When passing Whitestone on the Cross Island....my heart always pulls me off the exit and to Freddy's. I grew up down the street....and nothing at Freddy's has changed.... Quite a unique find-- sesame seed crusted Sicilian pizza! Recommended by a chef friend of mine, and I was eager to try it. This is above average neighborhood pizza, both the round pie and the Sicilian. Sicilian: Crunchy crust that reminds me of focaccia bread. The sesame underside gives each bite a toasty flavor that complements the square. Very cheesy with sweet tomato sauce that tastes fresh. Not greasy, and you don't feel heavy after eating it. Round: Decent crunch with nice structure. Balanced pizza that isn't greasy. Would love to get pepperoni next time to compare! Delivery on a Saturday evening was only 20 minutes! I have been going to Freddy's since I was 10yrs old. I have to take 1-2 stars down due to the service and food. The new people working at the front need some training and to really listen what customers are saying. I ordered 1 slice and 2 sicillian slices to go, I see him put 1 sicillian and 1 slice into the oven. He comes to me and I give him a friendly reminder it is 2 sicillian and 1 slice, he replied with a little attitude and said "I KNOW", then charge me 10.85, sounds right. Now I am waiting and thinking when he pull the food out, he going to be missing 1 sicillian, sure enough when time to box my food, boom 1 missing sicillian. Worse, he pull out the food, put it in the box and let get cold while he makes me wait for another sicillian to be heated. In terms of the food...sad...it not the same as before...sad..very sad.... the pizza has been changed to what it was originally...sad ..very sad... Freddy's pizza is always perfection, perfect crispy crust, thickness is just right, sauce is delicious. Their old fashioned and Sicilian are both phenomenal and you can never go wrong with a regular pie. We also always order food as well, penne vodka-excellent, their grilled chicken Chicken francese and chicken cutlets -wonderful. Pretty solid pizzeria that has been in Whitestone forever! I have been here multiple times over the years. Is it my favorite? No, but they have beaten most of the other pizzerias in the area, so there is that. The inside is very nice and clean for a pizzeria. It feels like a pizzeria when you walk in. Nice, bright, but still has a classic pizzeria feel to it. It feels like a half step up from other pizzerias. Food is pretty solid. No real complaints. I have stuck with the za most of the time, I haven't had the opportunity to try their dinners or anything like that. Their pizza is pretty good. A nice crust, needs a tad bit more flavor, a little dry as well. But dunk the crust in sauce, and bang zoom! Their sauce has got a really great flavor as well, not too acidic. Their cheese is pretty good! Needs a tad bit more salt or something to make it perfect. But good overall. Staff has always been friendly whenever I have gone. All in all a really solid pizzeria in Whitestone. If you don't go to Pizza Chef in the shopping center, this is your next best bet! read more

Tried Freddy's last weekend after stumbling on Portnoy's review of the place. Had a regular slice, a vodka grandma, and garlic knots. The vodka grandma was very good - super saucy and flavorful, and definitely something worth returning for. The knots were garlicky and oily and delicious. The plain slide was solid - but more of a four star than five star slice, and any pizza place should be judged on their regular slices. Could be that it was the last one from a pie in the showcase, so it was sitting for a bit, but I didn't think it lived up to Dave's hype from a fresh pie. read more

Just fantastic pizza. My daughter has a thing nearby and so we're in Whitestone every week, and we're at Freddy's nearly every time for dinner. Look, this is NYC so there's good pizza everywhere--but there are spots that everyone knows about and wants to tell you about. This place is a hidden gem. Their pizza is just absurdly good. And the longer we go, the more we realize Freddy's punches way above its weight class. There are places in Brooklyn and Manhattan probably paying 80x the rent and bragging 80x as hard on their Twitter about being on top ten lists, and they can't touch Freddy's. I'm ambivalent about this; I want more people to know about this place, but happy they don't so we can always get a place to sit. No one cares what some sports blog full of troll interns has to say about pizza. Just go eat there if you want to know what's up. This place is a joke on more than one occasion I've tried to order food 45-30 minutes before their closing time (9:30 on a Friday) and they tell me they are done making that for the day. Well you are done making me anything, because this pizza places food is nothing special compared with the ten other restaurants near it. Grandma slice with mozzarella, tomato and basil (see pic) is very aesthetically presented. Side Note: Of all the businesses in Whitestone, this one is of one of the very few who are against the idea of leaving a tiny counter-top donation can to support Whitestone's very own 100% FREE Volunteer Ambulance Service. Its very sad and unfortunate that they do not support their own community's free EMS station (which I might add is just ONE block away from them). I think this says a lot about their character and the kind of people they really are. While they have good pizza, myself and many (MANY) others will continue to boycott this specific business and give our money to other local pizza shops who do support. read more
