I've driven past Rosario's Pizzeria more times than I can count, but I never thought to stop in because, from the outside, it honestly looks more like a neighborhood market than a pizzeria. If you didn't grow up in the area, you'd probably drive right by without realizing there's a great pizza spot inside. After seeing a TikTok video that made their pizza look incredible, I finally decided it was time to give it a try--and I'm so glad I did. Whenever I'm trying a new New York pizzeria, I always judge it by a plain cheese pizza. This time, I ordered a whole plain pie instead of individual slices because I think that's the fairest way to evaluate a pizzeria. A fresh pie tells you so much more than a slice that's been sitting in the display case. I also grabbed a mushroom slice and one of their Italian rice balls. Everything was delicious. The plain pie had exactly what I look for in a classic New York pizza, the mushroom slice was excellent, and the rice ball was flavorful and satisfying. Honestly, my biggest disappointment is that I didn't discover this place sooner. On top of the great food, the guys working there were incredibly friendly, efficient, and welcoming. Rosario's is an institution, plain and simple. Immortalized in an Action Bronson FTD video, this old school Italian deli at the N/W's northern terminus of Ditmars is legit. The pizza, when old man Rosario is whipping them up, ranks in the city's top ten. Get a slice, get a pie, impress your out-of-town friends who foolishly think that pizza's pizza. As a deli, you can in fact shop for other food items and pantry staples here. In addition to pizza, they make some delicious sandwiches, too. I typically go for The Famous One: chicken cutlet, prosciutto, mozzarella cheese, roasted peppers, or cherry peppers on fresh hero bread. This might be the sandwich that unites our nation. read more

Came here for a slice and it absolutely did not disappoint! Ordered a plain and a pepperoni and both were fantastic. The slice was thin and the crust was nice and airy with a perfect crunch. The sauce had a sweetness to it and the mozz on top (which I read they make themselves in house) was so fresh. At $3 for a plain slice of this caliber these days, I will absolutely be back ... and I'm excited to try some of that sandwiches & sides from the deli counter, they look excellent. Decided to try this place after seeing a few videos on social media praising how good this place was. Saw it was on Ubereats, we decided to order dinner. Saw the pizza was good and the sandwiches were better than other places. Order a few sandwiches and slices of pizza. After getting the delivery, that's when it started to go down hill. Order the famous one sandwich with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and spicy chipotle mayo and all we got was what was originally on the sandwich and no oil, no vinegar and no spicy mayo. All we got was a dry bland sandwich. Then realized the slices of pizza we order were missing from our order. And the final chicken parm sandwich. I don't know why but the sandwich, mainly the bread was covered in white flour. Had to wipe it all off. Taking the first bite, the sandwich was so bland. All I ate was bland fried chicken cutlet, bland tomato sauce and cheese. Had to add salt and garlic powder just to add some flavor but it didn't help much. Need to stop taking recommendations off social media. This place wasn't that good. Waste of money. read more

Rosario's originated in 1986 and is a deli counter, sandwich shop, pizzeria, and grocery all rolled into one. There's a communal table and one two-person table but it's primarily a to-go spot, I'd say.  It appears that if you just want pizza, you can walk over to the pizza area in the back and order your slices there. But if you want sandwiches/prepared foods/deli meats, you wait in the line that runs from the register towards the entrance. Rosario's can get crowded at peak times. Some of the guys working are a little friendlier than others, but no one's rude or anything.  A plain slice is a little over $3 and it is sensational! The sauce isn't too sweet, and the homemade mozzarella elevates the whole thing. The first time I tried it, the slice was lukewarm but I knew immediately that I wanted to enjoy the pizza again in the very near future. The sandwiches are good but the pizza is really remarkable. So maybe 4 stars for the sandwiches and 5 for the pizza? I'll round to up 5. read more

