Had some time to kill before our reservation at Ilios, so my friends and I came here for a couple appetizers and it ended up being such a great find. I've been eyeing Casa Banana every night we've been here and it felt so much more chill compared to all the surrounding party restaurants. It was the perfect stop for a reset. The vibe was top tier. So intimate and cozy, and it felt really nice sitting by the fire on such a chilly night. Our server Joaquin was so friendly and attentive and took great care of us. The octopus salad was so lovely, and the Argentinian chorizo was honestly one of the best chorizo I've had. Not very spicy, served with perfectly toasted focaccia and roasted vegetables. We also loved the pickled eggplant that came with it. They brought out complimentary toast and spread when we first arrived too which was so sweet. So happy we stopped here
Second time at casa banana with friends and it did not disappoint again! We had the: * Grilled beets and goat cheese salad- a must! A simple dish but so perfectly seasoned. * fish carpaccio. Nice balance of flavors tangy and just right. * baked Brie with figs app. This okay for me. * mushroom risotto- a vegetarian dish, woukd recommend this and we enjoyed it! Deep flavors and a generous portion. * babaganush - served on baguette slices , flavorful. * skirt steak- a must do since it is an Argentinian restaurant. Grilled perfectly and seasoned well! Service is amazing, ambience is casual and dressy at the same time, restrooms are clean. Michelin resto. Would highly recommend!
We were a party of eight, with three vegetarians in our crew. We picked this place because it has a number of vegetarian selections in addition to various meats prepared mostly in the Argentinian style. On the whole, I would say we were not disappointed. Our main server was Augustin, I believe, and he was pretty helpful. He pointed out to us that we would automatically be served a type of focaccia, but we nonetheless ordered the focaccia with the eggplant hummus. A good choice as they are different focaccia. One of the vegetarians in our party commented how delicious they thought this eggplant hummus was and marveled that it isn't seen more often in India. We also had the roasted artichoke carts, which I think for our party of eight should've been sliced in half in the kitchen rather than brought out the way they were. The artichoke hearts are quite large and therefore pose a mouthful. We also shared a couple orders of the octopus salad The octopus came out perfectly prepared. I was able to point out how this differ from the octopus tacos we had eaten elsewhere the night before. Those octopus tacos arrived at the table, kind of rubbery. These were not. Another of the young members in our party commented that this was the best octopus they had ever eaten. Before I proceed, I should note that the cocktails are very well prepared here. I had the Lilli Velvet which has both bourbon and Lillet in it and is very smooth and refreshing. So much so that I enjoyed two over the course of the evening since it is also offered post-meal. While the younger adults enjoyed their cocktails, us older adults ordered a bottle of Malbec. I'm sorry to say I don't recall which one but it was enjoyable without being too strong on the tannins. The ribeye weighs 1 pound before cooking, and since another person in our party ordered it, we probably should've shared. I had inquired whether it would be well marbled, since this is grass fed beef, and was assured it would be. Indeed it was. Here however I must confess I prefer American finished ribeye that I get at Costco. The Argentinian version has some sinew in it. This made it rather unexpectedly tough at times for medium rare. A thick cut Costco ribeye is noticeably more tender and cuts like butter. Another of the members of our party had the flank steak, which was declared pretty good, but the acclaimed winner was the skirt steak. I would say go with that cut. In comparison to other places, there's not much to the decor that sticks out to make it distinctive. That is fine. Subdued lighting in the company of friends and good conversation with good food is all I need. The kitchen did an excellent job getting everyone's food out together. For a party of eight that is a good mark.
