Franci Skaates does not provide receipts on a cash transaction. Good luck trying to return $80.00 broken vase., that was due to using 2 pieces of tissue to wrap it rather than bubble wrap. H Frank is one of the several home accessories stores that are as much a part of the Sonoma Plaza commerce as the wine tasting places and the Swiss Hotel. One difference here is that H Frank has a lot more furniture and associated furnishings. It was fun to look around, imagine the possibilities and wonder who really buys this stuff. read more

We bought our new living room furniture here as we like to support local merchants versus the national outlets. The owner came to our house to see what our style was and determine what would fit in our home. She brought tons of samples, books full of chairs and tables and when we couldn't find exactly what we were looking for, she called the shop and had them bring over more! Waiting for our new furniture was excruciating, but after all, it was custom made especially for us and shipped from the east coast. Finally, it arrived and the owner supervised its delivery. After a couple of weeks, we noticed a problem with one of the chairs. We called the store and true to her word the owner not only replaced the chair but with a much better one than we had ordered. If you're looking for fast or furniture that everyone else has then settle for the big box, national stores, and your house will look like everyone else's, but if you want your distinctive style to show and you want your house to look unique then this is the place! read more

We always thought this was a nice place to browse but we recently had a very disturbing experience there. We ordered a wall sculpture there & they indicated that we would get it in 4 weeks. We never heard from them & when we called we were informed the sculpture would not be available for at least 12 additional weeks. We didn't want to wait so we asked for a refund & they refused & said we could only get store credit. We understand that a small store can't exist unless there is only store credit for delivered merchandise. However, we never received our sculpture so it is clear they should return our money. They refused so we had to file a protest with our credit card company. They should rethink their policy. They are foolish to hold people up in this manner. Until they do they will lose business & rightly so. read more

Totally cool, mission-style home and art/jewelry store. The employees were super friendly and hip, even bringing out their dog to be played with! We purchased some small jewelry items, and salivated over the furniture and household elements. Worth a visit! read more

Very nice store, with really fun items - and as others have noted, the staff is friendly. However, it's been almost a month since I bought a rug at their shop - and there has been ZERO communication to me on when it may be delivered. Extremely poor customer service. My advice - go check out this place, and if you buy something TAKE IT WITH YOU (DO NOT HAVE IT SHIPPED) to avoid having an unacceptable post-store experience. I sent 2 emails, and made 2 phone calls to ask for at least minimal information (i.e. when the rug would ship; is there any update?) - on the phone calls, the employee has said the same thing twice now "oh geez, been so busy I forgot to check on that for you." Guess they don't check email either, as that's been zero response too. Really a shame. Such a fun looking store, in cute Sonoma town square. Again, my shopping advice here (so that you're not out gobs of money with nothing received), if you see it in the store, and want it - pay, and take it out the door with you. Despite waiting for the salesperson to help us, didn't receive as much as a nod. Another patron jumped in front of us at the front desk and the salesperson helped them first. What an intriguing store in terms of the diverse items. I bought a wonderful baby gift of soft lambswool slippers for $13, an hysterically funny sign for a friend ($23) and a coffe table for myself (unusual and worth the dollars). The range of unique items varies from almost one of a kind knick-knacks to bedroom, living room and dining room furniture that I have not seen in the chain stores aimed at mid to upper scale incomes. What a cool store. They have a great selection of unique household decor. I found wall sconces I loved and ended up sitting down with one of their designers and and completely refurnished my family room with literally everything in the store, from a custom couch to window coverings. It all started with wall sconces. The designer I met with was Very knowledgeable, helpful, accommodating and even delivered it all. Can't wait to do my bedroom, I also fell in love with a bed room set they had on display, it was hard not to buy that too. I will be back! read more

We ordered three pendant lights for our kitchen. The store pushed back our delivery date several times and when we asked for our money back, they refused because it was a "custom order". When we finally received the shipment, we discovered the lights didn't match our decor. The store manager stated H Frank has no return policy on "custom orders" (mind you, these are pendant lights) and thus we have to keep our $1,500 purchase. We will never do business with H Frank again and I suggest you think twice before handing over your credit card number. read more

I visited during a recent wine trip and have got to say this is a great place to find something special for your home! My GF and I visited 2-3 times while making decisions and each time had a different person and each one was very helpful and friendly. Granted you can find many of the items in other places but then you couldnt say that you got it in Sonoma! :) read more

