As a big fan of food baby I had to check out their new pizza shop asap! I came in a little after 6:30pm and to my surprise everything was sold out! Everything except for their Panna ice cream! I saw the whole gang there which was so exciting to see the fam for the first time. I ended up picking the Sammy special ice cream. My girl Sam knows the best flavors, chocolate with sprinkles in the middle! I love the picture frame wall they have of all the kids since they were babies. Great vibes all around honestly. I need to come back to try their pastas and pizza!!

Cuisine: 7 Service: 8 Decor: 7 Value: 8 Overall: 8 Let me start off by saying that I am extremely happy that someone decided to take over the old space vacated by a neighborhood favorite, Lillian's Pizza. I grew up in the area and enjoyed a slice here quite often. It was sad to watch it close, then reopen, only to see it close again. This time, the new owners are local celebrities since the whole family has practically grew up in front of our eyes on social media. If you don't know @foodbabyny on IG and you're a foodie, then you have been living under a rock. Mike is a very nice guy, and his kids are adorable. Having a family owned business operated by someone that grew up in the neighborhood just feels like a win. Masani is not trying to be Lillian's Pizza. It's trying to build its own legacy with a different style of pizza and a more lively warm atmosphere. On grand opening day, my favorite new addition was the cashier who took my order with the biggest smile and the warmest voice. As for the food, I tried four different slices and some garlic knots. To be completely honest, it still needs a little work, but they did just open. What I loved was that the thin crust had the perfect char and the dough had such a delicious aftertaste. What I would prefer is slightly less chew and a more crispy rather than hard crust. The sauce was a tad salty on this day, so hopefully they can balance that better down the road. On the other hand, don't change the garlic knots because they were very good. Soft and fluffy, with plenty of garlic. I think they are better than 90% of the garlic knots out there. Btw, if they still have any more of the limited edition ice cream collaboration with Caffè Panna, then you should definitely buy some. I took a dozen on grand opening day and really enjoyed both flavors. I do hope Masani keeps working on perfecting their pizza because I think it has real potential. I'll be back soon to try the apps, salads, pastas and desserts. We need to continue supporting businesses that mean something to the neighborhood. I get the feeling that Masani has a chance to become exactly that. I wish them nothing but the best of luck.

I love seeing a local family being able to put back into the community and that's just what the Chau family did. It's even better seeing the support they are getting each day at the newly opened Masani PIzza. Husband and wife were right there along with the rest of the staff working very hard. Arriving during a break from some summer storms, there was a line to the door, which remained consistent while we were there. They kept the vibe old school and cozy. I love the picture wall which includes the original owners of the spot, Lillian's Pizza. We tried a few items to get a feel of the menu. The Regular Slice brought me back to how I remember a NY slice tasting. The crust has a nice chew with flavor and the sauce and cheese are balanced. It was delicious. The Cacio e Pepe slice was equally good. Not too over the top, but simple with just the right amount of cheesy goodness. The Radiatori with Vodka Sauce was very tasty. The sauce itself was creamy without being over the top and the pasta was nicely coated in it. We added a meatball to the pasta. The flavor of the meatball was good, with a hint of spice from some crushed red pepper, but the texture of the meatball was too soft IMO. It ate more dumpling vs meatball. I think someone added too much panade to the meat. Items came out fairly quick given how busy they were. I will say the slices are a little on the smaller size for a higher price, but given the deliciousness of the slices, i didn't feel too bad about it. Wishing the Chau family best of luck and I hope the lines continue for a successful business venture.