Ok so we're in Tulum and we do adore the mom and pop shops with the awesome food. But there's comes a time when we do fancy dressing up to go sit down in a nice restaurant to smash on some fancy plates. Welcome to Casa Banana. An Argentinian Steak joint that was highly recommended. So let's get to the food shall we. Bread with Babaganouj - Crust was nice and crunchy. Not hard, its like a well risen focaccia. Babaganouj is seasoned nicely, but eggplant is subtle. 7/10 Skirt Steak Empanada - Dough is perfect, the meat filling is nicely seasoned. I adore a strong empanada 8.5/10 Sweet Breads - Of course it's nice and tender. Sweet bread Flavors are good to go. One of the strongest sweet breads I ever had. 9/10 Chorizo - The flavors are great, the snap from the casing is present. A nice herbal finish. 8/10 RibEye - Seasoned very well, medium rare was on point. Stands up by itself. Chimichuri needs to more vinegar. Other than that. 8.9/10 The place has really nice aesthetics. Service was top notch. I would highly recommend. If you're ever in tulum. Do give this spot a proper go at it and let me know what you think. Dinner again for 12 please! Wow! Amazing restaurant ambiance for a bach trip in Tulum. Service was excellent. I love how open the restaurant feels, very spacious. You can get a sneak a peak at the wood fire grill process in the back of the restaurant. We had a few appetizers to share, all sizes of the dishes are definitely shareable to allow maximum experience of tasting all dishes. Food was very flavorful and filling.
The ambiance, the customer service, the food, and the drinks were all amazing. I visited Tulum for my 50th birthday and Casa Banana did not disappoint. It's a must try..make a reservation and enjoy.
Maybe we tried them out on an off day, maybe it is a busy season. But as the first experience in a new city, this failed to leave a good impression of the place. Reservations can be made via OpenTable. If you are local, walk. Parking, driving in and around this area are a hassle because it's one narrow lane. (Side bar: Got a few judgy looks from the front desk as we ran to tell them we were there but needed to change out of our flight clothes). Most of whatever we ordered they seemed to be out of. Mind you, we are vegetarian/pescatarian. So the menu is already limited for people like us and then they were out of a majority of vegetarian dishes. Out of artichokes, out of lasagna, out of the good drinks marked special. The server started with telling us all things they were out of. Then when we tried to pick items, they were out of those too . So we just did some drinks and desserts. The dessert called textures of chocolate lacked its namesake, textures, flavor was alright. Drinks were ok. We still paid quite something for just 3 items and water, and service. Overall, a let down.
If you're looking for something in Tulum's beach zone that'll please your palette, you can't go wrong with Casa Banana. There's a lot of tables and the service is attentive. You'll find Argentinian inspired dishes on the menu. Drinks, appetizers, entrees, it's all good. I liked the empanadas, but the standout for me was the octopus salad. The octopus is grilled perfectly and paired wonderfully with the asparagus, baby potatoes, and light dressing. The bar has a lot of unique cocktails to choose from. Try the hot balam! I also had the lamb risotto, but I think the sea bass fillet was more impressive. The size of the fish is a lot, and it has a potato puree on the side with a little bit of veggies. Casa Banana is expensive, but the service and quality is worth it.
Best meal we had in Tulum! Great service, great food. Everywhere in Tulum is extremely overpriced but this place was WELL worth it. All American cocktails available (old fashioned, martini, etc) Steak empanadas were incredible, as well as our duck ravioli and short rib (huge, perfect for two!) We couldn't finish. First place I will return to when I come back! Second would be Taboo.
Omg the food was amazing. The atmosphere was very appeasing and made it worth to spend the money to come to Tulum & go to the restaurant thought I took pictures of the food but the food was amazing!
Incredible! I dined here on my bachelorette trip with 8 of us. The cocktails and food were excellent, I had the vegetarian risotto, everyone was so happy with their food. Great atmosphere.
The food was great - just expensive like most of the places in the beach/hotel zone in Tulum. Atmosphere was nice too. I recommend this place if you really want a steak dinner.. otherwise, nothing too special.
We stumbled upon Casa Banana while walking the beach road in Tulum looking for a dinner spot. It's a Michelin guided restaurant and we were lucky to get a table on a Wednesday night since we didn't have a Rez. It's a very vibey spot with low lighting and a boho atmosphere. The highlight of the entire night was the baked fig appetizer! It was gooey and delicious! We also ordered the whole fish baked in the wood fire oven. The fish of the night was yellowtail. First time to ever eat a whole fish and wow was it good! For cocktails we got the Pilar, which had the lightest hint of hazelnut, and the Emerald whiskey cocktail. It was unique, but the Pilar was better. Service was very attentive and made great recommendations. Go check this place out and try and make a reservation for the weekends. read more

