I first had the Lychee martini, which was tasty and nicely chilled, then had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, a generous pour of a delicious wine that goes for $17 when it's not happy hour. At the Ray Hotel, next to the valet booth was an elevator which we took to the Rosewater Rooftop bar and restaurant. Strong resort style pool, patio and bar with a 360 degree view of Delray Beach. We sat immediately at an inside wooden slated table next to the cocktail bar. The room featured warm, rustic elements, such as the thick wooden beams secured by metalwork. The server Justin was attentive, professional with a great personality. The Jalapeno Cheddar Smash Burger was huge and juicy with just a hint of peppery heat - definitely surprised by the flavor combination of the cherry pepper jam and bacon. The appetizer was corn tortilla chips and toasted naan served with large chunks of fresh mahi-mahi. I wish I read the reviews before I visited. 1) Lobster Roll is cold and disgusting. It tastes like a cold buffalo chicken dip. Not good, not worth the price. Not filling. The bread that the filling sits on is literally disgusting. It's hard to mess up bread, but it has happened here. 2) Steak Frites- the steak was the chewiest I've ever eaten in Delray. The steak is also comically small. I choked 2x. It's oily. 0/10 The location is beautiful. The customer service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. One of my favorite rooftops in delray! I have come here a couple of times for cocktails. Most recently came in for happy hour. While I didn't get any of the food there were some strong options for good prices. I had the lychee martini which was pretty tasty. Also tried the happy hour mule, which was not my favorite. Didn't exactly taste like a mule but also just wasn't good. Could have been an off day for the bartender either way the ambiance is good here and the service is friendly. Let's start with the service: Christa was our server. She was attentive informative and professional. There was a hostess who we had to search for to be seated and she seemed bored and tired when walking from the hostess stand to the Resturant. But let's not blame her entirely as it was about 100 degrees in that heat and humidity and I wouldn't want to stand around outside either. The ambiance, ah the ambiance. How I sought out the ambiance when I made the reservation. Ah how I was looking forward tonight when I saw all the pics on line. And how disappointed I was when I was "in it". Maybe cause it was an off hour, around 1:30 on a weekday (Friday), and this place is really an evening place. A place for the beautiful and hoping to be beautiful locals come and mix. And drink. And listen to loud music. And snap pics. And drink. And pose. And drink. And I was there to eat lunch. And check them out. The vibe was on life support. The music which could barely be heard seemed to potentially be hot if they turned it up. When I asked the manager to do so he probably thought I was weird. Why would an old man with gray hair and a high BMI want loud music. Well, to start with, it would have created the vibe they are selling. And drown out the hotel out of town era dressed in bizarre clothes at the bar starting to booze it before 3 pm happy hour. And let me say a word about the look of the place. Well designed. Well furnished. Tropical. But also looked worn out. Like it needed a good cleaning. Polishing. Get the stickiness off the table tops. And keep the damn doors closed so it's cool inside. All the hot humid airbrushing in on both sides of the bar made no sense to us other than to ease the servers in/out with drinks. Food was good. Not great. It sort of felt like upgraded hotel restaurant food. The fried chicken sandwich was dry although the sauce on the side was tasty. My request for well done fries resulted in barely fried fries. The salad with grilled chicken breast was good but it seemed to be portion controlled. A large plate which was filled with a medium amount of salad greens. Would I return? Highly unlikely. The pasta was unsalted and overcooked. There's not a lot of variety. The inside is hot and stuffy. The wait staff isn't very professional and the bathrooms smellled. This past Friday, my friends and I who were staying at the hotel wanted to go up to the pool. As soon as you walk through the doors the stand for Akira is there. There were 4 girls, who honestly looked like 4 girls who were just hanging out. Sitting, standing and talking. Pretty intimidating to go up to them as they all just stared at us. I asked if there were any seats and one of them grabbed menus and wanted to lead us to the back. I said oh I'm sorry I meant for the pool. And one of them said "we don't do the pool." I said I didn't know and thank you. They rolled their eyes and judged with their eyes, that feeling you get if you're bullied. About 