When in Tulum, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Bak'. If you like an upscale ambiance, upbeat music, and a party atmosphere Bak' is a must try. I made Saturday reservations through Open Table and was promptly seated at my reservation time, even with the restaurant being relatively crowded on a weekend. The restaurant is darkly lit with a very midday decor. I would say this place is great for a date night or a night out with friends. The whole time I was there it felt like something was always happening. I made my reservation for 9:45pm and couldn't have planned it more perfectly as right before our food came out the show started. There were acrobats, dancers, and performers all over the restaurant and the building was uniquely designed specifically for this show. I highly recommend finding out when the show plays and booking your reservation in time to see it. The food itself was also fantastic. Fromm the seafood tower to the ribeye, everything was fantastic. All in all, I highly recommend Bak' as it's an experience itself and is well worth the price tag which was on par, if not better, than many of the surrounding restaurants in the area.

Really great and attentive staff. They are there to create a happy and inviting experience. This restaurant is definitely an experience. The food was amazing, neither my husband or I got steak, but the salmon was cooked to perfection and the best my husband has ever had from a restaurant. The Apps of Patti were delicious with great dipping sauces to try. Drinks were good and strong, prices are a little high for a restaurant not on the actual water. But it's still in the hotel district so it's understandable.

Bak' Tulum was definitely 9/10. The food portions were a little small for two people. I had the mindset of steak houses usually have aide dishes for two people! So we left not really that full. Firstly, I love everything about Tulum so Bak' was a no brainer to try out. Our reservations was at 7p and we arrived about 15 minutes early and was seated right away. When you're celebrating a birthday on vacation. It's kinda a big deal ;-). From start to finish the staff was attentive and accommodating. I like to pair my steak with a nice dry wine and our server let me try a few until I got the right taste. The vibe and setting was very relaxing, jungle vibes and occasionally the lights go down creating a club like feel; which was fun on occasions but it made it hard to see your food. Considering it warm and a open environment, bugs is still something to consider!! Would I return? Definitely but ordering my own tomahawk next time!

Amazing experience!!! It's been two weeks since I have been to BAK & I'm still thinking about our great time. Ambiance great. Food amazing. Entertainment on point. Staff friendly. We came as a group of 20+. The servers attended to our needs and food was brought out in a good time. Would I go back... yes!!

This place is great for special events and celebrations. The prices are reasonable for everything you get. Entertainment is amazing!!! There's a fire show, violinist, and light show where everyone gets sparklers. I loved all the entertainment. The food was great as well and service is amazing. Book your reservations in advance. They do temperature checks and provide hand sanitizer. Social distancing not so much.... Food: I got the lobster and steak. They cooked it well and the food was seasoned. I didn't have a wow factor but the food was good! The fries came out cold but were still pretty tasty. Entertainment: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Quality of food: 9/10 Drinks: 10/10 Music: 10/10 I highly recommend this spot!

This was by far my favorite meal in Tulum! Everything was just *chefs kiss* from the corn, to the octopus! We all really enjoyed our time here. You get a really good show and a great meal with awesome service. Key: Make a reservation & if you like Octopus be sure to order it here! Also note, this isn't a place you come to if you want to dine in the quiet. They play music, and they play it loud.

I really wish I could upload videos but in the meantime here's my review along with some photos. Bak was one of my favorite steakhouses in Tulum. Not that the others don't have them but I believe they do a good job executing various food options for meat lovers, seafood enthusiast and vegan/vegetarian lifestyles. The steak was amazing. If you're interested in trying crickets for the first time, try it at Bak with your cocktail. Most of the big steakhouses in Tulum located in the hotel zone have night time entertainment, but they don't do it like Bak. Bak's entertainment showcase dancers and musicians but unlike the others they dedicated a portion of their entertainment to the Mayan people.

Amazing!! Service was superb -- they were extremely attentive and checked in on us often! The food was wonderful as well. Serving size was pretty good, we ordered a few appetizers, a large steak and sides to share! We ended up not going on a night with the fire show, but the ambiance was great! Bread was amazing!! I still dream about the avocado dip We got the 2.2lb steak and it was enough for three of us! We got fries, Mac and cheese on the side as well Dessert was really good! The bak cake was like an Oreo ice cream cake. The pear shaped one was tasty, if not a bit sweet.

This place was absolutely amazing. Great ambiance , great food and service. Our server Jafeth took care of us and was extremely knowledgeable of the menu, drinks, and was very attentive through the meal. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting an upscale steakhouse experience!

I'm only writing this review so I can remember to come back. 10/10 for service and food quality. I just wish it was indoors with AC. But I'll definitely eat here again!

The food was absolutely amazing! I wish I had more pictures of the sides I got (Mac and cheese, mushrooms, asparagus, French fries) but I did not have a single complaint. The STEAK WAS AMAZING. Please don't leave here without getting a steak. Service was slow but I also came with a large party.

GO HERE! I cannot recommend BAK' enough. Our group made a mistake of only making a reservation for 7pm cocktails and appetizers. I was eyeing all the food coming out, and it looked FANTASTIC. The atmosphere is upscale beach elegance, friendly but high-end. The staff was AMAZING! Extremely attentive, friendly, and really went over the top for the events we were celebrating. I would have come here every single night if we weren't set on trying out as many restaurants as possible. Beverages, oysters, and crab legs were presented in the most flashy presentation I have ever seen and all items were priced accordingly for the fantastic quality. The entertainment piece was on-brand of upscale elegance and really made the entire experience the best for us in Tulum. We loved the music selection, and could still talk even with it playing. Writing this right now, I wish I were at BAK'! I cannot thank Aaron and Jesus for going over the top for us and making this such a wonderful experience!

