Sure enough, we just walked right in and got a seat right by the beach. The prices here are inflated but expected given its location. I tried a salad and their berry smoothie. The salad was surprisingly good but the smoothie was very watered down. I would not get it again. Also there is free parking which is SO hard to find in this area. Overall, this is a great beach club to hang out, relax and spend the day. It's located a little away from the central section of Tulum Beach, but I actually consider that a plus, because the area around the beach club is much quieter and surrounded by more wild, natural beauty. I also loved the beach and ocean area here - the sand was pure and soft, with no rocks or stones in the water, which you usually find all over Tulum, especially in the upper beach area. This beach club is open to all visitors, and there is a minimum spend requirement per person for food and drinks. If I remember correctly, it was $50 USD per person. But if you stay there for the whole day, you'll most likely end up spending that amount anyway, since the prices on the menu are quite high. For me personally, it only took two drinks (two virgin Pina Coladas), one appetizer, and one main dish to go over the minimum; my final bill was around $65 USD. To be honest, the food wasn't super delicious; just good. The quality didn't really match the prices. The beach club has a large indoor restaurant area, as well as an outdoor area with many sunbeds and tables beside them. You can eat wherever you prefer. The service was just okay. My waiter wasn't particularly friendly, he just did his job. And at times, he disappeared, so I had to place my orders through other random waiters. Also, being in the first row by the beach, it was hard to get the staff's attention, since most of them were usually hanging out near the indoor restaurant area and didn't walk down to the beach very often. The beach club provides towels, so no need to bring your own. Their Wi-Fi worked well, even in the front beach area, though the connection was stronger inside the restaurant. The day I visited, there was a live DJ playing pleasant chilled beach music at just the right volume - enough to set the mood, but not disturb the relaxing vibe. I had a sunbed in the first row, and I loved being there. My sunbed was very soft and comfortable. They offer individual-sized sunbeds as well as larger ones that fit 2-3 people. If I remember correctly, the larger sunbeds come with a higher minimum spend per person. There's free parking, which is a nice bonus. And the parking staff were super sweet and friendly to me. To sum up: I can absolutely recommend visiting this beach club even just once, especially if you're looking for a more peaceful area of Tulum Beach, where you can be closer to nature and enjoy a fully sandy beach with no rocks. Just keep in mind that the food isn't amazing, so if you're a gourmand and want your beach day to include top-notch meals, this might not be the ideal spot for that. read more

Went on a girls trip and this was a great restaurant to start the weekend! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The vibe was upscale, lively, and great for photo/video content. We lucked out going on a Friday night and catching the cabaret show. The dancers really gave it their all with great choreography. The food was delicious too. Everything was shareable which is always great when with a party more than 3. The disco balls really added a flare to the vibe and the DJ put on great music that mostly all the tables, including ours, got up to dance. We also felt very safe which was a plus. I came here with my partner hoping to have a good time and dance the night away on a Saturday. The place isn't as packed on a Saturday and we ordered the open bar for two hours since it's only $60 per person. We ordered online so it was already paid for and the woman at the front knows this. We got a few drinks and I would say that the mezcal isn't as strong- my favorite drink was the Carajillo (coffee + mezcal a must) and jungle fever tasted savory which I enjoyed!!! If you really want to get lit I would recommend the Gypsy disco 75 as this one feels like it actually contains some alcohol content! We just got some watermelon salad to pair and it was really tasty actually. It came with some tomatoes and had a good flavor! Service was fast and I don't have any complaints really. The bathroom guy will offer you party favors which I didn't take any and maybe it's because it was 7:30pm - 10 pm but not a lot of people came nor did it feel like it was a party. Their Friday night looked pretty packed but I guess we just came on the low season. The reason why I'm putting this down 1 star is mainly at the end when we were talking about the