The staff was amazing--genuinely friendly, incredibly attentive, and clearly passionate about what they're serving. You can tell they really know the food and love talking about it. One of the best parts of eating here is the feeling that you're right in the kitchen. The open-fire setup, the smells, the sound of everything cooking--it all makes the experience feel personal and relaxed, almost like you're hanging out with friends who just happen to be phenomenal chefs. I tried the tetelas and the short rib, and both were fantastic. The tetelas had that comforting, handmade feel with rich, local flavors. The short rib was ridiculously tender, full of smoky depth, and easily one of the highlights of the night. Kitchen Table's reopening feels like a win for Tulum. Overall we loved this dining experience. The only thing to watch out for is mosquitoes since it's right in the middle of the jungle. The restaurant provided both bug spray and smoke to drive the mosquitoes away but I still got eaten alive. Our favorite was the jungle bread. Extremely soft doughy bread that is just delightful. Ceviche was good but not as memorable for me. It has a nice tangy sauce. The roasted cabbage had great flavor and a nice balanced taste, although I tried to avoid eating too much of their sauce. I celebrated my 30th birthday here and was just overwhelmed with how amazing of an experience Kitchen Table provided! Kitchen Table is in the open-air jungle and the vibe is just immaculate. Our server, Antonio, was so friendly and welcoming. He made us feel like we were a part of the Kitchen Table family right from the start. He explained all of the menu items, gave great recommendations, and also gave us a quick tour of the kitchen so that we had an idea of what was going on. We ordered so much food and drink, but here are some of the highlights: Fresh fish tostada: Delicious, fresh, I can't even put it into words! Plantain gnocchi: So lightly sweet, and creamy! Jungle bread: I wish I could just eat loaves of this bread. I don't understand how bread can taste so good??? And the smoke butter that comes with it..omg just fantastic. Fresh lobster: This was a true standout. We got to pick out our own lobsters and even name them! They were prepared with a smoked butter, salt and pepper. Wow. They were cooked to perfection and was some of the best lobster I've had! Our favorite drinks were: Welcome to the Jungle, Tangerina, and Diablito My boyfriend emailed back and forth with the restaurant to request something special for my birthday like sparklers. At first, the restaurant said that they didn't do sparklers, which made sense -- it wasn't really the vibe of the restaurant. But, everyone in the kitchen surprised me with a sparkler and sang happy birthday to me and just made me feel so special. I truly appreciate Antonio and the rest of the wonderful staff. We had an amazing night here. The staff is excellent, starting with the hostess who insisted on helping me down stairs when I had a few issues and continuing through the servers who never let our glasses get empty - water or booze. The atmosphere is beautiful, with great lighting, fun but not too loud music, and lots of greenery. They also set up nice smelling mosquito repellers and brought spray to our table, which was appreciated. The food completes the trifecta. We started meal with a number of appetizers - the sopa, the pork belly quesadilla, the ceviche and a salad. It was all amazing, with fresh ingredients, great sauces, and generous portions. We followed up appetizers with incredible dinners. I got the short ribs, two friends the fish and one the pork belly. We are all convinced we had the best dish, even though we all know it was really me. Not only were the ribs fall off the bone tender, but it came with a rice side dish that I will be searching the internet to see if can find a recipe for. Pretty sure it will involve sweet rice and rice vinegar. We all ate more of our dinners than should have, but didn't want to stop. Then, we continued to unbutton buttons and ordered dessert. The Salted caramel chocolate and the dark chocolate desserts were amazing. Ok meal, wouldn't go back. We had traveled all day and this was our first meal in Tulum. We had to walk about 25 minutes from our hotel and we were tired. The restaurant is a beautiful outside spot with soft lights and candles. We were seated right away, ordered cocktails and shortly after our meal. I started getting bit by mosquitoes pretty early during our visit but the provided me with bug spray. Cocktails we're great! My bf had a mezcal sour and I had a Marilyn Monroe. We started with the jungle bread which came out hot with butter and salt, it was delicious! For meals I had the ribs which were pretty tough and dry. There was a purée and greens which were ok, and a cooked jalapeño on the plate which was too spicy for me to eat. My bf ordered and liked the beef but he also found it tough. As shared before, we were tired so after our entrees we asked for the check. We waited a while (15-20 min) and nothing. My bf got up to ask a server again for the check and came back to the table to wait. A server finally came over but was giving us a shot to finish up the night. We again asked the the check. I think we ended up waiting a total of 30 minutes before they gave it to us and then they had to go get the machine to charge us. This was probably one of my favorite meals in Tulum. The restaurant is tucked away in the jungle and all their ingredients are all locally sourced so everything is fresh and nothing is ever frozen. You're able to see the kitchen and the chefs cooking from almost every seat in the house, which is always an added bonus. The ambiance is very romantic and lit with candles surrounding the restaurant. We started off with