Was on the Rosati's patio today for lunch with my daughter amidst errand running and beach time. We had way above average service, quick and efecient. The Greek Salad, which we shared, was very nicely done and the "kid's" pizza was more than enough for 2 for lunch. Had this pizza once before and it was fine gave it another shot and it was the worst pizza we've ever had. We got deep dish veggie, there was no crust it was pure mush. Awful! I picked up at restaurant and was there before it was ready and a 7 minute ride home, so it's not like it sat there for a long time. Toppings were cut too large, like the green pepper pieces and very bitter. I asked to add black olives but they were Greek olives with the real strong taste, doesn't work on pizza. Slices of tomato which is probably why the pizza was soaking wet. Even the edges where the crust wasn't wet didn't taste good. Recently got back from Chicago and was craving the amazing deep dish pizza I had there; have to say even the chain pizza restaurant, at the gas station stop in Iowa (that I was forced into getting because there were no other food choices) was better! We have made this our new family Friday pizza place. The service is always excellent, and the food is truly authentic Chicago style. The garlic fried dough pieces are incredible and would be good for large groups (with a family of 3, we can never finish them). The pizza is really, really good and they have a great selection of beers. Only think on the negative side is the now serve Pepsi products, which suck. Please switch back to Coke!!!!! read more

Moved from Chicago to San Diego 4 years ago and the foods I've missed most are Chicago pizza and Italian Beef. Rosati's has both and I finally got to try them. The thin crust pizza was pretty good (never been a deep dish guy). The beef was a little salty and too light on Italian seasoning. The sweet/bell peppers were charred burnt, but the bread and giardiniera were great. The sandwich fell short of the Chicago standards like Maxwell's, Al's, Portillo's or Buona Beef, but I'll be back to give it another chance. Hopefully the 2nd time around will taste more like home. read more

If you like a nice clean neighborhood pizza (and much more) place, I urge you to try Rosati's. I just happened to notice that the Quiznos was gone and Rosati's moved in so I checked it out. I tried their pizza and really enjoyed it. They use a quality cheese and it really does make a difference. Service has always been fast and friendly. Chicken wings are also one of my favorites. They have with and without bone style and many flavors to choose from. They let you do half and half with no hassle like some other places do. I am not much of a beer or mixed drinks kinda guy but the bar looks like they serve anything that you could ask for. I know that it is an impossibility to earn a 100% 5 Star review as there are always people who complain about something. Some of the less than 5 stars that I see below are typical of ANY restaurant and they are not the status quo here, I can assure you. Like anywhere, if there is a problem, let the manager know and they will take care of it. I don't hesitate to recommend Rosati's to friends, neighbors or visitors. First off let me say this. This was the worst service I have ever received from a restaurant. My family and I have had positive past experiences with the chain in another location. We were at the beach and decided we'd stop here for dinner, big mistake. First they took 20 minutes to seat us which I had no problem with since it seemed decently crowded. We already viewed the menu while waiting, so we knew what we wanted by the time we were seated. We ordered 1 pizza, a salad, and 2 appetizers. We waited for about an hour before finally getting our salad. By this time it's not as crowded as before and there's a few open tables which we thought meant that we'd start to receive better service. We were wrong, when the salad was put on the table, and the waiter walked off without giving us silverware, we're all wondering if he expects us to eat it with our hands. We wait 5 minutes before flagging him down to ask him for silverware. Another 5 minutes pass and he returns with one set of silverware saying they ran out of silverware and he'll be right back. HOW DO YOU RUN OUT OF SILVERWARE. We waited 10 minutes before getting silverware and our other appetizers and then he walked off again without seeing 3 empty water glasses on the edge of the table. 15 minutes go bye before he sees the glasses and then says "I'll get you guys some water". By now I knew that this would take 10 more minutes to get them filled and sure enough I was right. He fills the water and says that the pizza will be out soon (none of us were buying it). We wait another 10 minutes and decided that it wasn't worth it at this point, so we decided to get the check and pay for the salads and appetizers. We tell them why and they apologized and said that the order wasn't put in properly and said that our pizza was almost done. They ended up giving us everything for free (including the pizza), but still the worst experience at a restaurant ever. I recommend Rosati's in Temecula. Worst experience ever! My Boss got a $30 gift card from the Temecula location in a gift basket. Called to see if it could be used at the Encinitas location. Was told it could be; got there and they said there was no money on the card...the only reason that I used Rosatis was because of this gift card. To make a long story short, they did not honor the card, stated that they couldn't be responsible for Temecula location screw up (ok we get that) but when I said well as far as I'm concerned, Rosatis are all the same, Rosati is a business name. The owner of this location stated that all Rosatis were all individually owned and therefore the Rosati name was only a corporate thing and didn't mean a thing. Bummer for Rosati's...I don't recommend this place not based on their rudeness alone as well as they won't even stand by their "corporate name" but the pizza that I paid $24.00 as I ordered 1/2 cheese and 1/2 pepperoni...wow Rosati's thanks for the four slices of pepperoni...the two $10 salads I got were really small as well. My recommendation? DON'T GO THERE!!!! And don't expect them to stand by their company name! I'll post a picture of the pizza as soon as I can! read more

