The best food I've had in Tulum two years in a row! Simply amazing! Wow - I thought maybe I just remembered last year through rose-colored glasses - no, this place is magnificent. First, the vibe is basically perfect. Feels exotic, is clean, the staff is fun, and the live music is the finishing touch. Second, without a doubt the best food we had in Tulum during our week there this year, and my week there last year. House Salad - I never knew I needed goat cheese ice cream on a salad but I'm telling you it was AMAZING! My girlfriend had the Octopus in marinade. She gets the Octopus everywhere we go. It was very tasty and not overcooked like is often the case. I had the Catch of the Day, Sea Bass. I have the fish of the day everywhere I go (live in St Petersburg, Florida, so I'm a seafood junky). It was, again, like last year the best fish dinner entree I had in Tulum. That's between about 12 different places I've eaten at in Tulum spanning the poshest hotel zone restaurants to the most reviewed and highly rated places in Centro in town. It was mouth-wateringly good and flawlessly prepared. I highly suggest trying the Mexican Tea cocktail - a refreshing, but not overly sweet, well-balanced drink that I loved and my girlfriend switched to despite it not being anything like what she would normally order. Last - I worked in restaurants starting at 15 through my late 20's including the most upscale place in the entire city. I got good enough to find gigs helping train staff during new openings. My first meal in tulum and definitely didn't disappoint! Like most restaurants in the area, there was a nice wooden seating area with loud speakers and colorful lights. It was night when I came so the ambience was perfect. The servers were nice and attentive and gave great recommendations! My boyfriend and I got the camarones a la mantequilla (buttery garlic shrimp), pesca del día (catch of the day), calamari, and drinks. Everything was so fresh and full of flavor! Of all the places we ate in Tulum, Kay Nah was hands down my favorite! After walking around Tulum Centro, our group decided to walk down a random street and we were overcome by the smell of delicious meats! Like others have said, it was a total vibe! Drinks were a pourin' and they even had live music serenading us all the way through dinner. We were initially sat next to a speaker, but I'm old, and I couldn't handle it because I actually wanted to have a conversation with my friends at dinner. The staff was very accommodating and found us a table towards the back. For starters we decided to go with the guacamole, of course. It's was one of the better guacs we had in Tulum. We also went with the crab croqueta, which was absolutely delicious. For my main, I went with the servers recommendation, the Arrachera. A flank steak cooked to perfection with seasonal veggies and mashed potatoes. The portion was big and filling, and if you love chimichurri, be sure to ask for a side to dip your steak in. For 350 pesos ($17.50 USD), this meal would easily be double the price back home. If you love red meat, don't skip out on this dish. Spend a few days in Tulum, and you'll notice the pricing of food/drinks is close to what you'd expect in SF/LA, BUT at Kay Nah, the prices are reasonable and not outrageous. Mixed drinks range from 100-130 pesos ($5-7 USD), beers start at 40 pesos and up ($2+ USD). I found this to be a very affordable meal, quality food, and amazing service. I would definitely return here for a meal and some live music! read more

Fantastic place by famous chef Cessar Castenada. It has a pleasant vibe, great staff , and great atmosphere. Design of the restaurant is very Tulum style and I love the idea of food being cooked over live fire. It brings that extra element to the food itself. Our server Donny was absolutely great. We had Ceviche and Octopus. Both dishes were amazing. Ceviche was super fresh with ideal balance of flavors. Octopus super tender and addition of onion crisps gave it that extra crunch :)). We also tried the mezcal drinks and the were the same top level as the food itself. If you want to try some real Tulum food this is definitely a place to go, you will not regret it. This was one of the nicer dinners we had during our few-day stay in Tulum. They don't seem to have a website or a phone number to call, so we just dropped by in person to make a dinner reservation. When we arrived the following night, there were maybe a few other tables, but definitely not full. This was a weekend the week before Christmas in December 2021. We were seated quickly, and noticed the music and live dancer right away. We ordered lobster, steak, fish of the day, pasta, and a salad. There was quite a large party that had just ordered ahead of us, so our food took