The food was delish fresh, seasoned & cooked to perfection. Authentic Pina Colada made with all fresh ingredients. The shrimp service plate was a small & the juice was so good we ate it with chips. Chicken tacos was delicious. This is true Authentic Mexican food that the locals eat at. They have an outside covered patio area. Street parking is available. The prices are very reasonable. Friendly & courteous staff. Definitely recommended and will return the next time I visit PDC. 5
In Tulum with the fam and was hankering for some seafood. This place highly recommended by a local gentleman. The restaurant is bright and clean and we were seated quickly as there were not many patrons There was no air conditioning but we were seated by some great fans that cooled us down but blew every napkin around. We had then noticed the cash only sign so my husband had to walk to the bank on the corner to obtain some cash while we waited. They placed chips and bean dip on the table which was great. The beans were flavorful. We ordered a big platter that came with lobster, crab, octopus salad, shrimp, fried fish fillet, fried snapper, calamari, and rice and beans. The presentation was very nice but besides that, it fell short in a big way. Everything was very overcooked and rubbery and it all came out lukewarm. Had they paid closer attention to cooking time and served it right when it was done, I am sure it would have been better. My son got steak tacos and he said they were nothing to rave about either. My daughter ordered nachos with no meat but you had to still pay for the meat so we got it in on the side. Our server was attentive and tried his best.
I have come to El Camello twice and it is a neighborhood staple. You get a huge plate of food for a decent price with chips and all the sides. I got the octopus al diablo, the other flavors are also good, and this is a known local hangout. Great low key tulum town vibe and quick service.
The shrimp cocktail was terrible- I'm pretty sure they just boiled the shrimp and then added some sort of tomato juice mix- would definitely not recommend. It hardly had anything else and it was served in a talk glass, so it was very hard to mix. If you look closely, you can see that it wasn't even mixed together completely.The grilled shrimp was ok and so was the Paloma I ordered, nothing special.
I've been wanting to try this seafood place but never get to it when I'm visiting. Located on the main strip in La Veleta, this is a nice local vibe. I had the mixto ceviche (small) which was enough for 2-3 people as an appetizer. I had the grilled garlic fish for main dish. Everything was fresh and tasty. Service was good and quick. I recommend for a simple and inexpensive seafood meal in Tulum.
Now this is a spot all the locals frequent! We heard by word-of-mouth that this spot was truly authentic, and had some of the best, flavorful food in all of Tulum. We went to order a couple of drinks, but the main star of the show was that ceviche I ordered. They have different sizes and options for your ceviche; I chose the medium-sized fish because we had previously eaten out earlier in the night. I was blown away by the portion size and how tasty it was. The fish tasted fresh and not fishy if that makes sense. We had the leftovers wrapped up in a taco box, and the waiter was kind enough to include fresh chips for the journey home. The inside was decorated with a lot of murals and was a super cool look. There are tables both inside and outside. This place is cash only and almost all of the bus boys, waiters, and bartenders only speak Spanish, so be prepared. I already can't wait to go back maybe even tonight!
The portion sizes are insane here. They give you chips and salsa as part of your meal, so probably don't need another dish with chips (the nachos were good though). The garlic on the fish was too much. We were all burping all night. However, the food was delicious. The ceviche was the best in the area. A ton of locals and tourists alike. Cash only. ATM right next door, but always a line.
Food is fresh and delicious. Server was warm and friendly. It's a nice local spot with charm. I appreciated how they keep it about the food and service not like the tourist traps in the area with terrible food and service but it's okay because they have photo ops ::eye roll:: El Camello Jr was a breath of fresh air and one of the places that gave me hope that not all of Tulum has been ruined.
After watching numerous YouTube videos and going through Yelp - this place stood out!! I love trying locals favorite spots! My husband and I ordered the breaded shrimp tacos, this platter of seafood (tilapia, fish filet, lobster, crab, calmari, octopus, shrimp with rice and veggies) and a small ceviche. Even before the food came out they give you a plate piles high with tortilla chips and various salsas and a bowl of beans. Food was delicious and very flavorful! Would totally come back the next time in Tulum. Btw they accept cash only - and will convert USD & Euros for a small fee.
This was my favorite meal of my trip and I was in Mexico for 11 days. There were more locals than tourists in the restaurant which speaks to how good it is. We ordered a large ceviche platter, grilled seafood platter and drinks for the 4 of us and our bill was under $80 total. The same meal in the US would have been over $200. We honestly loved all of it and if it was closer to where we were staying then I would have gone back
If you're looking for the freshest ceviche in Tulum, this is the place to be! I have never had ceviche this good and the serving for a small order was good for 3-4 people. The price is very, very affordable as well. We also ordered fish and shrimp tacos which both were equally as good. The sauces on the table is a must with your tacos. Also have to mention how good their bean dip is which was complimentary when they serve you the tortilla chips. Service and ambiance is what you would expect from a local restaurant - warm and accommodating to your needs.
This place was located a half block away from my hotel during my recent Tulum trip. Anytime you walk by after 12pm the place has a line out the door and down the sidewalk. I decided I wold check it out on my 2nd day for lunch since the crowd wasn't so bad. Grabbed a seat at the front in the outside area and was welcomed with chips and very good salsa. I. had to stop or I was gonna be too full for my lunch entree. I wound up getting the mixed seafood ceviche which included lobster, shrimp and grilled octopus...very tasty! I killed the entire plate lol! Washed it down with a nice mai tai. This place is cash only so make sure you hitup the ATM before heading over. Servers are nice as well as the guys that appear to be the owner/mgr.
Though this place came recommended, it was our worst food experience on our trip to Tulum. Everything I ordered or tasted was pretty awful, the two stars is for the helpful server. The grilled fish tacos were tasteless, the shrimp nachos were covered with cheese that tasted like glue and the shrimp were simply laid on top, no seasoning. And to make matters worse, we can only pay with cash. I went to the cash machine and made a mistake thinking I was getting American $$ but ended up taking out only $17 in pesos which cost $8. I had to do it again and that cost another $8. That aside, the food in this establishment was simply inedible. read more
This was my first stop on my vacation to Tulum and it was a great experience. Food prices were cheap and the meal was good. My friend and I purchased a hamburger and when it was served we started to laugh - there was a random hot dog on it. I've never seen that but maybe that is normal. The burger itself was tasty. I tried the shrimp ceviche and it was very fresh. To top it all off, I enjoyed the best NA pina colada of my trip. It wasn't overly sweet - so tropical. You must enjoy one of those. read more
Over the years, this has become a must stop for my family while visiting Tulum. Specifically for the shrimp ceviche.... Family staple. It's served fresh, flavorful, and generous portion. We also enjoyed the hamburger with fries. First time I've had a hot dog on my hamburger and it was actually good. Non-alcohol Piña colada was refreshing and delicious. The flavor was so real and non-artificial. This spot is enjoyed by the locals and everyone is welcoming. Staff are friendly and attentive. I love how you can sit outside and also inside. Our party was fairly melty from the heat so we scored a table underneath a ceiling fan. read more