Very good pizza. Quality was good. Tried thin and deep dish. Good flakey crust on deep dish. Sauce was good too. Quick to pick up. In light of very few chicago pizzerias in the SD area, It's a winner. Chopped Salad was surprisingly good as well. read more

Pizza is great, good salads. Service is hit or miss. Lots of people working, they gather at the bar or hostess area and chat while your glass is empty. They seem to have a lot of regulars at the bar and wait staff spends a lot of time dealing with them vs customers. White Pizza is amazing. read more

Was at Rosati's a few night ago and if your in the mood for true Chicago cuisine, Rosati's of Encinitas is the place to go! There were 4 of us dining and each of had something different. The Italian Beef sandwich is to die for and you must order a thin crust pizza with Italian Sausage! I'm still salivating! In addition to the awesome food, they have a great wine selection and 30 beers on tap! An added bonus, Chicago sports on their 7 TV's! It'll be my place to watch the Cubs! SHOCKED! Never in my entire life have I been treated so poorly at a restaurant, (I'm 54) and it was by the co OWNER! We've been with this place from the beginning and went very frequently. We've spent lots of $$$$ here, even celebrating the cubs World Series with them. We were there today and ordered 3 pizzas and every one of them was burnt black!!! There was all sorts of black bits all over the top also. The waitress knew it was a problem and got the manager which is one of the owners. She came to our table and acted like we were crazy, and argued with us! We've been eating at Rosatis pizza restaurants for 17 years total! She said only one pizza was burnt, WRONG and denied that all 3 were charred! Totally offended us as if we didn't know what a burnt pizza looked like and said the dark spots all over was corn meal, (REALLY). Wait....it gets better. She then looked at us and said, "I don't have time to talk to you because I have to get back in the kitchen" We waited a long time for our pizzas with no complaints, and then to be treated so rotten with inedible food! The waitress which was very sweet apologized repeatedly and clearly knew how wrong it was! Never will I darken your doorstep or recommend you to anyone! Wish I could give you 0 stars!!! When you walk in you get the feeling that it's one of those tiny pizza places m, but once you're seated and you're food arrives it's like heaven on a plate. Rosario is spectacular from their amazing dough fingers to their calzones ( which I know is a lot, hey don't judge JK) and let's not forget desert with their AMAZING choices. Everything from the owner, to waiter and cashier were awesome. My only complaint is that the pizza we received had the ends slightly burned which caused the taste to be salty. Changing my two star review to a one. We love the pizza at Rosati's, but the consistency and customer service is terrible. Many orders have been wrong, including our last delivery, and tonight we ordered a pizza we picked up, and it also was incorrect. We called and the only solution the restaurant offered was that we could make a new pizza that we could pick up or they could credit us for our next visit. We asked for them to deliver the pizza, they wouldn't. We asked for a discount on the pizza since we would have to drive for another 30 minutes to pick up the new one (while the rest of our food got cold) they wouldn't give one. Finally, we asked for a refund for the pizza (the wrong one we didn't want) instead of a credit for the next time, and they wouldn't do that either. Finally, they agreed to refunding the pizza after an argument. This is not the way to treat frequent customers who have already put up with many messed up orders. We are disappointed in you, Rosati's. read more