bill I wasn't sure if I was going to be charged again for the open bar but we talked to the waiter about it and it's actually just good to have some pesos on hand so you can pay the exact amount you should be paying. So I didn't have any issue since I paid in pesos but the receipt looked sort of deceiving and not sure why they would include the open bar portion on it when it's already paid for. Just a minor thing that bothered me in the night. In the end it was still quite empty by 11-12 so we headed back and probably wondered if we went somewhere else it would be more fun. Expensive drinks which had little to no alcohol in them, got 2 and felt like nothing even 30ml mezcal would get me more buzzed than this so drinks are not worth it at $21 each. Tostada and Salsa for $15 with burnt pieces of tostada Main course took 40 mins to arrive that too after we asked if it will come. Beef birria was the worst beef Birria I had in my entire life I live in Seattle which has mid mexican food and even then I can get 100x better, it was flavorless, so bad that we left it after 1 bite. TLDR; the veggies are good. Gitano is half club and half restaurant. It's really loud in there so it's hard to even hear the person sitting next to you. The front of the restaurant is where people dine, and the back is for drinks and a makeshift dance floor. We just had dinner there. We had an 8:30 resso for a bach party of 11 people. Before you enter the restaurant, they check your bag very thoroughly for drugs, but then there are people selling drugs in the all-gender bathroom. It was pretty weird/uncomfortable. Not my scene. But if you want to know about the food, well that wasn't too great either (at least the meat dishes weren't too good). We had the chef's tasting family style menu. This is what was what was on the menu for the night (9/23/22): Guacamole with crudités - this was basic but it was actually a nice and refreshing way to start the meal Black Truffle Tlayuda (chihuahua cheese, huitlacoche, epazote) - I was excited to try this because I love truffle. I'll be honest I had no clue what the last two ingredients were, and I don't think I ever tried chihuahua cheese, but I figured it's truffle and cheese! You can't go wrong. Well there was some flavor in there I didn't like. Almost tasted like a goat cheese, which I'm not a fan of Mushrooms al Ajillo (ajo, guajillo, huitlacoche) - I liked this one. It was basically mushroom tacos. Simple but flavorful Chipotle Albondigas (sirloin meatballs, queso panela, epazote) - usually you can't go wrong with meatballs but this was a little dry Shrimp skewers (chipotle aioli, avocado purée) - this one was good. They had me at chipotle aioli Whole Roasted Cauliflower (Pipian salsa, mole rosa) - this was one of my favorite dishes of the night. Could also be because it came smothered in this delicious sauce Cochinita Pibil (12 hours roasted pork, red onions, habanero) - they should have shaved off a few hours of roasting because this was dry Grilled Chicken al Pastor (pineapple, roasted tomato) - another dry piece of meat. The flavor was nice though Chipotle Potatoes (rosemary, chipotle mayo) - can you really mess this one up? Grilled Asparagus (maldon salt balsamic reduction, parmesan) - forgot to snap a pic but pretty standard. I also don't love asparagus though Dessert was churros and a guava cheesecake. I liked the churros but didn't care for the cheesecake. It reminded me of something overly sweet you'd get in a supermarket Overall, it seems they do their veggie dishes pretty well and all the meat ones are kind of dry or just so so. On Friday, March 14, 2025, at approximately 9:30 PM, my best friend and I made the horrible decision to enter Gitano Tulum. Price to get in was $25 USD. That included nothing. We could not even sit down anywhere there was free space. Margaritas were $25 a pop- by the first 20 minutes here, we are $50 deep. And for what? Horrible, HORRIBLE music. I thought that maybe they had someone's Grandma's Spotify playlist playing. Turns out it was a LIVEEEE DJ. Embarrassing!!!! To top it all off, you are harassed by THE WORKERS OF GITANO on your way to the bathroom to buy drugs. Security everywhere. And yet they allowed MALE WORKERS to enter the women's bathroom to try to sell drugs. It was and unsafe, stinky, and truly pathetic mess. The Mexican police that patrol this area should visit this place more. I highly suggest you find another location to enjoy your evening in Tulum. Trust me when I say that this place is NOT that location. read more

