This is a tough one because I've had two experiences and one was perfect. And because of that first visit where I ordered the lunch special and got served fresh and delicious individual pizza for my lunch with pepperoni on it, it was perfect. I did nothing but say nice things about crust for about the last four months telling people how their lunch special, they would make you your own personalized pizza fresh out of the oven. It was so good as a matter of fact that I decided to get it for my 90 year-old mother. And she only like sausage so I called to order it and pick it up to bring it home and asked instead of pepperoni or cheese, which are the only alternatives for the lunch menu. I ordered it with sausage, my mom's favorite. When I got there, I paid for it. I brought it home and when I opened it, there were two slices, not fresh at all, of sausage pizza. I called them and asked them about it and they said they don't always make fresh pizza for the lunch special, which is not something that I realize because that's what I got and the pieces of pizza they gave me, that they knew were for my 90 year-old mother were not very attractive and certainly not fresh. So of course I didn't serve them to my mom because being 90 she complains a lot. And I didn't want to give her any fuel. The first pizza I was given was fresh and delicious and the best tasting pizza I've ever had in California the second time I ordered I ate the sausage pizza that they wanted me to serve my mom and they were only mediocre. So originally I would've given them on Yelp five stars for my original visit but now I have to give apologies to everyone. I told how terrific their lunch special was with individualized pizzas for the lunch special and those people probably got what I got the second time around which was mediocre pizza and so that's why they got two stars. That was kind of the average for me because five stars and then one star so I didn't wanna give three stars because the second visit was so bad, they knew it was for my mom, and they actually kind of remembered me from the first time because I loved it so much and didn't explain to me at all that I wasn't going to get a fresh out of the oven pizza even though it's not even offered on the menu as a lunch special cheese or pepperoni. I'm just wondering where they got these two stray pieces of sausage pizza that is not even on the menu to be sold by the Slice. So probably won't be going back and a little depressed by it All. A very sad comparison to what it used to be when these businesses were still connected to the Solana Beach location. They've gotten rid of everything that made crust so special. I once ordered an Aperol spritz, and it was made with some kind of berry liqueur and what I'm still confident was white wine instead of Prosecco. The drink tasted like a strange fruity Chardonnay. The saddest part is what's happened to the steak salad and the Arden pizza. They no longer use filet mignon on either and instead use a flat iron steak. It's gritty, chewy, and completely undesirable. It's really unfortunate how far this restaurant has fallen. It's not much further to go to the Solana Beach location if you're craving Crust and its original integrity. read more

Took my daughter there tonight for the first time. The food was good. Service was bad. You should never have to get up and ask if you can have silverware after your food is laid out. Both the server who was also bartending and the food runner never asked if we needed anything or if we were ok. I also had to get their attention to ask for salt and pepper. Then I had to do the same for parmesan cheese for the pasta. It was really odd. It's restaurant service 101. There was hardly anyone there either so it shouldnt have been an issue. That's what I usually order when I go there after dropping my daughter off at her tennis lesson. The service is very friendly and the restaurant has a bar area that's usually playing some sports game. I haven't made my way to the other areas of the restaurant but I'm sure it's very nice. I'll say this, my negative review doesn't seem to matter as they had a wait for tables on a Wednesday evening. Locals like to stay local. Pros: Food was decent, but keep in mind all we had was lasagna and salads. Lasagna only comes with cheese, if you want meat they'll top it (incorrectly) but it had a meat on it. Caesar salad was romain lettuce and 3 croutons with 3 tomatoes. Greek salad standard. Cons: Lasagna cheese only single piece $19- want meat? Add $10 and they'll throw some of the wrong meat on top, asked for crumbles sausage, got sliced which they couldn't eat because of chewing issues. Caesar salad $13 for lettuce and 3 tomatoes, but hey add some chicken for $10 and you have a $23 "full" salad that is a single serving. Greek Salad $16- this "full" salad was only big enough to be an appetizer for my petite wife. Don't ask for protein or you 'll add another $10. OHHH, don't forget to add 3% for you to come pick it up yourself! I guess for packaging? But let's keep in mind we didn't dirty plates or have anyone wait on us. So for a single serving of Lasagna and 2 salads and some bread you're at $80!! My fav part is the lasagna was put in a bag with salad, they hot bread was in a separate bag with a salad. So instead of the hot items together lets make the salads hot.......common sense is not so common. By far the worst restaurant experience I've had. It was my second time there. First time the food was really great and had a nice experience. This time I never got my food, so I cannot comment on it, but the service was terrible. Sat at the bar. It was Sunday and not busy. I know they do a big take out business, but that shouldn't get in the way of me sitting at an empty bar (2 others) and waiting 5 minutes to be acknowledged and given a menu. The bartender was literally 2ft away. I ordered a meatball sub. Not too difficult. At the 35-40 minute mark I asked the inattentive bartender if she actually put in the ticket in for my sub. She had to ask the cook if he made made my sub. He said no. She said, how long..."5 minutes". In other words, I'll do it now. The cook seemed put out by this question. While at the bar I watched a pizza sit for 10 minutes before it was served. The table it was going to was 6 feet away. The bartender and the server kid walked past it at least 10 times. It had to be cold. Won't go back. Don't need to hear your sorry for my experience or you were trying a new system. It was people issue. Need a manager on-site. read more