Nice atmosphere, help could be a bit nicer. Food is good, pizza is good and flavorful. BEWARE though, if you order a pizza or mozzarella sticks or anything, THEY CHARGE $.50 for RANCH?!? Not cool Rosati's but I get it, but RANCH???. On a positive note, they are very honest... they realized the "new" dough shrunk the pizza from a 16" which was what we ordered to a 14" pizza. Could have been an excuse but it was an inconvenience for our rumbling belly's. They apologized and said they would remake the pizza. No consultation for the extra 15 minute wait. Way too long for pizza and a bit pricey especially if you're not offering ranch. Lastly, to the bartender lady, probably not a good idea to keep telling people your pizza is almost ready when it's no even close to 15 minutes from being ready. NOT coming back again. Cheers! Offering to offer extra ranch to me just because I wrote a review is not fair to the rest of the public. He just lost an extra star for that one. Lastly, I also want to write that your bread nuggets were way to garlic greasy and the mozzarella sticks were average nothing great to write home about. I've had the pizza once before and it had flavor but it's not worth this entire experience. Disappointed and underwhelmed, as I had high hopes in finding our new favorite pizza spot. The ambiance feels more like a fast food restaurant rather than a cozy pizzeria. Nothing felt homey or unique about the space, very sterile (small example= plastic plates). Friendly wait staff, but they got our pizza order incorrect :/ leaving off the pepperoni on our pepp & sausage pizza. Overall the place seemed way over-staffed. The mozzarella sticks were generic and clearly frozen and only tasted "blah". The deep dish took 35 minutes, which was less than the expected 45 minutes they originally quoted. Sadly it had very little flavor. The bites with toppings made things somewhat more flavorful, but overall not very good and the sauce just took over everything. The crust was so thick it tasted more like uncooked dough, rather than a crispy deep crust. I love eating crust after eating the main part of the pizza, but Rosati's outer crust was just not enjoyable. Would not go back again, but glad I tried it once. read more

Well we came in on a Friday evening with my family visiting from Colorado for the first time since I had been going to college here in San Diego. It took them awhile to seat us but when we finally sat down, for some reason the bearded bartender was taking care of us, he was absolutely the worst server ever and so rude the entire time, ignoring us just kind of seemed like he didn't really care and didn't want to make money. Finally ordered our food, and our pizza had come out 45 minutes later cold, wet and soggy and that was the last straw so we talked to the manager apparently on duty, bald headed middle-aged guy wearing glasses apparently name Mike came to our table and you could kind of tell why he hired that bartender because he was absolutely rude and refused to give us a refund or just renew the pizza ,that's all we wanted we were just hungry cause we had been sitting there for almost and hour n a half. So then I walked up to the front where the young lady was hosting and all I could see in here was that manager Mike yelling, cursing and yelling at one of the chefs with the bandana on who actually we got to meet when he was coming out of the restroom and he was a very nice guy, I told him what had happened and he sincerely apologized and honestly made our trip to Rosati's not all a failure, at least we finally talked to somebody with a brain and actually had a nice attitude and great customer service, he actually took some of our plates and cups with him back to the kitchen knowing that that wasn't his job but he was just trying to make us happy. Funny how the better customer service came from what he looked like was the chef because all the other Cooks were wearing t-shirts, I think from what I had noticed myself, and to a surprise he actually defended the so-called manager and said he was a really good boss and a nice guy which I didn't see but good for him having a positive attitude and for some some reason I trust judgment. Also the the host and hostess I remember because I wrote their names down, I believe it was Corey and Sydney we're just awesome and had nothing but smiles and a good attitude at the end of a almost terrible visit. Too bad those employees don't have a better manager to look up to. I actually work as a food writer for a San Diego magazine and can't wait to write this story so other people know about Rosatis in encinitas. Just left Rosati's...what a disappointment! We were a party of 6 that arrived at 6pm and left at 8:15. The service was so awfully slow. Waited over 45 min for our appetizers and the wrong ones were delivered. Waited 15 more minutes. Dinner was laughable. Chicken parmigiana had a dried out, breaded, slab of chicken on spaghetti without any mozzarella cheese on it. Two pizzas were delivered 10 min after the other entrees and were undercooked, raw, inedible. We didn't complain but after we got the bill I showed the uneaten pizza to our waitress and she took it to the manager but she never came back. On the way out, I asked the hostess if I could speak to the manager. She asked me what was the problem. I told her I just wanted to inform him of what was being served to his customers. She said there were 2 managers and they were both too busy to talk to me. I could have a seat and wait. Ok..not. So now I'm talking to the managers..sorry.. You lost some good customers tonight..we won't be back. read more