DO NOT order from this establishment. Buyer beware! We purchased a bedroom set from H Frank in September. We were told the items would be delivered 2 weeks before Christmas. In January we still had not received a call from the store to tell us our items were ready to be delivered, so we called and asked where they were. After the owner said she would check and get back to us, we never heard from her. We called again, and were told that the factory the items were coming from was closed for the holiday, it was January! The owner said she would call when they re-opened, and again, we heard nothing. We called back the following week, and were told that it was being shipped, and that it would be another 2 weeks. Again, we heard nothing so we called back. Another excuse was given, and we were told it was on the way. We called again, and were told that the bedroom set had arrived back east, and that we would have it soon. When we called to find out where the set was a week later, we were informed that the company that H Frank uses for transport will only deliver furniture if they have a full truck. So our bedroom set, sat at a transport hub for 10 more days. At this point, we told them to either get the set or return our money. Once again, we were told they were working on it, and we would get a phone call back. No phone call! The truck they finally found to deliver the set broke down on the way, delaying the process even more. The set finally arrived, and was delivered by people that could not handle the weight of the furniture, and had no business delivering anything. The dresser came in first, and after looking it over, there was paint stain that had dripped down the front of the dresser, there were areas that had light spots, and the trim around the dresser was not put on correctly. We told the delivery gal that it was not acceptable, and her first response was that she could have the companies faux painter fix the problem. We refused. She had another dresser in the truck that was also being delivered, so we ended up with that as the replacement. Long story short, do not buy from here, they cannot handle the orders, nor deliver what they promise. To pay 5K for a bedroom set, and to be treated the way we were was not worth the price. And one more thing, when the owner asks for the money up front, and tells you that once the order is placed that it is not refundable, RUN. read more

Avoid this store if you don't want to be annoyed. The products are shoddy, the salespeople are clueless and the store policies are not competitive. I found a bar stool I liked and needed three of them. This was not an inexpensive purchase. The salesperson I spoke to took the information and asked me to call the store on Monday to find out how soon they could be delivered. I needed them ASAP. When I called Monday another salesperson told me the owner didn't know when she would be going to go to the warehouse to pick them up and the standard delivery time (to an address 3 blocks away) is six to eight weeks. The owner then contacted me and said that the salesperson was not properly trained and gave the wrong information. The stools would be available in a few weeks but because they are special orders all sales are final. No chance to see how they looked in my house. I found great bar stools at CB2 the next day. They were in stock and cost $100 less per stool. I put them in the car and drove home that day. I also bought a small metal vase at H Frank that day. When I got home I saw that the entire side had split and could not be repaired without welding. I am so frustrated with the lack of quality I don't even want to go back to the store to return the vase. read more

Ordered sectional couch & ottoman in September 29, 2009 & deposit of $2,352.22 was paid. At the time of my order H Frank and I discussed and H Frank agreed to change the feet on the sectional to "bun" style feet from the square style feet that came standard with the sectional, at no additional charge. I called to confirm that the feet would be "bun" style within a week of placing my order since they did not write anything on the order slip. Delivery was promised before the holidays. Both my designer and I made several telephone calls to inquire about delivery as the holidays were approaching. Our calls were never returned. In January 2010 the sectional was delivered with the incorrect style feet and the sections did not fit together properly, and the ottoman was missing. I did not accept delivery yet this couch had been paid for in full. I made a second payment of $2,352.22 on January 15, 2010. In May 2010 I was still without a couch. My designer sent numerous emails and made many phone calls between January and May. H Frank would sporadically respond and told us they were trying to locate the feet. On May 4, 2010 my designer emailed H Frank and asked for a status update and to provide a delivery date. H Frank never responded to that email so my designer called to follow-up and her phone call was not returned. After living without a couch for 8 months I gave up and purchased a couch from another retailer and initiated a charge dispute on May 18, 2010 with my credit card company. Suddenly, H Frank called to tell me my couch was ready for delivery. I informed them that I no longer needed or wanted a couch from them and explained that I was very disappointed and unhappy with their customer service. In the dispute process with my credit card company I was truthful and H Frank was dishonest about what happened. H Frank gave the excuse that it took 4 months to locate the correct feet...yet the retailer that I ultimately purchased through located the feet I wanted in a matter of days. H Frank was delinquent in responding to our emails and phone calls. I felt very uneasy that I paid for the couch in full as of January and still in May H Frank provided no anticipated delivery date, no confirming paperwork and no confirmation that they had indeed located or ordered the correct feet. read more