First time to ever eat a whole fish and wow was it good! For cocktails we got the Pilar, which had the lightest hint of hazelnut, and the Emerald whiskey cocktail. The octopus salad was so lovely, and the Argentinian chorizo was honestly one of the best chorizo I've had. Not very spicy, served with perfectly toasted focaccia and roasted vegetables. We also loved the pickled eggplant that came with it. They brought out complimentary toast and spread when we first arrived too which was so sweet. So happy we stopped here

1-Star Review for BAK Tulum…read more We were very disappointed with our experience at BAK Tulum, especially since it was meant to be a special anniversary dinner. I clearly mentioned to the staff that I am pregnant and asked for my steak to be well done. When our steaks arrived, mine was rare inside. I immediately brought it to their attention, and they took it back. My husband waited to eat with me, and after about 10 minutes, they returned my steak -- yes, it was cooked through, but they had simply thrown it back on the grill, leaving the entire crust black and burned. A proper well-done steak should be baked or finished carefully, not charred. I had to cut around the burnt parts and could only eat the inside, leaving my plate full of burnt steak pieces. We also ordered banana cream and churro waffles for dessert -- both were disappointing, we barely had two bites each. They brought us two complimentary champagnes, which was thoughtful -- but again, I had already told them I was pregnant. They didn't bother to offer me a non-alcoholic alternative, so I couldn't enjoy anything. When the bill arrived, the manager had said the desserts would be complimentary, but they were still charged on the bill, along with the champagne we never ordered. After pointing this out, the waiter said he made the changes but questioned who told me that, claiming I "heard wrong." Only after insisting did he remove the desserts from the check. We paid $700 USD for a $626.16 bill, expecting the change in pesos as agreed. Based on the daily exchange rate (18.46), the change should have been 1,363.50 pesos, but we were given 1,240 pesos, short 123.5 pesos. When questioned, the waiter said, "our restaurant's rate is 17," which still didn't add up and left us short again. Throughout the entire experience, no one apologized -- not for the burnt steak, not for the billing confusion, and not for the dishonest handling of the exchange rate. In person, I gave them the chance to make things right, but they chose not to. That's why I'm writing this review -- not to complain, but to warn others. The music and fireworks were great, but the food, service, and honesty were deeply disappointing. Unfortunately, this experience ruined our anniversary night.

Make sure to make a reservation in advance, especially for Thursday through the weekend. We visited at 8:30 and we felt like it was the perfect time because a lot of the performances began around nine. The service is top-notch. From putting the napkin in your lap to arranging a miniature coat rack to hang your jacket, they pay attention to detail. Not to mention, though the atmosphere takes priority here, the food was also very good. We ordered a steak and the shrimp risotto. The shrimp were colossal. I have never seen shrimp so big. Most of their specialty cocktails are quite acidic and that night I was craving whiskey so I ordered an old-fashioned and it was also very good. I would say this spot in particular is well known for big groups and bachelorette dinners. It is quite loud, so keep that in mind. It's also in line with other nice restaurants in Tulum regarding price, but we felt it was worth it. Lastly, make a note that they charge for water so you're not surprised when you get the bill.

So definitely the beet! We are sure tried the fish collar, which many people skip not realizing that this might be the most delicate and flavorful part of the fish. In fact I was tempted to just have two orders of this as my main dish. I had the Wildflower drink, which was light and delicate. We were able to come early at 6pm, only half an hour after they open, and by the time we left an hour later, to say they were full is an understatement. If you like to start the evening calm, as I do, I'd highly suggest coming early and then wandering the street. This also gives you a little time to talk to your wait staff. The server we had (I apologize, I have forgotten his name but I'll ask my husband and add it later) guided us through the menu and had excellent knowledge of each item. And, like everyone we've encountered here, was so gracious with his time and presence. I never feel rushed here as I do in some other tourist focused places. My waiter was very helpful with recommendations and answering any questions I had. I ordered the collar de pescado and the tostada de tartar for my apps, the fillete de robalo (sea bass) for a main, and the berenjena (roasted eggplant) for a side. The collar de pescado, the sea bass collar, was absolutely delicious. The fish was soft and tender, topped with a robust tomato based sauce. Super flavorful. 9/10. The tostada de tartar was also outstanding. The crisp tortilla paired perfectly with the soft fresh fish. The fish mixture was light, creamy, and a little spicy, topped with some greens for freshness and finished off with some lime juice for acidity and brightness. 10/10. The sea bass fillet was cooked perfectly, the fish was soft and juicy and had an incredible crispy skin that gave it a wonderful crunch. It was paired with a creamy sauce, spinach, and cauliflower. The different elements of the dish worked well together, with the vegetables cutting through the richness of the fish and the sauce adding flavor and a contrasting texture to the crispy fish skin. 9/10. The eggplant was good, however it was my least favorite dish. The eggplant was soft and flavorful on the inside, however the skin was a little bit tough. The mole it was paired with had a nice smoky flavor and I wish there had been more of it. 8/10. For dessert I got their only dessert, the honey cake. OH MY GOD THIS DESSERT WAS LIFE CHANGING. Probably one of if not the best dessert I've ever had. The cake was very dense, with the consistency of a blondie. The honey taste is subtle and there is also a slight smoky flavor that comes through from being cooked in their wood fire oven. The cake is topped with a chamomile whipped cream and salt. The whipped cream is so light and airy while still being incredibly creamy. The lightness of the whipped cream works perfectly with the richness of the cake. The salt on top really takes it up a notch. 11/10. My only complaints are that the wooden benches you sit on are very uncomfortable and it gets very smoky from the wood burning oven, and I was seated almost at the other end of the restaurant. It was also quite loud but the place is small and it was packed, nothing the restaurant can do about that. Prices are steep but well worth it in my opinion.