The dining experience here was incredible! From the very first impression, I was amazed! The curation of a true jungle disco environment was something I had never experienced before, and I loved it! There were lush plants everywhere, gleaming disco balls hung around the dining areas, and plenty of seating for a healthy amount of dinner guests. The energy was not too loud when I ate there with a friend on a Thursday evening, but I do know their famous Friday night party can get a little crowded. But it's the moment, so enjoy it if you are into that! Our server Francesca was so sweet and was very intentional about learning and using our names every time she came to check on us. Her food and drink recommendations were all spot on! She was great with us, though I did notice a difficult group of diners next to us giving her some issues. They kept sending back their food and drinks which was annoying, but she handled it well. We got four small dishes to share- the guacamole, shishito peppers, the truffle flatbread situation and a watermelon/tomato salad- and two drinks. Dessert was the chocolate lava cake and ice cream. The two stars are for how cool the place is and the for the music. The lack of stars is for how overpriced and underwhelming the meal was. We have come here a couple of times years prior and I have to say this is a very different GITANO than the one we used to have so much fun at. We should have kept our memories frozen in time but instead I now have the memory of how overpriced the bill was at the end and how uncomfortable we felt being offered drugs on your way to the bathroom. For 4 of us we ended up paying $700 USD for our meal which is way more than we have even spent on a nice anniversary meal in the states. The lobster tostada was very small but was $60! You kidding me? They definitely think a lot of themselves if they are charging that for that. Drinks were decent but not worth the $22 and up prices they charge for them. Unfortunately I just think this place has let its popularity go to its head which has made everything else go down. If you are thinking of going on your trip to Tulum I'd suggest thinking twice. We preferred other locations over this by a long shot. They had a small dance floor, but you could tell that it wasn't the priority. First of all, this establishment is very pricey. I ordered their tacos and margarita. Both mediocre at best but expensive nevertheless. You can tell their focus really isn't the food. Since this was my first night I didn't know but they charge you for a jug of water.... and they don't tell you until you see the bill. I know now that it is very common practice to charge for clean water in Mexico, but they didn't even tell us about the price and kept asking if we needed more water... Their tequila shot I think it's worth it to try though - it's in a very big glass and it's pretty smooth. Since it was a bachelorette party, they surprised us with sparklers and free small cake. There was some dancing on a small dance floor, but I guess Thursday nights aren't as popular. This was my group's first dinner in Tulum, and it couldn't have been better. We got seated in a nice corner section. We all (6 of us total) had plenty of space to sit and be comfortable. We had a dinner reservation for 8:30pm on a Friday night. When we got there, it wasn't too busy, but as the night went on, it got busier. The vibe and ambiance of this place is very party meets Tulum meets Ibiza. The food and drinks were all incredible. They were incredible, but pricy. But you have to expect that, when you are on this street where all these restaurants and clubs are. The drinks were the perfect balance of alcohol and mixers. They definitely did the job, all while tasting so refreshing and cold. The food was excellent as well. We got the grilled chicken and the asparagus. It was so good. Every bite tasted good and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly. While we didn't get it, one of the couples in our group got the cochinita pibil. They said it was so good, and I even tried it, and I couldn't have agreed more. We were also celebrating our friends getting newly engaged, so we told the staff, and they brought out some sparklers for them, it was a nice touch. Gitano doubles as a club as well. We left around 10pm, so it hadn't turned into a club yet. But you can definitely tell that as the night went on, they were preparing for large groups of people to come in. The place has plenty of picture opportunities, so definitely explore the place a little before you leave for some good picture opps. One thing to be wary of is, that when going to the restroom, you will be confronted by some people selling drugs. Just tell them you are not interested, and they will leave you alone. Unfortunately, this is pretty common throughout Tulum. Overall, we had a great time at Gitano. It was the perfect place to start our night. The food, drinks, vibe, music were all excellent. Gitano $$$ Ambiance