Just walking up to this restaurant I felt warm homey vibes -- the delicious smells wafting out the doors were only the beginning of our incredible girls brunch here. They seated us on the patio and despite it being a weekend, they got our food out very quickly. Words cannot describe the cast iron baked frittata -- it is literally my dream brunch dish. It is good I don't have access to this dish on a weekly basis, or I might be in trouble! Our group ordered almost one of everything on the menu and partook in everyone's dishes. Tucked into a historical federal style home Roots Cafe offers elevated home cooking. The best balance of comfort and sophistication. The host and server were friendly and helpful when it came to guiding me to the GF items on the menu. We enjoyed the specials that evening. I'm attempting to eat much more macribiotically, which is never easy when eating out. Their black bean and yam burger with the veggie salad as a side was the closest, and it was delicious! Mind you, these kinds of "burgers" never taste like burgers. I highly recommend impossible burgers to restaurants like Roots who'd like to provide an amazing burger experience for their non-meat eating clientele. But, that being said, I found the weightiness of the yam and black bean combo pretty satisfactory, and the bread was superfluous. I loved the look of the cafe and our server was nice, if somewhat inattentive. All in all, I'd go again. read more

We were such regulars here. It's a beautiful old building and this was our go-to spot for many years when we knew we could count on the quality of the food. Unfortunately more recently they have gone so far downhill it's shocking. The amazing brisket/the best anywhere-is now a dry, hard chunk of tasteless garbage floating on an alarmingly awful sea of also tasteless gravy. We thought it was just perhaps a bad day here or there, but after 5 recent attempts, we have come to the realization that the food is now totally sub-par. Even the French fries that used to be so good seemed to be rock hard & re-heated with a lot of extra salt to hide the lousy quality. I am not sure what they did-new owners? New cook(s)? Cheaper, somewhat questionable suppliers? I don't know. But our absolute favorite, go-to place for many years is a place we will never visit again. The service was friendly enough, but also subpar due to exceptionally long waits-even when the place isn't busy. The upside? The Inspire Moore wine is good-but of course that is provided by the aforementioned winery. Both thumbs WAY DOWN!!! Save your money!! read more