Run... don't walk to this place! It gets super busy on weekends, but for good reason. The ceviche is outta this world. We waited for about 15 minute on a Saturday, but they still served us drinks while we sat on the bench outside. It's really good food, with no frills. Affordable af! 10/10 recomend! read more
The mixed Ceviche was amazing! (We ordered it without the snails) it comes with a huge plate of Totopos and you also get a delicous side of beans and spicey salsa. The natural waters are also very good, we tried the strawberry one and the mango one. The only negative is that it is unfortunately cash only, so you do have to come prepared (like many places in Tulum) read more

Located at the south end of the 307 in Tulum is El Camello. Excellent authentic Mexican food in Centro Tulum that is reasonably priced and delicious. We had a seafood lunch that is consisted of shrimp ceviche, garlic octopus and garlic buttered lobster. All of the dishes were impressive. The lobster was definitely the star if the show and not very expensive comparatively. Cocktails were super good as well. Had margaritas and pina coladas and only about $5 USD. The service was also excellent and they also allowed our dog Max to join us on the patio. This place is where value meets deliciousness and I would recommend a try if you're in the area. read more
El Camello Jr. is a no fuss, traditional Mexican seafood restaurant. The food is delicious, simple and affordable. The restaurant is visited with a mixture of locals and tourist alike. It's not like the trendier restaurants you see on social media but if you want great food this place won't disappoint. To start the place takes cash only. Fortunately we had pesos otherwise if you had dollars theirs a conversion fee. The food was fresh. We ordered the shrimp aquachiles, the lobster and a few drinks. We came a second time and ordered steak nachos w the lobster. We couldn't resist stopping by for another round of lobster before we left. One thing I did notice was that the quantity of lobster changes. It may be our personal experience but the first time we had 1.5 lobster (3 pieces) and the 2nd time we only had 1 lobster (2 pieces). It wouldn't be an issue but the market price for both visit was the same. Other than that the place did not disappoint. Honestly I went to a few restaurants at Tulum and this place offered better value than the really posh, unique restaurant. If you're ever in the area or are staying at Coco Hacienda please give place a try. read more

Was craving seafood and stumble upon this place. Looked at the menu and saw cocktail shrimp. It's been awhile since I had one so I went ahead and ordered it. Then saw ceviche so I went ahead and ordered that. Both were good! It hard to find a place that actually make both pretty well. This place isn't expensive either, so I definitely will be coming back! read more