is very very loud. We came for dinner and it was expensive compared to everything we had eaten up until that point. The food is average to slightly above average, but it's *really* expensive. Like ~$450 pesos per small plate and ~$550 pesos per large plate expensive. We had the tuna tostada, the guacamole, the sweet potatoes, the crispy fried chicken, the asparagus, and the black truffle tlayuda for 4 people that we split evenly. The food was average and inmemorable. I took a lot of photos of the food and the menu, but if I didn't I would've struggled to remember what we got a few days removed from the Gitano experience. The was filling enough that we didn't have to eat anything else but we didn't feel stuffed. You are paying for the ambiance and the experience that you went to Gitano in Tulum. This is something the restaurant can't super easily control, but I was absolutely eaten alive by mosquitos here. I emptied a full 4oz bottle of bug spray and I was *still* eaten alive. Either couldn't get reservations, they were closed for maintenance or closed for a private party lol. Finally on our 6th visit to tulum, we were able to!!! The restaurant is beautiful, no doubt. From the front seating areas to the back garden, the tiled bar that girl after girl was taking photos in. It is 100% a vibe. I asked what a gypsy party was and the staff said it's like the feeling and energy that people bring.. to the party. A line built up outside for the Friday night DJ which as others have said, created a "dance floor" in the small space right by the dining tables, so you're either invading someone's space or being invaded upon. We were seated much further away but also felt quite harassed on our way to and from the bathroom but not-at-all inconspicuous peddlers of whatever substance you'd like. Especially annoying since they search every crevice of your bag and wallet when you come into the restaurant, so it almost feels like they're invading your privacy there to make sure you buy drugs inside? I can't think of any other explanation. They're not looking for weapons. My partner pointed this out with the staff and they acknowledged the discrepancy, noted he's not the first to mention it, and shrugged it off. Some of this would have been forgiven if the food and drinks were better but they were just ok. Black truffle tylayuda may have been our favorite but you toss truffle and cheese on anything and it's a winner. Cochinita pibil was very underwhelming. Mushrooms al ajillo were surprisingly good but it was a very large side - wish it came with an accompaniment or other flavors/textures. Kisses in the car is basically our fave drink usually but this one didn't deliver - Tacolicious in SF still makes the most addicting passionfruit habanero marg! We came during low season (August) and it was very humid and hot. Our group was celebrating a birthday, so we came in knowing we had a minimum spend. To start off, we ordered a mix of individual cocktails and jungle bowls for the table. If you're with a large group, get the jungle bowls and drink them FAST before they dilute. For the food, the portions were tiny, even the "large shares". Think 1 lobster tostada for the small share and 2-3 tacos max for the large shares. The food wasn't bad at all, just overpriced as hell. Get the churros, they were perfect. At one point, someone ordered a margarita and the server tried to scoop a cup from our jungle bowl, which was ridiculous. Honestly, because we had such a large group, they probably added a few items on our bill that we didn't order since we couldn't even keep track. We got seated in a non-covered area on a very rainy night. When we asked to move they were borderline rude in their response "this is what you booked, the covered tables are for guests who will be spending a lot of money." We were only given one booking option when we made the reservation - so not sure how we were supposed to know? The guy actually said to us, "you only have 1:15 left on your reservation before we need the table for other guests so I'd recommend ordering soon." The food was mediocre and we ended up having to get up after only ordering apps because it started to monsoon. Shocker. Dining in a jungle under disco lights was definitely a unique experience. We were seated right away with our 8PM dinner reservation. It wasn't that crowded but by the time 10:30PM hits, its completely packed and a big party with lots of bachelorette parties. I enjoyed the music that was played however it was way too loud. (Modern disco/house kind of music, similar to what you hear in Europe). It was difficult to talk to my friend and our waiter. Although it was very mesmerizing watching the disco lights flash in the dark, with low lit lights and candles through the