This was by far my favorite meal during our mini moon in Tulum! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the ambiance had a good balance between intimate & lively. All the dishes and drinks we had were delicious but the stand out was their sweet corn & leek empanada! I enjoyed the flaky crust against the creamy filling. The salsa that came with it gave it a nice spice! The Rucula salad was also delicious! And the sea bass! We ordered 5 dishes and the portions were perfect. We left satisfied! I plan on returning when in the area and I highly recommend! read more

We stumbled upon Casa Banana in la Zona Hotelera of Tulum. The service and food was amazing. Our waiter, Gustavo and his peers were friendly and professional. The food was excellent, got the Spanish Chorizo, empanada & crepes. The vibe was chill, positive, full of greens and woods. Truly beautiful. read more

Had a great large group dinner here this past weekend: staff were tremendous with planning and ensuring everyone was taken care of including moving us under the canopy when the rain started pouring. Everything we ordered was delicious. Chorizo, White Fish Carpaccio, the grilled Leeks, Empanadas were all great starters. The sweetbreads unfortunately felt over cooked and just lost all texture. The skirt steak was perfectly cooked and paired really well with the chimmichuri. the restaurant is beautiful with an open fire grill rocking in the background. Drinks were not bad. All in all you can tell why this place has been a staple in the hotel zone in Tulum. Keep up the great work team!!! read more
This was one of my favorite dinners in Tulum! Locals told us Casa Banana is known as one of the best restaurants in Tulum (quoted as "legendary"). It was delicious. We really enjoyed everything we had. The ambiance is in the middle of the jungle which was pretty cool. It is located on the hotel strip and pretty close to all the other popular clubs and restaurants. It was a short walk from our hotel, Ahau. The prices are a little expensive but we found everything to be worth it. I would definitely come back here again, it was delicious! read more

Pricey but good (drinks) . Hubby and I walked in without a rezy and just sat at the bar. There, you'll have the pleasure of watching the cute mixologists create their boozy concoctions. We didn't join for dinner, but saw smiles all around. We especially enjoyed the good music and tropical bass vibes in background. Cheeers! read more

Amazing! If you have a chance to visit Tulum, Casa Banana is a must, the food is delicious, the steak was perfect and their specials are delicious. Amazing vibes, and Amazon service! Our server Luz was the sweetest, and all the others were so attentive. The mixology in the restaurant was unmatched, best espresso martini I've had. read more
Visited with a large group with advanced reservations and we were seated in the back, uncovered, during a night and week in which it was raining off and on all day. The restaurant is small and cramped. This was also a group of girls, seated right in front of the wood fire grill/ kitchen and we all left with our hair smelling like a campfire. The service was quick and attentive, the passion fruit margarita I had was okay- very tart. We had the baked Camembert for an appetizer which was great, however, just as appetizers came, it began pouring and we had to move our table under the small covered area. Our appetizer was left on the table and not brought by staff who helped us relocate yet I'm sure we were charged. There was nowhere for us to move to so our party got separated with one table still getting rained on. I ordered the cannelloni and many others ordered a steak which was probably a better choice. The first few bites of the cannelloni was great but then it was just overpowering garlic. Others at my table enjoyed their steaks. Overall, I would recommend for the location, quality, atmosphere, the service and what I felt was more reasonable pricing, but definitely feel they can be more accommodating to guests with advanced reservations and larger parties. The restaurant we visited the following evening seemed to work around and at least gave coverage in place on a rainy night. read more

