It was vegan, gluten free, keto friendly, accomodating for all types of diets and food allergies. This is very important for someone like me who can hardly eat half the menu at places like Casa Banana, and is so picky about the quality and source of food. Traveling around Quintana Roo area with friends who try to eat Paleo, gluten and grain free, no soy, no GMO, etc. etc. we were able to locate great places to eat with a little research. We came across this one from Yelp after visiting the Tulum Mayan temples. The menu looked fantastic and right up our alley! Located beach front Tulum within the Hotel Sanara Tulum, the ambiance immediately relaxed us and bathed us in tranquility with the peaceful sounds of the waves lapping the white sandy beach. We may consider staying at the hotel next trip! The barefoot hostess walked us across sand to the back porch dining area and sat us in a nice location with sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea. We started with cool smoothie refreshments and then ordered some of the most amazing cuisine we had yet tried this trip! Everything was absolutely delicious and plated meticulously. Although the price on lunch for five without cocktails ($5500 pesos) was much higher than we normally pay in Mexico, we felt it was worth the experience and serenity. Time and money well spent. Fabulous oceanside vibes in Tulum. This uber hip, extra healthy spot is perfect for detoxing all of your tequila shots while soaking in some sun and taking pics for the 'gram. We parked at The Real Coconut/Sanara for free at the expectation that we'd purchase some food/drinks while we beached it. Most (if not all) of their lounging options on the beach were reserved for guests of the hotel, but we were able to lay down our blankets nearby without a problem. After a few hours of laying in the sun we headed up for a late lunch on The Real Coconut's gorgeous patio. If you're visiting Tulum from LA, you'll find TRC is dripping in Venice vibes. They've got a chalkboard outside touting their "gluten free, dairy free, sugar free" menu. They really do have tons of healthy options, plus coffee drinks and boozy things. It was a little windy and chilly so I opted for a hot "super fun guy" medicinal latte with reishi, chaga, ashwaganda, coconut oil, and coconut milk (Moon Juice vibes for sure). I also got the coconut white fish ceviche with coconut flour tostadas (sensing a theme here?) that was outstanding. Prices are a little higher than restaurants in Tulum's city center, but pretty standard for eateries on the playa/oceanside. I'll note that we were visiting during peak season but *not* peak day/time (we were there around 3 pm on a Tuesday). The Real Coconut was certainly swoonworthy and made me want to book a stay at Sanara, but alas, until I have $500 a night for such things the ceviche will do just fine. read more

Took a yoga class at Sanara which this restaurant is in. The class was a perfect way to start your day done on the rooftop and when you are done, the restaurant offers a complimentary shot of a cleansing juice. We had a relaxing breakfast only feet away from the beach. We ordered the apple cinnamon cereal with coconut milk which was incredible. We also had a breakfast bowl that we added an egg to. You are going to find some pretty amazing places to eat in Tulum. I would recommend The Real Coconut for when you need something healthy for a breakfast or lunch. Was it "blow your socks off, I can't believe what I am eating" kind of good? No, but it was very well prepared and exactly what they represent themselves as being. They want to be healthy and satisfying and that is just what they are. They are no greasy spoon but something that you can feel full but not bloated on and continue out in your bikini on that beach they overlook. The view along with the breeze coming off the water is incredible and everything is very well plated. We came here twice when we stayed to Tulum. Our favorite was, without a doubt, breakfast. The pancakes were light, fluffy and simple which was perfect with the sweetness of the syrup and the fresh fruit. Together they made each bite the perfect bite. It was not too rich, heavy, or overly decadent. These are the type of pancakes you can enjoy even on a beach. The avocado toast was gluten and grain-free plantain bread, toasted and covered in chunky avocado, finished with lime and a light dash of chili flakes served with fresh tomatoes and greens. Again, fresh and very satisfying. I recommend adding eggs if you want to have a little more protein. We had them prepared multiple ways and all were very well made. We also sat on the beach using their lounge area and there is a $100 (USD) min to use their area. It isn't terribly easy to get the attention of the staff for drinks and they are a bit more expensive than the other locations we tried. Just next door is Le Zebra and, if you get there early enough, you can get a bed without a minimum. I wouldn't recommend this beach area unless other places are too busy or you really wanted to have lunch on a beach bed. read more

It was my inner-hippie's idea of heaven. The perfect beach vibes with an extensive menu and lots of great vegetarian/vegan options. The juices/cocktails/drinks menu was even plentiful. I ordered one of the shooters with apple cider vinegar and a variety of other healthy ingredients to kick the traveler's sickness I had been dealing with. The Real Coconut has beautiful aesthetics, but the food is a hit or miss for me. I didn't realize everything was going to be made from plantains. I'm not a big fan of plantains at all. I ordered the avocado toast with eggs, the eggs and avocado were really good but the toast I couldn't eat. My husband ordered pancakes made from plantains, which I also didn't like because they tasted straight like plantains again. What I did LOVE though, is the flan! To The Real Coconut, I wanted to get this up much sooner after returning from my trip, but am so happy to do it now! I visited Tulum for my 30th birthday and fell in love, this beautiful restaurant was one of my most treasured spots. I have had Celiac since I was 21 and am not one who can mess around with potentially glutenous items. And while my Spanish grew better the longer I was there, it was still kind of difficult to ensure fully I wasn't running into flour and such at the places we dined. Well, not only did The Real Coconut have an entire menu that was Gluten-Free, there were delectable vegan options and the food was beyond compare. We had gone twice on the trip, Once the day before by birthday, and then again on the actual day of celebration. I had to have breakfast at one of my favorite spots for the occasion! The cocktails were unreal, I had a fresh espresso martini on the ocean that was to die for, a little hair of the dog combined with some delectable espresso to help jump start the day! They Lychee martini was also fantastic! We shared an array of items from the coconut cheese quesadillas to the vegan nachos as well as the shredded chicken nacho dish. Everything was unreal. Some of the gals had the bone broth and acted as if they had been infused with power from the gods by way of an unbelievable tasty and super healthy broth. The avocado toast was next level, and holy moly they do not short you on the avocado goodness as some places do! We had the papas that were derived from a root like tarot and they were incredibly light and delicious. And the green habanero salsa! Oh my GOODNESS! To die for. And such a good heat to it. Perfecto! Not only this, but on my super special birthday, a trip my best friend and I shared in celebration of her bachelorette party and my 30 years around the sun, was honored with a champagne toast right on the water and the most delicious chocolate cake I've had in years!