jungle trees, it was difficult to see our food and menu. Our waiter was really good at the beginning answering our questions and giving recommendations but as the dinner went on he was less attentive to us as it got more crowded. We had to request more drinks from another waiter that passed by. In the end they tried to push us out of the table by telling us we passed our time limit which we weren't aware there was one. They gave us the bill and made us pay right away which seemed rude to us. We never got to order dessert and this dinner for for my friend's birthday. For drinks I had their signature cocktails. Jungle fever and mezcal mule. I enjoyed both but they were quite expensive which is standard in Tulum (about 22 USD) . The drinks really did pack a punch though. It made us feel relaxed and happy quickly. My friend thought they might have laced the drinks haha. For our appetizers we had the guacamole which came with an assortment of veggies and gigantic chips. The guac was pretty basic but I was surprised at how pricey it was (25USD). I couldn't resist I was craving guac so I had to have it. We also had the shrimp aguachile. It was pretty sour but I did enjoy the flavors of it. For my entree I had the crispy chicken Al recado rojo. I loved the juiciness and crispiness of the chicken. The sauce was really amazing. It was sweet and savory, similar to an Indian curry. The portion was somewhat small though. After our dinner we decided to stay longer for the night club portion. The dance floor was actually where the dining area was which seemed cramped when bumping into the tables chairs and people still eating. When going to the restroom you will be harassed by drug dealers who some would take no for an answer. Which was what happened to my friend who responded to one. Just ignore them completely and walk fast. We decided to order drinks at the bar to party more at the dance floor. To our surprise, a simple vodka soda was $25 USD! We decided to leave and party somewhere else after that since it wasn't worth it. read more

My girlfriends and I recently had a few drinks at Gitano after dinner nearby and it was POPPIN'! When we arrived, there was a line (most other bars nearby had a line too) and we were informed it was $25 cover charge per person but it included 1 drink ticket. Considering drinks are basically $20 each, it's not too bad. We were originally told via email that it would be $50 per person + 1 drink ticket, so $25 was a pleasant surprise. When we entered, the entire venue was PACKED! The dance floor, tables, bar area, bathroom - literally no space to move. I made my way to the bathroom where I was greeted by a friendly drug dealer that offered me an assortment of drugs (that I obviously declined), but he was there all night long and I saw many transactions take place. The bar is super packed and it was difficult to get a drink. But their drinks were delicious! Service can be a little slow, there isn't an organized line, so it can be a little chaotic. I know we are at a bar and people are obviously intoxicated at bars, but it seemed like a lot of people were under the influence of things other than just booze. They closed at 1:00 a.m. on Friday night, which I was surprised by since it was still really crowded. We were having a great time on the dance floor and wished they were open a tad later. Gitano is a beautiful restaurant located oceanside by the mayan beach of tulum. The moment you walk in you know you are in the jungle. The sand paved way leads to the restaurant which also leads to the ocean. When we checked in with the hostess, we were sat in the immediately and were quickly approached by the server. The 3 stars is mostly for the ambiance of this restaurant which is really cool! We went at night so the lighting was low and had a romantic ambiance. We went to the beach location (which was obviously hard to see at night) so I'm sure the view is absolutely beautiful during the day time since it's right on the beach! The food was below average especially for the price point. I had the fish tacos which were $20 USD for 3 tacos that were average-- at best. The texture of the breading & juiciness of the fish was really yummy but the flavor was completely lacking. The slaw on top was bitter and watery. It felt like something was missing from this dish. My fiancé had the ribeye which was ~$40 USD. It was a big cut but the only sides he got was 3 PLAIN MINI bell peppers.. We could barely taste the truffle on the truffle fries. Even our drinks (non alcoholic) were sour and not appealing. So I can't speak on how the alcoholic drinks are but I wouldn't waste your money on the food and would just suggest to come for a drink to experience the nice ambience & views of this place! read more