The food as Casa Banana is excellent! The drinks were fantastic. We enjoyed streak, octopus and appetizers. This darling outdoor space is aesthetically pleasing and traditional Tulum style. Staff was fantastic! I highly suggest the beef empanada and sizzling cheese to share. read more

4.5 stars. Solid restaurant and the best one we had on this trip. MUST GET: Grilled whole fish. Super fresh and tender done at high temperature on the grill SOLID: Grilled chorizo: fantastic cherry tomatoes. pickled eggplant served as a nice counterpoint to the chorizo Beet salad: very big portion. Solid dish but not sure if I love the grilled version. Slightly prefer the boiled version marinated. SKIP: Calamari salad : I was expecting sauteed calamari. Grilled calamari was a bit too dry for a salad. read more
Can you say Casa Banana ? Well, I hope you can because that's where we're headed next! Casa Banana is located on Tulum's lively Hotel Zone and it could get pretty packed on the weekend. But don't let the taxi traffic stop you from experiencing this gem Let's get into the vibe. It's super cute and gives off a tropic jungle feel, it's pretty dark on the inside but it's not too bad. (Pro tip: flash is your best friend for pics) Once we were seated our waiter immediately took care of us. The service was really great, they took their time with us and went over the menu to make sure everything was just right! Now, let's get into this food. We're working with some pretty serious cuisine. This is the Lamb Risotto or what Dalita likes to callLamb Jambalaya. But no joke, that's exactly what it was and it was sooooo good. You can't beat lamb cooked like this (I could have done without the fried cheese on top tho) For my cocktail, I decided to indulge in a Lychee Martini, all I'll say is... if you haven't had one, you have to try it read more
We had exceptional service from Emgar last night and they made my husband's birthday night very special with a complimentary crème brûlée. We opted for a bottle of Pinot Grigio and did multiple courses including the whole fish red snapper, beef empanadas (OMG), corn empanadas and the asparagus with goat cheese and garlic. Highly recommend with exceptional house made food. Just be prepared for tourist price tags. This place was pricier than a lot of high end places at home in Houston... we are foodies and my husband is a chef, so we know dining. read more

We didn't have reservations when we came, but got seated fairly quickly within 10 minutes. While we waited we got drinks at the bar. The "Maui"was an amazing cocktail rimmed with toasted coconuts. It reminded me of sipping pina coladas on the beach in Hawaii. It was definitely crafted to appeal to the tourist tongue as there was nothing Mexican inspired about it. You can't go wrong with any of the mezcal cocktails either! The ambiance was very dark and the music was loud af, which was the vibe they were going for. If you're trying to engage in a conversation during dinner, be prepared to scream across the table. Because this restaurant is most known for their Argentinian dishes, we ordered the Argentinian sausage appetizer to start followed by the Argentinian skirt steak and calamari salad. -Argentinian sausage appetizer: came with roasted eggplant, focaccia bread, roasted veggies, and Argentinian sausage. Loved the variety, but wasn't a fan of the quality and taste of the dish. The sausage was dry, but not as dry as the bread. 2/5 -Calamari salad: best guac I've had in all of Tulum! Mound of guac atop greens, scattered with calamari and roasted tomatoes. I enjoyed this dish very much, but the calamari was not the showstopper of the dish, the guac was! 4/5 -Argentinian skirt steak: cooked medium rare. First time eating Argentinian skirt steak, so I had nothing to compare it to. It was slightly tough, but tasty. Served beside delicious mashed potatoes and roasted onions. 4/5 Casa Banana is one of the many trendy restaurants on the Tulum party strip. It's hip, loud, and made for tourists who have money to spend in exchange for a good time. You won't miss this place; just look for the bright yellow banana hanging out front! read more

Excellent food, drinks and service! The wood fired Argentinian grill is something to see! Mezcalita cocktail was a delight. Great setting and wonderful friendly staff, although host was a bit of a pretentious person. read more
