This is by far, really, really far, the best food in the Naples area! Everything I've ever had is delicious. If you're ever lucky enough to come when the Rueben sandwich is on lunch special, order it quickly bc it always sells out by 1:00. It was the best one I've ever had. Today we had split pea and ham soup with sour cream and cracked pepper, egg salad with tomato and sprouts on toasted croissant, a phenomenal salad special with greens, sunflower seeds, pomegranate seeds, crystallized ginger, feta, etc with house made lemon passion fruit vinaigrette, and a delicious pizza with spinach, apple, bacon and blue cheese. The crust on the pizza was excellent too. If I was forced to make one criticism, I'd say the pizza had a little too much cheese on it. I'd have preferred a little less so the crust was more prominent. For dessert, we had a layered coconut cake with salted caramel buttered rum! It was so good. Everything is house made and delicious! Seriously. Staff is accommodating and friendly. Roots is in a colorful and funky house with a very casual feel right on main st in Naples, can't miss it. Def recommend if in the area. We were in Naples for a long weekend had never been to Roots before but it came highly recommend. Understand that you should make reservations. We waited 90 minutes for Saturday lunch at 1pm. Spent our time waiting at the winery next door which was delicious. Once seated service was slow but pleasant. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich. Again nice flavor but a bit dry as was the bun. My husband had the burger, tasty but nothing extrodinary. Overall OK experience. Would not wait 90 minutes. also if we lived in the area would not revisit. Lovely, local, and delicious! So happy to have driven past this cute little front porch dining spot on our drive home to PA on Monday morning. The uniqueness of the big blue house, fun front porch dining setup and backyard vineyard view was just perfect. Our waitress was so sweet and greeted us with the most mouthwatering lunch + cocktail menu. Everything was top-notch...from food to service to atmosphere. Most everything on the menu is sourced locally and was very reasonably priced. Loved the "welcome home" feel of this place so much. The restroom has a window overlooking the vineyard, it's so lovely. So, onto the food....the best salad I think I've ever eaten: super fresh, extra lite vinaigrette dressing, field greens, red onion, sprouts. Shredded carrot, grapes, walnuts, and a cheese (sheep's milk?) that I'll describe as an "elevated feta." Superb! My partner got a grass fed beef burger and super yummy garlic fries. We are not sure why the burger was "round" (like a meatball - not bun friendly) but it was darn tasty! My entree was a vegan choice. I really wish I could say o loved it, but it was not good. I chose the fungi pasta: lacking flavor and variety in texture.. I returned it and ordered the miso-pumpkin pasta: also lacking flavor and texture, and the smoked cauliflower was bitter, not good at all. The pasta was over cooked in both dishes, for sure. Very cute little breakfast spot. We enjoyed our bagel sandwiches and coffee, which were good (but not great). This cafe has a very comfortable small-town-breakfast-joint feel to it. It's in a great location in downtown Naples so it's convenient to get to with plenty of street parking available. read more

Have been going to Roots on and off for years - Always has a good special (their brisket) or the menu has some good stalwarts as well. Beer is mainly bottled, which is alright but I'd prefer another tap to entice my tastebuds but the service and flavors are nearly always on point. NOT BIKER FRIENDLY... I'd like to say I tried the food... because it sounded absolutely delicious. But, we didn't. Why??? "Kitchen is closed." That's all we got as my fiance and I walked in the door to a 1/2 full restaurant in our Harley leather jackets after getting off the bike. We are used to getting put in the back corner, on the other side of the porch on nice days, and being sent the newest waitress who seems to have drawn the short straw. But to flat out say the kitchen was closed was a new one, even for us. I was even feeling particularly civilized that day and was going to use the silverware rather than steal it, but they didn't even give me the chance to redeem the entire biker population. Instead I think I will just write this review and post it on Facebook so all of the other bikers I know can spend their money elsewhere. After all, most of us have day jobs where we dress like normal people and have to go eat somewhere... for me, it won't be this cafe. read more

