I was really excited about this place Because I am vegetarian and was trying out a lot of the vegan/vegetarian restaurants on my trip to Tulum. This spot is gorgeous, beautiful atmosphere. Restaurant is literally on the beach! Service was great and food was good! We ordered the vegan meatball, the coconut cheese croquettes, and avocado fries. The reason I gave it one star is that all the other items that say they have a vegan/veggie option were actually not veggie but jackfruit, which I have an allergy to, so it left a place that initially seemed to cater to vegan/vegetarian options much more limited. Went here on Indian Night unbeknownst to us it happens every wednesday night and you cant order off the standard menu. Not a big deal I love Indian food. The place was cute with live indian music, nice decor. But the prices are highway robbery. I fully realize that the Tulum Beach area prices have become wildly inflated and expected to pay california prices but of all the overpriced meals and drinks this was the most egregious. The tandori set dinner for 2 with the 18% added gratuity would set you back 5605 pesos or 280 usd!! Get out of here! Needless to say we got the chicken tikka curry which was decent but a very small portion and I have had much better at state side buffets. For 4 people with 4 drinks our bill was 180 usd. And had to go somewhere else to actually satisfty appetites. Ate the best indian food of my life in hong kong and payed 1/2 the price for more food then our party could eat and several rounds of drinks. We had a bridal luncheon at The Real Coconut. Ricardo, the manager was excellent in making sure this event would be perfect for the bride. The ambiance was splendid for this affair. First, you have this incredible ocean view, and then there is such a nice breeze, you would never know that it was 83 degrees. The seating had 18 women at a table, and the other seven women sat on the big L couches. We could have had everyone at one table, but the ladies elected to sit on the couches. The table décor had all the brides' colors with beautiful flowers down the center of the table accented with greenery. Ricardo had a table set up for the pictures of the bride and groom with local decor. The occasion started with water and margaritas to set the mood, then sikil pak dip and guacamole were served with homemade chips that tasted yummy and seemed very healthy. I wish I could import those chips to the states. Walter and Manual served Caesar salads with a coconut topping along with a charred sweet potato salad. The main course consisted of local fish tacos, shrimp al pastor tacos, and chicken tinga tacos. All plates were left completely empty. Walther and Manual were on their "A-game" of keeping filled glasses with water and Prosecco. They never missed a beat. The dessert is Fudge Brownie Cake. It was worth every calorie. The event at the Real Coconut was the perfect start for the bride and her wedding party for a fabulous destination wedding in Tulum. Amazing! From the food, to the service, to the aesthetic. They have great vegan options throughout the menu and their shakes are to die for! The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The owner happened to be there and even stopped by to introduce himself. My friends & I started off with the chunky guacamole, chili mole shrimp tostadas (slightly spicy), and chicken bites. Everything was so fresh! The chicken bites were hardly seasoned, if they were, which is totally fine, because the dipping sauces that came with them were great! (I held on to them for the entrees). This is a beautiful restaurant to enjoy a meal but there were some setbacks. For one the prices are very high and a lot of the dishes are super small. The service is very slow, both the waiters and the kitchen. The quesadilla with coconut cheese was AMAZING but it's a super small dish, better as an appetizer although it's priced like an entree. The avocado toast is much larger and filling but the avocado is mixed with some sort of vinegar and had a strange sour taste so I definitely don't recommend it. I also ordered a salad with broccoli and it was tasted very strongly like just salt and vinegar. My friends ordered tacos and really enjoyed them but we're still hungry after. I think it's fine for restaurants to charge more for high quality and well crafted dishes but the real coconut missed the mark on a couple of items. read more

This is my absolute FAVORITE place to eat in Tulum!! Everything I ate was so fresh and healthy but also delicious beyond belief! Such simple yet delicious food! I loved the avocado toast and green smoothie in the morning or the chia parfait was also great! I'm pescaterian (vegan with some seafood) as well as gluten free so this place was such a safe place to eat for me! No dairy or gluten to worry about. I believe everything is local and organic. Honestly this place was amazing. We got the broccoli and pea salad from the lunch menu and it was simply delicious. They lightly cooked the food (seemed grilled?) and were liberal with the seasoning--a common complaint of mine with "health" food. We added some sweet potato fries on the side--cooked perfectly--and the chocolate milkshake. All three of them were delicious, wholesome, and fresh. Perhaps more importantly, they escaped the traditional trappings of "health food" by seasoning everything well, having creative and tasty menu items, and being unafraid to incorporate healthy fats and salt. We also got the chocolate cake, which was very good but did have that "gluten free" texture that those of us who eat gluten tend to turn our noses at. Otherwise, it was very good and I loved that it had chocolate chips in it to change up the texture a little. Rachel, our server, was fantastic, attentive, and gave great recommendations! This place is a serious 5 star joint, though expect to pay quite a lot for each dish. Dinner mains seemed to run about $550 MX or ~$35 USD (though they also had tapas options). Lunch mains were about $250 MX (without added protein), or about $13 USD. Milkshake was ~$180 MX or ~$9 USD. What a gem of a restaurant. I don't know where to begin. First of all, the place is insanely gorgeous. The Real Coconut is right on the beach in Tulum and is a nice place to eat any meal or just get a drink. The food here is all natural-and they mean it. There are dozens of vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and fair trade options for you to choose from so you can bring all the picky eaters here. I had the tacos with falafel as the protein and I'm not a vegetarian and I loved it. My friends ordered ceviche and enjoyed their meal as well. If you're lucky enough to be in beautiful Tulum, do yourself a favor and stop at the Real Coconut for an unforgettable meal. My boyfriend and I both agreed 5 stars without a doubt. We stayed at one of the Mahayana Tulum Beach Homes, so luckily for us, this was a quick 2 minute walk down the beach where it connects to the restaurant. We were immediately greeted by a lovely staff and were seated right away. But I have to move it down a notch for being a little "health food-y" To be clear: I eat paleo and whole 30 much of the time, but that should not have to mean boring... this food was not bad, just too expensive to be this uneventful. We had dinner there twice, trying different things and it was always a little blah. That being said, the lunch menu is FAR more exciting than the dinner menu. The Caesar salad and vegan quesadillas (coconut tortillas and cheese) were really good. The healthy ice cream smoothies were also really good. The atmosphere is stunning, the pink moon rose over the water as we were eating, the fresh air kept us cool and the table they set up for us was breathtaking. The thing I would celebrate most about our large party experience was how organized they were and how much food they provided our group (with mixed dietary restrictions). From the second we walked in the staff placed small plate apps to keep us satisfied while taking our drink order. This made this so much more smooth. The hummus and our drinks were another level of delicious we did not experience anywhere else. Our dinner continued to hit the spot and just when we thought they had given us everything they had, more would arrive. I loved the little mushroom tacos. Every person on staff was so helpful and friendly and they were really ready for the challenge of a large group (which was not the case in the other places we ate on beach road that week).