This review is strictly based on the pizza. I was born in NY and just got back from a visit to NYC... this is not NY pizza. They claim NY "style" pizza and I guess in the broadest sense of the term it is because it's thin. But that's the only way I would consider this NY style pizza. We ordered out and chose the "Kelly" pizza, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, mushroom and red onion (we got it without the onion). First appearance, it looks good but a bit different than traditional pizza. The pepperoni was cut pieces instead of traditional round slices. That really doesn't matter but the taste was also different; very bland and not spicy like traditional pepperoni. The sausage was much the same. A very bland tasting sausage, not at all spicy like most sausage on pizza. The sauce was like the meats... bland. It was like a plain tomato paste from a can or jar. The crust is thin and the cheese was good. Again, this is only about the pizza but as far as pizza goes, it was just average. I've had worse (Domino's) but I wouldn't order it again. read more

When the server came out he apologized for the wait and gave me the menu. Didn't mention any specials. When he came back I let him know I was looking at the Artichoke app as a meal or the chicken parmesan. The chicken parmesan came with Brussel sprouts and carrots instead of pasta, so I went with that. In all fairness- he said he had never tried the chicken parmesan. I must admit. I wish I hadn't either. I was underwhelmed to say the least. The veggies were cold but, had a good flavor. The sauce on the chicken parmesan was cooked well and had a nice crispness to it. The was disappointing- a little thick which would be ok if it was more flavorful. Received Garlic bread but, there was really no sauce to dip it in. For $18.00 I want to say YUM when I'm eating! I sat outside which was super noisy with the cars going by. I noticed there were outdoor speakers- It may have cancelled out the noise to have some nice Italian music. This is a 2 star restaurant when going to it. Take-out they are 3.5. When you go there to eat: If there is *any* sort of a crowd, expect to wait a long time. Silverware, plates and wine glasses are typically dirty. Over the last 4, 5 years we have eaten here maybe 10 times. 80% of the time we have to send something back because it is dirty. We go here only because it is 30 seconds from our house and we don't want to cook. The calamari is frozen and fairly poor quality. However their salads I think are great and the pizza is pretty good. That's why they get higher ratings for takeout. TLDR: Don't come here to eat, just get takeout and eat at home. It will be cheaper and you'll have a better dining experience. read more

I've been to this place about 7 times. Every time, we have to ask for a waiter. This last time we has to ask 2x and still no waiter. Maybe its because we sit outside. Who knows. All I can say is the service at this place SUCKS. I live a few blocks aways but I won't ever come back. The owner should hire people who know how to provide good service. Just came back from Crust Pizza today. Really disappointed with the service and the very RUDE behavior by all employees. We were the only people in the restaurant and it took over 40 minutes to get our order. All employees were having a great time laughing and on their lunch break. We asked for the check and the female blond bartender yelled profanities at us to get the F*** out! She kept on yelling at us! Wow! Unbelievable! I have been going here for years! Absolutely delicious! Stopped in for lunch and it wasn't packed at all tons of seats. They have a great outside seating area as well. I really liked the menu there was a lot to choose from and everything sounded so good. We had started with the calamari and it was crunchy and had 3 different delicious sauces with it. They were really great there was a pesto one, marinara, and one that had a bit of a tarter sauce flavor(my fav) and it paired perfectly with the he calamari. The sandwiches are delicious! I had the vegetarian sub and it was so flavorful and was packed with delicious fresh ingredients. The garlic fries were some of the best fries I've had! I highly recommend them, they are perfect and the garlic flavor is the perfect amount. They had a huge menu of tons of pizzas that sounded delicious, and they also have pizza by the slice(cheese or pepperoni). We had got 1 slice of cheese pizza and it was huge, and had really great flavor for just a cheese pizza! Overall I highly recommend this place, the food was incredible.