TLDR: There's not that many pizza places I think of visiting. For Queens it's really just New Park but I would gladly visit Masani again. Definitely try the chicken/broccoli slice, pepperoni garlic knots and vodka pasta. I do love the story of the family who took over Masani which was a neighborhood shop for them. There's something modern about it yet nostalgic at the same time. I visited opening day and despite the line (as expected) - everything was great. Typically you wait this long things either fall far below or exceed your expectations. Fortunately it was the latter. The A&J (chicken/broccoli) was very memorable for me. The cutlet was still tender enough, the breading was crispy and it all worked very well. The crust overall is quite thin with a fantastic but delicate crunch as you bite through. The supreme (more places need to have this) was great with plenty of meat/veg. The cheese was all very proportionate, often it's too little or just too much. The pepperoni slices were tasty and I like how it's the smaller beef pepperoni slices. The cacio e pepe slice was also unique and very enjoyable. Nice sharpness from the pecorino and the black pepper. Pepperoni garlic knots came with marinara on the side to dip for some brightness, the pepperoni in the middle is like a little surprise as you eat through it. The pasta is from Brooklyn Pasta Lab and the radiatore vodka was excellent. A very pleasant chew, the sauce was well-balanced. Not too creamy, not too heavy - just perfect. Unfortunately they ran out of meatball. There also seems to be rotating dessert specials. I waited awhile so I did sample a lot of the slices and had leftovers. They reheated beautifully in a skillet for dinner. I live giving local support to small businesses but obviously things must be good. I'm looking forward to the next time I'll visit.

As a native New Yorker, I take pizza seriously. It's nice to see that the folks at Masani do, as well. In terms of ambiance, the shop is clean and welcoming. They're enjoying virality, so expect a line when you visit (10 minutes at lunch time). Okay, now on to the pizza: I favor a saucey slice, and had hoped to try their Grandma, unfortunately, it was sold out at 1pm. I went with their Vodka and the Hot Head (extra crispy) slices. Both were flavorful with firm crusts. The cheese adhered to the slice well, but if gooey cheese sliding off of the slice is your preference, you won't get it here. My one "small" gripe: the slices are small, but this is ameliorated by way of quality. Overall, the hype is well earned. Pizza lover approved.

    Cheese, Sicilian, vodka, cacio

It had been a while since I'd had a pizza that really impressed me, and Masani absolutely did. The restaurant is small with that classic old-school NYC neighborhood pizza shop feel, which I loved. The line can move a little slowly, so keep that in mind when you join the queue, but it's definitely worth the wait. It's a family-run business, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming that I really didn't mind waiting. I ordered four different slices and had each one cut in half so I could try them all. The cheese slice was hands down my favorite. I always judge a pizza place by its plain cheese slice, and this one was outstanding. My second favorite was the cacio e pepe, which was incredibly flavorful. I also tried the vodka slice and the Sicilian. The Sicilian looked hefty, but it was surprisingly light, airy, and fluffy, and the vodka had a really good sauce. I was really hoping to try the garlic rolls since I'd heard amazing things about them, but unfortunately they were sold out. I'll definitely be coming back for those. To finish, I ordered a lemon Italian ice, and it was the perfect ending. It tasted incredibly fresh and had a smooth, refreshing texture. The next time I'm in Forest Hills, I'll def be back. Beyond the great pizza, I really appreciated the warm, family atmosphere. Family-run businesses are becoming harder and harder to find in NYC, and it's something I truly value. Great food, great people, and a place that's easy to root for.

Masani is an amazing addition to the growing Forest Hills food scene. Among the things that Masani has going for it is location. As others have noted, it's in the former Lillian's Pizza space, which is a classic pizza place that was in dire need of some TLC after the original owners sold. The lovely family that owns Masani have really restored that original vibe of a go to neighborhood spot while updating it to stand out in modern foodie culture. The crust is amazing, sauce well balanced, and prices are reasonable. And, while lines to get in are still long a week plus after opening, staff is friendly and working their butts off. There's a lot of love for both pizza and the neighborhood, as evidenced by the decor and the vibe, which feels like a great counterweight to the chains over on Austin St. We hope that Masani sticks around for as long as Lillian's did, and then some.

This was pretty amazing. The cheese, cacio, and Sicilian slices were all excellent, and the garlic knots and pinwheels were both best in class, in my opinion. The house and Caesar salads were also really excellent, especially for a pizza place. Then to top it off, the vodka pasta was excellent, and the meatballs were pretty incredible. We went on a very busy night with a bunch of little kids and they nailed this all the way around. Very impressive.

Second time here. Had fresh regular slice and it was delicious. The crust is perfectly charred. Hubby had a hot honey slice with pepperoni and it was really good too. We shared linguini marinara with a side of meatballs. I'm usually cautious with meatballs and these were a great surprise. They were flavorful with a slight touch of heat and very meaty. No fillers here! The pasta was al Dente and you could tell it was fresh pasta not from a box. We r very happy to have a great pizza spot in this neck of Forest Hills

We ordered takeout finally to try. Ordered a grandmas & regular cheese pies. It was good but not mind blowing to our family. The dough was nice on the grandmas but our family still prefers another local pizza joint. Service was long wait and they don't take phone orders so not worth the hype for the wait.

