My friends and I came here for the first time a few weekends ago on the recommendation of another friend. We knew they didn't take reservations (and it is small inside so prepare) so we arrived a good 10 minutes before they opened and got in the line that was already forming out front. Thankfully, we got a table right away- a cozy booth in the corner of the front room. They do have a cute patio too but at 10am it was still in the shade and was just chilly enough that we opted for indoor seating. They have a variety of cocktail options but I went with a good old bloody mary (see pics) which was tasty and hit the spot. As far as food goes, their menu isn't huge but everything sounded amazinggggg so I had a hard time deciding. I ended up with the turkey benedict since I couldn't pass up the jalapeno cream cheese. My sister got the superfood hash of which I ate the leftovers the next day for breakfast. Both dishes were amazing. Our server was great too- gave good recommendations and never left us hanging too long. We had a delicious meal here- we both started with pumpkin soup, which came with pita. I then had lobster ravioli- made in a cream sauce, garnished with feta and calabrian chilies. So good! Hubs osso buco was good, but spicier than expected. Small but thoughtful cocktail and beer list. Our server was lovely. Finally brunched here and it was great and I will be returning! The food was prepared well and the portions were large enough to fill you up but not go overboard. Croissant sandwich was delicious (I know my picture looks lame but the lighting was low in there). Super food hash was tasty and full of veggies. Thought it needed toast so we ordered a side but it really didn't. We'd call if Market Street Grille's vegetarian older sister because the options are tasty, slightly healthier (and locally sourced which is important and refreshing), but it's somewhat pricey. The price is worth the atmosphere, friendly/attentive service, and the local and deliciously prepared plates you receive. Iced coffee was strong but good. I wanted to get a brunch cocktail after seeing the nice selection they had. Opted for a sangria and it was good but also it tasted like a Four Loko on the low so I'm going to go for a classic mimosa next time lol. Super cute brunch in West Chester. Definitely recommend if you're in the area! Typically I head to Nudy's if I'm in the mood for a french toast or pancakes, but this was a nice change up. Sometimes you want farm-to-table/small hole in the wall dining instead of a chain, and it was spot on. Good portion sizes and carefully crafted dishes. Service was quick and my husband and I sat outside on a beautiful sunny day in the back. Would definitely come here with a group of girlfriends as well! Where there was once fine dining in this small converted apartment on E. Gay st. (Gilmore's being the last) is Roots Cafe. We went on Labor Day and I'm not sure if they were a server short but the service was a bit on the Jamaica/Caribbean side, speed wise. But once our food arrived it was very good. I got the scrapple benny and my wife got the hamburger salad and we were both pleased. Their potatoes were also excellent and all-in-all I would recommend Roots for breakfast or brunch. read more

This brunch place is amazing everything about it! My friend and I sat outside at patio by the pond with the koi fish! It was so peaceful and the service was great. I got a bloody mary, pork belly benedict, and shared the hummus and goat cheese with my friend. I have no complaints about the food everything was absolutely delicious! I've been here for lunch many times and a few times for brunch. I absolutely love this place. The food is so fresh, local and flavorful. I love that most of their ingredients are from local farms. My all time favorite thing on the menu as a vegetarian is the veggie burger. It's the best I've ever had. It's so flavorful and I love the avocados on it as well as the beet spread and sprouts. It hasn't been on the menu in a while and that saddens me. My mom loves the pear and goat cheese salad with half a turkey sandwich. That's her go to and my brother is all about the breakfast burger with the egg on top. There is something here for everyone and as a vegetarian, I appreciate that. My only complaint is that they always seem to have the same two sides: a side salad and pasta salad. I don't like pasta salad so I get he salad and multiple times the greens have been wilted or slimy so I usually don't eat it. Overall the service is great. Beware if you sit outside in the warmer weather. We've had some critter encounters like ants! I do love this place and wish it wasn't closed in Monday's. read more

this place is unreal. one of the first places I ate after moving to west chester and it never disappoints! the bacon arugula breakfast sandwich seems unsuspecting but OMG.... it is SO good. potatoes are always perfect too. the duck confit sandwich (and all their sandwiches) for lunch are delicious. the salmon farro dinner is incredible. also highly recommend their hot sauce! I have a bottle in my fridge and it is delicious and perfectly balanced hot & sweet. yes, their food is a bit pricey but not much more than other restaurants in the area really, and the ingredients are super high quality - you can tell. also, everybody who works here is so friendly and cool. you feel comfortable the minute you walk through the door! Wow! I went here for a special dinner and it was perfect. The waitstaff are excellent and the food is even better. The menu is small and changes regularly as they use seasonal, locally produced organic produce. The combination of flavors they put together are magical. I had the tempura mozzarella caprese and the vegan tamale. Both were excellent. He had a special with scallops, pasta and a prime rib sauce. It blew him away. We each found a desert to try and they were just as incredible as our entrees. I should have taken pictures of our deserts, but got too excited and started eating. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you haven't yet, go eat there. You will love it. read more

