Visited on a Friday evening with friends for casual wine and food. Our order: - bruschetta: very good - burrata: good - mushroom empanadas: okayish - monte sereno flatbread: very good - combo flatbread: very good We also ordered Pinot noir and cab flights which were both great. Overall we were very happy with the food and wine experience. The staff was VERY friendly to us and our lil pooch. They let the dog sit inside and gave a bowl of water for him. I started coming here when they first opened as I live close to down town MV... there tiny bubble flights keep getting shorter and shorter . FYI $30. Seriously you can fill it it up a bit. Literally if you pour them in one glass, your still completely not filling one at least half way. I've been to many places with flights. This is ridiculous. After a hike, the girls had to treat ourselves to wine lol There ample seating on the patio and the server was so welcoming to my dog; even allowing him to sit in a chair at the table. We ordered two flights and 4 glasses of wines and all were great. I didn't have high expectations for the food but I was pleasantly surprised! We ordered a lot from the flatbread, wrapped dates, empanada, and dessert; everything the waitress recommended was amazing. They even brought out a dog bowl for Jax. Love love love absolutely love the place! Went here during the thanksgiving week. The staff is so good with their service. We had a small dog with us and the staff made him feel really comfortable too ( they got him a bowl of water and allowed him to sit on the couch since the floor was super cold) Wine : We tried three flights: the cab flight, Pinot flight and the California flight. All were great. What I loved was, each flight came with three glasses. There was enough tasting in each glass so you didn't feel like you got just a sip and the three glasses in every flight were enough to get you through the meal. Food: their menu is quite small but everything we tried on their was delicious. We got spicy bits that went well with our drinks. bruschetta was awesome! The burrata was alright. Mushroom empanadas were amazing! We tried two flatbreads, both were great. Ambience is that of a pretty and relaxing hangout place. Comfortable seating and good lighting. Overall a great experience. I was by the one in Cupertino a while back and strangely it was closed . That has always been my favorite as the Los Gatos one was always too crowded (guess that's changed with the times Im guessing). Well Le Plonc went quiet and now Rootstock MV emerged in its place. Looks almost the same except now there's seating along the street in addition to the sidewalk. Definitely not nearly as crowded as LG but not quire the charm of Cupertino. I took my parents here because they like wine. I don't like it so that part wasn't really important to me. The food was really bland in my opinion, however, perhaps it's made with the intention of pairing it with wine. The mochi ice cream was my favorite part. My mom loved the food and my dad was happy, too. Service was awesome. The guy who helped us was so friendly, mild mannered, and wanted us to have a good experience. Wow! Chris what a nice experience. In town from DC and the Seattle area we randomly stopped in for a bite before heading to the airport. Time was a bit of a crunch. Chris your were kind, hospitable and really went out of your way in the most gracious manner. (Owners and manager note). You guided us in wine selections even brought a comparison without our even asking. You offered help when we asked, about our food choice. Though our time was limited it felt relaxing and enjoyable. And the food and wine selections were on point. Everything came out timely and the flavors were outstanding. We had a mushroom and pesto flatbread that was full of flavor, balanced not a garlic bomb. We enjoyed the Caprese Salad and the Beets and Arugula salad as well. Again full of flavor! Next time we are in town, we'll be back. For anyone out there reading this, give them a try. Came here to celebrate my best friend's birthday and it was a great experience. The server was super friendly, helpful, and suggested the best wine. She even brought out some for us to sample before we settled on the Dessert Wines Flight (10/10 recommend if you are into sweeter, more subtle wines). The food was delicious and shareable. Sadly, I tried to love this place. I really did. I've had two negative experiences here. Would not recommend if you're looking for a trusted wine bar in your neighborhood!! After sitting outside and getting verbally attacked and threatened by a senile old man who kept saying "I am the police" as he came closer in a aggressive tone, I've been hesitant to return. Nonetheless, the second time, I call ahead and place an order for pick up. I was getting my hair done down the street and was having a blonde transformation done. This service took me over 5 hours! I was beyond starved and really looking forward to a warm meal at home. I called ahead of time and when I get there I'm told to wait over 10 minutes for something I placed for pick for over 30 minutes ago. Trust me, I'm very patient and still waited while it was made. However I live in Oakland so the traffic from Mountain View to Oakland is TERRIBLE. I eventually grew tired from waiting and ended up leaving there at 5:45-50. (Order was placed for pick up at 5:30) In my opinion, the sandwiches are good! I wouldn't eat there to save my life. Which is why I tried take out but... Nevermind. Lol Good luck to this place and thanks Ryan for being so patient while we tried to get my refund going. They said I have a free sandwich or something but between this and the customers attacking me... I will steer clear from this drama filled place. read more

It's Always super fun at Rootstocks. As a member we get 2 Free tasting events every month which is awesome. Each event has a diff winery. The wine selection is great overall and there is a great food menu as well - the Chicken pesto sandwich and Flatbreads are really good. The only warning is to Verify your wine bottle price with your server before purchasing - there are a few prices listed on each bottle and it's confusing. I've paid extra when I expected a lower price a couple times. Besides that concern, everything else is great!! read more

While good it's WAY over priced for what you get. With tip our bill was over $70. We had two beers and two flat breads. Portions are small, both in food and drink. I had the Monte Serrano and my husband had the combo. The balsamic on mine was extremely sweet. His combo was the better of the two. Will we go back, probably not. There are too many other places on Castro that have good food with decent portions and prices. read more

Went for happy hour on a Friday night- great experience. Lots of tables, you seat yourself and staff come get your order. HH ends at 6pm so be there a few mins before and order a few glasses from the HH menu and you're golden! Bring a good book or you can people watch and enjoy some flatbread and good wine. read more

I stopped by recently after dinner to kill some time and have a glass of wine while waiting to pick up my wife at the airport. Even though it was 30 mins before they officially closed, I asked if I could grab a quick glass of wine. The staff was super friendly and accommodating and told me to take my time and enjoy. With their original location in Los Gatos, they focus a lot on the wines of Santa Cruz Mountains, which is great. The wines are typically more restrained, with lighter extracts, higher acidity, and generally more finesse than you'll find in wines from the Napa valley floor, which tend to dominate what others thing of California wines. In addition to quite an extensive list of wines by the bottle at every price point (sub-$50 to $1000+), they also have pretty interesting flights and by-the-glass options. I opted to do the Pinot flight, which was fantastic. I didn't order any food, so I can't comment on their food offerings, but I will say that I'm impressed with the staff's level of knowledge of wine. Although we clearly have different palates, it was nice being able to nerd out with someone about wine. You don't normally find FOH staff that know more than the basics, so that was a pretty nice surprise! Next time I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stop by for a glass or two. read more
