This place is heaven!!! I came here on vacation with my family and we were very pleasantly surprised with the food here. The short ribs and the basuga fish are impeccable. The entire felling of the place is very calm and nature oriented. I had no problem waking here in my sandals and bathing suit coverup. I had the pleasure of taking my wife to this "GEM" for her birthday! The place has an AMAZING vibe with a live DJ and a guy lighting it up on the conga drums! The food was delicious and the service was great! The manager was super attentive and very pleasant to speak with! We both share a love for sopas which was awesome! My wife was surprised with a delicious cake with fireworks to celebrate her birthday! It made her night that much more spectacular. This place deserves more stars! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Complete rip off, waiters are rude, they deceitfully added a tip to my bill even after I complained about the service- they took my card and pointed the machine away from me so I wouldn't see that they gave themselves a tip. Do yourself a favour and eat at any of the many better locations rather than this complete rip off establishment. The food is trash, not worth the money. We were seated next to the toilet despite booking months in advance. We waited at the door for 30 minutes before we were seated. First, all the other reviews have to be fake, because this place is horrible, from the service to the food. Let's start with the rude hostess right when you walk in, her attitude hits you 10 feet before you get in the door, honestly it's tulum, your only as good as your customer service, and first impression. Second, you basically get pushed to the side waiting forever for a table, reservation or not. I watched the whole scam go down. They make you wait at the bar telling you "20 mins for a table or so" than keep pushing the time back more and more trying to get more drinks ordered from you. The old restaurant wait at the bar bullshit, but the problem is you order drinks but they never make it out to you.... long story short at the end we asked for the manager bah bah bah ...he tried to help but with all incompetence in the kitchen to the staff nothing works. At the end we tried to order food which basically never came out either, and the food that finally came out of the kitchen was horrible with little favor, basically a full scam. I came here to celebrate Mother's Day and was beyond happy with our service and food. They were extremely attentive and even kept my 4 year old entertained (I could actually eat my food while it was still hot)! I ordered the Peruvian rice seafood and my husband ordered the rib eye, both of us were very happy with our choices and the portions were huge. The cocktails were strong and very good! Best dinner I have had in Tulum...best dinner I have had PERIOD in some time. The bread plate with salsa pairings was epic...the creamed corn empanada was something to write home about. The drinks are as equally inventive as they are tasty. But the steak was the of the show. I live in Los Angeles, where I get a great Prime beef steak on the regular. Mastro's in Los Angeles is the bar by which I measure a good steak. The Kobe beef steak I had at Rosa Negra was at minimum comparable to any steak I have had at Mastro's. They prepared it "charred, medium rare", to perfection. If you are a true steak aficionado...you know this is not an easy feat. To get that crispy outside crust without over cooking the inside is an art...one that Rosa Negra clearly has mastered. But the service is what sends this place over the top. Rutinof was our server and he was the perfect balance of attentive, yet not disturbing. And the General Manager Barba was an absolute wealth of knowledge re: the choices...and guided us through the menu with ninja like precision to ensure we did not miss any of the "must try" items. I would feel sorry for someone if they visited Tulum and did not get the opportunity to eat at Rosa Negra...an international destination in the making read more

Amazing experience. The service was better than anything I've ever had in the States. Reserved a table online for our Christmas dinner, and everything went so smoothly. Food was incredible, from seafood to pasta to the vegetables. The giant beet app was awesome as well, go for it!! A place that seems to be paying much attention to style and luxury ambiance. Dishes on the menu range from moderate to extremely pricey - especially if you go for choice stuff such as Kobe beef. Our experience tonight wasn't good. After letting us wait for a bit too long, our waiter knocked over our cocktail. This was then followed by two waiters tripping over my chair, another broken glass the table behind us and finally waiting for our main dish because the waiter had simply messed up our order. The whole place is trying to be very classy, but seems to have trouble mastering the very basics of solid, routined service. For this price category, this is inacceptable. I don't mind a good show, but if the service can't live up to what you are ultimately being charged, the entire experience isn't worth the money. The Cocktails were excellent. The food was alright, but overpriced. You can get a better, more authentic dining experience and ambiance with way better service in one of the beach clubs nearby. read more