the octopus carnitas and it was delicious! The octopus was crispy and flavorful and the flavor profile of the dish was well though out. Was this some Overton culinary experience....probably not but literally eating under a jungle canopy with quality service, cocktails, ingredients, and vibes can't be beat. Cocktails: amazing. I had the bourbon cocktail... it was a large drink, not a very turnt up large but larger than most cocktails. The sofa appetizer was amazing. Probablly my favorite food item. Came here for the tasting menu. First was bread, which was great. When the second dish came, they started taking the bread without asking when my partner wasn't finished, not cool. The 3rd dish had some sort of sauce that was given to everyone else but not us. Maybe a biria? Not sure because we never got it. The main was beef, which was good but needed more moisture, either a little more sauce or juice inside the meat. The other main, was fish, which was too salty on it's own. The desert was good but a little underwhelming, a small bit of plantain with some nutella it seemed. Plating was great, everything looked good, so if that's what you're after, they'll deliver. At the end, after completely finishing our desert, we waited for over 10 minutes constantly trying to flag someone down before we just decided to leave cash on the table and take off. They finally saw us when we were leaving and they stopped my partner behind me because they still needed to print the ticket even though we prepaid (required for tasting menu) because we got a carafe of sparkling water (90 pesos). We told them we left cash already and they insisted we see the ticket. I took a look and pointed back at the cash and then left. I did not leave a good tip because we waited for so long and the place was basically dead and there was absolutely no need for us to be waiting so long. I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done about the mosquitos, but it definitely was an issue and the place was constantly filled with smoke to counteract them. Food was acceptable, for the most part as being edible. This was our second time visiting the establishment. First time was last year, we expected same experience. We ordered fresh lobster, and pork ribs as the main. We also started with kids quesadillas, and adult quesadillas. The lobster was overcooked, recommend the chef invest in a thermometer. I knew it was gonna be charred when I saw the smoke in the kitchen, and the length of time the chef kept the lobster in the oven. It was dry, and lacked butter or any complex flavors. Also on the slightly over salted side. Potato side was excellent, and was a good addition. The pork ribs were also overcooked, they were closer to 160+F temperature not what I'm used to with pork being around 145F. The puree on the pork dish was actually the star of the dish. We lastly went 30+ minutes without a checkup on water, or anything else only at the end were we asked how the dishes were. At that point it's pointless to tell them it was subpar. We came to this farm to table Tulum restaurant for dinner. This is a more expensive restaurant, actually it was the most expensive one we visited while in Tulum ($132 USD for two, not including gratuity). The experience is interesting. The restaurant has a large, completely open kitchen set on a wooden stage-like structure, at a level just slightly higher than the ground in the middle of a jungle-like setting. The dining tables surround two sides of this open kitchen, making it the center of attraction. It's cool to see the chefs at work, the tools they use, etc and the very calm flow of things rather than the expected hectic kitchen. They have nightly specials and opted to try a couple of these. For one of our appetizers we had a tlacoyo, an oval, tortilla filled with beans and served with sausage and pico de gallo. We also decided to try their sourdough bread. Neither appetizer was great, the bread was missing that typical airy structure and sour taste that I'm used to when I think of sourdough, it was not my favorite at all. For one of our entrees we had a fish dish, it was fresh but kinda plain and boring. The other entree was the beef tongue special which was so delicious and actually really outstanding, it was the winner dish of the evening. The tongue was so soft and was served with a grilled sticky rice. For drinks we had the pulqui cocktail which was good, different. We also tried a couple of Mexican wines which were very good. For dessert we had the chocolate truffles which were a good end to our meal but probably more food than we needed. So good, we came here twice. I would recommend coming here with a larger group so you can sample nearly everything on the menu, which is actually quite small. Appetizers: (1) Mushroom quesadilla: A++. My favorite dish. If I were to come here again, I'd get an order just for myself. Crispy and cheesy, with a generous stuffing of mushrooms; don't forget to slather the garlic aioli sauce. (2) Crispy shrimp: Essentially shrimp tempura. Can't really go wrong with something deep-fried. It also comes with two fried slices of jalapeño - eat these at your own risk. (3) Deviled avocado: Served on a bed of sea salt. Maybe sprinkle one or two crystals on top for maximum impact. It's actually pretty rich; even for someone who loves avocados and eats them like they're going extinct, I don't think I can finish a half. (4) Arugula salad: Came with lots of figs, grilled pineapple, sunflower seeds, and blue cheese. Not on the same level as the quesadilla but I just really wanted some greens. From the fire: (1) Ahi tuna steak: Just look at how it glistens in my picture. I actually thought the side of potato salad paired really well. (2) Pork ribs: Tasty but not as tender and fall off the bone as