I was craving ceviche and this place totally satisfied my craving. We ordered a large fish ceviche and a seafood platter. The ceviche tasted super fresh and had just the right amount of sour-ness. I was surprised at how huge the seafood platter was especially for the price. Some items tasted better than others but I loved the fried fish and lobster. You can tell that a lot of locals frequent this place which made the experience more authentic! read more
One of my favorite eateries in Tulum. Wanted something besides tacos and did a quick yelp search and man did it not disappoint. Quiet mom and pop restaurant that serves a variety of items on the menu but what I came for was the ceviche. We were a group of 8 and were quickly seated upon arrival, given menus, and given chips with salsa and beans dipping sauce. Chips were fresh and crunchy nothing was stale. Bean dip was salty and smooth consistency. Salsa was good and had an amazing kick to it. Ceviche available was the fish, the shrimp, and the mixto which consisted of octopus, shrimp, and sea snail. I opted for the Mixto without the snail. Sizes are small, medium, and large. The small is a good size for one person. I was greedy and went with the medium, it's a great size and I had plenty to take home and enjoy later. The shrimp and octopus was so fresh and seasoned perfectly in lemon, onion, tomatoes, salt and pepper. Ate them with chips and were perfect by itself. Guacamole was smooth, fresh, and flavorful. CASH ONLT. They primarily take pesos but if you have American USD they take it but with a small conversion fee of course. Service was great and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Will def come back here when in the area. Wish there was something like this back in the states. read more

CASH ONLY! After spending some time at Laguna Kaan Lum we arrived at this restaurant around 3:15pm on a Friday afternoon and got a table quickly. But shortly after us, people were waiting to get a table. They are located right off the main road. We found parking on the main road but had to circle a few times around the block. They gave us complimentary chips, salsa, black beans, limes and some chili pepper sauce. We ordered 3 fried shrimp tacos and a fried snapper. Unfortunately they were out of octopus tacos that day. They also brought out a bottle of their chipotle mayo sauce. Food was good, nothing special or fancy. Food came out quickly and with a couple of drinks it came to under $18 with tips. Watch out for flies circling around your food. read more
At the end of a long day of tours, our guide took us here so we could try some of the best seafood in the area. We were a group of 7. We were seated right away. Upon arrival, everyone had to use hand sanitizer and had temperature checks. The restaurant is fairly large. There were a decent amount of people there, but our table was spaced out from other people in the restaurant. We started off with drinks. I had a margarita and it was good. Our guide helped us with ordering our food since he was familiar with the menu. For food, we ordered a large ceviche for the table, as well as chips & guacamole. The guac was tasty. The ceviche was fresh and yummy. We also ordered garlic shrimp which came with a side of rice, beans, vegetables, and tortillas. If you like garlic, you will definitely enjoy this dish! We also ordered the garlic octopus. Again, very garlicy and yummy. We made tacos with the octopus, beans, rice, and guac. Everything was very enjoyable. This was supposed to be a pre-dinner "snack" (we had reservations later that night), but we all left with happy, full bellies. The service was good and the prices were very fair for the quality and amount of food that we had. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

This place was recommended by several people at my hotel! There was a long wait to be seated, it's pretty popular! As with many restaurants in Mexico there's no ac and half indoor and outdoor seating! I ordered the fried fish which seemed to be a popular option as many people ordered it! My boyfriend ordered shrimp and ceviche! His food was served super fast and he was done with his by time I got mine. The service was okay and a bit slow. The taste of the food was average! The taste was minimal seasoning on the fish. The shrimp was overcooked and a bit salty. The ceviche was chewy and didn't seem fresh: Definitely nothing to brag about, but the prices! The prices were extremely reasonable compared to the US. read more

Came on a girls trip to tulum and this place was recommended. I have to say it's pretty amazing. We had a bit of an early dinner so there was no wait. Chips and dips are like a given. It was okay. I ordered the garlic fish fillet and that was bomb. I could not stop taking another bite. The fish was so soft and tender that it felt like it just melts in your mouth. I love having garlic in my food. The garlic with this dish gives it a natural, fresh and flavorful yet not too seasoned or saucy taste. It just went so well. I wish I can have this back in NYC. Mariscos are delish! You get salsa and sardines to go with your chips! We got a small cóctel de camarón with all Of our orders. It was cute! Main entrees were the ceviche de pescado, de camarón and de pulpo. Medium plate is big! The pescado frito plate is good too, could use a little more flavor. Hamburger was delish! Came here for lunch and sat outside. The inside is large, spacious and open air from the front. The seafood is fresh and can be prepared in many different ways. I choose the fried shrimp. Different from the breaded shrimp. The shells were left on but easy to peel off. For that reason - minus one star. Otherwise everything was perfect.