If you're looking for a party in Tulum you MUST GO HERE. We went here on Thursday and it was the perfect start to the evening! I had read reviews that they only do the sparkler show on the weekends, but after we had asked they were happy to make it happen! The entire restaurant is lit up and turns into a huge party. Great music, great vibes and fresh food. We ended up coming back here 3 different times for drinks at the bar and to partake in the epic sparkler show. Late night the lights get dim, the music gets loud and bottles start flowing. Hector was the BEST server and our drinks never went empty. We will definitely be back! read more

this is a new happening hot spot in Tulum. They have a branch in Cancun and Mexico City. My friends and I were very impressed as we walked into the restaurant very chic and happening space. Lots of pretty people! Wonderful presentation from The Waiter on the food! And our starters were quite good! But they need to let you know that the portions are humongous. Our wedge salad which was $21 could feed three people!! The charrrd beet was huge and the street corn was also a large portion. Granted they charged a lot but you did get large portions. Should have let you know that so you didn't over order. Wonder if that was a plan or not on their part. On to the main course I had 4 nice shrimp but 50 US dollars! And they're supposedly local. My friend got a New York steak for around $50 which she really did not like at all overcooked and a bit grisly oh well..$225 for dinner. And everything was fun and good but a little expensive but it was a fun night out. Be aware music is on the loud side but that's part of the scene! I write this as I still sit here. Daniel, Aurelio, Hector and Samuel were amazing and made us feel like family! They were on top of everything, made sure we were more than happy and taken care of, plus the meal with amazing. My friends and I had an absolutely fabulous experience at Rosa Negra. It was a birthday celebration and we were glad we chose this place. In fact, we ended up going there for drinks the following night. Everything about this place is amazing. The food and drinks are delicious. Yes you pay American prices, but portions are decent and the presentation is worth it. It was so much better than Hartwood ( where they tried to overcharge us) or Ocumare where portions are so small that we ended up having food at a different place after. I cannot emphasize the professionalism of Rosa Negra staff and awesome service provided by Yonder and Ines. They also have a DJ which we loved. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

The presentation of the food was amazing, but the food tasted terrible. Way over-sauced too much vinegar on the ceviche, mushy rice and far too much soy sauce on the Peruvian rice seafood. The bread looks OUTSTANDING, but it was quite flavorless and the crispy octopis was chewy and salty and vinegary. Major disappointment since most all other food in Tulum has been incredible. As a person who has worked in the food and beverage industry for over 9 years it is safe to say that I know a thing or two about speedy service, food quality, table upkeep and sense of urgency; and our dinner at Rosa Negra this past Monday demonstrated the staff's ability to deliver that and more. We made a reservation through Open Table but like it would be expected, from three girls getting ready in the same room, we missed our reservation for being late. By the time we were done getting ready and at our hotel lobby asking for a Taxi to be called for us, it was 40 minutes past our reservation and the front desk agent from our hotel had expressed to us her difficulty trying to reach a cab driver. I decided to call the restaurant to let them know we were still coming and told Sophie, the hostess who answered the phone, our inability to attain a cab from our hotel. To our pleasant surprise, Sophie not only told us that our delay was completely fine but also that she would go out to the street and hail a cab (the area where Rosa Negra is located has a lot more traffic than our hotel at that given time) and send it to our Hotel to pick us up. Indeed, a cab driver was at our hotel 15 minutes later. Upon arrival Sophie greeted us with a warm welcome and told us that a table will be available shortly and walked us to the bar for a drink. We were sat at a table shortly after ordering drinks, and our server Erick and his assistant Leo greeted us upon arrival and managed to pull all of our chairs before we sat. Erick and Leo were in for a wild ride, my two girlfriends have multiple food limitations in regards to allergies, but Erick and Leo were very patient and diligent when it came to my friends' allergies while suggesting the food items and dropping them on the table. By the time we were done with our first course, we opted for the colossal king crab legs and grilled artichokes which were out of this world delicious, the table had been cleared, and reset for our main courses. My friend noticed that her electronic cigarette was missing and got really upset thinking that perhaps someone might have picked it up by accident while clearing the dishes. This situation became really uncomfortable quickly because all of the staff noticed my friends uneasy face expressions and i could tell everyone around me was looking and freaking out about the ecig. Erick approached us and told us they were digging through the garbage, we felt so bad and we quickly told them to cease the search that it was ok, but of course my friends face said it all. I didnt think it was possible that anyone would have picked it up by accident given how thorough they were with everything else. We aborted plans on dessert, but despite us not ordering anything sweet, they still brought a cake for my friends bday and three shots of mezcal, my friend's face still upset about her cigarette. Right before we asked for the check, my friend (the one whose ecig got lost) got up to go to the bathroom and shortly after Erick approaches our table and points at her chair, THE ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE WAS RIGHT THERE. We were mortified and apologized a million times to Erick and Leo they were SOOOO nice about it and even laughed at the whole thing. My experience at Rosa Negra was so amazing, the food is excellent but what makes this place so special is how much its staff cares about its guests. If youre ever in Tulum and reading this do yourself a favor and schedule Rosa Negra in for one of your dinners. read more

