You know I love a good hidden gem…read more Old Germantown is just that. We were in the general area-ish doing some shopping and wanted to get some pizza for takeout some place closeby to enjoy at home while watching the Olympics (because it's in Italy--so pizza seemed like just the thing). A search on Yelp brought up this place as somewhat closeby. It was after dark when we went in search of it. We drove down a rural road past what appeared to be a driveway that led to a farm. This can't be it. We tried again. Navigation brought us to the same driveway. My husband was ready to give up. I decided to call the business. A kindly gentleman answered and said--yep! It will look like you're driving to a farm but we're here! As we got closer to the end of the drive we saw a bustling parking area. While it might be hard to find--the people have found it. And, so did we. We entered to find beer hall vibes with tons of communal seating. We asked if we could order to go which they were more than willing to accommodate. We found a couple bar stools at their bar, ordered our salads and pizza, and then enjoyed a couple of stout beers while we waited. The beers, salad, and the pizza straight from their wood fired pizza oven were all fantastic. We got one of their specialty pizzas which was a white pie that comes with ricotta (as well as mozz) mushrooms, and basil on a crust that has just the right amount of chewiness and char. Lovely! The folks working here were above-and-beyond friendly. And, one told us that they have a large outdoor patio during pleasant months. We will definitely be back during the pleasant months. And, let's be real--during the less than pleasant months as well. Get to it!

Upon driving in there is a building for the restaurant along with nice outdoor seating, and area for kids to play! We went in mid May on a sunny but cool evening. The kids loved having the sand area and toys to play with while waiting for dinner to arrive. They have a good menu, but there seemed to be a decent amount of items unavailable especially the sausages my friends wanted to try. We ended up with the spring pizza, sassy pig, a plain cheese, and then a three combo of sausages. I thought the pizza was all good, not the best I've ever had but solid. The spring pizza was my favorite. The sassy pig was very unique but good! Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the sausages but others in my group liked them. We upgraded that to include fries and there was only a very small amount. We will definitely be back, seems like a great spot for groups!

The Sicilian breaded tenderloin had plenty of seasoning and was much bigger than I expected, tons of food even for my giant appetite. The bar area is first come first served, so if you try to walk in, check there and avoid the wait. It's a cool supper club feel and was very welcoming; we'll be back!

We entered on an early Friday evening and the place was already quite packed. I was somewhat surprised at how small the bar and dining room actually were, but the somewhat eclectic décor made the place feel warm and cozy, even though we were not seated by the fireplace table. Our server, Jane, was nice enough and the service was fairly good, but despite seeing a table next to ours getting a birthday song serenade, nothing was ever said about my groups occasions. Even at the end, when my mom ordered a to-go dessert and I commented on it being a birthday treat, it was never acknowledged. I find that odd and a little irritating. The eggplant sticks appetizer was good, as was the bread and whipped butter. My cod dinner was adequate, with the star being the potato pancake. Mom's Ditka chop was good, but the other two were mixed in their opinions about the Sausage Pepper Vodka Penne. I left the place feeling fairly underwhelmed, I'm afraid. Meh.

Take away to home, 2 minutes by car, the deep--fried Eggplant was dropped to cook once I walked in the door. As well, Chicken Marsala with creamy sauce/gravy, unctuous mushrooms and penne. All food was perfect, fantastic uber hot tasty marinara for lemon juiced-salted eggplant "fries". Unbelievably delish! The Marsala. Wow. Truly great food, great folks..thx to long-time owners/hosts/emcees Carmelo and Frank. The deep fried mushrooms we had for an appetizer with marinara sauce were spot on. My chicken Marsala had ample mushrooms and a flavorful sauce with a side of pasta. My spouses veal Marsala was even better than my chicken. Bread and oil or butter early on was warm and went well with the short wait for food. It is a bit crowded inside, but that is a sign of spectacular food and service.
