as possible,considering we live in the Rockridge district of Oakland,and since it was the height of the evening commute,and traffic was horrible as usual from Marin County all the way to Oakland. From the beginning,Annie worked with us to give us the best possible price for the particular chair we wanted and followed up with the manufacturer to try and find out when we could expect delivery of the chair. Turns out that Desmond is the grandson of the original owner of Praetzel's who started the company. A nicer person you will never meet. I love my new chair,beautiful furniture,and the excellent service we rec'd from Praetzel's in all aspects. I was so glad that I stopped by Praetzel's Fine Furniture one Saturday afternoon in 1987. I did not need anything specific but was curious because of the style and location of the store. I was very much impressed by the quality, comfort and style of the furnishings at Praetzel's. We would stop and shop from time to time on our way to Bodega Bay, often just looking and never felt pressured. When we had a house fire in 2006 and lost everything, I remembered that wonderful furniture store in Petaluma, CA. I found their phone number and Paul Praetzel himself answered the phone. From that day forward he worked his magic with the rebuild, offering suggestions from the new fireplace stone to the addition and positioning of the skylight and even ideas for the new front yard landscaping. We have been so pleased with all the beautiful furniture and furnishings from Praetzel's Fine Furniture that made our rebuilt house a home again.