The staff is very friendly, but a bit slow at times, but we weren't in a hurry so that was all right. The portions is big and you'll never leave hungry. We dine out quite frequently and I do not write a lot of reviews only when I feel very strongly about a place and Rosa Negra is so outstanding it inspired me to let others know. The restaurant is beautifully appointed with some rather unique and interesting furnishings, the hostess was very friendly and helpful. The service was very attentive, they do have a lot of staff (even someone to show you to the restroom) but we didn't feel too overwhelmed. This is Ritz Carleton/Four Seasons level service in the Tulum jungle! Right on the road and open to the traffic noises, they somehow pull off an amazing combination of great food, drinks, service and music. A beautiful space with more attentive staff than you can imagine, this is instantly the hottest spot in Tulum. They bring a "purse tree" to the table for ladies. They have a "gin and tonic program" with a cart that mixes tableside drinks that smoke from dry ice, a bread basket with popovers with truffle oil and Parmesan, a seafood selection from around the globe (Nigerian tiger prawns!) that seems like it would be expensive but is so not, and portions that are beyond huge. Our salad could have been shared by 4. Edgar and Daniel were attentive without at all being annoying; so friendly while efficiently lighting candles and shuffling courses. Manager Ulysses somehow seems to be at every table at some point, answering any questions that you could ask. The DJ plays the room as if it had a dance floor: bringing the vibe up and down with mad skillz! I will not spoil for you what I assume is a nightly ritual that will live in your memory for years to come. Any entree can be shared by two and still not finished; the skirt steak was amazing and I saw others with the Kobe beef and nothing but smiles. read more

There are so many incredible places to dine in Tulum but Rosa Nega was probably my favorite while visiting Tulum. The ambiance, food, drinks, and service were all phenomenal. We ordered way too much food but it was totally worth it! Seeing the creative presentations and tasting the unique flavors in the open air was one of the best experiences of the trip. I strongly recommend the short ribs, empanadas and fish tacos- all the best flavors of Tulum! They give you these rolls which are fluffy buttery, almost like croissants-just go and try them. PS: I have super high expectations and this place totally won me over! read more

I've never written a review before but this experience drove me to do so. The wait staff was great the food was good but our meal was ruined just before our main course course arrived. A family was seated two tables away with someone smoking a cigar. I'm not sure what restaurants allow smoking cigars in amongst tables especially when charging the prices they do. The restaurant is open air and we could have dealt with a cigarette but a cigar that lasts for 30 minutes if not more is unacceptable. We mentioned our disappointment to the hostess who shrugged it off but eventually spoke to the manager who looked at us and did nothing. After a few bites of our main course we asked for the check as we had all lost our appetite. The server asked why and I explained we were no longer hungry due to the cigar smoke. The manager finally came over and offered us a complimentary dessert. Seriously the cheapest way out of the situation. They brought our check and gave us a 10% discount. For the prices they charge and the quality of food you can find equal elsewhere. There is much potential here. Positive criticism would be the portions could be a bit smaller, and the timing of the courses could be improved. I read criticism of lighting and the DJ but found the ambiance overall positive. I'd recommend it to others had the manager not utterly failed at understanding the basic principles of taking care of customers. If your restaurant is 2 1/2 months old and you have a party leave without eating their main course a 10% discount is nothing but an insult. This covers one of the cheaper dishes that we left behind. Extremely disappointed and will enjoy many of the other restaurants in the area. read more

My husband and I dined here early, 5:30pm-before the "party scene" so we were able to fully enjoy our meal and converse with each other. Excellent food, attentive service, and quite expensive. Upon entering we were greeted by 2 or 3 servers followed by the mixologist. She brought me a smoking gun and tonic drink; the size and the presentation were both shocking! We started with the tuna ceviche, fresh, flavorful and delicious! We both ordered fish; he had a salmon which was well seasoned and cooked in a cast iron pan. I had the sea bass-equally tasty. We shared the chipotle cheddar mashed potatoes, the meal was absolutely delicious. It was so filling that we requested a to go box. I must add that the food tasted just as good as it did in the restaurant later that evening...yummy! The only downside is we had to eat our to-go with our hands, so do ask for utensils :). We will definitely return and it will be early so we can fully enjoy each others company sans loud music and sparklers. It was a memorable meal and experience! read more

If you care even a little bit about the future of Tulum you will avoid this place. The food is overpriced and the vibe is just horrifying. Leaving aside the selfy zombies who have invaded Tulum like the seaweed, they trot out some guy playing a big african drum (badly) and then some fireworks that customers dance around with (which then go straight in the landfill). The rest of the time they crank mediocre club music interspersed with wedding music from the 70's. And it's so loud that they not only ruin the experience of their own customers, but also diners at the poor restaurants nearby which now have to live with this monstrosity. From the owners of Señor Frogs, one of the tourist traps in Cancun, they are now ready to ruin Tulum as well. Stay well away, and maybe these restauranteurs will go back to Cancun and stay there.