My son and I stopped in for Lunch and we were so happy with our visit! The food was amazing! We split the BBQ Picnic Board and Fries. He had a mocktail and I had a Shirley Temple. There was a lot of food and we were super happy with the taste. The pickles were a fun surprise. We sat at the bar and chatted with Jessica the bartender and Brittany the server. Really was looking forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, the service was very lacking and the food we ordered was not good/not cooked well. We ordered the only vegan option, the sweet potato burger, which is a sweet potato hash piled on top of a bun. When you ate it, it was gritty and the sweet potato were both hard and soft at the same town. Also unfortunately, our service wasn't good either! Our server never came to ask how our food was so we sat looking at these inedible "burgers" waiting and waiting. Beer cans left on the table for the entire meal, no water refills, had to find the serve to even get the check. The waitress was very helpful with recommendations and steered us in the right direction. The hammy sandwich was delicious and not too large. We were on the road up north to see the eclipse, and we remembered that Naples is supposed to have exceptional restaurants. We had just passed Red Cat Winery and were talking about turning back, when we saw Roots and remembered that this was one of the big players. We luckily managed to get a table for brunch, and we quickly knew that Roots has special all over it. Quickly greeted by our server Mary, we ordered from the brunch menu. We were impressed that they knew the farm that each food item hailed from, and more impressed with the food itself. Donna gave me a slice of ham from her plate, and I had not known that ham could be that good. The only disappointment was that they had just run out of zucchini fritters. Coffee was good, mimosas were too, although a bit heavier on the OJ than I'd make at home. I got the sausage gravy and biscuits and the wifey got the Fig and Pig burger. Salt and dill fries that came with the burger were money. The sausage gravy was good, heavy on the fennel seed, not cream based like I was expecting, good but I wouldn't get it again. Perched a top about the most ideal vineyard landscape I've ever seen, Roots Cafe is the real thing. The inside is simple, but lovely. While you wait to be seated, there's an amazing Hand, drawn, blackboard mural of all of the local businesses they use in their food and drink. The menu is fine, dining prices, but instead of being overly fancy or disappointingly heavy, everything was fresh, delicious and expertly prepared. Charred artichokes with whipped feta and crostini was so simple and scrumptious. It came with Greene's dressed in lemon juice and good olive oil, simple but perfect. Blackened chicken with tomato, cucumber salad, strained Labna and warm pita was about the best I've ever had. Chicken so flavorful it must have been brined, perfectly seasoned, light and fresh. The special salad was local greens and blueberries with a raspberry vinegaraitte and feta (we ordered too much feta, but it was unsalted and hard to get tired of)... the dressing was a little sweet for my liking but my wife loved it. She says the dressing could've been a little less sweet and it could've used some toasted nuts. Dessert was a lime and coconut cake that tasted homemade and was a dense, heavy buttercream and dense, heavy crumb, but tasting nonetheless. The service was friendly and helpful. Whenever we are hiking in the area, driving around looking for wineries, or coming from visiting friends on the lake, Roots Cafe is our go to for great quality, great value, local food with an inventive spin. Over the last year, we've been here 4 times - 3 times just the hubs and I (two dinners and 1 brunch), and once with multiple generations of women in my family on a girls outing. Each and every time we have found great diversity on the menu, a friendly and knowledgable server, an accommodating kitchen, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. For example, I am trying to eat vegan whenever I can, but also need gluten free, and during one of our dinner outings, I had a bowl of delicious and hearty vegan lentil soup, paired with a salad and topped off with warm mulled cider and their vegan and GF flourless chocolate torte. The hubs had their steak special which came with potatoes and greens and he was really happy with the doneness of the meat (medium as ordered) and the portion size. Besides the great food, the whole vibe of Roots, inside and out, is awesome - colorful, homey, eclectic...in any season... We had a wonderful experience at Roots Cafe! We first saddled up at Inspire Moore for a round of tastings on the patio - we had our dog with us and, unfortunately, Roots does not allow dogs under the tent or on their patio space. I had wrongly assumed that the two were connected and you could order food while drinking wine - but unfortunately not the case. Anyways - we enjoyed our Inspire Moore wine then headed to the little patio space in between both buildings to enjoy some Roots Cafe eats. We ordered takeout (to the space next door) from the currently outdoor hostess stand. The staffer working was a little spaced out throughout our entire ordering process, but we got our food in no time at all and everything was correct and delish. I went with the curry chicken salad and would absolutely order that again. A major star of the show? The FRIES! So tasty and covered in a dill seasoning. Do not skip! Did Sunday brunch here to end my sisters bachelorette weekend. It was beautiful views, good vibes and great food/ drinks. They were nice and easy to book. With for a large group ahead of time. Wish the menu that changed daily was available online somehow due to some food intolerances and picky eaters in the group. But the menu day of wound up working for all members of our group so our ahead of time worries were eased. Wait staff was friendly and helpful and the food was just so yummy and unique. My sister and I came in for dinner on a Thursday night. We did not make reservations in advance, but were able to get a table after a short wait. The hostess, server, and bartender were all very friendly. The decor was outstanding and the seating was wonderfully separated so that we had our own little section. We ordered the mushroom poutine to start and the braised brisket as our entree to split. We also ordered one of their seasonal draft beers and a cider - both delicous. And then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. We began to think that we were forgotten, but an hour later our meal had arrived. The poutine and the brisket came out together. They were both absolutely phenomenal. The carrots that came with the brisket were perfect and so were the crispy garlic potatoes. It was disappointing that no one came to check on us or see if we needed more drinks or anything else, but that will not stop us from coming back because the food was worth the wait. read more

We visited Grimes Glen State Park in the morning and so glad we stumbled upon this cafe in town. It is in this funky converted house and has tons of charm. We didn't realize you needed reservations and got really lucky with a 15min wait for 4 people. Highly recommend reservations!!! Where we sat inside the house, it had gorgeous views of the vineyards at Inspire Moore and the beautiful fall foliage. Everyone in our party agreed the service was just meh. We had to ask multiple times for a straw for my mother, food took awhile to come out, and we had to ask for water refills. But, if you can overlook those 3 things, the food totally more than made up for it. I don't know how long they will have their mac & cheese special but highly recommend it! It was AMAZING! Their miso sesame burger was definitely different but oh so delicious. Everyone in our party could not stop raving how good the food was during our whole meal. My first recommendation for this place is make a reservation. They are very small & very popular. Please be patient & kind to the staff. They only have a kitchen big enough for 2 cooks. The wait you have for the food is worth it. Anything on the menu is absolutely delicious. Even with a small kitchen the food comes out hot & all together. Ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible & the menu is always changing based on season. Portions are big & I would recommend each person in your party getting something different & sharing. The beef was tender, the pasta was cooked perfectly & the sauce impeccable. Their french fries?! Out of this world with the seasoning & crispiness. They don't display in on their menu but they do have a kids menu where the portion will give you left overs. Try a craft cocktail as the are unique & tasty. There's not much to say about this place, other than if you've never been, hurry up and give it a try. Imagine Moore has some of the best wine in the Finger Lakes and the winery is right on premises. The menu is always changing based on local availability of ingredients, but the burger is a staple and there's quite the creative surprise inside. I'm not too impressed with the black bean burger. It resembled a ball of generic tasting black beans. However the sweet potatoes that are in the black bean burger definitely give this a better taste and mouth feel. Now we are gonna get right into the nitty gritty. Who here has heard of breakfast nachos? Roots has and if they didn't invent this, they better patent it. Their breakfast nachos are the best meal and might be my last meal. I just wish they had them ALL THE TIME and on every MENU. read more