hoped for. If you're ordering appetizers, I would try this as an entree to split between two people. What a welcome change of pace we found at Kitchen Table after the hustle and bustle of Hartwood the night before. This restaurant is the real jungle hideaway. Unlike at Hartwood, there was no wait, no bachelorette parties, no defeating soundtrack and no unreadable menu board 10' away from the table. Oh, and did I mention the food was better, as were the drinks. It was less expensive too. We had a variety of appetizers and one main course. Each one had a unique taste that complimented the dish from the sourdough bread (order it!), roasted corn with guacamole mayo, sea bass ceviche and the best of all tostados with fresh sea bass. Kitchen Table is a open restaurant with an open kitchen. It is cash only. They were not taking reservations when we went. I do think they take reservations, however. It has a pretty interesting menu, offering seafood and red meat. I think it's variable based upon the "catch of the day." It can be about $35 USD a person with drinks and entree, no appetizer or desert. When you walk up to it, the restaurant has a rustic wooden sign on one side and the menu on a chalkboard on the other side. They have large jungle doors with a canopy awning. You walk up a flight of stairs, passing a tiny alcove where people wait and get drinks to the host or hostess. That night we only had hosts and waiters, the bar was unattended. The host walked us up to our table where the kitchen table was more a stage. A stage of actors busily putting on a play or rather a dance. The orders placed on a hanging bamboo rod and the line chef reading them off. The others yelled out acknowledgements of the order. Someone attended the wood burning oven while others prepped meat and veggies. It was a show, to say the least, with the kitchen table being the center stage. I ordered the grilled octopus. My better half got the lamb chops. The lamb chops were paired with a fantastic curried lentil and lightly sautéed spinach. My octopus was dressed with what I thought was a chimichuri sauce, something with parsley and cilantro. It was served with a mashed sweet potato and fried onion rings. I got an interesting drink with mezcal and passion fruit. The waiters were so pleasant and unimposing. They listened. They cared. The allowed us to eat and be in awe of the kitchen table show without disruption but also were incredibly aware of what we needed. When in Tulum you should definitely check this place out. It is unique and extremely well done project. It is authentic and heartfelt. Unlike other Tulum hotspots, this one is done with the soul.... We have already planned to go once more in our trip. So so so so tasty. We did family style here where we ordered a large portion of the menu and just passed around dishes. Think like other concepts out here, the menu changes quite a bit so won't spend too much time talking about the individual dishes but I will say you can't go wrong with anything they're doing with langoustines and other fresh seafood. The salads/vegi dishes were also really flavorful/enjoyable. I cared a little less for the chicken/steak here, but they were still solid. The cocktails are also delicious/unique and beautifully presented - with fun names. Definitely recommend trying at least one. Group of 8 came out to $7550 pesos, which is about $400 USD - so very affordable and I'd say we were pretty stuffed, and very content. I liked the ambience of this place more than KinToh and Hartwood which felt more buzzy and busy. This was really chill and depending on where your table was located, could be really quiet/felt more private. Food was comparable with Hartwood in my opinion, and better than KinToh. Tip: Bring bug spray for when you're sitting at the table- as with most tulum restaurants, tables are located outside and restaurant generally is not enclosed from the outdoors (pretty open-format such that any areas with overhead cover are still exposed to outdoors/no walls/doors). We had our birthday dinner at kitchen table and loved every minute of it. We made reservations online (they got back to us within 24 hours) and we even communicated with the restaurant via WhatsApp because we had trouble getting a taxi there. The restaurant is in the middle of the jungle with an open air kitchen so you can see hear and smell the chefs working their magic. The restaurant has bottles of DEET for customers (bye mosquitoes!). Our group of five ordered the following appetizers: Deviled avocado (large avocado yummy kinda spicy filling), arugula salad (so good with figs (?)), and the fried shrimp (I wish I got 5 baskets of this for myself). Main entrees: Pork ribs (how is it so juicy and crispy!), arrachera (drool worthy skirt steak), grilled octopus (so tender), ahi Tuna steak (so fresh and flavorful), and veggie tempura tacos (everybody's least favorite dish). The main entrees were served with scrumptious potato salad, plantains, sautéed spinach, etc. They served us all mezcal shots since we were celebrating our birthdays and we also got the chocolate ganache and salted butter caramel dessert pots. I preferred the salted butter caramel since the chocolate ganache had strong notes of ginger and goat milk. We highly recommend the restaurant. Aldo was our server and he was lovely. - Had the sea bass. It was good but a bit salty for me. - Drinks were good. Bring bug spray. They do go around smoking the place but just double up on anything and everything. It's outdoors, near trees (which most of tulum was) but this restaurant, we particularly became mosquito buffet. Service at the end was EH. We had to ask for our check few times. Other than that, cute place. We did see that most of the guests came in just for drinks and not for food. read more
