BAK' was my birthday-week splurge, and WOW. I'd heard the steak was incredible, so the bar was high.. and somehow it still gave me the best steak I have had in years. Not exaggerating. The open-flame cooking is the whole concept and you can absolutely taste it. On top of the food there's a fire and dance show called Cha'an Ka'ak, Mayan-inspired, and it is a whole experience: fire, performers, the works. Ours kicked off around 9:30, and I'm not positive it runs every single night, so confirm when you book if you want to catch it. Yes, it's a splurge, but it was 100% worth it. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked! The curry dressing was super tasty and the herb salad was a combination of cilantro, mint and a third which I'm not sure of. Altogether very good and I would definitely order again. 24 Karat Beet- Loved the presentation! Super cute with everything they did. It's beets, tasted like beets and gives you all the benefits of eating beets. I say it like that because the price of this dish is beyond ridiculous. Yes, the presentation was amazing. They brought it out in this widen box like it was precious jewelry. It looked pretty wrapped in edible @24 karate gold". But at the end of the day, it's was a large beet! LOL The 3 meat eaters in my patty thoroughly enjoyed their meals. All said it was the best steak they've ever had or have had in a long time. When in Tulum, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Bak'. If you like an upscale ambiance, upbeat music, and a party atmosphere Bak' is a must try. I made Saturday reservations through Open Table and was promptly seated at my reservation time, even with the restaurant being relatively crowded on a weekend. The restaurant is darkly lit with a very midday decor. I would say this place is great for a date night or a night out with friends. The whole time I was there it felt like something was always happening. I made my reservation for 9:45pm and couldn't have planned it more perfectly as right before our food came out the show started. There were acrobats, dancers, and performers all over the restaurant and the building was uniquely designed specifically for this show. I highly recommend finding out when the show plays and booking your reservation in time to see it. The food itself was also fantastic. Fromm the seafood tower to the ribeye, everything was fantastic. All in all, I highly recommend Bak' as it's an experience itself and is well worth the price tag which was on par, if not better, than many of the surrounding restaurants in the area. read more

Bak' Tulum was definitely 9/10. The food portions were a little small for two people. I had the mindset of steak houses usually have aide dishes for two people! So we left not really that full. Firstly, I love everything about Tulum so Bak' was a no brainer to try out. Our reservations was at 7p and we arrived about 15 minutes early and was seated right away. When you're celebrating a birthday on vacation. It's kinda a big deal ;-). From start to finish the staff was attentive and accommodating. I like to pair my steak with a nice dry wine and our server let me try a few until I got the right taste. The vibe and setting was very relaxing, jungle vibes and occasionally the lights go down creating a club like feel; which was fun on occasions but it made it hard to see your food. I really wish I could upload videos but in the meantime here's my review along with some photos. Bak was one of my favorite steakhouses in Tulum. Not that the others don't have them but I believe they do a good job executing various food options for meat lovers, seafood enthusiast and vegan/vegetarian lifestyles. The steak was amazing. If you're interested in trying crickets for the first time, try it at Bak with your cocktail. Most of the big steakhouses in Tulum located in the hotel zone have night time entertainment, but they don't do it like Bak. Bak's entertainment showcase dancers and musicians but unlike the others they dedicated a portion of their entertainment to the Mayan people. read more

GO HERE! I cannot recommend BAK' enough. Our group made a mistake of only making a reservation for 7pm cocktails and appetizers. I was eyeing all the food coming out, and it looked FANTASTIC. The atmosphere is upscale beach elegance, friendly but high-end. The staff was AMAZING! Extremely attentive, friendly, and really went over the top for the events we were celebrating. I would have come here every single night if we weren't set on trying out as many restaurants as possible. Beverages, oysters, and crab legs were presented in the most flashy presentation I have ever seen and all items were priced accordingly for the fantastic quality. But it's definitely something to try if you're in the area and not feeling the all-inclusive options at your resort. Try going during the fire show. No fire show like we expected from the reviews on here. The ambiance was lively and bass-filled. Unfortunately, not a romantic spot nor good for older people. The music was way too loud to hear the server or anyone at the table speak, so you just had to sit there and bear it for hours. I kind of felt imprisoned by the music (for the first time in my life). The sparklers and the birthday shot was a nice touch, but every table had a birthday, so not a surprise anymore. Nice ambiance, very good food and service above and beyond. Between myself, my wife and son we had the fish, chicken and steak-all very well presented with specific sauces and seasonings. However, the main reason I give it 3 stars is that every drink I ordered had very low amount of alcohol in it. At their prices it should be freehand pour and be generous. We came for the ambiance (open air jungle with trees and fairy lights) and are writing the review because of the incredible service! The first thing that impressed us were the light up (like an iPad screen) menus. Made it so easy to read in the dark, and just kind of cool in general). There was a small rack by the table for handbags and coats (another impressive element as I hate setting my bag on the ground) and then the waiter came over with our water and offered a tray of cucumber, lemon, oranges, and fresh basil should we want flavored water. All this within the first five minutes of sitting down! The food was good, I recommend the baked Camembert (nice international menu, as well). Lovely options of non alcoholic drinks and dessert was incredible- vanilla ice cream with macadamia nuts inside and an Oreo cookie crust bottom.