5 minutes later they had another issue with a couple next to us. They made the guy feel dumb for asking where he could order food and then proceeded to make fun of his accent!!! He was furious to the point he told the server he would usually just leave the hotel completely. On my way down to my room, I said, I just wish you guys would have been nice instead of rolling your eyes at me and my friends. And one of the girls got super defensive and said, we didn't. And I said well of course we didn't make that up! And she said "we don't do the pool! We don't work there!" I said well you represent this hotel, so you should still have manners and help direct their customers, it is the same space! And she said we did! Kept fighting with me. So I left. First off, if you have 4 girls (possibly 5??) on shift, why are they all hovering on the front stand?? It's very intimidating!! And by their clothes you couldn't even tell they worked there. When we have stayed at The Ray, the rooftop experience was delightful and easy. Since moving to the area, we do not go as often and must be more mindful to plan ahead. That being said: 1) it is worth the effort and 2) the team running the rooftop bar and restaurant is sky high stellar. They are the loveliest people. Smart, welcoming, accommodating, friendly. The food and drinks are great, the setting is unlike anything else in DB. But mostly it is a joy bc of the atmosphere, which is carefully curated by this wonderful group of young staff people. I can't comment on the food and drinks because we had to run for shelter from the rain, but the ambiance and service were great. This is connected to a hotel, so you can valet or find nearby street or garage parking. I was able to find free street parking on a Saturday night with a little walking. My sister told us about this "new" bar, and it just so happened we had family staying at that same hotel the next day so, obviously, we went and checked it out. Both outside and inside have bar seating, high tops and tables. For the bar and high tops it's first come / first serve, for tables, the hostess will let you know what's available. At any spot you will be served rather quickly, depending of how busy they are. That Saturday we started our day there, at around 4pm. Got spots at the bar and were immediately presented with menus. Our drinks were prepared and after the first one, we moved to a table and enjoyed a second one before we headed out. Out night passed, visiting other places in Delray but we ended the night here again. There were more people at this time of night, a livelier atmosphere and still great drinks and service. We liked this place so much, the next weekend we had a friend visiting and decided to take here there too. She was very happy with our choice and so where we. Great time again, two weekends in a row! The atmosphere is really nice; however, if you do not have a reservation seating is only available at the bar and is first come, first serve. I came with a friend for drinks. In our trek from the main drag to this establishment (about half a mile), we were presented with drink coupons (ladies only) for a free drink at the bar. There are stipulations to this free drink, but it's what's expected. No specialty drinks. The music was... interesting. It was a mix of oldies dating back to the 1960s. I'm not sure who their target audience is, but it threw me for a bit of a loop since it was a Saturday night. I would probably return for their brunch, but likely won't go again for drinks. You must go to Golden Hour at at The Ray Hotel's restaurant Rosewater. The premier rooftop lounge has 360-degree views of Downtown with a tropical oasis seating area. The Golden Hour (happy hour) includes many great deals, including HALF OFF all drinks and $9 appetizers. You are in for a special treat paired with a little slice of atmosphere paradise. My recommendation would be the "Coo Coo for Coconuts" made with vodka, pineapple juice, and coconut red bull. Another favorite is the "Afternoon Delight" made with grapefruit juice, hibiscus agave, prosecco and aperol. For a tequila-based cocktail, my husband recommends the "Watermelon Sugar". Rosewater is a beautiful space & a wonderful addition to Pineapple Grove & surrounding Delray. The vibe is super trendy, and it's a great spot for a date or a girls night out. When we arrived downstairs, I was a bit confused as to who they were "allowing" on the rooftop. The girls at the hostess stand told me that they were full, and I said that we'd go to the bar, so they let me in the elevator. When my friend arrived a few minutes to a behind me, they told her that only people with reservations could go up, so she told them we had one and met me at the bar. I guess they're trying to do the whole "exclusive" vibe, but it might be a better idea to appeal to locals who will consistently patronize the restaurant.