I've shopped in this place for years and I never bothered ordering their pizza. I figured, "why would a deli have good pizza?" But a few weeks ago I did, and the pizza is phenomenal. I mean really phenomenal. It's the kind of pizza you get not from a typical neighborhood slice shop, but from a vintage pizza restaurant with an ancient oven. I don't know if their oven is wood or coal fired, but I believe it's one of them. I got sausage slices there not long ago and you could tell that it was very high quality sausage, but everything about the pizza was great: very tasty sauce and cheese and a crispy, no-flop tasty dough. (Warning: after you have their pizza, you won't be able to go back to your average neighborhood slice place. ) Their regular deli products are superior as well. Even aside from the imported cold cuts, even if you get something like Boar's Head ham, which you can get anywhere, it's remarkably better here because it's always super fresh, moist (is there something special about their refrigerator?) and they know how to slice it. You never get ugly, shredded slices like all of the supermarkets I go to always do. Their fresh foods are great as well. Their fried chicken cutlets are pretty great and one sort of strange thing I noticed is than when I buy their fresh roast peppers, they last in the fridge for a long time. When I buy them in a jar, once opened, they go bad in a few days. I just wish they were in my neighborhood instead of Astoria. read more

There's no shortage of great Italian Delis in Astoria. I've tried most of them and I have to say, Rosario's is my favorite. The Al Pollo sandwich is my go to when I want some of the best chicken cutlets around. Portion size is strong, despite many other places cutting back. The prices are fair and quality is high. I wandered into Rosario's on my way to the Astoria-Ditmars (N) station one afternoon, simply because it looked like a charming little vestige of pre-gentrified Ditmars Blvd. The storefront is fairly large, and the shelves are packed with pantry goods ranging from olive oils to tinned fish imported from Italy. I found the prices to be quite reasonable and really enjoyed the large selection of goods available. While I was quietly perusing the shelves, I noticed that a majority of customers who walked in made a beeline to the right side of the store, where the deli/pizza counter was. I wasn't able to try a slice at the time, but after hearing rave reviews about their pizza, I was finally able to get my hands on their Polpette pie ($27) which features meatballs from a family recipe sliced thinly to resemble pepperoni. I'm not a huge meats lover on pizza but I was pretty blown away by how delicious it was. The marinara sauce was bright and perfectly acidic, the meatball discs tender and seasoned, and the dough tossed thin enough for a good crunch but robust enough to prevent any floppiness from the weight of the mozzarella. I've eaten a good amount of pizza in Astoria, and Rosario's easily takes top 3 (maybe even top 1)! I'd love to return and try their margherita slice and their sandwiches too. read more

Rosario's has survived! They have a huge selection of imported Italian goods. Chocolate croissants, biscuits, sodas & other pantry items. I was here for the pizza though. I've read & heard a lot of rave reviews of the pizza here. I can proudly say they deserve all the hype they get. They make their mozzarella fresh in-house which I appreciate so much. That mixed with their light sauce & slightly char on the bottom & slightly burnt cheese bubbles makes for an epic pizza! You just have to try it for yourself. Rosario's can go toe-to-toe with any of New York City's heavy hitters in the pizza game. Staff is very nice & friendly. Prices are very fare. Rosario's in Forest Hills is one of those neighborhood staples. Whether you're grabbing a quick slice or sitting down for a full Italian dinner, this place hits the mark. The pizza has thin crust, perfectly crisp, with just the right amount of cheese and sauce. I tried the classic margherita and a vodka slice, both were excellent. The vodka slice especially was creamy, flavorful, and indulgent without being too heavy. I also had their chicken parm hero on a whim, and wow crispy, juicy, and drenched in delicious marinara. It's the kind of sandwich that makes you nostalgic even if you didn't grow up eating it. The atmosphere and the staff is fast, friendly, and always on top of thing even during the dinner rush. I really have no idea why, as a lifelong Astoria resident, I only had Rosario's pizza just this weekend. OMG, it did NOT disappoint. It has become my legit go to pizza in Astoria. How did I sleep on this? The sauce is delicious. There is some sweetness to it which I absolutely love. The cheese, so fresh. The crust on both the Traditional and Grandma (Sicialian) was so damn tasty and just as good reheated. DO NOT SLEEP ON THEIR PIZZA. Get it. Enjoy it. Savor it. So delicious! While on line waiting to order, I also got their macaroni and potato salads. YUM YUM YUM. The macaroni was so vinegary. Just how I like it and the potato salad was closer to the german kind (which is my favorite in flavor). I'll be back. I will definitely try the rice balls next! read more