Today was my first time there. I wanted to make sure we got outdoor dining as I'm not ready for inside dining yet, so when I called they suggested we get there at opening, so we did. We were the first ones seated on the back patio. It was nice and the tables are spaced out. The service was great and I enjoyed the food. I was happy that the omelette was not over cooked. My only suggestion is to put some kind of canopy or covering over the outside as once the sun gets high enough, it gets really hot! read more

Great menu items, raw sugar on the table, loose tea leaves wrapped in a satchel, and my favorite hot sauce on the self.... yes I look for what hot sauce is being served... if an establishment is serving Tabasco in 2018, you lose me. Hank sauce, infused with cilantro - think he cleverly named it cilankro sauce... if cilantro is not your thing, he has others. Point is, Hanks sauce is bang bang. Let's stay focused though. Under the new owner, I'm not a fan. I used to get a lunch special, half sandwich and half salad for $11. They don't have that any more. Now the turkey wrap is $13, with a very sad side salad. This used to be my favorite spot in West Chester, but I won't be coming back anytime soon. They took down the art and community board in the front room too. :-( I do like that they're still organic/sustainability focused, though. read more

First off place is small so waits can be long.. they will take phone number and give you a call so you can walk around if weather permits. Hostess said 20-30 min but was an hour till we were seated .. after that things looked up. Service was good and the food was very good .. $75 for brunch for three a little pricey. Had shrimp and grits and side of bacon nice portion and addition of their homemade hot sauce was a hit. Side of bacon was a good value at $3.. would return and if just for food would be 4 stars but had I known wait was 1 he versus stated 20-30 min.. would have not waited. I have never been to Root because I'm not often in West Chester. After my experience at Root I think I must change that and come out more often. I loved the eclectic Homie atmosphere at this restaurant. My only complaint was that the room we were put in had a door that swung open every 30 seconds- 3 minutes blasting in a cold breeze. It was extremely distracting (annoying) and I honestly believe they should fix the door situation or not sit people in that room. Thankfully my meal was Excellent and very tasty. First (and last time) here. I've been meaning to try this place for lunch since I started working in the area a year ago. Pickings for vegetarians are slim. I tried calling to place a an order 2 weeks ago, was put on hold and hung up after waiting for 5 minutes. No big deal, figured they're swamped because the food is good. Called today and someone picked up after only 3 rings so I figured the odds were in my favor. They were not. I ordered the veggie burger and was asked if the side salad would be fine. I was ordering out because I was hungrier than usual and my usual fruit and yogurt weren't going to cut it. So when I sounded hesitant, I was told I could get home fries or sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes sounded good, so I chose those. What I wasn't told is that they would cost an additional $4. So I was a bit surprised when I arrived and was told my veggie burger came to $18. No big deal, I thought. The food here is supposed to be good. Then I got back to work and opened my box. What is pictured is exactly what I got. A tiny bit of lukewarm, charred sweet potatoes. I wanted to love this spot after ready such glowing Yelp reviews but it was unfortunately underwhelming. Location is perfect - right in the heart of downtown West Chester with all its charm. The interior feels like an old mom and pop coffee shop that makes great use of the space including an outdoor patio. I ordered the omelette of the day which was the "farmer's market" including Brussels sprouts and zucchini served with a side of rosemary potatoes. I also opted for a side of fruit (for $5...a little pricey IMO) and added avocado to my omelette. The veggies in my omelette were severely undercooked and it just made the whole thing very bland unfortunately. Pros: locally sourced, gluten free toast options, and almond milk. Cute and cozy atmosphere. Cons: underwhelming, but I may have just ordered the wrong thing. My server was super nice but forgot the extras I added to my order and hadn't checked on me until I was more than halfway done with my omelette. Menu looks good so it's worth a try if you are in town. I went hoping for a spot to work for a few hours and this is not the place for that.