My wife & I agree with all the reviews that stated how fresh the food is. The beans in the salad were just delivered and hand picked three hours prior to us arriving for lunch. We also enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich and the Roots burger. All were excellent, uniquely prepared, and extremely tasty. We couldn't disagree more with Julie M. on her review of the staff. In fact, the waiter that served us remembered when they stopped in and still feels bad that they weren't able to serve additional customers as the kitchen was really closed. We are also bikers and didn't find any prejudice in any way as might be expected in some small minded establishments. I would recommend giving them another chance. The food and service are worth it! We stopped here during the Naples Grape Festival which is huge. My husband and I are vegan and we were worried we wouldn't be able to find a place to grab a bite to eat. We were wrong. This cafe is an refurbished federal style 19th century estate home. It is furnished with an eclectic, funky, groovy style with a small but balanced menu catering to omnivores and plant eaters alike. I am also gluten sensitive and they took the vegan black bean burger and put it on a salad for me. The beer, wine and craft cocktail menu is outstanding. Definitely stop by when you are in the area! I had heard wonderful comments and reviews of Roots from friends and had been dying to try this restaurant myself. My husband and I wanted to go out to a nice dinner before our first daughter was born so found this to be the perfect opportunity! We tried to go for my birthday but it didn't work out with their hours. I was nervous about the restaurant being really crowded since it seems small so I made a reservation just in case. When we arrived early we sat at the bar but there were only two other groups in the restaurant so no reservation was needed I guess. The bar has a lot to offer as far as beer and wine selections! We also loved the atmosphere. Upon sitting down to eat we had our choice of table. Again, the atmosphere in the dining area was so unique. We ordered the poutine which was incredible. I'm not a fan of mushrooms but my husband is. The gravy was delicious and the mushrooms were easy to avoid. My husband ordered the burger and it was delicious. The meat and all toppings were extremely fresh tasting and locally produced! I ordered a salad which included all seasonal vegetables and fruit, it was also delicious. The quinoa side dish was different, a cold salad, which I wasn't expecting but it was good too! Service was good since we almost had the place to ourselves. We were sort of celebrating the anticipated arrival of our daughter so we wanted to order dessert but they did not have a dessert menu. Amazing place in the Finger Lakes!! Right next door to a winery. We started off with the mushroom poutine, the gravy was made with red wine a tad bit salty however very delicious. I had the West African spiced Pili Pili shredded chicken over rice topped with cilantro and slaw. It was absolutely full of flavor and a great touch of spice. Very disappointed in the staff and the burgers. It was Saturday and after checking out Grimes Glenn we found this place on the internet saying "best burgers in Upstate NY 2017" loved the atmosphere and that there is outside seating. The host said there was a 20 minute wait which was confusing because the dining room only had 1 table in use. I tried to understand because I thought that they probably slowly seat people for a better flow and not to overwhelm the servers. We are told to sit at the bar and wait. The selection of beer and drinks were impressive and would fit anyone's desire. The bartender was very busy but friendly and made wonderful raspberry margaritas. About 35 minutes later we are told that there will be outside seating available for us soon. That got me excited because we did not request outside seating. 2 other couples come and are sitting, waiting for tables. Another 15 minutes or so go by and another couple was told to go to the bar to wait. There was only 1 chair available to sit and when the host noticed he told them "oh I have a table for you over here" It really upset me that we've been waiting 50 minutes and a couple that were told to wait get to sit down right away. We finally get to sit with a total wait of a little over an hour. My husband and I ordered the regular burger and miso burger, both medium. They were well over done, with a hard crunch to the outside of the meat. The server never asked how our meals were but while in the middle of eating asked us if we needed boxes, as if to try and rush us to get the table for another couple. When leaving I noticed most of the inner dining room was full. Not a nice flow of things :( Maybe we were not treated with respect because we are a young couple? I am not sure. Went there on a Thursday. Disappointed. Waited an hour for our lunch, so not off to a good start. When I asked the server to check on our order (because it had been an hour and people who were seated after us were already half way through their lunch), she simply responded with "OK". No, "oh I am sorry", etc. Another 5 minutes went by and she delivered our lunch. Still no apology for the long wait. The burger was the size of a slider. It's always a pleasure to visit Roots Cafe! They have a smaller, friendly menu with many good options for all diet types and taste preferences. The only con about roots is the time spent at the restaurant. If you're expecting a fast and easy meal, go somewhere else. If you're looking for a full experience with cute decor, a beautiful view, and quality time spent with the guests you bring, do it. Tonight I had a Roots Burger, which is the classic grass fed beef burger with a delicious slaw, garlic aioli, (and I added bleu cheese) all on a homemade bun. The house made fries are always yummy and slightly different from most restaurants you'll visit in the area, smothered with salt and dill and a hint of garlic flavor! Here's the good points. This past weekend was our first visit to Roots since before the Pandemic. They have speeded up their service. In previous years there was always a long wait between placing your order and receiving your food. They've improved. Also, I give Roots credit for surviving the Pandemic and being able to safely seat it's diners. Here's the bad points, based on two dinner visits June 4-5, 2021. The risotto dish they served was pretty bad. Large clumps of risotto that the cook could have broken up. The sweet potato burger my wife ordered was cold in the middle and fairly tasteless. One of the salads was also very dry, yet the croutons were soggy. We were told it's a pre-mixed salad. When my wife asked for additional dressing she was told there wasn't any left. Worse experience? Being served by a waitress with dirt under her chewed down fingernails is not the thing you want to see before dining. I've only ever seen garage mechanics with dirt under their chewed down fingernails. If you're from the suburbs and spent much of your life eating in AppleBees or any number of strip-mall chain restaurants, you'll probably find Roots unique. However, if you've eaten in some very good restaurants, you'll probably find Roots a below average dining experience. read more

Roots is a charming, unique place with absolutely delicious food. During the warmer months, they had outdoor (Covid safe) seating, which overlooked the beautiful vineyards. We had Sunday brunch at Roots while we were visiting the area from Saratoga Springs for a wedding. The restaurant is very quaint in an old Victorian house. There is also a winery/tasting room on the property. Very friendly staff but when ordered coffee was told that they were out of coffee... And that they only had decaf... What???? I was not happy:(. When ordered tea instead, they brought a variety of herbal teas. No caffeine:( they said they get their beans from a local source and their delivery would be in the next day. I did end up ordering decaf which did have a nice flavor. Everything else that they served was great quality, organic and healthy which I loved. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was great. The owners obviously are not hard core coffee drinkers or they would have run up to the grocery store to appease the addicted like myself, and others but all and all, I would go back The food was delicious and there is outside seating. read more

I had the breakfast polenta which was served with red pepper cream sauce, fresh salad greens , 2 over easy eggs and parmesan, fantastic! We came up here to get away from civilization for a bit and found this little gem! This place is next to a cute little winery and they serve their wine, too! When you first enter restaurant, the dark curtain and frosted windows make you feel as if you're entering a forbidden, magical place. Past the curtains, a glass display invites your eyes to wander over the variety of mouthwatering chocolates - you'll want all of them! The waitress comes greets you by the chocolate display and takes you past the curtains to a room that you didn't know existed. The room has seating for few and gives off the same vibe you felt the moment you entered. The waitress is a quirky girl in her 20's with piercings and short red bangs. She gives you the specials of the day. Everything on the menu sounds amazing and everything received is equally amazing. I ordered the mac-n-cheese - to die for!