I ordered a half mushroom, half sausage pie for delivery. I'm offering 3 stars because the slices that actually had the toppings I paid for were very, very good, though thick cut mushroom on a ridiculously thin crust pizza can make for floppy, messy eating - still it was tasty. That said, the sausage half of the pie had barely any toppings at all (literally no more than 8 crumbs of sausage across 4 slices) and parts of slices were completely devoid of cheese. This tells me one of two things occurred - either the pie I ordered was made incompetently, doubtful but possible, or someone made a bit of a snack of bits of my pie en route to my home. This leads me to a strong recommendation for Rosario's - stop sealing your boxes with little stickers that can easily be peeled back and the box opened by hands that aren't the customer's. Either staple your box shut properly, or use real tamper tape. Sadly I have reduced confidence in ordering delivery from here again. read more

I came here for a quick slice of pizza. It's more of a Italian market with a pizzeria inside. There were two guys that were behind the counter that ignored me while I was at the counter. A third worker acknowledged me and took my order right away which was just a slice of cheese pizza. They have like two tables off to the side which was nice. It allowed me to sit down and enjoy this pizza. The slice was large and had a very thin and crispy crust. The cheese and sauce ratio was also just right. Overall a very New York style pizza for an affordable price. It's not the best I've had in NYC, but I wouldn't hesitate coming back. Yeah, this place is awesome. This place screams Italian deli. It's so old school and it is awesome. It's an Italian store, sandwich shop and pizzeria in one. I love the old man that is in there, he looks like the perfect person to be in a place like this. The food: Pepperoni Sausage Pizza- Made with homemade fresh mozzarella cheese, homemade sausages, pepperoni and tomato sauce complete with hand-tossed dough. Great smell, the smell was very distinct. I thought the overall flavor was great and I liked the dough that was closer to the crust since it was a bit thicker and the crust was great. The thing I loved, it wasn't dripping with oil when you do the fold. The Famous One Sandwich- Chicken cutlet, prosciutto, mozzarella cheese, roasted peppers. I thought the chicken cutlet was excellent, really flavorful and juicy, they added a nice seasoning to the bread crumb when they cooked it. I thought the mozz was amazing and the roasted red peppers was a nice addition but I found the sandwich to be a bit dry or missing some nice tomatoes or something, even some balsamic would have been nice. I also found the bread to be on the dry side. Tirolese Sandwich- Speck, arugula, tomatoes, and shaved parmesan cheese. I thought the flavor of the speck was really nice but a tad too salty for me. There was such a pronounced flavor from the speck. The shaved parmesan was really delicious, it really added so much flavor to the sandwich. But just like above, I felt the sandwich came off on the dry side, I felt it was missing some kind of dressing and the bread was dry. After listening to Action Bronson rave about the pizza here on The Roommates Podcast ( Go Knicks!), I just had to give it a try. Located right next to the N/W train station amin Astoria/Ditmars, this place was easy to find. The pizza shop is inside an Italian grocery which instantly gave it old-school vibes. The dropped by on a Thursday early afternoon and the place was not too crowded. I ordered a cheese slice and my food came out in less than 5 mins from ordering. Seating is communal. The pizza here is solid, nice, light, and crispy. It reminded me of the neighborhood slices I had as a kid living in the Bronx. BUT, it's missing that chew that I'm looking for. That mix of crisp and chew is what makes the best pizzas for me. Something that my all-time favorite Bleecker street pizza has. Slices here get a 4/5 from me. Also tried their Giuseppe sandwich. It's thinly sliced Porchetta with Provolone and broccoli Rabe heated on a roll. A classic combination. The sandwich is solid. Nice and hefty, it could easily feed 2 people. At $13.50 though it's a little pricey. The sandwich gets a 4/5 from me. Stop by for a good, classic, neighborhood slice. read more