We are from Chicago so we were very excited to try a new Chicago-style pizza place nearby. We were excited about the all of the Chicago sports paraphernalia, but really disappointed by the service. We have a two year old so we called ahead to order, told the staff that we were planning to dine in but wanted to get our order started. Once we arrived and sat down, we told our waitress that we had phoned in our order, and told her what our order was. We ended up sitting there without food, not even the salad we had ordered, for 45 minutes. Our waitress walked by our table multiple times, never checked in. We got her attention a few times and asked about our food but she kept on saying that they were still working on it. Finally after we bugged her again, she discovered that our food had been in the take-out area for the past 30 minutes. She brought it over to our table in to-go containers. Didn't even try to present it for dining in. I asked if the pizza was cold and she said it had been on the warmer so should be fine. At this point we didn't feel welcome or valued at all so we paid at the take-out counter and took our cold pizza home. No one apologized or offered anything to compensate for our wait. The pizza is always good there but some of the other entree's there are a bit higher priced for what you get. Went there this evening to unwind after a long day with my son and a friend. They had a live band inside of the restaurant. On a normal night the place is loud enough that you have some difficulty talking to the people you are eating with. The band did not make for a pleasant dining experience so we had to sit outside. Outside there was a party of eight that were extremely loud. They could be heard over the band and were griping about it being too loud. The server was behind the ball, both myself and my son had to get up from the table, go inside and ask him for re-fills from our drinks and a plate after the pizza was served. If the place was crowded I could understand but there were three tables of people inside. If you want a good pizza this isn't a bad place but the service is severely lacking and the inside band makes it an unpleasant dining experience. It's too bad really because I like the pizza a lot but this is the second time I've had bad service there and there won't be a third. read more

Went at 6 p.m. w/o reservations, but a large sports group had a good portion of the restaurant booked. Were told upon arrival that the wait would be 20 minutes, but then got told a table was getting their bill and a table would be available soon. Ended up waiting 25 minutes before something became available. Once shown to a table, the waitstaff was attentive and appetizer and drink orders were taken quickly. Beer selection was very good - wine selection minimal. Ordered bruschetta for an appetizer (50% off for Happy Hour which goes until 7 p.m.). Strangest bruschetta we have ever had (warm/soft sliced baguette w/melted cheese and chopped tomato in a small container to spread on the cheese bread). Ordered beef sandwich w/spicy giardiniera, pasta w/sausage and a large meat pizza. French fries that came w/the beef sandwich were good and the sandwich was tasty, although not extravagant in size. Pizza was tasty w/thin crust. The pasta was the weakest link. Tomato sauce was fairly tasteless and not a lot of sausage - did not finish the dish and no desire to take leftovers home. Was over-charged for the appetizer, but was quickly rectified. Ordered a cheese pizza to take home. Will likely go back, but will not be our go-to restaurant.