An amazing addition to FH. The food here is phenomenal. From the pizza to the meatballs to the pasta, they really have it down to a science. Plenty of seating but boy do they get packed around 6pm! Their A&J slice is great and I love their vodka sauce. Their caico e Pepe... run don't walk! So so so good. Plus they're incredibly friendly... welcome to the neighborhood!

Given the hype all over social media, I was super excited to try Masani. I had a few items - the regular slice, cacio e pepe, and the garlic knots, and unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. The cacio e pepe slice was unique, and was better than the regular, which unfortunately tasted like day old reheated pizza. Considering I was there close to open, it had to have been fresh, which made the overall taste a bit puzzling. The garlic knots are very dense and chewy, which isn't a bad thing, but not like anything I've had before. All in all, glad I tried it, but I'm going to have to come back and give it another shot at some point in the hopes it was just an off pie.

    A (very thin) Grandma slice
    Bryan Z.

Currently eating as I type: Initial thoughts: Why is the grandma slice so damn small? And why are these all so thin? Grandma slice: It's a little salty. And the slice is a little harder than I'd expect. I've had worse and I've had better. 3/5 Vodka slice: Sauce is good, though also on the salty side. Dough has more reasonable amount of give. Crust is good. 4/5 Plain slice: Seriously, why is it salty? And yet, it's also...somehow bland? And man...this is a small slice. Quite disappointing. 2/5 Garlic knots: Decent give to the knots and they managed not to make it too salty. Good flavor. 4/5 We also got the ice cream sandwich because, well, *it's ice cream.* (Also, it has ube, so I'm genetically obligated to have it ) They didn't make it, but I guess they get some credit for selling it...but I digress. Good ube flavor, nice texture to the ice cream and the sandwich sides. $12 is a bit steep, but it would beat a Van Leeuwen cookie ice cream sandwich, hands down. Easily the best thing ordered today. 5/5 Also, service was pleasant but slow. 4/5 Overall: 17/25 (22/30 if you include the ice cream sandwich): by NYC DOE standards, this would be passing. And I'd say that's how I'd describe it: if I'm passing through, maybe I'll stop by. But it definitely wasn't worth the 15 minute walk across Forest Hills. I'm willing to give it another try in a couple of months on a quieter day, in the hopes they improve their overall technique. And hey, maybe eating the food right away on-site might be more enjoyable? That being said, I'm definitely ordering their "Heimknick Maneuver" merch now: I want that poster and t-shirt but don't know how much longer this place stays open after the buzz dies down if they don't do something about the taste (and size) of the pizza.

The chefs did an amazing job cooking it just right. I also loved the fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. It really elevated the pizza to another level. The crust was great all around with a slight oven char. Lastly the calzone took me by surprise as it had no sauce and was filled with ricotta cheese as opposed to mozzarella. It came with a small cup of hot marinara sauce for dipping/pouring. It was definitely an interesting calzone but don't think it was worth the price. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and Nick's and would highly recommend it. I do wish the pricing was a bit more fair when it came to full vs half pie toppings as well as the calzone.

I felt slightly intimidated from the look of the place on the outside because it would seem like a middle class to upper class Restaurant but inside, it does look very nice but the setting is very much casual for its basically an upscale Pizzeria. However I didn't have pizza in mind, I went for something bigger and that would be the Chicken Parmigiana along with Root Beer which tallied up to $32 so not too bad. I contemplated about getting Dessert but I ultimately forgone it, which was a good decision in the long run because the chicken parm order was surprisingly hefty. I've gotten used to smaller portions being served in restaurants nowadays and I was expecting I'm gonna be hungry later eventually, but I sure was proven wrong. Sure I felt uncomfortable, bloated and sluggish after eating that meal but I will take that any day in the week over feeling unsatisfied and unfulfilled because if you're gonna spend $30+ on a meal, you SHOULD get your money's worth and that was a meal I could very well split with two and felt very fine with that.