quite some time, maybe 35 - 40 minutes. On the bright side, the ambience was nice and we could see the grill going outside and progress being made. One thing to note, if you're not a fan of music on the louder side, you should probably skip this place. We saw 3 different couples sit down, then decide to leave after finding the music too loud. I got the shrimp pesto pasta (I forget the Spanish name for it)...it lacked good flavor. Well the shrimp was soo good but the pasta just was not enjoyable. Maybe it was too much cream cheese, idk but it was a NO! The drinks were delicious though. By far the best margaritas I had while in Tulum. On the site we saw they served drinks with sparklers (one reason why we came here) but unfortunately there were no sparklers to be seen. I did bring it up and our server found a colored flashlight that he shined under the glass lol. Not what I was looking for but I appreciate the effort. I came to this restaurant because of the Jamaican hostess I saw at the door. Service was lovely and ambience was beautiful, they had a live band, nice music. I ordered the ceviche and was shocked to find it was sitting in a bowl of oil and it was also made into some sort of rounded hill seemingly held together by mayo and mustard. The mashed sweet potatoes it sat on were delicious, as were the grilled vegetables on the side. Also had the mixed salad which was a massive though simple plate of shredded jicama, carrots, cabbage, etc. The drinks recommended to us were the margarita verde (get it with mezcal rather than tequila) and the margarita maracuja. Both were yummy but not strong. The ambiance was romantic and had live music. Note: When the bill arrived, the final price was wrongly added and was higher than it should be. This was hands down my favorite restaurant in Tulum!!! We found this place on a happening little block in the city and was amazing. So, even though this is an outdoor restaurant we had no issues at all with mosquitos/bugs unlike other restaurants we attempted to go to. Be careful. I gave them my cc to pay. After a few minutes, the mgr came over and said the card didn't go through. Told me I need to pay in cash which I did. A day later, I see a pending charge on my cc. I thought it would go away. A few days later when I get back to the States, the pending charge became a hard charge. I have disputed the charge but I wasn't given a receipt so my cc card company hasn't decided if they will give me credit. The owner comes around and chats with the patrons - super nice. I believe his name is Diego. We ordered: - Pescado Tikin Xic - whole fish marinated in a red axiote sauce with vegetables cooked in a stone wood oven - Camarones a la Diabla - grilled shrimps covered with a mixture of garlic on a sweet potato puree, chips of taro and diabla sauce Let me just say, this was the best meal we had in Tulum. The Pescado Tikin Xic was so delicious! Such a unique way to cook your food in a banana leaf. The sauce was amazing and the fish was de-boned (except 2 small ones that I found). The grilled shrimp were massive and the sweet potato puree was a welcome addition to the dish. The taro chips added crunch and the diabla sauce was also spicy and had a kick. My wife and I decided to get out and check out some live music and have some actual seafood. We were very happy to see what Key Nah had to offer. Food was great, tacos are a little spicy for my wife. That's just a note for those people who can't handle any spice. The music started playing right before we got ready to leave, but from the sound checks that we heard I can't complain. Had dinner here with my man here during one of our last nights in Tulum and it was one of my favorite meals in the city! We got to chat with the owner who is a really cool person and here before the giant Tulum boom. They've got their business right I think. Food and service. We had a full compliment of high-end plates and loved every dish. Tuna ceviche, Langostinos... and the cocktails(!) all great. The evening was spiced by the few entertainers (acoustic guitar playing cantaors) troping through, serenading with everything from reggae to classic Mexican pop tunes. As a musician we tipped the singers who on the whole played pretty well. I would say Kay Nah is a cousin to the more expensive high end well known restaurants found near the beach like arca Hartwood and Rosa Negra in that it had the same type of food quality and decoration. I got the tuna tostada which was average but the grilled octopus was what stole the show. They use a wood fire grill and the octopus was so so so tender and delicious. It comes with grilled vegetables and this amazingly good sweet mashed potato! The best sweet mashed potatoes I've had! The price is also awesome for the portion.
